PERISCIANS‘ formula encompasses a ferocious blend of old-school hardcore punk and the intensity of metal, creating a sonic assault that resonates with fans of extreme music. “Halo” continues this genre-crossing trend fusing heavy rock-esque chord progressions and vocal melodies with intricate technical guitars, harsh vocals and pounding drums. “Halo” is a thrilling track that draws you in. Rhythmic verses deliver a combination of light and dark across the instrumental and vocal parts. When the thundering choruses hit, they unleash a fury of percussion and bass while vocal melodies offer a contrasting mood soaring above.

About PERISCIANS:
Based out of Columbus, Ohio, PERISCIANS debuted in April 2023 with their single “Blind By Design”. Their tracks thematically seek to expose corruption and unmasking how the ruling class utilizes manipulation, censorship, and misinformation to shape public perception. Musically, PERISCIANS‘ sound appeals to fans of GOJIRA, FEAR FACTORY, CURRENTS, and TRIVIUM, to name a few.

THE CONVALESCENCE Announces “One Of The Dead Tour” w/ Summoner’s Circle, WoR

New Claymation Video For “No Survivors” ft. CARNIFEX’s Scott Ian Lewis

Blending black metal/horror theatrics with intense death metal style blast beats and shredding guitar along with brutal slamming breakdowns and catchy melodies, Toledo, OH symphonic deathcore band The Convalescence announces they will be hitting the road this June for the “One of The Dead Tour” with support from Knoxville, TN’s Summoner’s Circle and Raleigh, NC’s WoR. The tour will kick off with a hometown headlining show for The Convalescence at the Toledo Death Fest on June 3rd and see the tour wrap up on June 24th in Battle Creek, MI. (all dates listed below).

In additional news, The Convalescencehave unleashed their latest single “No Survivors” featuring Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex with a Claymation music video, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/YQVSCu57aSs

Vocalist Keith Wampler details the single and the band’s plans for an upcoming album:

The single is one of the hardest-hitting songs we’ve ever released. The lyrics and video were inspired by the Alien films, and having Scott doing some nasty guest vocals really helped give it the brutality we were looking for. We played it live throughout our recent European Tour and absolutely loved the energy it brings to the stage. We’re looking forward to this one being a part of our live show for many tours to come. This new album is basically like one big horror movie, song by song each one tells a story. Each one is brutal in its own way.”

The Convalescence expects the album will be received well by the fans, as they do their very best to step things up on each record. They worked with producer Jason Suecof on this one at Audiohammer Studios in Florida who has worked with most of their favorite bands (The Black Dahlia Murder, Carnifex, Deicide, Job For A Cowboy) and they were beyond stoked he was down to do the recording with them. In their opinion, they’ve created the heaviest The Convalescence album so far. The full-length was mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and is expected for release summer of 2023.

Filthy, brutal, and symphonic, The Convalescence is recommended for fans of Carnifex, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Chelsea Grin.

METALLICA ‘72 Seasons’ – I Bought My CD Copy At Midnight On April 14th!

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, ohio with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 14, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

Yes, I bought the CD version of Metallica’s 72 Seasons at midnight! Thank God for Catacomb Records in Kettering, Ohio! Tim (the owner) had a listening party for 72 Seasons with complimentary pizza and pop. Is that Metal or what!? Thus when the clock struck midnight, I was buying!!

I was so excited to get this new Metallica CD that I freaking forgot to put it into the car CD player! WTF!! I had my wife’s car; my ancient car only plays cassette. Still, I’m grateful. Tim at Catacomb Records also had a free litho of the 72 Seasons album cover along with a pack of 3 72 Seasons guitar pics! I’ll post the pics of those later cuz I’m half asleep doing this post right now.

I love Metallica. Forever.

Here are some pics of Catacomb Records:

Old school and current Metal selection at Catacomb Records here is AMAZING!!
Being inside Catacomb Records is like transporting back to 1982. No shit.
Check out the pizza boxes! Yeah!
Tim has all the Metal details at his store. Skulls are forever Metal!

WAR CURSE – Release “Shadow Gods” Track To Benefit East Palestine Ohio

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, ohio with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 10, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

Ohio thrashers WAR CURSE have released their song “Shadow Gods” exclusively on Bandcamp. The song has been released in order to raise funds for victims of the East Palestine Ohio train derailment.

Guitarist Justin Roth comments:

We wrote a ton of material for our upcoming album, a lot of which ended up on the cutting room floor. Shadow Gods is a fun, ripping thrasher that Blaine and I constructed in around 20 minutes, start to finish. We knew it didn’t match the vibe of the album but recorded it anyway, just for fun. It might have never seen the light of day, but the tragedy in East Palestine, Ohio, our home state, really struck a nerve. The lyrics to Shadow Gods felt like they were written about this very situation. Faceless organizations ‘gambling with consequence.’ ‘Failing comes at your expense.’ People are suffering right now, months later, because a soulless corporation prioritized appeasing stockholders over taking responsibility. Absolute scumbags.

We’re a small band from Ohio, but we’re here to do our part. All proceeds from Shadow Gods purchased through Bandcamp will be donated to a local 501c3 benefiting the impacted citizens of East Palestine, OH. “

War Curse‘s third studio album will be released this fall on Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media.

GNASH – To Release Debut EP “Shared Nightmare”

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, ohio with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 28, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Sludge metal newcomers, GNASH, are preparing to unleash their debut EP, Shared Nightmare, on September 22nd.

Josh Richter of GNASH comments:

“I’ve never done a concept record before so I wanted to try to tell a story in great detail over an entire record rather than just one song. As dark and gruesome as the concept is, the underlying theme is the feeling of carrying around emotional baggage and trauma your whole life and the effects it takes on someone. Life is a heavy burden sometimes.”

Formed this year in Columbus, Ohio, GNASH has already established a powerful and unique sound, drawing influence from the depth of death metal, the raw emotion of black metal, and heaviness of sludge metal, the band’s debut EP, Shared Nightmare, is a profound and thought-provoking insight into the darkest reaches of mental health issues.

Shared Nightmare tells a tale of conjoined twins, where one half of the pair dies. The remaining twin must continue on in life, carrying with him a corpse he can’t be rid of. The EP is an exploration of what it means to bear trauma and the toll it takes after a lifetime of being weighed down by such inescapable feelings.

Not for the faint of heart, prepare to be transported into a dark and chilling tale in GNASH’s debut EP, Shared Nightmare, coming September 22nd.

GNASH:

Josh Richter – Vocals

Nicky Richter – Guitar

Ethan Martin – Bass

Keenan McNeal – Drums
