LIGHTLORN – Release New Track “Dimensionless Blackness”

Posted in Black Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 26, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

Cosmic black metal duo LIGHTLORN has unleashed “Dimensionless Blackness,” the newest single from their upcoming full-length debut: At One with the Night Sky.

The third track on the album, “Dimensionless Blackness” is full of contrasting elements. From the bright guitar picking in the intro, which belies the energetic, groove-infested opening riff that follows, to the ups and downs in the song structure, “Dimensionless Blackness” is highly representative of the sound LIGHTLORN has become known for. The lead guitar carries captivating melodies, while a foreboding piano section and an outro replete with strings and brass infuse the song with atmosphere and emotion. The lyrics are sung from the perspective of a supermassive black hole in the center of a galaxy. How it holds the galaxy together while slowly devouring the matter around it.

Posted in Black Metal, black metal albums, black metal bands, black metal videos, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 28, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

Atmospheric post-black metal band EAVE presents their third full-length album, Fervor. Complex and powerful, Fervor offers seven new songs that show a more aggressive march across the bleak, depressive soundscape the band created on 2020’s Phantoms Made Permanent.

Fervor is out now on Bindrune Recordings. Order the album at shop.bindrunerecordings.com or bindrunerecordings.bandcamp.com.

Stream Fervor on Spotify and Apple Music.

Watch the video for “Mirroring” at youtu.be/r0hdmtwMGvE

Tracklist:
1) Past Pulses
2) Chance is a Spectre
3) Mirroring
4) Stale Ash
5) Bending the Light
6) Shards
7) Into Perdition

A lot has happened since the release of EAVE’s Phantoms Made Permanent via Bindrune Recordings. The world has seemingly flipped upside down and in the case of this forward-thinking quartet, change isn’t always a bad thing.

After a band migration back to their home state of Connecticut and a period of tireless effort, EAVE emerges with a formidable selection of songs that see the band demonstrating a fiery new approach to their unique brand of atmospheric metal. Bristling with energy and venom amidst passages of ethereal and shadowed melodies, the duly titled Fervor exhibits an air of urgency, disillusionment, and resiliency. Heavily incorporating elements from a myriad of musical genres and applying a broad tone of experimentalism to their soaring style of New England black metal, Fervor marks a new period of focus for the band, as they press upon new territory that feels wholly their own.

Recorded by the band in Connecticut, and re-amped, mixed, and mastered by Colin Marston in Queens, New York, Fervor sheds stunning light on the beauty and darkness that forever exists in mankind and its relationship to the natural world.

EAVE is:
Brian Tenison – Bass, Vocals
Caleb Porter – Drums
Ian Stoller – Guitars
Gabriel Shara – Guitars, Vocals

That being said, We do have some good news… We were able to get two amazing artists to replace Oceano and VCTMS at this year’s event! They are Signs of the Swarm and Casket Robbery. We really appreciate these bands jumping in on such short notice and are looking forward to seeing them perform! Thank you to everyone who has supported Toledo Deathfest and we will see you all June 3rd!”

Along with a statement from OCEANO:

“We deeply regret to inform you that we will be unable to perform at Toledo Deathfest. The band is currently undergoing personal and internal changes that have unfortunately hindered our ability to proceed with our plans. However, we are pleased to announce that the festival organizers have secured another exceptional band to take our place. We encourage you to continue supporting your local music scene and show your enthusiasm for all the talented bands performing. The lineup promises to be outstanding! We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. We hope to connect with you again in the near future!”

Epic Black Metal Band FROZEN DAWN Return With Their Fourth Full-Length Album

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 27, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Release Date – February 10th, 2023

This is the most ambitious and accomplished album by the Spanish black metal band Frozen Dawn who haven’t quite received the attention that they deserved in the past. Intense and sharp, their scintillating music is tempered by heart-rending melodies and leads, and it’s all beautifully strung together. You can listen to one of their heart-racing songs HERE and a longer one with a gorgeous finale HERE.

For a decade and a half, Frozen Dawn have been perfecting their sound which can be described as stirring, intense and scathing black metal tempered with melody and soaring leads. The members have used their experience in notable bands to create something that not only pays earnest tribute to the classic bands such as Dissection, Necrophobic, Sacramentum and Naglfar but also sounds contemporary in terms of structure and execution. They’ve bolstered the sound with death metal influences and even added slight thrash touches, ensuring that the music remains powerful, incisive and compelling.

The momentum remains unabated as the band pummels its way through nine elaborate tracks and a fitting cover of Necrophobic. Many bands have attempted to recreate this sound with varying degrees of success but clearly Frozen Dawn have excelled at it which is mainly due to their knack for meticulous songwriting that straddles heaviness with emotion, allowing them to enhance the expression and maintain the much-needed diversity for the style. This album is easily Frozen Dawn‘s best one yet and is head and shoulders above the rest of them where this kind of music goes in recent memory.

Line up –
Dani Grinder (ex-Haemorrhage) – Vocals, Rhythm & Lead Guitars
Antonio Mansilla (ex-Hordak) – Bass, Lead & Classical Guitars
Arjan van der Wijst (ex-Avulsed) – Drums

Mastered by Dan Swano at Unisound Studios

Artwork by Mariusz Lewandowski

Track list –
1. Mystic Fires of Dark Allegiance

Extreme Metal Music – One Man Black Metal TRYGLAV Announces New Album “The Ritual” Out Feb 2023

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 25, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Extreme Metal Music is proud to announce the release of the one-man black metal band, Croatia’s Tryglav‘s second album “The Ritual” this coming February 2023 to follow the 2019 debut “Night of Whispering Souls” also released on the label.

All the music on “The Ritual” were written by founder Boris Behara with vocals entrusted to vocalist Callum Wright along with mixing and mastering by producer Rocco Pezzin. The songs on the sophomore record began their journey in 2018 as part of Behara’s love for black metal and horror imagery. After many re-compositions and re-arrangements along with interruptions from the world pandemic and his personal health with two open heart surgeries. , “The Ritual” will now see the light once again via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Italian label Rockshots Records.

After three years, a world pandemic, and two open heart surgeries, I’m proud that the album I worked hard on is finally seeing the light! This time I wanted something more than just individual horror stories, that’s why I worked so hard to put out an original concept story based on Plague Doctors, which are the trademark of this band since the beginning. This album has seen so many difficulties, but finally, after three long years, it’s here! I hope fans will enjoy it as much I did create it!”

Tryglav‘s sound is aggressive, melodic, modern, and emotionally epic black metal, and fans of its predecessor will notice a maturity in sound and lyrics. The story behind the album is set in the 17th century as Tryglav explains further:

“On a dark stormy night, a dying man sighed his last breath. Nothing his parents could do to save his life. A Plague Doctor was called. Four of them showed up, taking the dead body with them. The family knew that they would never see him again. What they didn’t know was that he would come back, in an unimaginable way..”

Tryglav is recommended for fans of Dark Funeral, Dissection, and Uada.

NECRODEATH – Legendary Italian Black-Thrashers Premiere “Oomny Ones” Video

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 13, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Today, Italian black-thrash metal trailblazers NECRODEATH share the new single “Oomny Ones”. Watch the video HERE.

The clip was produced by Time To Kill Records/Morbid Vision Italyand directed by the band’s frontman Flegias with the assistance of Merlin Music Management, BlåKläDer, Midnight Club.

The song is inspired by Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” – the scene in which Alex, the protagonist, is seen regaining his leadership among his “droogs”. In the video, the director (and singer of the band) elaborates this concept through the rivalry between two motorcycle gangs who meet to discuss the ownership of a territory. Those who are able to showcase a little (un)healthy ultra-violence will prevail. The video also shows the whole band drinking milk plus inside a replica of the famous Korova Milk Bar.

The band’s new record “Singin’ in the Pain” will be released via Time To Kill Records on November 28th 2022.

“Singin ‘in the Pain”
is a concept based on the movie “A Clockwork Orange” by Stanley Kubrick, where the band takes us on a one-way black-thrash journey, soaked in immorality and violence, and back to a vain attempt at redemption and normality.

The album is conceived in 9 tracks linked together by the narrating voice of Tony Dolan of VENOM INC. and supported in the finale by the presence of Eric Forrest of E-FORCE (ex-VOIVOD).

Ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence?

The moment you hear it, you know it’s NECRODEATH. Formed back in 1984, the Italian act is one of the real iconic black-thrash metal bands. With an ongoing career of almost 40 years, the band has helped to shape the Italian metal scene and the international underground as it is today. NECRODEATH released a cult-demo tape titled “The Shining Pentagram” and obtained an incredible success in the underground.

The demo is still considered a real gem in the thrash and black metal history. Tons of tributes in major magazines, fanzines and other underground outlets highlighted the release of the first two legendary albums “Into The Macabre” (1987) and “Fragments Of Insanity” (1989). And today after many full-lengths, EPs and side projects the long voyage to hell is not over yet.

Watch the lyric video here: https://youtu.be/LTMU4F7_j0c or below:

“Jean Grenier is a true story of 17th century poverty and endless hunger that pushed Jean Grenier to make his own solutions. He fell into insanity wearing his wolf skin cloak that gave him a dark freedom which was ripped away from him in the end. Within every human there is a beast that will step in when the situation forces to do so.” – Band backgrounds the single.

The new album sees TORII return after three years of silence, having reverted back to its original form as a solo project. With Torii, Masino continues the journey into the depths of post-metal and death/doom with a stronger focus on atmosphere. Torii released on December 17.

Track Listing:
1) The Second Renaissance
2) Synthetic Dust
3) Persephone
4) Eurydice
5) Grey Expanse
6) Void
7) Inertia
8) Torii

Though black and death metal are core elements, the basic description doesn’t quite capture the breadth of the music, colored as it is with post-metal grays and streaks of doom. TORII has created yet another masterwork of oppressive darkness and an intensity that burns continually. Artwork, lyrics, vocals, instruments, and programming on Torii were all done by Bill Masino.

BLODTÅR – “Blodtår” Is Out Now!

NEWS FROM THE NORTH
Nordvis Newsletter 2021-11-26

LP available on January 22, 2022

Dreamlike and longing but still vicious and punishing – Nordic black metal saturated in that characteristically wild and unbound organic spirit associated with many of the Nordvis bands. Perhaps somewhere in-between Murg and Panphage, but with an atmosphere rooted in folkloric mysticism. Blodtår’s primary strength is the masterful use of contrast in mood and music, showcasing both acoustic interludes and a youthful fire that brings early Dissection to mind.

Tracklist:
1. Djävulskap
2. Svartsejd
3. Besatt
4. Aldrig Mer

MYSTIC CIRCLE – Reunited German Black/Death Metallers Unleash Video For “Letters From The Devil” – Mystic Circle Album Details Revealed + Preorders Begin

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on November 20, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Earlier this week, reunited German black/death metallers MYSTIC CIRCLE announced their signing to Atomic Fire Records. Today, the duo unveils a video for “Letters From The Devil,” the first single off their highly-anticipated, eponymous comeback, set for release on February 4th, 2022.

Elaborates the band of the track, “This song tells the true story of a possessed nun who reportedly received messages from Satan at night back in 1676. They were of a language that can’t be decoded to this day. Myths like these are always worthy of becoming a song within the MYSTIC CIRCLE universe, of course. Musically, we kept it diabolical but still infectiously melodic. That diabolicalness has greatly been staged in our new music video. Get seduced…!”

“Letters From The Devil” is part of a trilogy written by the band’s own A. Blackwar.

View the video, filmed and edited by Alen Ljubic and Nils Lesser, at THIS LOCATION.

Following the musical path where Infernal Satanic Verses — the final MYSTIC CIRCLE record featuring both reunion members — had left off in 1999, Mystic Circle was produced by the band and Nils Lesser at Vaultroom Productions while its artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Rafael Tavares.

Preorder Mystic Circle in various formats (box set, CD-digipak, black/red marbled vinyl), presave it, or preorder the album digitally to receive “Letters From The Devil” instantly and order the group’s new Letters From The Devil 7″ black vinyl single, which includes the exclusive, non-album B-side track “The Godsmasher,” limited to 666 copies and available now at THIS LOCATION.

Mystic Circle Track Listing:

1. Belial Is My Name, 2. Seven Headed Dragon, 3. Hell Demons Rising, 4. Letters From The Devil, 5. Darkness In Flames, 6. The Arrival Of Baphomet, 7. Curse Of The Wolf Demon, 8. Satanic Mistress, 9. Death Metal (Possessed Cover) * * CD-digipak only bonus track

Letters From The Devil 7” Track Listing:

Side A: Letters From The Devil

Side B: The Godsmasher

With seven studio albums and many tours alongside black metal heavyweights Marduk, Gorgoroth, and Dimmu Borgir under their belt, it wasn’t just a little history that German black/death metal legends MYSTIC CIRCLE left behind when they decided to call it quits in 2007. But alas, 14 years of silence are over as MYSTIC CIRCLE – consisting of Beelzebub and A. Blackwar who had actually left the group in 1999 – have risen from their graves to renew their deal with the Dark Lord.

My Recent Metal Music Purchases – END IT, AHNA And SICARIUS On Cassettes!

Posted in Metal with tags , , , , , , , on May 4, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

I purchased END IT One Way Track on cassette from M-Theory Audio. END IT is a Hardcore band, hailing from Baltimore Maryland. This is a 4 song EP and it was released earlier in 2020, via Flatspot Records. I dig Hardcore and you should too.

I purchased this AHNA Crimson Dawn cassette from the fantastic Caligari Records. If you’re looking for legit underground Metal and/or Extreme Music then Caligari Records is the epicenter of said genres! AHNA hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. AHNA is one damn good, ass-kicking band. I absolutely love this band.

M-Theory Audio delivered once again for me, with this brain splitting release from SICARIUS. If you love Black Metal, you must check out SICARIUS and later send me an annual thank you gift for the next 25 years or more. SICARIUS hail from The Inland Empire in California. Hell and yeah. I’ve been listening to this SICARIUS cassette in my car to and from work for several days now and it’s so inspirational!!

Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey. With countless other things you could be doing, checking in on what Metal I’ve been buying really makes my Metal day. Stay safe and cherish life. – Stone

ENSIFERUM – Announces North American Headlining Tour With Kalmah, Abigail Williams And Aenimus

ENSIFERUM will embark on their Path To Victory North American headlining tour, featuring support from Kalmah, Abigail Williams, and Aenimus, late this fall. The journey runs from November 14th in Richmond, Virginia through December 8th in Brooklyn, New York.

Comments ENSIFERUM bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka: “It’s time to get back on the road for one last time before we head to studio to record the next ENSIFERUM album and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming North American tour! It’s gonna be fireworks of metal for the whole evening because we’ll share the stage with three awesome bands: Kalmah, Abigail Williams, and Aenimus!” See all confirmed dates below.

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of ENSIFERUM, and with their latest album, Two Paths, they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is the quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection of songs to date as well as their most organic.

The album literally takes the concept of Two Paths to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks “Don’t You Say” and “God Is Dead”. “Even though ENSIFERUM has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,” explains Hinkka. With Mikko P. Mustonen again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both Two Paths and its predecessor, One Man Army. “It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”
