Here’s the fun part: this song is instantly memorable and Heavy Rockin’… only the ENTIRE debut from Brand New Machine is unreal!! I don’t hear one second on this CD that I don’t like!! This is an album I was praying for KROKUS to release, after such an amazing album as Hoodoo.

With Dirty Dynamite, there’s no micro-doubt in my mind that KROKUS is THE GREATEST Rock N’ Roll band to ever call Switzerland home. Hands down. Hard Rockin’ game over. When an album is this potent with psyche-you-out songs, I’m gonna blab all over creation about it and be glad I did! Dirty Dynamite was released back on March 5th of this year, in North America, via The End Records. Every Hard Rock lovin’ maniac out there MUST own Dirty Dynamite!

Guitarist Mandy Meyer returns for this 17th KROKUS studio album and the legendary Freddy Steady is not back on drums. Kosta Zafiriou fills in admirably on drums, by the way. With lineup maneuvering aside, the core of KROKUS is back on Dirty Dynamite and it’s all out-of-sight! Guitar driven, heavy bass and drums all combine with the unmistakable vocals from the legendary Marc Storace. Twelve electrified songs on this album and I’ve got KROKUS fever once again! Nobody get me no damn doctor!

KROKUS does a stupendous job with covering the iconic Beatles timeless classic: Help! If you haven’t heard this cover song yet, trust me, it’s not what you’d expect… KROKUS have absolutely given Help! a heaping dosage of Hard Rock relevance and made it their own. It’s ostrich bump city, all over my face and arms, each time I listen to Help! covered by KROKUS. Sounds crazy? Give it a listen!! Whoa.

KROKUS has proven time and again their prominence in the world of Hard Rock; after so many decades, this legendary band deserves any and all of the accolades that are thrown their way. Chip DiMonick – Reveals What Album He Cannot Live Without!

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ROCKS. This grand metropolis doesn’t just Rock due to their major league sports champions. Nope. Pittsburgh also Rocks cause it’s the home of Chip DiMonick. Blue-collar Hard Rock from a blue-collar city. Chip and his band have won many Rock ‘N Roll awards of their own, in the greater Pittsburgh area; while earning tidal waves of fans with their catchy original songs and DIY work ethic.

Recently, Chip DiMonick took the time to answer a question for Metal Odyssey. Thank you Chip! The question: What album (minus your own) could you not be able to live without? It can be from any genre of music and have as many words as you’d like too. Here’s what Chip had to say:

“The album I couldn’t live without is “The Strange Case Of…” by Halestorm. This album is total quality from Track 1 through Track 15 (yes, I have the 15-track deluxe edition!). Very few albums in the history of rock have consistently good songs throughout. There always seems to be a crappy song in there somewhere. But not on “Strange Case Of!”

The album has so much diversity, from soft ballads to aggressive screamers. So, no matter what mood I’m in, I can find songs to match on this release. Finally, I’ll say that the songwriting is impeccable. The melodies, the riffs, the hooks…it’s just ALL THERE. I hope Halestorm can recreate the magic they conjured up with this album with their future efforts. If they can, rock fans like me will have lots of timeless music to indulge in for years – or decades – to come!”

SAMMY HAGAR “Three Lock Box” – 1982 Album Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

SAMMY HAGAR – The Red Rocker. Rock ‘N Roll Legend. Sammy Hagar. Back in the day, any smart dude knew enough to have a Sammy Hagar cassette or two in the car; especially Three Lock Box. Why is that Stone? Well… chicks really dug Sammy Hagar, back then, of course! Ah, those were the days. Oops… daze. Come to think of it, these same gals today (must) seem to think Sammy Hagar is still a Rockin’ cool dude. My wife (basically) melts apart at the seams whenever Sammy is on television or his Rock ‘N Roll is cranking! I don’t mind. It’s Sammy Hagar, the dude epitomizes Rock ‘N Roll cool. Metal be thy name.

I can remember this album being released, like it was yesterday. An old high school buddy of mine bought Three Lock Box on vinyl right away. We listened to this album quite a bit too. I was a sophomore in high school back in ’82, the year of this album’s release. I eventually snagged Three Lock Box on cassette and I actually still own it! It’s in a water-proof container somewhere in my basement. My prehistoric cassette collection has survived over the decades; regardless of natural disasters and downsizing!

Admittedly, I still get psyched-out-of-my-Metal-mind from the tracks: Three Lock Box, Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy and Remember The Heroes. All three of those songs were HUGE radio hits, back when FM meant something. Since his early days with Montrose, through his Van Hagar glory years and up to the present day, there consistently has been an it-factor that Sammy Hagar has glowing from his Rock ‘N Roll persona, voice and guitar. Whatever that “it” is, none of us can walk into Walmart to buy it… that’s for certain!

My Best Metal Buddy, Scott Coverdale, had suggested to me a long while ago to pick Three Lock Box as Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day. When Scott came up with this idea, I felt it was a no-brainer! I just don’t know what took me so long to write about it! Nevertheless, I have written about Sammy Hagar’s Three Lock Box and it is forever secured as Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day! Amen and… Whoa.

(Los Angeles, CA) – Austin-based trio, Not In The Face, is proud to announce they have teamed up with PledgeMusic, offering fans an opportunity to actually participate in recording sessions for their new EP. They are currently in the Studio in Vancouver, B.C., recording with legendary producers Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, KISS, Deftones) and GGGarth Richardson (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Melvins, Motley Crue). Not In The Face made their first appearances (in 2009) as a two-piece outfit playing around the local Austin, Texas music scene. The band started as a creative outlet and to have fun. Once the recording sessions are completed, Not In The Face are going on a West Coast/East Coast tour, including performing at the Hootenanny Festival on July 6th and Austin’s ACL Festival – the weekend of October 11 – 13.

SKID ROW and UGLY KID JOE announce a 29 city, 12 country co-headline tour of Europe and the UK. Dates will kick off in England on October 22nd and run through November 26th ending in Austria. With combined sales of millions of albums, each band will play a full set of the songs fans want to hear.

Led by founding members Rachel Bolan, Snake Sabo and Scotti Hill, along with powerhouse vocalist and 14 year veteran of the band Johnny Solinger and new drummer Rob Hammersmith, SKID ROW will deliver the best from their catalogue of gold and platinum albums and anthemic singles like “Youth Gone Wild”, “Monkey Business”, “I Remember You”, “18 & Life” and many more. They will also showcase tracks from their new mini-album United World Rebellion Chapter 1 which features songs such as “Kings Of Demolition” and “ This Is Killing Me”, tracks which easily stand up along with the band’s classics.

After a run of hugely successful festival dates in Summer 2012, UGLY KID JOE’s Whit, Klaus and Cordell, along with Snot / Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo and Zac Morris are back for their first full European tour. In Summer 2013, they will release Stairway To Hell, their first new music since 1996. The album features six brand new songs along with three acoustic versions of songs from their past. “All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts,” explained Maynard James Keenan. “For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of ‘Telling Ghosts.’ Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to ‘now write the other half.’ It’s extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present.”

Metal Odyssey – Stone Picks His Top 10 Hard Rock Albums Of 2012!

After I banged my METAL brains to a pulp in compiling a Top 30 Metal Albums Of 2012 list, I decided to keep the Hard Rock side of the street to a cool and tidy Top 10 Of 2012. Okay, there’s really 11 Top Hard Rock Albums Of 2012; cause there’s a tie. Couldn’t help it. My favorite METAL troll who lives deep in the Pennsylvania woods told me a couple of days ago: “No one ever said it would be easy, Stone”.

Below you will find the 10 Hard Rock Albums (all released in 2012) that I turned to most often to get psyched-out of my Hard Rockin’ mind. I truly thought this list over long and hard, while making certain the overall quality of the albums stand tall on their own respective musical merits.

In my heart, KISS will always be #1; only SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators found their way to my Rockin’ soul in 2012. That counts big time. The ultra-fabulous return of Van Halen, Trixter and Soundgarden are just 3 stories among many Hard Rock comebacks during 2012. What sensational comeback albums these 3 bands created and they’re included in my Top 10! Spider Rockets appear in my Top Ten for good reason; their Hard Rockin’ bite is infectious!

Switzerland’s The Order and N. Ireland’s Million Dollar Reload are 2 bands that released unbelievable albums this past year! Both of these bands took me by incredible Hard Rockin’ surprise! The word elite comes to my mind, whenever I listen to the new albums from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Country Communion. As for Georgia’s very own Jackyl… their new album Best Of Show is a combination of Hard Rockin’ fun and whoop-ass that I am so very thankful for.

Thank you for supporting Hard Rock and any/all bands seen or heard on Metal Odyssey this past year. I greatly appreciate your every visit and loyalty. I also want to thank each band listed below for existing. Metal be thy name.

APOCALYPTIC LOVE

As I see and hear it, once an album can move you, lifting your Rockin’ soul to new heights as Apocalyptic Love has done for me, then it’s a #1 album for certain. The combination of SLASH’s guitar and Myles Kennedy’s vocals were destined to unite. It had to be! At least that’s how I feel and hear it.

The chemistry of this entire band just seems to be right on the bullseye, overflowing from every song on this exceptional album. Maybe it’s just me. Regardless, I couldn’t be more confident and psyched-out by my choice of Apocalyptic Love being my #1 Hard Rock album of 2012. Metal be thy name!
