VERWOED – Cult Black Metal Outfit, Formerly Named Woudloper, To Release New Bodemloos LP Via Argento Records In July

Argento Records proudly confirms the label’s next official release, with a newly recorded album by Dutch Black Metal act, VERWOED, titled Bodemloos, marking the outfit’s first recordings since converting from the moniker, Woudloper.

Utrecht-based soloist Erik B. began paving his path of destruction as one-man project, Woudloper, in 2014, creating an ethereal yet scathing style, heavily rooted in traditional Black Metal, yet reaching into more psychedelic realms of inspiration. Breathe Plastic released a critically acclaimed, self-titled demo tape in 2015, yet immediately subsequent to its release the project changed its name to VERWOED, as an even more exploratory epoch of the band was taking place.

On the maiden official VERWOED release, Bodemloos sees this artisan peeling back even more layers of this project, exposing incredibly dense and much more psychedelic and hallucinogenic cosmic textures than before, while remaining yielding in its nihilistic and violent tactics. Bodemloos brings three massive new movements into existence, its immersive tones recorded, mixed, and mastered by John Bart Van Der Wal (Aborted, Herder), the album completed with cover artwork created by Joost Vervoost (Terzij De Horde). Argento Records will release Bodemloos on CD, digital, and 180-gram one-sided LP, the vinyl’s B-side featuring an etching handled by Reuben Sawyer (Chelsea Wolfe, Hollow Sunshine), on July 8th. Audio samples, preorders and further info on Bodemloos will be issued in the days ahead.

Following the release of Bodemloos, VERWOED will transform from a solo outing into a five-piece lineup, and begin performing live, the first shows to be announced shortly.

Blistering anarchist Black Metal unit, ISKRA, has teamed up with Southern Lord for the CD release of their latest LP, Ruins. Approaching the most fearsome of all genres from a foundation in filthy metallic crust, ISKRA has skillfully created an old school orthodox epic that their extensive back catalog has always been working towards, and in Ruins is executed in sublime, scathing style.

The Canadian collective, almost two decades into their journey as ISKRA, stands out as staunch advocates of anarchism, and reject all forms of oppressive mainstream ideologies such as communism, fascism and democracy. To underline this, they coined their unification of extreme punk anger and Black Metal sonics “anarchist metal,” separating themselves from other acts deemed as “extreme” or “radical” but lacking conviction or real menace.

It is certainly evident in their vitriolic offensives that they mean business, but most impressive is the sharp, refined songcraft that makes Ruins a compelling Black Metal record, regardless of your political (dis)orientation. The constantly shifting tremolo riffs and blasting drums are some of the most devastating and aggressive you will hear, and fans of Absu and early Immortal will find plenty to enjoy – ISKRA exerts overwhelming levels of energy and brutality in Ruins, outpacing and outwitting the vast majority.

ISKRA have toured across scores of countries with countless acts operating in various subsects of underground Punk and Metal and have built up a fearsome international reputation, demonstrated by their heavy patch presence on the battle jackets of the true. A wealth of DIY and independent label releases trails behind them, with numerous albums, splits and demos all available to download for free from their website in accordance with their principles.

Founded in 2001, UNMERCIFUL released its debut, Unmercifully Beaten, in 2006. With intensive tour runs from 2006 through 2009 with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, Decrepit Birth, Cryptopsy, and more, the band went through various personnel changes before deciding to disband in 2009. What started out as just a reunion show in 2012, quickly returned the band to working status. With consistent live shows and numerous metal fest appearances, the band released a self-titled demo in 2014 as a first step in the process to completing its first full-length release in nearly a decade. After the abrupt departure of drummer James King, John Longstreth was enlisted to record drums for Ravenous Impulse.

In July 2015, UNMERCIFUL entered Chapman Studios (Origin, Tech N9NE) to work with longtime producer and friend, Robert Rebeck. Longstreth laid down a phenomenal recording on drums. The rest of the album was recorded and mixed at Clint Appelhanz’s own Waveworks Studio. The process was long and tedious, but the end result is nothing short of sonically devastating. Ravenous Impulse raises the bar of relentless, unmerciful, aggressive, and plainly brutal Death Metal. Spanish Black Metal scourge Sheidim has entered a blood pact with Dark Descent Records for the release its first full-length album.

Shrines of the Void follows the band’s 2015 7-inch vinyl EP, Amidst the Ashes of Consciousness / In the Light of the Dying Stars with seven brand new deadly hymns. The album was recorded and mixed by J. Félez at Moontower Studios and mastered by D. Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studio.

WARFATHER has announced a September 16 release date on Greyhaze Records for sophomore album The Grey Eminence. Featuring Steve Tucker (MORBID ANGEL), WARFATHER’s highly anticipated follow-up to debut album Orchestrating the Apocalypse, was produced by Death Metal icon and studio wizard Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL). Album artwork will be revealed in the near future

The collaboration marks the first time Tucker and Rutan have worked together since MORBID ANGEL’s Gateways to Annihilation. Tucker had this to say about the results:

“I am extremely excited for the release of The Grey Eminence. I feel that this album is one of the best things that I have ever been a part of! Erik Rutan did an amazing job on the production and the songs speak for themselves!”

Canadian Progressive Metal Outfit THIRD ION, featuring former members of THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND, INTO ETERNITY, and ANNIHILATOR, have announced the July 8 release of sophomore album Biolith. BAND BIO:

Third Ion is the product of a mutual love of prog, video games, and science. Formed in 2014 and spread across Canada, the band finished their first full length record by the end of the year; 13/8Bit was released worldwide on Glasstone Records, May 25 2015.

Peaking at #14 on iTunes Metal Charts, 13/8Bit was fully embraced by press across the globe, receiving 9/10 at metal.de, 8.5/10 in Aardshock Magazine, as well as featured streams at Bravewords.com, and Metal Hammer Norway. Unfortunately, shortly after the release of 13/8Bit, singer Tyler Gilbert decided to leave the band to continue focusing on his own original music and career. The band finished writing the followup record while on the hunt for a replacement through the end of the year.

In January of 2016, Third Ion announced that the mighty Dave Padden, had stepped in, and has recorded all the vocals for their sophomore album Biolith, due July 8 2016 on Glasstone Records.

On This Day In KISSTORY – May 18th, 1993 – ‪KISS‘ Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Bruce Kulick were inducted into Hollywood’s famed RockWalk.

At the ceremony in front of fans, friends and family, Paul, Gene and Bruce spoke to the crowd and then left impressions of their hand prints in a block of cement. After adding plates of the KISS logo and their signatures, the stone plaque was later added to RockWalk located at the site of the famed Oriental Theatre now Guitar Center Hollywood. ‪‎(the late) Eric Carr was posthumously inducted into the Rock Walk in 1995 and added to the KISS plaque. – Source: KISS Facebook

Selfmadegod Records has just issued the first single to Overkill Commando, the debut full-length from Polish grindcore quartet, NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST, as the album is completed for Summer release.

NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST, comprised of vocalist Bloodseeker, guitarist XXX-Bomber, drummer Overkiller, and bassist Doomtrigger, recorded twenty brand new songs for their debut album at local Backyard Studios with producer Pawel “Chudy” Chyla in April and May 2016, completing the record just days ago. Overkill Commando is powerful dose of dirty, old-fashioned grindcore heavily influenced by classic bands like Terrorizer, Extreme Noise Terror, and Repulsion. The cover image by Marcin Studzinski of St. Chaos Art, the album’s track listing, and release info have been revealed in addition to the streaming of the album’s opening track, Abominations Of Annihilation.

NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST is a new band born in April 2015 in Świdnik, Poland. That August they released a demo called Mutant Inferno which met with a very positive response, and the band was subsequently offered shows at Into the Abyss Festival alongside Dead Congregation, Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench, and others, Mini Merciless Festival, a run of shows across Ireland with Dead Goats, and more.

In addition to their upcoming Overkill Commando full-length release through Selfmadegod, the Mutant Inferno demo will soon be released as a split cassette through Massacre Distro, a split CD will be released through Defense Records/Mythrone Promotion, and a split 12′ on Devil’s Nun Records is on the way, in each case accompanied by different bands to be announced in the coming months.

Winnipeg based Dark Metal band Noire are pleased to announce that they will be releasing their new EP, The Tracks of the Hunted this summer. WOLVERINE – Swedish Dark Progressive Outfit Releases “Machina” Lyric Video Through New Noise Magazine

Sweden’s masters of dark Progressive Metal, WOLVERINE, have just issued an official lyric video for Machina, the second track on the band’s Sensory Records-bound fifth album, Machina Viva. The “Machina” video is exposed to the public through an exclusive premiere via New Noise Magazine, alongside interesting commentary on the track by the band members.

WOLVERINE‘s first title for the Laser’s Edge Metal division, Sensory Records, Machina Viva will see worldwide release on July 8th. A trailer for the album has also been issued right HERE.

Recorded and produced by WOLVERINE in various locations throughout Sweden during the Autumn and Winter months of late 2015 and early 2016, Machina Viva was mixed at Spacelab Studio in Germany by Christian “Moschus” Moos (Everon, Haken, Delain, Cloverseeds), and mastered by Grammy Award winning audio engineer Bob Katz. A natural progression from the band’s previous album, Communication Lost, released in 2011 via Candlelight Records, Machina Viva invites the listener into the harmonious yet portentous and sullen musical dimensions of WOLVERINE with perhaps their most dynamic album to date.

From the fourteen-minute epic and powerful “The Bedlam Overture” and the dark electronic landscapes of “Machina,” to the naked and organic nature of “Pile Of Ash” and “Sheds,” Machina Viva is the next step in Wolverine’s explorations in the progressive field. The layout features microbiological photos by Arturo Agostino and cover art by drummer Marcus Losbjer. Additionally, the CD edition will bear an additional bonus cello version of “Pile Of Ash.”

Southern California’s Ghoulgotha have re-emerged from the depths with the release of To Starve the Cross. The band’s 2015 debut – The Deathmass Cloak – was praised by critics for its demented revisionism of doom-infused, old-school Death Metal. To Starve the Cross sees Ghoulgotha twist an already abstract reality into forms never before experienced.

Cvlt Nation, in response to the release of The Deathmass Cloak, said it was time to “posers the door.” To Starve the Cross is the 10-headed beast ready to devour those who didn’t heed that warning. This album, simply put, is a masterpiece of atonal and dissonant Death Metal delivered straight from the warped mind of Wayne Sarantopoulos (Decrepitaph, Encoffination, et. al).
