NEW SONG, “YOU GOT SPIRIT, KID”, STREAMING NOW

BAND’S FIRST NON-CONCEPTUAL ALBUM
ARRIVES VIA 300 ENTERTAINMENT

__________________________

NEW YORK, July 7th, 2015 – Coheed and Cambria release their new album, The Color Before The Sun, on Oct. 9th via 300 Entertainment. The band is giving fans an early listen, streaming the song and lyrics for “You Got Spirit, Kid” via Coheedandcambria.com, with the digital download of the single available globally on July 10th.

The Color Before The Sun is the outfit’s eighth studio album and their first non-conceptual release, with the previous offerings forming the larger story of The Amory Wars, a science fiction saga depicting the story of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon. The Color Before The Sun was recorded at St. Charles Studio in Nashville, and produced by Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Eric Church).

The Color Before The Sun marks the first time Claudio Sanchez is exposing his raw feelings, narrated from his own perspective. “I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record,” he explained of the album’s departure from The Amory Wars. “I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”

The New York-based band’s album arrives via the recently formed label, 300 Entertainment who pride themselves on being an independent, creative driven record label that focuses on intense artist development.

300 Entertainment co-founder Lyor Cohen offers, “Coheed and Cambria have created a lane and legacy for themselves that is very much their own. Their DIY approach fits the ethos of 300. They’ve taken some brave artistic steps on this forthcoming new album and we are looking forward to sharing it with the world.”

Funny or Die recently shared an unexpected, new song from the band, with the quartet putting Supreme Court Justice Scalia’s dissenting opinions from the Affordable Care Act and Same-Sex Marriage rulings to music, which can be seen in this clip: http://bit.ly/1eNN7Fs. The video, which has been viewed over 250,000 times, was not only picked up by music and comedy outlets but led a chorus of tweets and re-tweets from politicos including Michael Moore, Paul Begala and Chris Hayes.

Coheed and Cambria return to the road in August with several festival appearances including headlining spots at Riot Fest and Fun Fun Fun Fest as well as a trio of special European performances of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.

Coheed and Cambria on tour:

August 8 Nashville, TN Ink-N-Iron Festival

About 300 Entertainment

Pavement Music To Release Self-titled Album From Thrash Pioneers SONICK PLAGUE

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 3, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sonick Plague - promo band pic - 2015 - #MOCTNIFHSLN03369

Pavement Music has announced a July 24 release for the self-titled, re-recorded and re-energized version of the 1988 debut from old-school thrash-masters Sonick Plague. Originally titled “What’s the Purpose,” this updated version of the album was recorded at the legendary Carriage House Studios and captures the powerful energy and grit of the origins of thrash metal.

Sonick Plauge are veterans (and some say) pioneers of the classic, thrash metal sound. This raw and lively sound originated in the hills of West Virginia in 1984. The lineup was solidified in Connecticut a few years later with founders Ken Cuccaro (drums) and Tim Meehan (guitars), along with Tony Teodoro (guitars) and Sean Donnelly (bass, vox).

Things started moving for Plague when they landed their first show at the legendary Anthrax in Norwalk, CT. Owners Shaun and Brian Sheriden signed the metal quartet to their own label (Anthrax Records) and the debut album, What’s the Purpose, was released in 1988. Immediately after the album’s release, Tim Meehan retreated south and (after an exhaustive search) was replaced by childhood friend Chuck Crilly (guitars). The band embarked on a self-supported tour and played alongside the likes of Death Angel, Voivod, Gwar, Pantera, Ludichrist, Crumbsuckers and many more. The tour took its toll on the guys and after a couple unsuccessful lineup changes, the band dissolved.

In 2012 Sonick Plague lost their beloved friend and brother Tony Teodoro. The tragic and untimely passing found Ken, Sean and Chuck talking again and soon back to their old musical form. Matt Dupre was recruited to round out the reformed band and a decision was made to re-record and release the debut album while they continue working on material for a follow-up.

MAGISTER TEMPLI – To Release ‘Into Duat’ On Cruz Del Sur Music In August

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 1, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Magister Templi - promo band photo - 2015 - #4408NIL

After having deeply explored the different aspects of Crowley’s philosophy on their previous releases Iao Sabao and Lucifer Leviathan Logos, Norwegian occult Heavy Metal band MAGISTER TEMPLI returns with its second full length, Into Duat, in which they focus thematically on some of the central myths and gods of Egyptian Mythology (“Duat” is the realm of the God Osiris).

Into Duat is targeted for release at the end of August, followed by an active live campaign, which will bring the band to play at the No Sleep Til Dublin Festival 2015 and afterwards on an European tour with Christian Mistress. Into Duat was recorded in Oslo between Evil Octopus and Sorcerer studios, with former band member Simon Aarset as technician.

As in their vinyl 7” release Nyarlathotep (2014), the band had moved even further away from their doom-inspired beginnings, towards a more open-minded musical experience strongly based on filthy traditional Heavy Metal. Heavy guitars, intense drumming and commanding vocals are key ingredients.

Track List:

  1. Creation
  2. The Lord of the Morning
  3. Osiris
  4. Horus the Avenger
  5. Anubis
  6. Sobek
  7. Slaying Apophis
  8. Destruction

BLOW THE SCENE Hosts PAWS Benefit Show July 10th: Mother Brain, Gut Feeling, Grin And Bear It, Die Choking, Drones For Queens To Perform

Posted in charity events, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on June 30, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Blow The Scene - Paws Benefit Show - July 10 - 2015 - Philly - promo flyer

Next week, Philadelphia-based underground music, arts and activism webzine, Blow The Scene, will host its annual benefit show for PAWS – the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society – with a wide array of artists set to perform and a wealth of other activities confirmed.

Blow The Scene Presents A Night of Music / Art & Animal Love, set to take place next Friday, July 10th at The Pharmacy in South Philly. Sponsored by Psychics.com, Earsplit PR and Sit & Spin Records, the show will be used to collect donations to aid PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society), and will include live performances from Mother Brain (Long Island grindcore champs), Gut Feeling (North Carolina hardcore act with members of Catharsis, Undying and more), Grin And Bear It (Cleveland powerhouse PV/punk), Dying (Philly XVX hardcore), Die Choking (Philly hyper grinders) and Drones For Queens (Philly shredders).

Additionally, an art show is part of the benefit, where many artists from all over the world are donating art prints that will be on display and for sale at this cash and carry event curated by Ryann Casey. Attendees will be able purchase rad art pieces for very reasonable prices. All monies collected from the art sales in addition to the $10 admittance fee will ALL be donated to PAWS!

Those not in the area can also take part in the benefit; people everywhere can donate and get awesome rewards from BlowTheScene including band pictures of your choice printed on METAL!

Check it all out and please support the fundraiser RIGHT HERE.

Also see the official event page HERE, an article on the bands performing at the show HERE.

Those attending please do not bring your pets to the event; as much as we’d love to see them, loud shows are not a healthy environment for animals with sensitive hearing.

Artists can also donate their works to the event. Donated art can be any work on paper (old or new) and should be unframed (all work will be hung with wire and/or T-pins). We are also asking that all pieces be no larger than 20×24 so we can plan space accordingly and should be priced reasonably (the max price is $50 since this is a cash and carry event). Because of the quantity of work going into this show, we are asking that everything be either dropped off or received by no later than Sunday July 5th.

Desolate Pathway - promo live band pic - 2015 - #062815MOGNLSLBVM

Traditional Doom merchants Desolate Pathway have unveiled plans for new material which explores a different direction to their début album Valley Of The King – a two-track single, titled: Into The Realms. Guitarist Vince Hempstead has called it “a foot into our journey of Greek mythology.”

The A-side, entitled “Into The Realms Of Poseidon”, features acclaimed Sorrows Path guitarist Kostas Salomidis for a dose of Greek authenticity. On the B-side is a five-minute instrumental titled “Tales Of Glaucus”, a prophetic sea-god who came to the rescue of sailors and fishermen.

Along with the usual digital formats, there will be a limited amount of CDs available at the Fest Of Hades performance in Wakefield, UK. The band have stated on their Facebook page that they may look into a small vinyl run, depending on costs. In addition, their second album is on the horizon, with a tentative deadline of early 2016.

“Into The Realms” has a release date of October 31st, 2015 to tie in with the Fest Of Hades performance that day. Facebook event is here:

https://www.facebook.com/events/633317746795099/

Aug 30th: The Carlisle, Hastings, w/ Lord Volture & Toledo Steel

“Into The Realms” has a release date of 31st October 2015 to tie in with the Fest Of Hades performance that day.

Bio:
Having formed in April 2014, Desolate Pathway bring together their love of traditional and retro doom bands such as Candlemass, Cirith Ungol and Solitude Aeternus, as well as ideas drawn from epic fantasy such as Lord Of The Rings, A Song Of Ice And Fire and the Vikings TV series. Channeling these into their début album Valley Of The King, the band has been met with great success and praise. Among the high-scoring reviews and top-notch gig offers, one of the standout unique moments is an appearance on iFood.tv’s Brutally Delicious program, a heavy metal cooking show hosted by Bruce Moore.

BAT – Speed Metal Miscreants Added To Mammoth Gwar B-Q Lineup; Additional Live Abrasions Confirmed + New Living Fast Episode Available

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on June 26, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Bat - large logo - B&W - #1

BAT, the unholy supergroup featuring Municipal Waste guitarist Ryan Waste on bass/vocals, former DRI drummer Felix Griffin and Volture guitarist Nick Poulos, is very pleased to announce their recent addition to this year’s Gwar B-Q in Richmond, Virginia alongside the likes of The Descendents, Cro-Mags, Ghoul, Ringworm, Child Bite and more! The band’s Gwar B-Q appearance follows a headlining performance in Raleigh and serves as a precursor to a rare run of live abrasions through Richmond, Cleveland, Chicago and Pittsburgh in September.

Comments Waste of the oncoming onstage demolitions, “After finishing up our debut full length album on Hells Headbangers this summer, we in BAT are gearing up for a short run around some rad US festivals. The first being the Gwar B-Q in our hometown of Richmond, which is always wet and wild. Come September, we hit the road again to play in Cleveland at the Hell’s Headbash. We’re thrilled to play with our pals in High Spirits and Midnight on the opening night. Beforehand, we’re cramming in another hometown gig and hitting Chicago and Pittsburgh to round out the Labor Day weekend. Come rage with us and always beware of the BAT!”

BAT:

8/14/2015 Southland Ballroom – Raleigh, NC

8/15/2015 Gwar B-Q @ Hadad’s Lake – Richmond, VA

9/03/2015 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA
9/04/2015 Hell’s Headbash (Agora) – Cleveland, OH

9/05/2015 El Rey Ballroom – Chicago, IL
9/06/2015 Smiling Moose – Pittsburgh, PA

Bat - large logo - B&W - #1

The Virginia/Texas meta punk marauders in BAT released their Primitive Age EP last year on cassette via Tankcrimes and on 12″ vinyl via Hells Headbangers. Channeling the spirits of Venom, Hellhammer, Motörhead and Discharge, the EP features five filthy numbers of confrontational Kill ‘Em All angst and enough vocal venom to level a nation. Said Last Rites of the offering, “This nasty little beast is a crust-a-licious demo-nic hybrid of ugly gutter thrash with a vicious punk spirit and a dose of injected blackness. Jump back thirty years to an uncomfortable-yet-awesome three-way between Cronos, Lemmy, and Tom Warrior (or, whatever, Satanic Slaughter) – then BOOM, BAT! A close 21st-century equivalent would be Midnight, only with less sleazy Satanic debauchery and more of an all-encompassing generalized rebelliousness.”

The Primitive Age EP is available digitally at the official BAT BandCamp page HERE and on cassette via Tankcrimes HERE (where you’ll also find additional merch). You can also nab a copy of BAT‘s recently issued “Cruel Discipline” seven-inch out on Hells Headbangers HERE as well as the 12″ version of Primitive Age.

In related news, Living Fast, the heavy metal talk show created by Waste continues to reap views from the headbanging public. The first episode featured John Gallagher of Raven while the second episode, divided into two parts, takes place during the Caulture Shock Tour with Cauldron and Waste’s heavy metal band, Volture, where Waste visits with Michael Denner (Mercyful Fate) at Beat Bop Records, his second-hand vinyl shop located in the heart of Copenhagen. Recently unleashed, Canadian edition third episode features Dave Carlo and Mike Campagnolo of Razor and number one Anvil fan, Colin “Maddog” Brown. Get viewing at THIS LOCATION.

“TANG Rocks!” – Dee Snider

NYC – One of the hottest releases of 2015 is undoubtedly the new album by dual female fronted alternative metal power trio TANG featuring a guest appearance by legendary Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider! Titled “Blood & Sand”, TANG’s new CD features a duet with Dee Snider on the track “Reign of Blood”!

Says guitarist Denny Colt, “Bonnie knew Dee from back in the day when they both did the club circuit…I hooked up with Dee when I was in Van Helsing’s Curse with him..so we have quite the connection. He’s a really nice guy & did such a great job on the duet with Bonnie on ‘Reign of Blood.’”

Hailing from New York, TANG features Bonnie Parker on Vox & Bass and Denny Colt on Vox, Lead Guitar & Keyboards, and have been trading phrases back and forth in their own ripping style since 1999. Mark Edwards, formerly of Criss Angel & Burning Star, now brings skull-splitting drum beats and a monster attitude. TANG has toured Europe, Canada and the US opening shows for such artists as Crucified Barbara, Girlschool, W.A.S.P., Dokken, Hammerfall, Helloween, Dee Snider, Symphony X and many, many other cool bands.

Denny played guitar, toured & recorded in Dee Snider’s “Van Helsing’s Curse”, the gothic rock orchestra. Bonnie & Denny have currently played, toured & recorded, with Corky Laing from Mountain in his new band “Corky Laing & The Memory Thieves”. They are also working with Corky in Finland, writing, recording & performing on a rock opera called “Playing God” which was presented in Helsinki in 2014. The opera was presented in the US in April 2015 at Yale University & Hunter College.

I love the total rock vibe of the new TANG CD! It’s real, it’s vital – it’s brilliant.” – Corky Laing

TANG is featured in the new Fred Carpenter film, “Charlie Mantle”, performing their song “Crashing”. The film debuted summer of 2014 and stars Armand Assante, Sean Young and Robert Funaro. Says Bonnie, “TANG was in the film performing the song in a Russian mob club as the lead character, Robert Funaro (of The Soprano’s), is at the end of his dirty cop career & everything is ‘crashing’ down around him. Great concept by director Fred Carpenter!”

Now much to the excitement of their fans worldwide, on September 1, 2015, TANG is releasing their new CD “Blood & Sand”!

Says Denny, “TANG is currently promoting the release of ‘Blood & Sand’ doing shows in the tri-state area. We are talking with promoters in Europe, Scandinavia & the US about setting up a tour. Our first CD, ‘Mental Pollution’ was on a Swedish label, Raw Power UK and we toured Scandinavia to support it. The tours were very successful culminating with TANG performing at the Sweden Rock Fest.”

Chicago-based Metal powerhouse TRIALS will release their third full-length, “This Ruined World” on July 24.

Following a pair of critically acclaimed independent releases – Witness to the Downfall (2011) and In the Shadow of Swords (2013), TRIALS has returned with their most evolved effort to date. Featuring nine tracks of intricately woven, relentless and forward-thinking metal, This Ruined World blends aggression and progression for devastating results. Diehard DIYers, TRIALS is a band determined to blaze its own path, free from label interference. This unwavering dedication to substance over style has never been more apparent than it is on This Ruined World.

This Ruined World contains some of the darkest, most complex music that we have made yet. We put a lot of blood and sweat into this project, and ended up with a record that represents us at our very best,” stated guitarist / vocalist Mark Sugar.

The album was recorded by Pete Grossmann at Bricktop Recording (Weekend Nachos, Hollow Earth) and mixed by Quentin Poynter at Gunpoint Recording (The Skull, Veil of Maya), with art work courtesy of Eva Bialecki (Jar’d Loose).

TRIALS will self-release This Ruined World on July 24, on CD and digital formats. Stream album track “Don’t Believe the Word” and the band’s cover of Strapping Young Lad’s “Far Beyond Metal” at trials.bandcamp.com or below:

SOULFLY – Releasing Tenth Studio Album “Archangel” On August 14th, via Nuclear Blast

Soulfly - Archangel - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #060515MONLSSLN0214

On August 14th (worldwide) Metal icons Soulfly will release their 10th studio album, Archangel, via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The stunning cover artwork was created by artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH, SODOM) for the band’s upcoming dark and atmospheric masterpiece.

”I am so proud to be releasing SOULFLY’s tenth album,” comments founder/vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera. “I feel it is my most mystic album since Prophecy. The guest collaborations have always been a trademark of SOULFLY and Archangel is no different! We can’t wait to play this live for the worldwide tribe!”

In regards to the band and the album cover, artist Eliran Kantor states:
”I’ve been a fan of Max’s music ever since discovering Beneath The Remains in high school. When my wife and I got married ‘Territory’ was even played at the dance party part of our wedding.

“Max asked me to do a traditional piece depicting Archangel Michael – and I tried to go beyond the straight-up neo-classical style as that has been perfected centuries ago, so I mixed in SOULFLY’s own visual world: hence the wings and spear being shaped like the SOULFLY tribal icon, the cliff with the ocean view just like on the first record, and the Brazilian flag being the core of its color scheme.”
Archangel was produced and mixed by Matt Hyde (SLAYER, BEHEMOTH, CHILDREN OF BODOM). Check out the track list for all formats and list of guest performers on the album below.

Pre-order Archangel in a bundle or by itself in multiple formats and from this location: http://nblast.de/SoulflyArchangelNB

IRON MAIDEN “The Book Of Souls” – Double Studio Album Releasing On September 4th!

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on June 19, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

20996_10152858767897051_8504180159185829641_n

As reported on the Iron Maiden Facebook:

IRON MAIDEN’s eagerly awaited new studio album The Book Of Souls will be released globally on 4th September through Parlophone Records (BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch.

The stunning cover art was created by Mark Wilkinson who has worked with the band previously, and because this 11 track album has a total running time of 92 minutes, it is IRON MAIDEN’s first ever double studio album. There’s a broader split on the song-writing compared to previous Maiden records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; 6 of them with Maiden’s guitarists and one sole composition. This is also the first time since 1984’s Powerslave that an IRON MAIDEN studio album also features two tracks written solely by Bruce Dickinson, one of which is the longest song Maiden has ever recorded! And also two Dickinson/Smith collaborations.

Steve comments,

“We approached this album in a different way to how we’ve recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them I think. I’m very proud of The Book Of Souls, we all are, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!”

Bruce continues,

“We’re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we’d done the Brave New World album back in 2000 so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there! So we immediately felt at home and the ideas just started flowing. By the time we’d finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double it’s going to be!”

The Book Of Souls is the band’s 16th studio album since their eponymous debut in 1980 charted at #4 in the UK, in a career achieving sales of over 90 million albums worldwide. Their previous album, 2010’s The Final Frontier was Maiden’s most successful chart-wise to date, reaching Number One in 28 countries and was their highest chart debut in the U.S reaching #4 in the Billboard 200.

Due to Bruce’s illness the band had to delay touring plans but promise to be out on the road again early next year, giving time for Bruce to make a full physical recovery to be ready for the rigours of Maiden live performances.
