The album releases next week on May 12th via Crowquill Records, but you can now stream it in full at Decibel now. About Sisters Of

Sisters of… is a genre-defying project from St. Joseph, Missouri. Multi-instrumentalist Aaron Coker (ex-Appleseed Cast, Reggie & The Full Effect) was joined by Chris Clark and together Sisters of… was born. Tired of musical limitations, Coker’s idea of blending heavy and atmospheric sounds was realized in a track that evolved into the cornerstone of Sisters of…’s first EP, Follow Me as a Ghost. Layers of post-rock, metal, and experimental elements build evocative soundscapes that expand beyond the conventional themes of life and death.

Impressed by Follow Me as a Ghost, which St. Joseph’s News-Press called “experimental metal at its finest,” Crowquill Records invited Sisters of… to join the label and work jointly toward the actualization of Sisters of…’s first full-length, which will be released in May of 2015.

UNBREAKABLE HATRED – Canadian Death Metal Trio Joins Unique Leader Records For Multi-Album Deal

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on May 3, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Unbreakable Hatred - Promo band pic - 2015 - #0503MOUH

Quebec City-based death metal trio, UNBREAKABLE HATRED, recently joined the expanding roster of extreme metal powerhouse, Unique Leader Records.

Comments the band: “We’re extremely excited to announce that UNBREAKABLE HATRED signed a multi-album deal with Unique Leader Records! We are looking forward to working with a label that has stood the test of time while continuing to expand their diverse death metal roster. We are honored to be a part of the Unique Leader family and we are ready for what is coming up. With our team behind us, we can’t wait to see UNBREAKABLE HATRED grow.”

Forged in 2008 by guitarist Philippe Drouin, his drummer brother Dominic and vocalist/bassist Simon B. Lapointe, UNBREAKABLE HATRED spews forth a mutinous amalgam of old school death metal brutality, modern technical wizardry and blistering groove making for relentlessly visceral sound expedition. The band released their debut full-length, Total Chaos, in 2011 via Galy/Lacerated Enemy Records. Largely underrated but no less scalding, Sea Of Tranquility noted, “UNBREAKABLE HATRED… play a brand of technical death metal and grindcore that is as brutal as it is catchy,” further crowning it, “an all-around solid affair that shows plenty of promise.”

Unbreakable Hatred - band logo - 2014 - #6369MOUHL

In a 4/5 rating, Sputnik Music applauded the band’s versatility. “Rather than remaining excessively tethered to a single structure, Total Chaos often has varying time signatures between the instruments that resonate well when meshed just right — particularly the rhythm guitar and the drums — and that the band pulled this feat off and still have a sound structure just screams skilled.” Added Bravewords, “Fortifying the link between Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy and The Last Felony, UNBREAKABLE HATRED is one of Quebec’s latest new hopes, the group a feat of technical death worthy of some sort of engineering degree… Total Chaos is a record built on supreme musicianship, attention to detail and a steely determination to impart its will while crawling through the haze of the multitude.”

UNBREAKABLE HATRED will release their sophomore full-length via Unique Leader Records later this year. Further info to be announced in the coming weeks.

Words from the converted:

UNBREAKABLE HATRED is one of Canada’s premier death metal acts; this trio of power lays waste to the listeners ear drums on every level and then some!” – Terrance Hobbs, Suffocation

UNBREAKABLE HATRED blew us away each night with their energy and ripping songs; it was a total pleasure to have them on our tour and the best is most certainly to come – Ferocious!” – Jason Netherton, Misery Index

UNBREAKABLE HATRED from Quebec are definitely one of the new bands out there to be recognized! Once again proving that Quebec musicians are on top of their Game! ” – Flo Mounier, Cryptopsy

“Great musicians, brutally heavy and very strong live, definitely a band to watch out for.” – Bobby Koelble, Death

Hailing from South Jersey, combining technicality, guitar solos, grooves, and abstract ideas with song writing, Cognitive is continually pushing itself to think outside of the box while maintaining a sheer brutal edge.

The 2012 release of their debut EP, The Horrid Swarm, proved Cognitive to be one of the most brutal and intense new bands on the scene and led to a deal with Spain’s Pathologically Explicit Records. Since then, Cognitive has embarked upon countless weekend-warrior tours, three extended outings with the likes of Devourment, Psyopus, Gorod, Wormed, Infernal Revulsion, and Condemned and has shared bills with bands such as Between the Buried and Me, Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Broken Hope, Wretched, Misery Index, Origin and tons more.

With their new self-titled album, featuring artwork by Tony Koehl (Black Dahlia Murder,Job For a Cowboy, et al.), released to worldwide acclaim, Cognitive seeks only to advance itself musically and export New Jersey’s undying hatred globally.

LEGENDARY METAL CHURCH SINGER MIKE HOWE RETURNS TO THE BAND!

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on May 1, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Metal Church - Mike Howe - Is Back - promo flyer - 2015 - #016MCMORPR

From Rat Pak Records:

Legendary front-man Mike Howe returns to Metal Church! In the summer of 2014 the band suddenly found themselves in need of a new singer. As fate would have it, Kurdt was already in talks with Mike for another project that he was working on with Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler, so he decided to ask Mike to rejoin Metal Church. Mike agreed, but true to form, didn’t want to make it official until he knew for sure that the integrity of the new material was there.

In Mike’s own words: ” I didn’t want to come back to Metal Church just for nostalgia, it had to be for the right reasons, it had to be the best stuff we’ve ever written together or it just wouldn’t be worth it to anyone, especially the fans.”  Soon after, Kurdt and Mike began exchanging ideas and writing new material with the band. The end result sounds like “Classic Mike Howe era Metal Church, it’s both heavy and melodic” says guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof and further states “Mike sounds the same as he did 20 years ago, this is going to be truly epic!!” Drummer Jeff Plate comments, “Mike Howe is the ONLY singer for Metal Church. He has a reputation of complete honor and respect.  We can now take Metal Church to the next level!”

Mike Howe originally joined Metal Church in the late 80’s and released 3 albums with the band: “The Human Factor”, “Blessing In Disguise” and “Hanging in the Balance”. Mike was also the face of popular music videos “Date With Poverty” and “Badlands” that aired during MTV’s heyday.

The band is currently in the process of working on their new album, which will be released later this year via Rat Pak Records.   Metal Church is: Mike Howe (Vocals), Kurdt Vanderhoof (Guitars) Jeff Plate (Drums), Steve Unger (Bass) and Rick VanZandt (Guitars).

Stone Says: WTF? To 10 Heavy Metal / Hard Rock Facts

Stone Says - WTF? - promo heading banner - Metal Odyssey - 2015

I love and live for Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. However, there are those factual incidents during the history of my beloved Heavy Music genres that make me say… WTF? Below is a list of 10 factual situations that maybe will have you saying WTF? Maybe not. Nevertheless, in no particular order, this list seems to taunt me and I am fed up with them all. Enjoy:

01. Why is Guns ‘N Roses in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? WTF?

02. Why did Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons hand over, on a silver platter, the characters of “Space Ace” and “The Cat” to Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, respectively? WTF?

03. Why are IRON MAIDEN not in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? WTF?

04. Why is Vince Neil gonna appear on the reality trash show: Celebrity Wife Swap? WTF?

05. Why did Judas Priest feel it was a grand idea to perform on American Idol, back on March 1st, 2011? WTF? Not to mention, performing with James Durbin? WTF again??

06. Why are Metallica ONLY following 26 people on Twitter, when 2.79 million people follow them on the same social network? WTF? WTF again?

07. What the F*CK is “Baby Metal”? WTF?

08. What was (former) AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd thinking? WTF?

09. Why hasn’t Poison released a new studio album of original songs in over 15 years? WTF?

10. Why are there people in the media and fans that keep sparking rumors about a PANTERA reunion with Zakk Wylde on guitar? NO guitarist can replace the late and legendary Dimebag Darrell in PANTERA. NO one. Let’s cut the shit already and grow the F*CK up. You know who you are. WTF?

GOATSNAKE – One-Off Pioneertown Show And “Black Age Blues” Album Listening Party In Los Angeles Approaching This Weekend

With GOATSNAKE‘s newest LP in a decade-and-a-half, Black Age Blues, nearing its unveiling in early June, this weekend the band has several special Southern California pre-release actions planned. First up, this Saturday, May 2nd the band will venture out to secluded Pioneertown for a one-off show at Pappy and Harriet’s. The next day, Sunday, May 3rd, sees the band hosting a public record listening party in Los Angeles where members of GOATSNAKE will be in attendance and fans can hear the entire album a full month before its release.

Interviews with GOATSNAKE at the listening party are welcomed, as are phone interviews with the band in advance of the upcoming release of Black Age Blues.

Following this weekend’s actions, the band also has a record release show in Los Angeles on May 20th, followed by their first performance at Maryland Deathfest just days later. That same week they head to Europe for a week-long tour kicking off with a set at Temples Festival.

Goatsnake - Black Age Blues - 2015 - promo album cover pic - GMO03

Preorders for Black Age Blues will go live at the new GOATSNAKE store this coming Monday, May 4th alongside the release of the LP’s next single and more. In addition to the physical preorders, iTunes will have the album available for preorder offering the tracks “Black Age Blues” and “Elevated Man” for instant download, and also available to purchase individually the following day.

The maiden single from Black Age Blues, “Elevated Man,” was recently premiered at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; the vocals of Pete Stahl (Scream) vocals have never sounded so powerful, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers (The Obsessed) on drums and Scott Renner on bass is the driving force on each track, and the riffs of guitarist Greg Anderson (SunnO))), Southern Lord Recordings) are heavier than ever before. Recorded and mixed at Rock Falcon Franklin, Tennessee by Nick Raskulinecz (Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Rush) and mastered by Brian Big Bass Gardner (N.W.A., Stevie Wonder, Parliament), the production values of Black Age Blues back the top-notch musicianship, creating a seriously unstoppably entertaining album.

Black Age Blues will be released through Southern Lord Recordings in North America on June 2nd, 2015.

The King Is Blind – Recording New Album

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , on April 29, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

The King Is Blind - promo band logo - 2015 - #0429MO

A very successful 2014 saw East Anglian Monolithic Metal Titans The King Is Blind establish themselves as a band to watch out for with the release of their critically acclaimed first EP The Deficiencies of Man via Mordgrimm (“A searing statement of intent… deathly ferocity and doomy threat” KKKK – Kerrang!) and a series of impressive live shows including notable performances at prestigious festivals Bloodstock and HammerFest VII, where they were described as “scabrous, muscular and underpinned by monstrous grooves… distinct and vital” (Dom Lawson, Metal Hammer)

And so to 2015, the year that will see The King Is Blind ascend to the throne of UK metal with their potent brand of weighty riffs, powerful grooves and epic and dynamic compositions that blend all the best elements of scenes passed, and present with a wilful and distinctive contemporary feel.

Working once more with producer Tom Donovan, TKIB are currently ensconced in Tom Donovan Studios in rural Essex recording their debut full-length, an album described as “an involved and dark concept album”. With a profound and terrifying narrative arc, not only will the band’s debut album examine further the deficiencies of man, it will seek to uncover the true nature of the relationship of mankind and sin, and the origins of that connection, against a backdrop of high quality extreme metal compositions.

The King Is Blind - promo band pic - #042915MO

“The Deficiencies of Man was us in the embryonic stages of our development, both musically and conceptually. What is being realized on our debut album is a post-chrysalis explosion and a fulfilment of ideas.

“It’s a complex and complete album, one that has seen us challenge ourselves to produce something outside of and above, the norm for the heavy end of metal. It is a varied, multifaceted and aggressive concept album that, we hope, will take its place as part of the legacy of great UK metal albums” (Steve Tovey – lyrics/vocals)

The King Is Blind play Temples Festival on Sunday, May 31st.

Praise for – The Deficiencies of Man

“Raging against the dying light has never sounded more powerful” – METAL HAMMER

“The groove of old school death metal, yet appreciative of newer styles… with deliciously doomy riffs for good measure” – TERRORIZER

“How fresh The King Is Blind sounds might surprise you, but your crushing bangover won’t” – KERRANG

Nihilistic Black Metallers THE NEGATION Release Album Teaser Video

Posted in Black Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 27, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Kaotoxin - Record Label - logo - #2015KRMO20

The Negation - promo band pic - 2015 - 0428MOTN660

Metal Underground has partnered with Kaotoxin for the premiere of a teaser video for Memento Mori, the upcoming album from nihilistic Black Metal group THE NEGATION. Check it out at this location.

The sophomore album will be released by Kaotoxin as a 500-copy limited edition deluxe three-panel DigiSleeve CD first press (followed by crystal / jewel box reprint) with 20-page booklet, as well as digitally, on July 7 in North America (July 10 for the rest of the world).

Produced at the Hybreed Studio (Temple of Baal, Glorior Belli) and with artwork by Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Watain), Memento Mori features ten tracks of powerful, heavy, intense and extremely dark Black Metal. But don’t expect straightforward Satan-praise here: there’s far more than meets the eye with THE NEGATION. Their lyrical conceptual is a call to resistance against the so-called élite who are making this world a living Hell. It’s about a stand for liberty, free speech, and free will! Folks that got the chance to witness THE NEGATION on stage during their recent tour with MARDUK and BELPHEGOR will testify their live performance is as extreme as their lyrical content is dark. You’ve been warned!

THE NEGATION will also take part of the second annual KaotoxinFest on December 5th in Lille (FR). Until further details are announced, get crushed by the official music video for the track “Red Wrath” taken from their debut full-length!  Check it out here or below:

The band released its debut full-length Paths of Obedience (2013), was a conceptual statement about their hate for mankind and its submissive behavior, its total lack of consciousness and the fact it should end it all now. The new album is a scream of hate and anger and a call to resistance. Influenced by the legendary acts they’ve been touring or sharing the stages with (Marduk, Belphegor, Inquisition), as well as by other acts such as Dark Funeral or DeathSpell Omega, THE NEGATION will prove itself a world-class act with their second release. Beware!

DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL – Inaugural Connecticut Based Metal Fest Announced For August 2015

Death To False Metal Festival - promo flyer - Hamden - CT - 2015 - August - MO

Whiplash, Valkyrie, Imperial Triumphant, Krieg, Secrets Of The Sky, Immortal Bird, Godhunter, Secret Cutter, Nightbitch And More Confirmed

__________________________

This August, the maiden installment of a brand new metal fest will take over Hamden, Connecticut, dubbed DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL. Born out of a desire to bring together some of the best touring acts in the world with quality local and regional metal acts, DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL hopes to create what we hope will become one of the premiere metal festivals in the US.

Sponsored by Metal Insider and Earsplit PR, the first DEATH TO FALSE METAL gathering is set to take place on Friday, August 14th and Saturday the 15th at The Outer Space & Ballroom in Hamden, just outside of New Haven, Connecticut. Friday night’s lineup will feature thrash legends Whiplash, Valkyrie (Relapse Records), Imperial Triumphant, Nightbitch, Vengeance, and Bedroom Rehab Corporation.

Saturday night will feature USBM stalwarts Krieg (Candlelight Records), Secrets Of The Sky (Metal Blade Records), Immortal Bird, Destroyer Of Light, Godhunter (The Compound Recs/Battleground Records), Secret Cutter, Tomb & Thirst, Grizzlor and Archaic Decapitator.

Tickets for DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL go on sale on May 1st at the festival’s Facebook page RIGHT HERE. You can also follow the event on Twitter at @dtfmfestival.

Issues festival curator, Chip McCabe, on the founding of this now annual event, “The name DEATH TO FALSE METAL is actually a bit tongue-in-cheek. The metal scene is littered with way too many people who carry an ‘I’m more underground than you’ attitude, which I find amusing, so the title is dedicated to them. However, the name does reflect that we are looking for a certain aesthetic for the bands that play this festival. Our lineup is fairly eclectic, with thrash, death metal, black metal, doom, grindcore, traditional metal, etc. But we will not stand for generic, cookie-cutter garbage; we want the best of the best, every year.”

MONSTERWORKS – Tracking New Album At Rockfield Studios In Wales

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on April 27, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Monsterworks - promo band pic - 2015 - #042715MO

Hot off the heels of the recently released The Existential Codex, London’s MONSTERWORKS hit the studio this week to record the follow-up. The band is tracking at Rockfield Studios in Wales. Guitarist/vocalist Jon offered this studio update:

“Here we are in Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire. This is exciting for the band and me personally because some of the greatest acts in rock and metal have recorded here, like my all-time favourite album, Judas Priest’s Sad Wings of Destiny; not to mention Queen (various parts off Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera) and Black Sabbath with Dio (including swan song The Devil You Know).  More recently Opeth recorded Pale Communion here which is hailed as a sonic masterpiece ….and although we can’t quite afford their full production team, we’ll do our best to come up with a dynamic album that sounds amazing by channelling some of the Rockfield magic!

It is day three and all drums, bass and half the rhythm guitars are down. Vocals will be later today and tomorrow…where I will stand in the same room as Halford when he belted out ‘The Ripper’ nearly 40 years ago. Thanks to our engineer Tim Lewis for a really smooth ride so far.”

The Existential Codex was released February 27th, on Eat Lead & Die Music. The six-track digital version is available as a free download . The 73-minute CD comes with bonus tracks, as well as Blu-Ray of 5.1 Surround and HD stereo mixes on the UK group’s Bandcamp page.

Another in a long line of super metal masterpieces, The Existential Codex is also available for purchase at http://monsterworks.bigcartel.com/.

Cave Of Swimmers Talk About New Album ‘Reflection’

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , on April 26, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Cave Of Swimmers - promo band pic - 2015 - #04COSMO99

With the release of Reflection drawing near, it could appear quite apt that the Miami based duo talk about their forthcoming album in more detail. Originally from Venezuela, vocalist and multi instrumentalist G.E. Perez and drummer/percussionist Toro explain the recording process, lyrical content and influences.

Recorded at Weeks Recording Studio in Coral Gables and Crossbridge Studio in Pinecrest, Florida, all the music for Reflection was tracked in a mere 4 days!

“We rehearsed a lot prior to entering the studio to record”, G.E. Perez begins. “So when we finally went into it, we were very focused, rehearsed, tight… we recorded basic tracks (drums, rhythm guitars) in only 2 days. We took 2 more days to do solos and vocals. So the whole album was recorded in only 4 days.”

Speaking about the writing process in terms of anything being pre-empted or whether the album was written more organically G.E. Perez states that “there are spaces for improvisation in our music… the mid section of ‘The Skull’ is a great example… ‘Reflection’, the instrumental, has some improvisation in it as well… Especially from Toro’s part. He played his ass off on this record… In any case, for the most part, we rehearsed and composed in our practice room.” Toro adding that the way they write is very organic. “We get together in a small room and just start playing. Whatever comes out… Then we start following the train of thought into wherever the music takes us.”

Cave Of Swimmers - Reflection - promo album cover pic - 2015

G.E. Perez goes on to talk about the lyrics: “For me particularly, it was very cathartic to write about how my father neglected my family when I was very young… He just disappeared from the face of the earth. Going from that premise, I thought it’d be cool to draw a parallel with certain bible stories, even though I’m not particularly religious. However, if you want to interpret it that way, like we’re singing about ‘El Diablo’ and stuff, I guess that’s cool too.”

On influences G.E. Perez says: “As individuals, it may sound clichéd, but our influences are certainly very eclectic. Toro plays in jazz groups, I play Flamenco guitar… I also have a whole new appreciation for the piano. I love Jaco and Wes too. Having said that, when we come together in a room, what comes out is what we listened to when we were in school, which is rock n’ roll. We also love 80’s and early 90’s merengue. As far as bands; everything… all the usual suspects, from AC/DC to ZZ Top.”

Toro adds: “We obviously listen to a lot of different types of music. The fact we grew up in South America sets us apart in a good way because we were exposed to Latin music. Right about when G and I started playing rock and metal we also played salsa in a school ensemble. We were only 16 and we got to play all over town. As we grew musically we started exploring other instruments and jazz, classical, American folk music… You name it. When we get together in a room our most primal instinct is to play heavy music, however, we can’t deny our mixed background of eclectic influences.”

Cave Of Swimmers - Reflection - promo album cover pic - 2015

Heavy Metal, 70’s Hard Rock, Doom, Stoner, Sludge… Miami duo Cave Of Swimmers are a band that well and truly whet aural senses. Seamlessly weaving an expanse of styles Cave Of Swimmers ARE a band like no other, and reactions from the media and fans alike to their self-titled 2013 debut is testament to that.

Packing the van and hitting the dusty trail, Cave Of Swimmers furthered their name even more throughout 2014, earning them a reputation for a band that’s real with a live show like no other, out of control and full of raw energy.

Following numerous bouts on the road in support of the record, the band headed back to Florida and recorded a brand new album, Reflection, which see’s the light of day on 04th May 2015.

Artwork (as seen above) was completed by Bryan Olson.
