TORMENTOR – Sign With Static Tension Recordings; New Album Due Out In July

Static Tensions Recordings is pleased to announce its latest signing, California thrashers TORMENTER. The label will be releasing the band’s previously self-released album Prophetic Deceiver, which received rave reviews upon release. The album is set to be released on July 24 2015. The band is recommended if you like Exodus, Warbringer and Destruction.

Static Tension Recordings CEO Kyle Stevens had the following to say about the signing:

About Sisters Of…

Sisters of… is a genre-defying project from St. Joseph, Missouri. Multi-instrumentalist Aaron Coker (ex-Appleseed Cast, Reggie & The Full Effect) was joined by Chris Clark and together Sisters of… was born. Tired of musical limitations, Coker’s idea of blending heavy and atmospheric sounds was realized in a track that evolved into the cornerstone of Sisters of…’s first EP, Follow Me as a Ghost. Layers of post-rock, metal, and experimental elements build evocative soundscapes that expand beyond the conventional themes of life and death.

UNBREAKABLE HATRED – Canadian Death Metal Trio Joins Unique Leader Records For Multi-Album Deal

Quebec City-based death metal trio, UNBREAKABLE HATRED, recently joined the expanding roster of extreme metal powerhouse, Unique Leader Records.

We are looking forward to working with a label that has stood the test of time while continuing to expand their diverse death metal roster. Forged in 2008 by guitarist Philippe Drouin, his drummer brother Dominic and vocalist/bassist Simon B. Lapointe, UNBREAKABLE HATRED spews forth a mutinous amalgam of old school death metal brutality, modern technical wizardry and blistering groove making for relentlessly visceral sound expedition. The band released their debut full-length, Total Chaos, in 2011 via Galy/Lacerated Enemy Records. Largely underrated but no less scalding, Sea Of Tranquility noted, “UNBREAKABLE HATRED… play a brand of technical death metal and grindcore that is as brutal as it is catchy,” further crowning it, “an all-around solid affair that shows plenty of promise.”

On This Day In METAL History – May 1st…

On May 1st, 1976 – Led Zeppelin went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, with their seventh studio album: Presence. This fine album would stay on top of this chart for two weeks. Yes, the amazing song Nobody’s Fault But Mine is featured on Presence. The album cover art was designed by the legendary (London) design group: Hipgnosis.

On this day in 2015 – The third studio album from Black Sabbath, Master Of Reality, is ranked at #73, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Nice!! This tremendous album was originally released back in 1971.

On May 1st, 2015 – Ozzy Osbourne’s second studio album, Diary Of A Madman, is ranked at #62 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa and yeah! Diary Of A Madman was originally released back in 1981. Sadly, this would be the last studio album that the incredible Randy Rhoades would play guitar on. RIP, Randy Rhoades.

On this day in 2015 – The fourth studio album from Hollywood Undead, Day Of The Dead, is ranked at #177 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Day Of The Dead has spent 4 consecutive weeks on this chart, peaking at #18.

LEGENDARY METAL CHURCH SINGER MIKE HOWE RETURNS TO THE BAND!

Legendary front-man Mike Howe returns to Metal Church! In the summer of 2014 the band suddenly found themselves in need of a new singer. As fate would have it, Kurdt was already in talks with Mike for another project that he was working on with Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler, so he decided to ask Mike to rejoin Metal Church. Mike agreed, but true to form, didn’t want to make it official until he knew for sure that the integrity of the new material was there.

In Mike’s own words: ” I didn’t want to come back to Metal Church just for nostalgia, it had to be for the right reasons, it had to be the best stuff we’ve ever written together or it just wouldn’t be worth it to anyone, especially the fans.” Soon after, Kurdt and Mike began exchanging ideas and writing new material with the band. The end result sounds like “Classic Mike Howe era Metal Church, it’s both heavy and melodic” says guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof and further states “Mike sounds the same as he did 20 years ago, this is going to be truly epic!!” Drummer Jeff Plate comments, “Mike Howe is the ONLY singer for Metal Church. He has a reputation of complete honor and respect. We can now take Metal Church to the next level!”

Mike Howe originally joined Metal Church in the late 80’s and released 3 albums with the band: “The Human Factor”, “Blessing In Disguise” and “Hanging in the Balance”. Mike was also the face of popular music videos “Date With Poverty” and “Badlands” that aired during MTV’s heyday.

The band is currently in the process of working on their new album, which will be released later this year via Rat Pak Records. Metal Church is: Mike Howe (Vocals), Kurdt Vanderhoof (Guitars) Jeff Plate (Drums), Steve Unger (Bass) and Rick VanZandt (Guitars).

GOATSNAKE – One-Off Pioneertown Show And “Black Age Blues” Album Listening Party In Los Angeles Approaching This Weekend

With GOATSNAKE‘s newest LP in a decade-and-a-half, Black Age Blues, nearing its unveiling in early June, this weekend the band has several special Southern California pre-release actions planned. First up, this Saturday, May 2nd the band will venture out to secluded Pioneertown for a one-off show at Pappy and Harriet’s. The next day, Sunday, May 3rd, sees the band hosting a public record listening party in Los Angeles where members of GOATSNAKE will be in attendance and fans can hear the entire album a full month before its release.

Interviews with GOATSNAKE at the listening party are welcomed, as are phone interviews with the band in advance of the upcoming release of Black Age Blues.

Following this weekend’s actions, the band also has a record release show in Los Angeles on May 20th, followed by their first performance at Maryland Deathfest just days later. That same week they head to Europe for a week-long tour kicking off with a set at Temples Festival.

Preorders for Black Age Blues will go live at the new GOATSNAKE store this coming Monday, May 4th alongside the release of the LP’s next single and more. In addition to the physical preorders, iTunes will have the album available for preorder offering the tracks “Black Age Blues” and “Elevated Man” for instant download, and also available to purchase individually the following day.

The maiden single from Black Age Blues, “Elevated Man,” was recently premiered at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; the vocals of Pete Stahl (Scream) vocals have never sounded so powerful, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers (The Obsessed) on drums and Scott Renner on bass is the driving force on each track, and the riffs of guitarist Greg Anderson (SunnO))), Southern Lord Recordings) are heavier than ever before. On This Day In METAL History – April 29th… From BILL WARD To GREEN DEATH

On April 29th, 1989 – Def Leppard hits #12, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the U.S., with their hit: Rocket.

On this day in 1981 – Van Halen released their fourth album, Fair Warning. This album went on to reach #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and sell two million (plus) copies in the United States, alone.

On April 29th, 2015 – The newly released solo album, Accountable Beasts, from the legendary drummer Bill Ward (former Black Sabbath) is ranked at #15 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This is Bill Ward’s first solo album in 18 years. Whoa, man!

On this day in 2015 – Death Moines, Iowa’s GREEN DEATH is ranked at #1 on Amazon’s Death Metal Digital Sales Chart, with their newly released studio album: Manufacturing Evil. This killer album is also ranked at #17 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa!!

The King Is Blind – Recording New Album

A very successful 2014 saw East Anglian Monolithic Metal Titans The King Is Blind establish themselves as a band to watch out for with the release of their critically acclaimed first EP The Deficiencies of Man via Mordgrimm (“A searing statement of intent… deathly ferocity and doomy threat” KKKK – Kerrang!) and a series of impressive live shows including notable performances at prestigious festivals Bloodstock and HammerFest VII, where they were described as “scabrous, muscular and underpinned by monstrous grooves… distinct and vital” (Dom Lawson, Metal Hammer)

And so to 2015, the year that will see The King Is Blind ascend to the throne of UK metal with their potent brand of weighty riffs, powerful grooves and epic and dynamic compositions that blend all the best elements of scenes passed, and present with a wilful and distinctive contemporary feel.

Working once more with producer Tom Donovan, TKIB are currently ensconced in Tom Donovan Studios in rural Essex recording their debut full-length, an album described as “an involved and dark concept album”. BENEATH OBLIVION – Ohio Volume Abusers Prepare For US Live Takeover; Band To Issue Limited Tour-Only Cassette

Long-running Ohio volume abusers, BENEATH OBLIVION, will cut the masses down with their amp-driven depression next month on a near three-week live takeover. Set to commence on May 4th in Cincinnati, the band will crumble the stages of nineteen cities along the Eastern Seaboard, with the trek drawing to a close on May 21st in Richmond, Virginia.

Forged in 2003, BENEATH OBLIVION is a working class funeral doom collective hailing from a dying city in the Ohio River Valley. Fusing traditional doom elements with extreme metal and punk, BENEATH OBLIVION‘s sound conjurings are cold, dismal, and introverted. In addition to a variety of new releases in the works — including a split seven-inch with St. Louis sludge trio, Fister and a ten-inch split with Before The Eyewall as well as plans to record a new full-length with Billy Anderson in the Fall — the band recently recorded two brand new hymns. Set for release in cassette format, the as-yet-untitled tracks will be limited to fifty copies and available throughout the tour.

Nihilistic Black Metallers THE NEGATION Release Album Teaser Video

Metal Underground has partnered with Kaotoxin for the premiere of a teaser video for Memento Mori, the upcoming album from nihilistic Black Metal group THE NEGATION. Check it out at this location.

The sophomore album will be released by Kaotoxin as a 500-copy limited edition deluxe three-panel DigiSleeve CD first press (followed by crystal / jewel box reprint) with 20-page booklet, as well as digitally, on July 7 in North America (July 10 for the rest of the world).

Produced at the Hybreed Studio (Temple of Baal, Glorior Belli) and with artwork by Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Watain), Memento Mori features ten tracks of powerful, heavy, intense and extremely dark Black Metal. But don’t expect straightforward Satan-praise here: there’s far more than meets the eye with THE NEGATION. Their lyrical conceptual is a call to resistance against the so-called élite who are making this world a living Hell. It’s about a stand for liberty, free speech, and free will! This August, the maiden installment of a brand new metal fest will take over Hamden, Connecticut, dubbed DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL. Born out of a desire to bring together some of the best touring acts in the world with quality local and regional metal acts, DEATH TO FALSE METAL FESTIVAL hopes to create what we hope will become one of the premiere metal festivals in the US.

Sponsored by Metal Insider and Earsplit PR, the first DEATH TO FALSE METAL gathering is set to take place on Friday, August 14th and Saturday the 15th at The Outer Space & Ballroom in Hamden, just outside of New Haven, Connecticut. MONSTERWORKS – Tracking New Album At Rockfield Studios In Wales

Hot off the heels of the recently released The Existential Codex, London’s MONSTERWORKS hit the studio this week to record the follow-up. The band is tracking at Rockfield Studios in Wales. Guitarist/vocalist Jon offered this studio update:

“Here we are in Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire. This is exciting for the band and me personally because some of the greatest acts in rock and metal have recorded here, like my all-time favourite album, Judas Priest’s Sad Wings of Destiny; not to mention Queen (various parts off Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera) and Black Sabbath with Dio (including swan song The Devil You Know). More recently Opeth recorded Pale Communion here which is hailed as a sonic masterpiece ….and although we can’t quite afford their full production team, we’ll do our best to come up with a dynamic album that sounds amazing by channelling some of the Rockfield magic!

It is day three and all drums, bass and half the rhythm guitars are down. Vocals will be later today and tomorrow…where I will stand in the same room as Halford when he belted out ‘The Ripper’ nearly 40 years ago. Thanks to our engineer Tim Lewis for a really smooth ride so far.”

The Existential Codex was released February 27th, on Eat Lead & Die Music. The six-track digital version is available as a free download . The 73-minute CD comes with bonus tracks, as well as Blu-Ray of 5.1 Surround and HD stereo mixes on the UK group’s Bandcamp page.

Cave Of Swimmers Talk About New Album ‘Reflection’

With the release of Reflection drawing near, it could appear quite apt that the Miami based duo talk about their forthcoming album in more detail. Originally from Venezuela, vocalist and multi instrumentalist G.E. Perez and drummer/percussionist Toro explain the recording process, lyrical content and influences.

Recorded at Weeks Recording Studio in Coral Gables and Crossbridge Studio in Pinecrest, Florida, all the music for Reflection was tracked in a mere 4 days!

“We rehearsed a lot prior to entering the studio to record”, G.E. Perez begins. “So when we finally went into it, we were very focused, rehearsed, tight… we recorded basic tracks (drums, rhythm guitars) in only 2 days. We took 2 more days to do solos and vocals. So the whole album was recorded in only 4 days.”

Speaking about the writing process in terms of anything being pre-empted or whether the album was written more organically G.E. Perez states that “there are spaces for improvisation in our music… the mid section of ‘The Skull’ is a great example… ‘Reflection’, the instrumental, has some improvisation in it as well… Especially from Toro’s part. He played his ass off on this record… In any case, for the most part, we rehearsed and composed in our practice room.” Toro adding that the way they write is very organic. “We get together in a small room and just start playing. Whatever comes out… Then we start following the train of thought into wherever the music takes us.”

G.E. Perez goes on to talk about the lyrics: “For me particularly, it was very cathartic to write about how my father neglected my family when I was very young… He just disappeared from the face of the earth. Going from that premise, I thought it’d be cool to draw a parallel with certain bible stories, even though I’m not particularly religious. However, if you want to interpret it that way, like we’re singing about ‘El Diablo’ and stuff, I guess that’s cool too.”

On influences G.E. Perez says: “As individuals, it may sound clichéd, but our influences are certainly very eclectic. Toro plays in jazz groups, I play Flamenco guitar… I also have a whole new appreciation for the piano. I love Jaco and Wes too. Having said that, when we come together in a room, what comes out is what we listened to when we were in school, which is rock n’ roll. We also love 80’s and early 90’s merengue. As far as bands; everything… all the usual suspects, from AC/DC to ZZ Top.”

Toro adds: “We obviously listen to a lot of different types of music. The fact we grew up in South America sets us apart in a good way because we were exposed to Latin music. Right about when G and I started playing rock and metal we also played salsa in a school ensemble. We were only 16 and we got to play all over town. As we grew musically we started exploring other instruments and jazz, classical, American folk music… You name it. When we get together in a room our most primal instinct is to play heavy music, however, we can’t deny our mixed background of eclectic influences.”

Heavy Metal, 70’s Hard Rock, Doom, Stoner, Sludge… Miami duo Cave Of Swimmers are a band that well and truly whet aural senses. Seamlessly weaving an expanse of styles Cave Of Swimmers ARE a band like no other, and reactions from the media and fans alike to their self-titled 2013 debut is testament to that.

Packing the van and hitting the dusty trail, Cave Of Swimmers furthered their name even more throughout 2014, earning them a reputation for a band that’s real with a live show like no other, out of control and full of raw energy.

Following numerous bouts on the road in support of the record, the band headed back to Florida and recorded a brand new album, Reflection, which see’s the light of day on 04th May 2015.
