Marquee Records Set To Reissue Suicide Watch ‘Global Warning’

Some people are born to rock; a few are born to thrash and Suicide Watch definitely belongs to the latter!

Late 2003 saw four guys; enthusiastic veterans of the thrash, hardcore and crossover scenes get together in the back alleys of Cheltenham England to form Suicide Watch, a band committed to relentless musical mayhem. The debut album, Global Warning, was a perfect demonstration highlighting the band’s ability to distill their collective knowledge of the genre resulting in one of the most potent thrash core releases outside of the Bay Area. The album was picked up and released in 2005 via legendary Belgian metal label Mausoleum Records.

Having signed to Irish label, Slaney Records, in 2010 for the release of their third studio record The Culling of Humanity, the label would go on to release The Alienation Zone EP in 2014 and live album This Cursed Earth in March 2015. Marquee Records, (a sister label of Slaney Records), has now announced that they will breathe new life into the debut Suicide Watch record, re-issuing Global Warning on 22nd June 2015.

The long and short of it is, these four guys know each other’s playing styles back to front, and inside out; the chemistry within Suicide Watch is second to none. They genuinely live and breathe the music they play and in fact, the thirteen songs on Global Warning were written over the course of just twelve rehearsals, and recorded, mixed and mastered (live onto analogue tape with none of the digital trickery so often employed by modern thrash bands) in only four days at Whitehouse Studios.

As well as a devastating sonic attack, Suicide Watch pride themselves on positive, sincere lyrics; they are four compassionate, caring individuals that have something of genuine value to impart to the listener. That’s why you won’t find any songs about Satan and ‘bangin’ the head on Global Warning. The world is going to hell at a rate of knots, there’s more important issues at stake right now than who is more metal than whom, and consequently the band’s lyrical thrust is steeped in the grim reality of modern life.

But whether you buy into the band’s politically charged agenda or not, there’s no denying that this is a righteous thrash metal album in the vein of such greats as Vio-lence, Testament, Kreator, Dark Angel, Exodus, Slayer and Anthrax. Even the striking cover art, by the legendary Ed Repka (Megadeth, Evil Dead, Nuclear Assault, Biohazard), is reminiscent of that golden age of extreme metal of the mid to late eighties.

EYEHATEGOD – To Kick Off Staggering Backward Summer European Tour; Band Takes Home Big Easy Award

EYEHATEGOD will kick off another European leg of their Staggering Backward live takeover. Slated to commence tomorrow, June 6th, 2015, the band will deafen ears through nearly two-dozen venues and thirteen countries beginning in Siegen, Germany at Freak Valley Festival 2015 alongside Earthless, Electric Moon and many more.

The tour also includes a stop at Hellfest in Clisson, France with Superjoint, Saint Vitus, Life Of Agony, Weedeater etc. as well as In Flammen Open Air in Torgau, Germany with Bömbers, Vader, Darkened Nocturn Slaugthercult, Terrorizer LA and others.

The latest stretch of live demolitions follow EYEHATEGOD‘s US mini tour last month which included a punishing performance at Psycho California and the band’s recent Big Easy Entertainment Award win in the category of Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.

On June 5th, 1976 – Heart had their hit single, Crazy On You, ranked at #35, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on Heart’s debut studio album from 1976: Dreamboat Annie. Long live Heart!

On June 5th, 1992 – Aerosmith had their hit single, Livin’ On The Edge, ranked at #18, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Holy wow! This song is featured on Aerosmith’s eleventh studio album from 1993: Get A Grip. Shown above is the limited and numbered picture disc for this song.

On June 5th, 1992 – The fabulous IRON MAIDEN kicked off their tour in support of their ninth studio album: Fear of the Dark. This tour began in Reykjavik, Iceland at this venue: Laugardalshöll. Whoa, man! IRON MAIDEN forever!

On June 5th, 1993 – The iconic KISS debuted at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, with their third live album: Alive III. On June 5th, 1952, Nicko McBrain was born in England! Happy Birthday, Nicko McBrain! Hell and yeah! Nicko McBrain is famously known as being the long-time drummer for the super legendary IRON MAIDEN. Nicko McBrain is also a former drummer for Pat Travers.

Seattle, WA thrashers FALLEN ANGELS return in 2015 with their third studio release ‘World In Decay’ produced by Grammy award-winning metal producer/engineer Michael Rosen (Forbidden, Testament, Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Tesla, Vicious Rumors). The album is set to be released on August 4, 2015 via their indie label Cyberdyne Records to follow 2010’s ‘Engines of Oppression’ and their 2008 debut ‘Rise From Ashes’ – released on Metal On Metal Records. On This Day In METAL History – June 4th… From SWEET To NEKROGOBLIKON

On June 4th, 1977 – The legendary Sweet hits #151 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, in the United States, with their fifth studio album: Off the Record. Man, that is some fine album artwork! Plus, album covers weren’t created with the help of computer design programs back then either; that is all done by hand with the use of an air brush! Old school! Long live the legacy of SWEET!

On June 4th, 1988 – The mighty SCORPIONS had their tenth studio album, Savage Amusement, ranked at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. This would be the last top ten album for the SCORPIONS. I love this SCORPIONS album!

My favorite songs on Savage Amusement are: Don’t Stop At The Top and Rhythm Of Love. It doesn’t matter if the SCORPIONS no longer hit the top ten in album sales; this incredible band still kicks absolute and ultra potent Metal ass to this very day! Metal Be Thy Name!

On June 4th, 1990 – MTV debuts Totally Pauly, a comedy video show starring comedian Pauly Shore. Holy moly!

On June 4th, 2015 – The new studio album from Nekrogoblikon, Heavy Meta, is ranked at #16, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. I highly recommend this album; this is Goblin Metal that I cannot get enough of! Whoa and hell yes!

On June 4th, 2015 – The iconic KISS are to perform at Arena Leipzig, in Leipzig, Germany. Whoa, man! Lucky Leipzig.

Lynyrd Skynyrd To Release 2 CD/DVD Live Set “One More For The Fans” On July 24th, Feat. Star-Studded Guests – Concert To Air On AXS TV July 19

On one special night last November, an extraordinary collection of artists came together at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA to perform and celebrate the songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd, one of the most influential bands of our time. This unique concert event centered around performances by Lynyrd Skynyrd, including a special rendition of “Travelin’ Man” with Johnny Van Zant singing along with an archival video of his late brother, Ronnie performing, as well as a rousing rendition of “Sweet Home Alabama” with Skynyrd inviting the entire star-studded line-up up on stage to perform alongside them.

The show will be available July 24, 2015 as a two CD/DVD set titled Lynyrd Skynyrd – One More For The Fans on Loud & Proud Records in partnership with Blackbird Presents. The band will also be hitting the road this spring and summer (tour dates below) and will return to the CMT Crossroads stage for a taping with Brantley Gilbert.

On June 3rd, 1970 – Deep Purple released their fourth studio album: Deep Purple In Rock aka In Rock. This was Deep Purple’s first album to feature the classic Mark II lineup of vocalist Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice and Roger Glover on bass.

On June 3rd, 2013 – White Wizzard released their third full-length studio album in Europe: The Devil’s Cut. The duo guitar wizardry of Will Wallner and Jake Dreyer are prominently featured on this album. Hell and yeah, so buy this album!

The Wolf Council – Released On Vinyl via Static Tension Recordings

Static Tension Recordings are proud to announce that the vinyl version of The Wolf Council’s self-titled album is now available for purchase. The critically acclaimed album was previously released on CD and digital formats and has now been released in beautiful vinyl due to the demand by fans.

The album is limited to 500 copies: 100 clear, 150 red and 250 black. This is the last time the label will produce a clear edition vinyl, so that version is expected to sell out quickly. Fans who do not appreciate vinyl can still purchase the album on CD or digitally.

LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE “Better Than Maroon 5” EP Releasing This Fall, via HighVolMusic

LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE the Christian influenced melodic rock project with a 20 year history has signed with the independent label HighVolMusic for their next release titled ‘Better Than Maroon 5’.

LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE has been turning out some of the most-talked-about records in the melodic rock market. LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE’s last all-star album, ‘The Cigar Chronicles’, was their best yet. It featured 26 songs and over 70 guest musicians.

The upcoming release ‘Better Than Maroon 5’ is the second album since LNJ transformed from a project to full-fledged band. Founder Justin Murr is joined on this new record with Larry Worley formerly of Fear Not and Brent Stortzum.

In the past, LNJ’s projects have become a who’s who in rock music, featuring many artists in Rock N’ Roll. This next chapter will add another dimension to the already solidified legacy of LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE giving the rock world another world-class release.

‘Better Than Maroon 5’ is slated for release in the Fall of 2015.

RENOWNED BASS PLAYER – STU HAMM – ANNOUNCES EAST COAST TOUR DATES

Having stunned audiences across the world with his innovative playing, STU HAMM has made a name as the go-to bass player for the world’s great musicians. Time spent playing with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani has cemented his place among the greats and gave HAMM the platform to display his pioneering bass techniques to adoring crowds worldwide. Now, promoting the release of his newest solo album, The Book Of Lies, HAMM takes to the road with new music and will also debut his petite suite for solo bass.

The breadth of HAMM’s range is legendary and is what is at the heart of The Book Of Lies. The title track introduces a fine style, complete with a subtle blues bass-line, later evolving into a funk jam with horns and guitar. “Back To Shabalalla” owes a debt to the loping, infectious rhythms of Afrobeat, while “Etude” is a classical piece of the type that made HAMM famous. The amazing final piece, a seven-minute epic titled “L.S.D.” ranges from a Beatles homage to a fully-leaded bass shredfest.

A gut rumbling mix of new and old hits, mixed with HAMM’s trademark humor, make for a unique show like no other. The Tour will begin on July 6 in Largo, FL and wind its way up the east coast to a grand finish at The Iridium in New York on July 16th. Joining Stu in The Stu Hamm Band are Alex Skolnick (Testament) on guitar and Joel Taylor (Allan Holdsworth, Al DiMeola) on drums.

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN Bringing Shred Sled To X GAMES

Texas shredders IMMORTAL GUARDIAN will be out on their infamous Shred Sled during the X Games this Friday, June 5, at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. IMMORTAL GUARDIAN’s Shred Sled comes one day ahead of METALLICA’s June 6 X Games performance.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Shred Sled, it’s a mobile heavy metal spectacle on wheels that has made appearances at festivals such as SXSW, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and River City Rockfest, receiving press from SPIN Magazine and multiple music publications.

Immortal Guardian has been making a name for themselves as an up and coming independent metal act with a Fender sponsorship, Brazilian Tour, and an album mixed by the producer of Judas Priest already under their belt. The band is highlighted by its members astounding virtuosity starting first with founding member Gabriel Guardian, sponsored by Fender Guitars at the young age of 22 and known for his insane ability to shred on guitar AND keyboard at the same time. Next is Brazilian born vocal siren Carlos Zema who has been named one of the top 10 metal vocalist in Brazil by several media outlets in 2007. The rhythm section is filled out by the dynamic duo of Cody Gilliland, one of the most technical speed/progressive drummers emerging onto the scene, and master of the five-string fretless bass, Thad Stevens.

This song is featured on DLR’s 1985 studio EP: Crazy From The Heat. This EP has sold one million (plus) copies. Zowie!

On June 1st, 1991 – Queensrÿche’s hit power ballad, Silent Lucidity, was ranked at #9, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on Queensrÿche’s fourth studio album from 1990: Empire.

On June 1st, 1991 – Firehouse had their hit single, Don’t Treat Me Bad, ranked at #19, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on the debut and self-titled album from Firehouse, released back in 1990. Whoa!

On June 1st, 2015 – SLIPKNOT’s fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, is #1 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This album was released in Autumn of 2014.

Wanna See My DIO “Anthology” CD? It’s Really Cool…

That’s it above, my DIO Anthology CD! How cool is that? This CD was part of a bundle of used CD’s that I bought for $12 (U.S.), a few months ago. It was a good deal! I was quite happy to finally find this DIO CD, at a local pop culture store I frequent. It doesn’t matter if I already have every song on this Anthology CD; collecting any DIO CD is my Metal goal!

There are 14 songs on Anthology and I commend the person(s) that selected them for this issue; however, I would have selected Rock ‘n’ Roll Children in place of Shoot Shoot. Hungry For Heaven is another DIO classic that is missing on Anthology; still this is a grand compilation of DIO songs.

It’s always difficult choosing my favorite DIO song of all-time. I always go with Holy Diver, Rainbow In The Dark, The Last In Line and Time To Burn being my core picks. Then again, this is Ronnie James Dio and his songs rule! Forgive me for being bias, I cannot control myself. As I see it, there will never be such powerful Metal songs written like this ever again. Ronnie James Dio and the gifted musicians he had surrounded himself with came together to create timeless Metal magic, in my Metal opinion.

DIO Anthology was released back in 1997, via (The) Connoisseur Collection. If you don’t own any DIO CDs, pick up Anthology for this is as good as it gets! This CD sells online in used condition for under $5 (U.S.), just about everywhere I’ve looked. Metal Be Thy Name! – Stone

On This Day In METAL History – May 31st… From BAD COMPANY To ARMORED SAINT

On May 31st, 1975 – The hit single from Bad Company, Good Lovin’ Gone Bad, is ranked at #36, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the United States. Right on! This song is featured on the second studio album from Bad Company, released in 1975: Straight Shooter.

On May 31st, 1976 – The Who entered the Guinness Book of World Records for (at that time) performing the loudest concert in history. This Rock historic concert took place at England’s Charlton Athletic’s Ground. The official readings were: 76,000 watts at 120 decibels from 50 meters away. This enormous record would lasted for close to a decade. Holy moly! Holy moly again!

On May 31st, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Win Hands Down, from the awesome ARMORED SAINT is ranked at #54, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Win Hands Down releases on June 2nd, 2015, via Metal Blade Records. Hell, whoa and yeah!

On May 31st, 2015 – The forthcoming studio album, Disgusting, from Columbus Ohio’s Beartooth is ranked at #9, on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. Whoa. This album releases on June 10th, 2015, via Red Bull Records. Long live Beartooth and Ohio!

OMMADON – UK Drone/Doom Duo To Undrape “Empathy For The Wicked” Via Golden Mantra This July

Following the crushing doom of their critically adored, 2014 double LP, V, which earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014, UK drone/doom duo, OMMADON, continues their perpetual quest to achieve sonic annihilation of the self through unadulterated heaviness with Empathy For The Wicked. Boasting just one earth-rupturing track broken into two parts, Empathy For The Wicked was recorded live, mixed by OMMADON and mastered by recording legend, Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), who gave it the final crushing touches it deserves.

Where OMMADON‘s previous scores were all recorded in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by forest, Empathy For The Wicked marks their first release to be recorded on an industrial estate in urban Northumberland surrounded by the dregs of humanity. The first track from Empathy For The Wicked was originally recorded for the cassette split with Horse Latitudes and Coltsblood. During that session, OMMADON decided to continue recording through the night and drone out the riff which became the second side to Empathy For The Wicked.

Empathy For The Wicked will be released on 12″ vinyl via Golden Mantra on July 15th, 2015 with preorders available at: www.goldenmantra.co.uk. Teasers to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

SOS – NYC-Based Heavy Groove Maniacs Celebrate Twenty Year Anniversary In 2015; New City-Wide Live Assault Confirmed

New York City’s heavy-hitting groove quartet SOS is celebrating twenty raging years together as a band in 2015, and is currently booking shows across the city throughout June in celebration of crushing right through their two decade mark.

Following the release of their fifth full-length, Strength And Conditioning, SOS performed on the street at the massive NYC Marathon for the fifteenth consecutive year, amidst a widespread rash of other performances. Continuing the live mayhem, the band will play on their home turf on Friday, June 5th with Warrior Soul and a host of other support acts, followed by a free, all-ages, outdoor, matinee show at Tompkins Square Park on June 13th with an assortment of friend acts. June 21st will see SOS hammering Astoria Skate Park in Queens with another free, all-ages, outdoor, matinee show.
