DRAWERS And NOLENTIA Announce Cuban Tour

Kaotoxin Records is proud to announce that two of its bands, DRAWERS and NOLENTIA, will tour Cuba in February. Part of the ongoing Brutal Fest bi-annual tour series, the tour will bring five international bands (also including LA HORE, SICKRET and SUPERBUTT) to Cuba in February, where they’ll play a series of gigs around the country along with local acts (Combat Noise, Darkness Fall, Blinder, Trendkill, Claim…). WOLVHAMMER – Confirms Headlining Dates Surrounding U.S. With 1349, Origin And Abysmal Dawn

Midwestern cult, WOLVHAMMER, has confirmed several headlining dates surrounding their upcoming US tour supporting 1349, Origin and Abysmal Dawn.

Following their two-pronged Desanctifying North America 2014 Tour, the first with support from Relapse artists, Mortals, and second including Southern Lord ragers, Black Cobra, headlining many of the gigs, WOLVHAMMER will spend the majority of February in the opening slot of the Chaos Raids USA 2015 tour, headlined by Norwegian black metal legion, 1349, with additional support from Kansas’ tech death metal unit, Origin, and California death outfit, Abysmal Dawn.

The recently expanded nineteen-date run will begin February 8th in Tampa, Florida, and run through the 26th in Savannah, Georgia. Yet WOLVHAMMER has also just locked up several headlining shows preceding and subsequent to the main run, February 5th, 6th and 7th, as well as the 27th and 28th.

WOLVHAMMER released their third full-length, Clawing Into Black Sun, in July 2014 via Profound Lore Records, with guitarist Jeff Wilson’s own Disorder Recordings handling the vinyl pressing. The record reigned in accolades from media and fans internationally, while the band took the pulverizing hymns to the road heavily the second half of the year. With nearly fifty minutes of the band’s best death rock-fueled blackened thunder yet, surging with more self-infliction, abuse, regret, and debauchery than ever, the record was recorded by Dan Jensen at Hideaway Studio in Minneapolis.

On This Day In METAL History – February 1st… From Jimi Hendrix Experience To Fit For A King

On February 1st, 1968 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience performed at the Fillmore Auditorium, in San Francisco, California, USA. Albert King along with John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers also performed on the same bill. The above concert flyer art was done by (the late) Rick Griffin.

On this day in 1975 – The fabulous Led Zeppelin performed at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Led Zeppelin were obviously touring in support of their sixth and super studio album: Physical Graffiti. Get this: ticket prices ranged from $6.50 to $8.50 (U.S. funds). Whoa!!

On February 1st, 2009 – The mighty SAXON performed at Le Bataclan in Paris, France. This was one of many stops on SAXON’s Battalions Of Steel World Tour 2009. SAXON had released their 18th studio album, Into The Labyrinth, in January of 2009.

On this day in 2011 – Wisconsin’s Thrash Metal warriors LAZARUS A.D. released their second studio album, Black Rivers Flow, via Metal Blade Records.

On February 1st, 2013 – Sweden’s ENFORCER released their studio album Death By Fire, via Nuclear Blast. This album burns! Whoa.

On this day in 2013 – Germany’s Blind Guardian released their box set, A Traveler’s Guide To Space And Time, in the countries of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The release date for the rest of the world was on February 4th. What a beautiful looking box set and I do not own it. That sucks.

On February 1st, 2015 – Fit For A King is to perform at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, Michigan, USA. This Christian Metalcore band from Texas are supporting August Burns Red on The Frozen Flame Tour. Fit For A King’s new studio album, Slave To Nothing, was released back on December 9th; it’s a steamroller of a very heavy Metalcore listen, with both clean and extreme vocals and I absolutely dig it!

I truly enjoyed trying to stay on top of many, many Hard Rock releases that 2014 had to offer. From the dozens or more Hard Rock albums I listened to this past year, this Top 10 represents the titles that psyched me out the most; these are my choice albums that excel from start to finish.

Music creates vibrations that are unique, mystical and timeless. Music is a universal communication that brings us all together, from all walks of life, unlike anything else. Hopefully you’ll appreciate one or many from my personal Top 10 list. Metal be thy name.

Michael Sweet has, for me, delivered what I consider to be one of the most inspiring Hard Rock albums I’ve ever listened to. If last year’s Stryper album, No More Hell To Pay, wasn’t enough to lift me into the Milky Way of hope and positive reinforcement, then Michael Sweet’s new solo album has put triple asterisks on my will to overcome my personal fears and mistakes. I’m Not Your Suicide is a powerful and sincere album from a musician, songwriter, lyricist and singer that I believe to be an American music treasure.

On This Day In METAL History – January 31st…

On January 31st, 1969 – The astounding Led Zeppelin performed at the Fillmore East in New York City, New York. The great Iron Butterfly and The Move also performed on this same evening.

On this day in 1999 – The iconic KISS performed during the pre-game festivities for Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami, Florida, to an (estimated) international viewing audience of 800 million (plus) television viewers. Holy crap and whoa!! Um… I think “800 million” has to be a bit exaggerated, then again, that’s what some of the archived press states.

On January 31st, 2002 – The amazing Aerosmith performed at the Nagoya Dome in Nagoya, Japan. Aerosmith were on their Just Push Play Tour. The thirteenth studio album from Aerosmith, Just Push Play was released back in 2001. The first hit single from this album was: Jaded.

On this day in 2012 – The incredible ICED EARTH performed at the Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. This concert was a stop on ICED EARTH’s World Dystopia Tour 2011-2012. Dystopia marked the tenth album on ICED EARTH’s impressive discography and was released in October of 2011.

On January 31st, 2015 – The Wrong Side Of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1 from the fierce Five Finger Death Punch holds steady at #137, on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Released on July 30th of 2013, this kick-to-the-teeth album has spent 51 weeks on this chart and peaked at #2.

The late and super great Jeff Hanneman was born on January 31st, 1964. Happy birthday Jeff Hanneman, thank you for the timeless Metal and rest in peace.

Israeli Metal outfit FERIUM are hard at work in the studio working on their upcoming concept album, Behind the Black Eyes. Video footage from the recording sessions can be viewed at this location.

Behind The Black Eyes greatly expands the concept first introduced on FERIUM’s debut album Reflections. The connection between the two albums is evident in part by the inclusion of a new track titled “Reflections,” while the debut album contained the song “The Black Eyes.”

Behind The Black Eyes is the story of one man’s deteriorating relationship from beginning to end; from promising beginnings to the bitter end. Musically, Behind the Black Eyes raises the intensity level and deepens the impact with powerful riffs and melodic atmospheric parts, ensuring that nary a listener is left unaffected by the experience. Behind the Black Eyes is one again being produced and recorded by FERIUM guitarist Boxer at his very own Boxer Studio.

On This Day In METAL History – January 30th… From KISS To HAMMERFALL!

On January 30th, 1973 – The iconic KISS performed their first concert at the Popcorn Club, in Queens, New York, USA. KISS were paid a whopping $50 for their two sets of performance on that Rock historic evening. I wish I was there… then again, I was only seven years old then. Whoa!!

On this day in 1973 – The magnificent Led Zeppelin performed at Guildhall in Preston, UK.

On January 30th, 1987 – The mighty IRON MAIDEN performed at The Summit in Houston, Texas, USA. This concert was a stop on IRON MAIDEN’s Somewhere On Tour.

On this day in 1988 – STRYPER has their power ballad, Honestly, sitting at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Honestly is featured on STRYPER’s Grammy nominated and third studio album from 1986: To Hell With The Devil.

On January 30th, 1996 – The legendary IRON MAIDEN performed at the Maysfield Leisure Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This concert date was on IRON MAIDEN’S The X Factour.

On this day in 2004 – The powerful IRON MAIDEN performed at the Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, USA. This concert was one of many on IRON MAIDEN’s Dance Of Death Tour.

On January 30th, 2007 – The fearsome SLAYER performed at Saltair in Magna, Utah, USA. SLAYER were on their Christ Illusion tour. Ssssllllaaaayyyyerrrr!! Whoa!

On this day in 2015 – The grand HAMMERFALL are to perform at Razzmatazz 2 in Barcelona, Spain. Orden Ogan and Serious Black are the supporting bands and they kick Metal ass too.

On January 30th, 2015 – The super-duper AC/DC have their legendary studio album, Back In Black, resting at #83 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Released back in 1980, Back In Black has spent 162 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200 and once peaked at #4. Holy Metal!!

On this day in 2015 – The sensational Metallica have their 1991 studio album, Metallica aka The Black Album, occupying the #185 slot, on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Timeless Metal, it is.

On This Day In METAL History – January 29th… From Led Zeppelin To Eddie Jackson

1975 – The iconic Led Zeppelin performed at the Greensboro Coliseum, in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA.

1977 – The great Aerosmith had their hit Walk This Way sitting at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on Aerosmith’s third and stupendous studio album, from 1975: Toys In The Attic.

2002 – The tenth studio album from the super legendary King Diamond, Abigail II: The Revenge, was released via Metal Blade Records.

2015 – The sixth studio album from Nickelback, Dark Horse, has re-entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and sits at #187. Dark Horse was released back in 2008 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200. Since its release, Dark Horse has spent 152 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200. That says something about this album. Whoa.

2015 – The eighth studio album from Nickelback, No Fixed Address, holds on with its #101 ranking on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Falling from #114 the previous week, No Fixed Address has spent ten consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200. This very cool album debuted at #4, as well.

On January 29th, 1962, Eddie Jackson was born. Happy Birthday, Eddie! Whoa and hell yeah! Eddie Jackson aka EdBass is famously known as a an original member, bassist and co-songwriter for the legendary Metal troupe Queensrÿche. To date, the multi-million selling Queensrÿche have released thirteen studio albums. Long live Eddie Jackson!

UNREST – To Release ‘Grindcore’ On Unspeakable Axe Records March 24th

Grindcore will be released on Unspeakable Axe Records March 24.

If the band name doesn’t spell it out for you, the album title surely will. This is nothing but grindcore – stripped down, unpretentious, and loud. At the same time, it’s much more than that. UNREST is comprised of craftsmen from bands both familiar (WOE, TRENCHROT and those about to be (Dark Descent’s up-and-coming doom act, CRYPT SERMON).

The riff and song construction throughout this debut album is right in line from what you’d expect from a group of such capable veterans. They wear their NASUM (and by proxy, NAPALM DEATH) influence on their sleeves, but through sheer mastery of the craft elevate the material well beyond a mere tribute to old masters. Vermont’s BARISHI Release ‘Endless Howl’ EP

ABOUT BARISHI:

Barishi is making their mark in the New England metal scene and beyond. Formed in 2010 as an instrumental three-piece know as Atlatl they began writing songs influenced by fusion and progressive music. Their style quickly started getting heavier and darker while retaining some progressive influence, thus forging their own style of heavy psychedelic metal. In 2012 they found a wayward vocalist wandering the streets of Keene New Hampshire; bringing him into the fold they found that his sound melded excellently with theirs.

BEHEMOTH – To Release Official Biography Via Metal Blade Records

Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors by Łukasz Dunaj serves as the definitive BEHEMOTH biography. The book, officially blessed, or rather damned, by BEHEMOTH, serves as an in-depth look at the history of the events that materially influenced the band. As Dunaj points out in the intro, this isn’t, “Poland’s response to Motley Crüe’s biography The Dirt.” Simply put, Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors is the story of BEHEMOTH, their music, their ultimate rise to the upper echelon of metal and becoming a household name in their native homeland, Poland.

A 490-page, hardcover tome that is being released by Metal Blade Records in February, Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors includes quotes and anecdotes from current and former members that provide context and details in addition to the author’s narrative, plus interviews with Tomas Krajewski, Rob Darken, Graal, Havok, and more. GOATSNAKE – Announces European Tour; New Album Details Soon To Be Revealed

Los Angeles, California’s GOATSNAKE has announced further live dates in Europe, kicking off at the end of May with their set at Temples Festival, and taking the band through territories new to them. This news comes alongside the completion of the recording of the band’s new album, which will see release on Southern Lord this Summer.

The new GOATSNAKE album will feature the familiar faces of Greg Rogers (The Obsessed, Sonic Medusa), providing drums, Greg Anderson (Sunn O)))) taking care of the riffs, Pete Stahl (Scream, Wool, Earthlings?) on vocals, along with new bassist and Cape Fear North Carolina legend Scott Renner (Brickbat, Sourvein, Sonic Medusa).

On production duties is Nick Raskulinecz, who, since being introduced to Dave Grohl during the recording sessions of Flower of Disease, has gone on to work with seminal artists such as Rush, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Ghost and has won Grammys with The Foo Fighters. United again, he and the band are sure to serve a menacing cut of the time-honored, ultra-heavy rock they are infamous for.

While further details on the record are to come, Greg Anderson offered some advance insight: “We are beyond stoked about the new ‘Snake album. We all rose to the occasion and with the help of Nick and the state of Tennessee delivered the fucking goods. More soul, more power, more balls.”

On This Day In METAL History, January 27th – Starring: Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, Slipknot and… Pat Boone?

On January 27th, 1973 – The incredible Led Zeppelin performed at Caird Hall in Dundee, Scotland, UK. Their fifth studio album, Houses Of The Holy, would be released two months later. Whoa!

On this day in 1973 – (The) Sweet saw their hit, Blockbuster, sitting at #1 on the UK Singles Chart, where it spent five straight weeks.

On January 27th, 1990 – Mötley Crüe’s hit Kickstart My Heart sits at #27, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. The song is featured on their fifth studio album, released in 1989: Dr. Feelgood.

On this day in 1997 – Pat Boone appeared on the American Music Awards sporting (badass) leather attire and a studded collar to promote his new studio album In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy. This album featured cover songs of Hard Rock and Metal; with Jazz and Big Band music styles. No, I do not own this album and never will.

Pat Boone, alongside the legendary and much more credible Alice Cooper, presented the award for the Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Artist to Metallica. This edition of the American Music Awards featured live performances by Metallica and Mötley Crüe.

On January 27th, 2012 – The mighty MEGADETH performed at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA. MEGADETH were the headline act on their very own Gigantour 2012. The legendary Motörhead were also featured on this tour, with Volbeat and Lacuna Coil as support.

On January 27th, 2015 – Slipknot’s fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, rests at #149 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. This significant album from Slipknot has spent thirteen consecutive weeks on this chart, while debuting at #1.
