Century Media Records Founder Launches New Label: Another Century

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on August 21, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Another Century - record label logo - 2014

From Century Media Records:

Century Media Records founder, Robert Kampf, has announced the formation of a new record label, Another Century. The label will focus on hard rock and has already signed 3 bands to the roster: Los Angeles rock veterans, Rev Theory, New Zealand’s rising stars, Like A Storm, and Chicago based, The Bloodline. Kampf comments:

Twenty five years after starting Century Media the excitement to do another version of the label could not be any larger. My undying love for rock has driven the formation of this label ANOTHER CENTURY. Over the years great bands like Otherwise and In This Moment have been released on Century Media but sometimes got lost or felt ill mixed among some of the heavier CM bands. Another Century now has a clear path and mission statement: To develop and break the best bands in rock to come!!!

Otherwise is gearing up to release their sophomore album, Peace At All Costs, on September 16 and currently is having massive success with their single, Darker Side of the Moon, http://youtu.be/CHh9YSwZR0U, which is currently #29 on the US Active Rock charts. The album was produced by David Bottrill (Tool, Muse) and mixed by Jay Ruston (Steel Panther). The band is set to hit the road with Like A Storm next month and will be appearing at Sacramento’s Aftershock festival as well as Louisville’s Louder Than Life fest.

Rev Theory, formed in 2002, have sold over half a million albums and are currently wrapping up the recording for their next album. The first single, Born 2 Destroy, is making its way to radio soon. A teaser for the song as well as the single’s artwork can be seen here:

New Zealand’s Like A Storm are the rock world’s 2014 Cinderella story. The band self-released the EP, Chaos Theory: Part I and made their way over to the States touring with the likes of Sick Puppies, Shinedown, Alter Bridge and Creed as well as hit several festivals. The band sent their single, Love The Way You Hate Me, http://youtu.be/4im52LBhWnM to radio and personally called stations to play the track. The song became a hit, soaring up the charts, where it currently is sitting at number 22, making them the US’s highest charting rock band ever from New Zealand. The band will have a new full length out on Another Century on October 28th and are currently on tour now, meeting up with Otherwise next month.

The Bloodline was formed by Shaun Glass (Soil) and feature vocalist Travis Neal (Divine Heresy), guitarist Chuck Wepfer and Frankie Harchut on drums. The Bloodline is currently in the studio recording their debut album and deliver a huge fresh sound in Rock/Metal with massive hooks, soaring melodies and pummeling grooves that will ignite any listeners ears.

GWAR To Embark Upon The “GWAR Eternal Tour 2014”

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on August 20, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Gwar - Eternal Tour 2014 - promo flyer - #0011

As reported on the GWAR Facebook:

Oderus is missing. Once the Scumdogs in GWAR finally notice this (it takes them a while to notice stuff) they will set off on a journey to find their departed brother using every resource available – including recruiting an ancient Scumdog warrior. GWAR will need the help from everyone, even the lowliest Bohab, as their enemies are plotting to take advantage of the hole in GWAR’s ranks.

BalSac The Jaws of Death on The “GWAR Eternal Tour 2014” and what to expect:

“Dark clouds of war and ill omen have gathered around GWAR. In our hour of greatest peril, Oderus has left us and our enemies stand poised, ready to strike while they sense weakness. But we shall no longer cower in our Antarctic stronghold, awaiting Destiny’s final blow. This Fall GWAR sets out on the most trying quest of our career. We shall scour our leader’s favorite stomping ground, North America, leaving no city unsearched, no venue unraised, and no sheep unmolested. GWAR will venture to the depths of Hell or to the very end of Time itself, and though I fear what we may encounter out there, I know that we can never return home until we have the answer we seek: ‘Where is Oderus Urungus?’”

GWAR fans have been mourning the loss of Dave Brockie, GWAR’s founder and lead singer, since March. The “GWAR Eternal Tour 2014” gives them an opportunity to gather and share a bunch of feels as a community while experiencing the sickest band in this or any other world.

Jamison Land, Beefcake the Mighty’s personal slave and bass tech:

“Dave was our friend and anchor for as far back as anyone can remember. He’s held us together, and sometimes he drove us apart. He is our brother and we love him. Unlike a lot of prominent musicians, he was friends with all of the fans. He made GWAR fans feel special on a personal level. The fans love Dave as much as we do and ‘The GWAR Eternal Tour 2014’ is our way of getting together and sharing that love.”

The first leg of the tour will include direct support from Decapitated; the second leg will have direct support from Corrosion of Conformity. American Sharks will open all shows. The tour kicks off October 15th in Norfolk, VA and runs through December 13th in Baltimore, MD. A complete list of dates can be found below. Tickets go on sale this weekend.

Helloween - promo band pic - 2014 - #610091

After successfully concluding their world-tour in support of the 2013 output Straight Out Of Hell, the party has been concluded upon the festival summer.

Clearly no time to sit back and relax, as the pumpkin heads will be heading right for their very own MiSueno Studios, located on the isle of Tenerife to start working on the successor of Straight Out Of Hell in October. Joining the band to handle production duties will be long-term companion Charlie Bauerfeind. The new album which is set for a release in May 2015 will be the first since HELLOWEEN have inked a new deal with old label home Nuclear Blast, where they released two albums – The Dark Ride (2000) and Rabbit Don’t Come Easy (2003), both of which have been re-issued with extended bonus material in 2013.

Last but not least, HELLOWEEN would like to send out a big “Thank You” to all the Helloween Maniacs worldwide with some live impressions of the title track of the charting success Straight Out Of Hell turned out to be, landing on a sensational #4, their highest German chart entry to date, holding this position for five long weeks. Additionally they made another five Top ten entries in Europe and also cracked the US Billboard Charts.

Small Stone Records Destroyed By Floods; Fundraiser Launched

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news, weather with tags , , , , on August 19, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Small Stone Records - Flood - 2014

Last week, debilitating storms dumped flood water throughout the Detroit area, including the offices of Small Stone Records, label home of Sasquatch, Wo Fat, Greenleaf, Lord Fowl, Dixie Witch, Roadsaw and so many others. Gear and product were both destroyed and insurance is only going to go so far, so we’re coming together to help Scott Hamilton from Small Stone with some of the massive expense of cleaning up from this flood. Hamilton’s support for heavy music in the near two-decades that he’s run Small Stone has never wavered and this is a chance to help somebody who’s helped us by enriching our lives with great bands and great riffs.

A recent post by The Obelisk details, “It was painful last week to see the pictures of the Small Stone Records offices, flooded out from powerful storms that tore through the Detroit area. Still sealed label product floating through dirty water, files and CDs, the fruit of countless hours of work on the part of label owner Scott Hamilton, simply ruined. In one of the pictures, however, you can also see a floating vacuum cleaner, and that’s also important, because it reminds us that more even than being where kickass riffs come from, this is somebody’s home.

Scott is somebody whose tastes and whose efforts have helped greatly to shape the course of American heavy rock in the last decade-plus. Whether you’re a fan of Dixie Witch or roadsaw or Sasquatch or Wo Fat or anyone else on his enviable roster, chances are even if you don’t listen to those bands, someone in a band you listen to does. Small Stone has become the standard-bearer, and you can see the influence it has had not only in bands going for ‘that Small Stone sound,’ but also in labels who have come up in the last several years wanting to support the music they’re passionate about in a similar way.

But again, this is about more than music. It’s Scott’s house too, and that’s why it’s so important that this community comes together to help him out. You and I are part of a worldwide subculture. Don’t believe me? Go to a show anywhere and look around you. It’s the same every place you go, and that’s no mistake. One of our own – someone who’s directly participated in making this weird, ongoing thing to which we belong – needs our help. Frankly, that should be enough to make you want to get involved.”

Donations are being taken through the middle of next month, but since it’s a water cleanup process and there’s the ever-present threat of mold, time’s a factor.

To donate, point your browser to THIS LOCATION. Every bit helps. Thank you for your support.

KHAØS – “After The Silence” New Single And Official Music Video Are: Stone’s METAL Picks Of The Day!

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on August 18, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Khaos - promo band pic - 2014 - #30039

After their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Rising’ appeared in late 2012, Khaøs have released a brand new single entitled ‘After The Silence’. This new single from Khaøs lyrically mirrors the despair of our world today, with some of the catchiest and memorable Hard Rock that I yearn for. ‘After The Silence’ has instantly glued itself to my brain tissue. Seriously, it did. Vocalist Chandler Mogel is a star, while this entire band should take several bows and realize they have the musical skills to go very, very far with their music. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Hard Rock, 80’s Arena and Classic Rock fans should enjoy Khaøs and their sound. Metal fans that dig Joe Lynn Turner, Michael Schenker Group and Hardline are in for a treat. Take a look and listen below! Whoa!

Above music video was directed by the talented Swiss director Can Isik (Beauty of Gemina). The video was shot in a burnt down factory area in Arbon Switzerland.

KHAØS – Studio Lineup:

Chandler Mogel – vocals

Mark Rossi – guitar

Nic Angileri – bass

Trevor Franklin – drums

States the band:

“’After The Silence’ is the anthemic track that kicks off the album. It’s about finding one’s self in a war-torn world and bonding together with like-minded people in order to start a peaceful revolution. We face a lot of difficulties throughout our daily lives and in a world where that seems to be the norm, sometimes the only thing we seem to have is ourselves and what we know.”

Khaos - After The Silence - promo single cover - 2014

‘After The Silence’ was released on July 14th, 2014 and is the first single from the forthcoming full-length album ‘Risen’. The single is digitally available worldwide on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and on all other digital platforms.

ORANGE GOBLIN’s New Album Coming This October; Track Streaming At Loudwire

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on August 17, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Orange Goblin - Back From The Abyss - promo cover pic

Candlelight Records has confirmed October 7th as the North American release date for ORANGE GOBLIN’s new album, Back From The Abyss. Recorded earlier this year in London, the album reunites the band with producer Jamie Dodd. It was mastered at Turan Audio in late July. Back From The Abyss will be available for preorder via iTunes and Amazon beginning August 26th. Fans can begin to preorder the CD today via Candlelight’s official webstore and Bandcamp page.

Loudwire.com is celebrating the announcement with an exclusive North American stream of the album’s first single, The Devil’s Whip. Vocalist Ben Ward says: “This song is a real old-school banger stuffed full of riffs, sleaze, filth, and speed… just like the best metal should be! It’s Motörhead-style, outlaw-biker rock in all its glory, destined to get heads banging, fists pumping, drinks flowing and asses shaking. If you don’t find yourself breaking the speed limit to this song, desperate to find the roughest bar in town, start a fight and spending the night in a cell, then you are quite clearly already dead. Let’s ride, let loose, let’s rip… that’s right, you can’t escape ‘The Devil’s Whip.'”

Listen now HERE.

Back From The Abyss follows the band’s most successful release, 2012’s A Eulogy For The Damned, and the recent reissue of their 2007 album Healing Through Fire. Featuring twelve new songs, it delivers the quartets now internationally respected Heavy Metal. Decibel Magazine calls the band’s sound, “maximum riffage and turbo doom.” Blabbermouth dubs them, “a big burly bag of rock goodness.” Rocking hard as fans have come to expect, Back From The Abyss shows not only the band’s tried-and-true blues and doom but the high caliber of their musicianship.

ORANGE GOBLIN will kick off the Autumn with a European tour alongside Doom legends St. Vitus. Set to begin in France on October 9th, the tour will work its way through thirteen countries before concluding in Germany on November 14th. On the tour’s announcement Ward said: “We are extremely excited to be going on tour with our good friends and long-time heroes St. Vitus. Vitus are one of the bands that inspired us to form ORANGE GOBLIN all those years ago and to be able to promote our new album and celebrate their thirty-fifth anniversary at the same time just blows my mind.”

Orange Goblin - Back From The Abyss - promo cover pic

American dates in support of Back From The Abyss are anticipated to start early in the new year. Details to be announced shortly.

Together since 1995, ORANGE GOBLIN has released seven full-length studio albums. A Eulogy For The Damned was the band’s first for Candlelight Records and closed a five year recording hiatus. The album was supported with the most live dates by the band in their history; touring that saw the band on North America soil first alongside Clutch then on a full-scale headline tour that found them on thirty-eightstages across the US and Canada. Two videos were filmed and released for the album, including Red Tide Rising and the special Scion A/V video for Acid Trials.

2. Ubermensch
3. The Devil’s Whip
4. Demon Blues
5. Heavy Lies The Crown
6. Into the Arms of Morpheus
7. Mythical Knives
8. Bloodzilla
9. The Abyss

Get This Right Records confirms the September release of the new self-titled EP from Wilmington, North Carolina-based Hardcore outfit, SOCIETY SUCKER.

Delivering their own slamming brand of NYHC-influenced East Coast hardcore, SOCIETY SUCKER takes lessons from classic bands like Subzero, Next Step Up and Merauder, delivered in a brutal delivery akin to contemporary powerhouses Trapped Under Ice, Incendiary and Suburban Scum. Having quickly surged to the forefront of the quickly growing North Carolina hardcore scene since forming in the Summer of 2013, the band has performed heavily regionally along the East Coast with an extensive list of local and international touring acts.

Following their debut demo dropped last year, the Summer of 2014 will bring forth the first official release from SOCIETY SUCKER, having recently hooked up with Get This Right Records for the unleashing of the self-titled EP. With five enraged tracks loaded with more brutal hooks than a fleet of whalers, Society Sucker was recorded in February of this year at The Skylight Studio with Vince Ratti and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and bears bold cover art by Steven Kulesza.

SOCIETY SUCKER is a band committed to keeping hardcore hard. This is the proof.

Get This Right Records will release Society Sucker digitally and on 7″ vinyl on September 16th. Stand by for music from the EP and more to be leaked in the coming days.

Society Sucker – Track Listing:

Beginning October 6th, the Completely Meaningless Party Tour will blaze Anaheim, Ventura, Las Vegas, Flagstaff and Tempe before the caravan smolders out with a final show in their hometown on October 11th. The band’s hometown brethren in Evasion will be joining the melee as support for LETHAL DOSAGE on all dates.

____________________________________________

LETHAL DOSAGE released their second full-length album, Consume, in February via local cohorts, Battleground Records. Having harnessed the band’s massive live sound at Arcane Digital Studio, engineered by Ryan Butler and then finalized at Sonorous Mastering, Consume rages with over fifty caustic minutes of groove-heavy metal with elements of brutal hardcore infusing elements of Lamb Of God, Chimaira, Pantera, and Hatebreed, yet consumed with the band’s own self-destructive, caustic, desert-baked contamination. Consume is available in an economical, eco-friendly four-panel digipak exclusively at Earsplit Distro, and digitally via Bandcamp.

Critical Praise:

“…an exuberant, very welcome surprise… the sound on this album is positively monstrous.” – Chronicles Of Chaos

“…a modern and highly brutal form of death-influenced and groove-laden metal in the vein of Chimaira or Lamb Of God.” – Puregrainaudio

“Consume is filled with ominous riffs and ample groove, with a breakdown here and there. The bile-filled vocals are balanced with bouncy grooves…” – About.com

BLOODSHOT DAWN – Announce New Album Details

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on August 13, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Bloodshot Dawn - promo band pic - 2014 - #9084

Before closing their main stage show at Bloodstock Festival last weekend, unsigned UK melodic extreme metallers Bloodshot Dawn made a very special announcement. Frontman Josh McMorran told an excited crowd that their new album, entitled ‘Demons’ would be released in the UK on 26th October (Rest of World TBA).

‘Demons’ is the second Bloodshot Dawn album and was funded by fans in a Kickstarter campaign which was achieved in just 4 days, testament to the band’s loyal following.

‘Demons’ is also the first recording with their new drummer Janne Jaloma (also of Gothenburg death metal outfit Deals Death). The album features 8 tracks of awe inspiring melodic extreme metal spanning 43 minutes and includes guest musicians such as Sven De Caluwé (Aborted, System Divide), Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun), Andy James (ex-Sacred Mother Tongue) and Chris Amott (Armageddon, ex-Arch Enemy).

Speaking of ‘Demons’ in relation to their self-titled debut, which was released in 2012, Josh comments: “From a musical perspective it has been a completely natural progression. We have not become more melodic or more brutal but rather we’ve enhanced all aspects of the sound we had built up on the first album! This album is a huge step up in technical ability and song writing prowess without changing the music enough to alienate our current fans!”

“The title ‘Demons’, which is also the name of one of the tracks, perfectly represents the lyrical content within the album. It also ties in with the amazing new artwork. The song’s lyrical content is about demons on both a personal and a wider social scale, explaining our views on modern society and the struggles within the mind. The album is all about beating your demons and making something of the time you have on the earth whilst battling the ever lasting struggles and trials that come with being human.”

The artwork, which can be seen above, was masterminded by Swedish artist Par Olofoson who is famed for his work with bands such as Immolation, Onslaught, Exodus, Pathology, The Faceless and more as well as also having also worked on the Bloodshot Dawn self-titled debut album.

Hull Legend Of The Swamp Goat - promo cover pic - 2014 - #3349

HULL – Brooklyn’s Metal ambassadors known across the planet as HULL released a 7″ vinyl single (with B-Side etching and digital download card) back on February 14th of this year. The single is titled: Legend Of The Swamp Goat. This 7″ single released in limited colors, with sea-foam being an European tour exclusive. I kept playing this mighty Metal song over and over last night and came to realize: HULL’s The Legend Of The Swamp Goat shall be Stone’s Metal Pick Of The Day! Whoa.

Hull - Legend Of The Swamp Goat - colored vinyl - promo pic - 2014

Monstrous riffs, chunky bass, formidable drumming, powerful street-cred vocals, sludgy and doomy across this entire song, with an anthemic atmosphere of Metal sound is Legend Of The Swamp Goat. Hell, this is HULL for Metal sakes!! A true riff infested gem is this song and you can hear it and make a purchase for yourself below. Metal be thy name. – Stone
