Veteran L.A. Thrashers ANGER AS ART will release their new album Ad Mortem Festinamus March 11 on Old School Metal Records. On the highly anticipated follow-up to 2013 barnstormer Hubris, Inc., the quartet has done the improbable by creating a roaring Thrash Metal beast that doesn’t just raise the bar; it crushes it into dust.

A lyric video for album track “Aim for the Heart” can be absorbed into the bloodstream at this location or below:

Recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ronald Sandoval at Rev Studios, Chino CA, Ad Mortem Festinamus (Latin translation: We Hurry into Death) is everything you’ve come to expect from ANGER AS ART…and more! Speeding recklessness, lacerating solos, and a shrapnel storm of riffs combine to make what will undoubtedly be considered one of 2016’s fiercest forays into Thrash Metal Armageddon.

Ad Mortem Festinamus is venomous, angry Thrash/Speed/Death Metal. If you feel that no one hears your voice and you’re pissed about it, then this is the album for you…because everyone is angry and ANGER is beautiful!

Pre-order Ad Mortem Festinamus here.

BAND BIO:

You may read a number of bios where bands will extol their virtues of being the next big thing, as important as Led Zeppelin and inventor of the wheel. ANGER AS ART doesn’t do that.  They don’t need to.

To know what ANGER AS ART is, one can look at what they have been since 2004.  A first-rate, old school Thrash Metal band – rooted in the history created by the members of the band. Take one look at their lineage – members of Abattoir, Evil Dead, Bloodlust, Hirax, Reverend, Bitch… and know where they are going.

Two World Tours, shows with Destruction, Overkill, Testament, Death Angel, Exodus, Saxon, Agent Steel, ex- Maiden vocalists Bayley and DiAnno, Tankard, Onslaught, Katatonia and many more.

THE ‘EVILUTION’ OF EVILYN STRANGE DUE ON MARCH 7TH

Posted in Hard Rock, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on January 14, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Evilyn Strange - Evilution - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MO33ILMFDSP993993

The ‘Evilution’ of Evilyn Strange will be released on March 7th through Thirteen772 Music. Featuring five tracks, the EP precedes a new 11 track album to be released later in the year. As well as announcing the release date the band have also revealed the artwork (above).

Frontman Phillip Strange and guitarist Mikael Johannesson have written a hard rocking follow-up to their debut album Mourning Phoebe. Says Phillip: “We’re definitely rocking a lot more this time out even though it wasn’t what I would call a conscious decision. We sat down and threw all sorts of influences into the mix with no restrictions. Mike’s playing on ‘Evilution’ is phenomenal, he’s on fire!”

Each of the five songs brings a unique flavour to the table. Continues Phillip: “The opening track ‘Let It Rain’ deals with the inevitable bumps in the road that life throws at you. The message is simple, do what’s right for you and yours; don’t let anyone hold you back or put you down… believe in yourself! ‘Invisible Man’ is about the side to you that you lock away from the rest of the world, where internal battles can make or break you. It’s about fighting your demons and keeping your head above water. It’s something most of us struggle with but is rarely discussed openly.”

Evilyn Strange - band logo - banner promo - #MO33ILMFDSP9939

Track three ‘Storm Clouds’ is perhaps the heaviest that Evilyn Strange have ever sounded. Says Phillip, “Mike wrote this insane riff with a thunderous rhythm part. I got really excited by it and we ended up with ‘Storm Clouds’, a real headbanging anthem. The subject matter is about getting yourself in a spot of bother by not thinking things through. It’s that common trap of being so focussed on one thing that the important things pass you by. I’m sad to say it’s very autobiographical, ha, ha!”

“The last two tracks, ‘ Never’ and ‘Stay’ are possibly the most obvious links to ‘Mourning Phoebe’. ‘Never’ is about struggling against the odds and trying to achieve the seemingly impossible. It’s often on the eve or succeeding that you feel at your lowest… hang in there!”

Of the final track ‘Stay’, Phillip concludes, “Some situations are so painful it’s all too easy to bury your head in the sand or run away. Of course, you can’t run from reality so eventually it’s gonna bite you on the ass one way or the other. Sometimes it’s better to stand and fight, however painful that may be.”

Produced by the band, ‘Evilution’ will be available to pre-order, from January 27th, in the CD format and digitally via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other popular providers.

Track List:

  1. Let It Rain
  2. Invisible man
  3. Storm Clouds
  4. Never
  5. Stay

Band Members:

Phillip Strange (All Vocals)

Mikael Johannesson (All Guitars)

On behalf of Swedish Grindcore stalwarts GADGET, Relapse Records is excited to announce that The Great Destroyer, the band’s first full-length in a decade, will see worldwide release this March 4th, 2016.

With the announcement, Noisey has premiered two new tracks from the album; stream “Violent Hours (For A Veiled Awakening)” and the title track “The Great Destroyer” now at THIS LOCATION.

Gadget - The Great Destroyer - promo album banner - 2016 - #MOILMFD33099

Though the band has largely flown under the radar in the general metal consciousness, Gavle, Sweden’s GADGET has roots that trace back to 1997. The band has always included influences from every other extreme genre that they’ve been fond of, like doom, sludge, hardcore punk, death metal, black metal and more, never letting genre boundaries stand in the way of their path of destruction. At the time of the band’s formation, GADGET existed as the grinding alter-ego of a Metalcore band whose members, including founder William Blackmon, simply switched instruments. Rikard Olsson and William teamed up in the winter of 1999/2000, and wrote the first GADGET demo as a duo.

GADGET then joined forces with Emil Englund to record a second demo, which was strong enough to grab the attention of Relapse Records, who signed the band for the release of their debut full-length Remote (2004), now featuring Fredrik NygrenRemote was extensively well-received, as was its 2006 follow-up The Funeral March. After touring Europe twice and performing at dozens of festivals worldwide, including at Maryland Deathfest and Auditory Assault in the US, GADGET has proven itself to be a relentless Grindcore force live as well as on record.

Album cover artwork by Randy Ortiz.

A blistering high-speed assault of relentless grind, GADGET’s new album The Great Destroyer is a cohesive exercise in extremity that blends hints of Doom, Sludge and Death Metal with unadulterated, old-school Grindcore. The result is an album that is as memorable and infectious as it is pummeling and explosive. With The Great DestroyerGADGET has released their most accomplished material to date!

The Great Destroyer will see release on CD, LP and Digital formats. Physical preorders are available now via Relapse HERE; digital pre-orders can be found at GADGET‘s Bandcamp page HERE.

WISHING WELL – Band Features Legendary Vocalist GRAHAM BONNET On Lead Single From Their Forthcoming Debut Studio Album

Wishing Well - Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul - single cover art - Graham Bonnet - 2016 - Inverse Records - #MO33ILMFD99

I’ve had the pleasure to listen to the first single, from the forthcoming debut studio album from Wishing Well, courtesy of Inverse Records. I’ll have to admit the song Hippie Heart Gyspsy Soul is a bonafide blast of Classic Hard Rock that has made my week! Wishing Well ROCKS this song to the Moon and back!

One all important reason this song soars is that Graham Bonnet shows off his distinctive and memorable vocals like the tried and true Hard Rock legend he is! Wishing Well features the great Graham Bonnet on this one song for their debut album and that alone makes this band very, very lucky indeed. Metal Be Thy Name – Stone

From Inverse Records:

Wishing Well are a Hard Rock band hailing from Helsinki Finland. “Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul” is the first single taken from the “Chasing Rainbows” debut album to be released on 5th of February via Inverse Records. For the single the band joined forces with legendary Hard Rock vocalist Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Alcatrazz) and came up with a catchy and melodic Hard Rock song.

“We wanted something extra to boost the album and when we wrote “Hippie” we instantly realized that Graham would be a perfect vocalist for the song in many ways. I’m a lifelong fan of Graham myself and it’s fantastic that we made it at the end of the day. Pete (vocalist Peter James Goodman) had no problem with it since he’s a big fan too! I’m proud and pleased with the result and it’s just amazing that at 68 he’s still delivering the goods” says Anssi Korkiakoski, the song writer and guitar player of Wishing Well.

Wishing Well - Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul - single cover art - Graham Bonnet - 2016 - Inverse Records - #MO33ILMFD99

Graham Bonnet will be very busy this year since he’s releasing a new album on Frontier Records and an authorized biography later on this spring, written by Steve Wright. He’ll also play live in Finland in April after his Australian tour. “The guys got in touch and after I heard the song I was immediately ready to give it a go. It’s a catchy tune and perfect for my range. I like the lyrics too. We recorded my vocals in LA and the guys took care of the rest of it in Finland. I’m always ready to cooperate if it’s a serious band with a good song. I wish the guys all the best.”

The band is now promoting the single and CD with plans to play live as much as they can later on this year. The band consists of Anssi Korkiakoski (guitars), Rip Radioactive (drums), Richard Becker (bass) and Peter James Goodman (vocals), all experienced musicians who have cut their teeth in many other bands before Wishing Well.

WHALES & LEECHES FOLLOW-UP SLATED FOR FALL RELEASE
VIA RELAPSE RECORDS

___________________________

Jan. 11, 2016, PHILADELPHIA – Red Fang, who recently celebrated their tenth anniversary with a trio of Northwestern U.S. performances, return to the studio in February, recording the follow-up to Whales & Leeches with famed producer Ross Robinson.

“I’ve never been more excited about making a record in my life,” said drummer John Sherman. “The writing process for this album has been super fun and full of energy and good vibes. And the opportunity to work with Ross Robinson is so crazy – I’ve got goose bumps just talking about it!!”

“Red Fang is the extreme mix of cool, wisdom, fire, life dedication and taste,” offered Robinson. “I’m stoked to see who they are at the deepest level on tape; anyone touched by Red Fang swim in coolness, they are true messengers of inspiration.”

The band, who are trekking from Portland to begin recording at Robinson’s Venice, Calif. studio, will play two shows en route: Feb. 17 at Jub Jub’s in Reno and Feb. 18 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz.

Whales & Leeches was released in October 2013 via Relapse Records. The 11-song album landed the band on The Late Show with David Letterman and in a world of trouble in the zombie-infused video for “Blood Like Cream,” which featured guest Fred Armisen (https://youtu.be/elfuaxHQWlQ).

Alternative Press said Whales & Leeches was “bigger, bolder, heavier, catchier and even more savagely fun.”

David Bowie has left us. David Bowie created Alternative Rock. David Bowie was and never will be duplicated, no matter how the copycats have tried and will continue to do so. Icon? Legend? Neither. David Bowie was bigger than those labels.

I’ve chosen this music video (below) to celebrate David Bowie, due to it’s fun side of both he and the great Mick Jagger. It is obvious neither Bowie or Jagger could give a rat’s ass about being too serious in this music video and that is what Rock ‘N Roll is truly about. God Bless David Bowie.

SNAKE EYES SEVEN “Medicine Man” Near Completion

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on January 8, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

SNAKE EYES SEVEN - promo band pic - 2016 - #MO2336699MFILAD

Canadian Heavy Metal band SNAKE EYES SEVEN is in the final phase of completing their third release titled ‘Medicine Man’. Currently being mixed by renowned producer and lead guitarist Cam MacLeod at the Wolf Den in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, ‘Medicine Man’ will prove to be their best effort to date. “Just like ’13 Crows’ was leaps and bounds over our debut, ‘Medicine Man’ will crush anything prior to what we’ve done.” says founding member, guitarist, and chief song writer Cole ‘The Madman’ Stevens.

Once mixdown is completed the project then heads to L.A. to be mastered. When completed the album will contain 9 blistering tracks of heavy metal and some of the finest songwriting/music in the band’s history. Two videos were shot on location in December 2015 at the Twin D Ranch (Site Management-Dan Folkstra) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and edited at Studio B in Victoria, British Columbia for the tracks ‘Medicine Man’ and ‘Can You Hear Me Calling’. Both videos were produced by Danny Deane, executive produced by Cole Stevens and executive assistance by Cat in the Hat Productions.

Snake Eyes Seven - yellow band logo - 2014

SNAKE EYES SEVEN has seen their share of tragedies, heart breaks, and band turnover through the years but that hasn’t deterred Stevens from moving forward. SNAKE EYES SEVEN has continued to evolve just as a great band should, musically and professionally. The new SNAKE EYES SEVEN is a group of seasoned music veterans. Cam MacLeod validates the band’s credibility and solidifies the musicianship as a whole. Bassist Mike Cillis yields the ‘heaviness’ to catapult the songs forward. Yet it’s the driving force of drummer Erik Young that wraps the package neatly into a monstrous metal sound. The Sabbath-esque qualities of SNAKE EYES SEVEN still remain evident but vocalist Danny Deane has the pure talent to deliver strong and powerful vocals with warm melodies yet he retains that raspy growl when necessary.

SNAKE EYES SEVEN is the complete package now. “I finally have ‘the’  band now says Stevens. It is a full team effort with all hands on deck. The guys are hungry and this is honestly the best band I’ve had musically, and professionally”.

‘Medicine Man’ mp3 Teaser

Details on the release date, cover artwork, track listing and the launch of their new video are forthcoming.

Chastain - promo band pic - 2015 - #MO33ILMF99ILMD9339

CHASTAIN – The legendary guitarist David T. Chastain returned in 2015, once again, with his eminent band CHASTAIN; delivering a new studio album of splendid Heavy Metal: We Bleed Metal. This album should be a training manual for those up and coming Heavy Metal bands that want to make their mark upon us veterans of real Heavy Metal. I am not freaking kidding.

David T. Chastain is (of course) astounding on We Bleed Metal, with vocalist Leather Leone delivering one of her most memorable of performances amongst her exalted Metal career. Drummer Stian Kristoffersen and bassist Mike Skimmerhorn are the super rhythm section, once again for CHASTAIN.

“All Hail The King” is one track from We Bleed Metal that I am proud to feature as Metal Odyssey’s METAL Pick Of The Day! Crank ‘er up all you Metal mutha’s and be grateful CHASTAIN exists. Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

METAL CHURCH – New Album “XI” Slated For Release On MARCH 25th Via RAT PAK RECORDS

METAL CHURCH RETURN WITH LEGENDARY VOCALIST MIKE HOWE

__________________________

(January 5th, 2016 – New York, NY) – Hard rock titans Metal Church return with their latest album XI slated for release on March 25th via Rat Pak Records. The band’s 11th studio release also marks the return of legendary vocalist and front man Mike Howe. The reunion between Mike and Metal Church started in July of 2014 when Mike started working with Kurdt Vanderhoof on a side project he was forming with Nigel Glockler from Saxon.

Through these initial conversations, Kurdt convinced Mike to ultimately return to Metal Church. The idea was to see if they could recapture some of the magic from the 3 albums Metal Church released in the late 80’s: The Human Factor, Blessing In Disguise and Hanging In The Balance. Out of those sessions, XI was born and captures the sound that made the band fan-favorites in the 80‘s and mixes it with a new, invigorated sound for 2016.

“Sometimes I still can’t believe it myself, no one would have ever thought Mike would return after his departure almost 2 decades ago” says guitarist and founding member Kurdt Vanderhoof.

“At first I struggled with the decision to come back, but after hearing the riffs that Kurdt was writing, I just couldn’t resist, the music called to me and I wanted to be part of it!” says returning vocalist Mike Howe.

Metal Church has also released an official music video for the debut single from XI, “No Tomorrow.” The video can be seen above or at: https://youtu.be/ary17dRnC3o and was filmed in the Satsop Nuclear Facility, an abandoned nuclear power plant in Elma, Washington. The video was directed by Jamie Chamberlin of Black Dahlia Films and features a unique visual that ties in to the location.

A behind-the-scenes video on the making of the video for “No Tomorrow” was also recently released and can be seen below or here: https://youtu.be/Rr0bHRjfhmU.

XI was produced by Kurdt Vanderhoof and co-produced by Chris “The Wizard” Collier.

Rat Pak Records has also teamed up with Nuclear Blast Europe through a worldwide licensing agreement for distribution of XI in all territories outside of North America, South America and Japan. “We here at Rat Pak Records were very excited to receive a licensing request from Markus Staiger and his amazing team at Nuclear Blast Europe to release this new Metal Church XI into their international territories, ultimately insuring that this album will reach every corner of the globe,” states Rat Pak Records President Joe O’Brien.

Markus Staiger adds: “We are happy and proud to welcome Metal Church, an absolute metal legend, to the Nuclear Blast Europe family! When the self-titled debut album was released in 1984, it was a revelation to me – that this was how heavy metal had to sound like – with killer riffs and plenty of speed! We will do our utmost to help re-establish Metal Church here in Europe and get them back where they belong – in the ‘Champions League’ once again!“ King Records will be overseeing the new Metal Church release throughout Japan. “We are very excited to be releasing the new album by Metal Church,” adds “Ryo” Saito of King Records.

Swedish Death Metallers TEMISTO Releasing Debut Album On Pulverised In February

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on January 4, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Temisto - promo album cover pic - 2016 - #MO33ILMLMD99344

Swedish Death Metal Duo TEMISTO will release its debut album on Pulverised Records February 26, 2016.  New track Above Sacred Ground is streaming at this location.

TEMISTO’s debut is the perfect mix of blasphemy and violence. Death Metal with bursts of intricate maze-like passages executed with razor-sharp precision, TEMISTO exudes a zeal for the obscure and unworldly. Formed recently in Stockholm, Sweden, TEMISTO consists of only two members: Leo Ekström Sollenmo and Sebastian Lindbom Gunnari.

The album was produced and engineered by ex-Morbus Chron frontman Robert Andersson with Elias Scharmer (ex-Abduction, ex-Mutilate) and then painstakingly mastered at Necromorbus Studio by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Desultory, Repugnant, etc). Also featuring the gracefully morbid artwork of Obsessed By Cruelty (Enforcer, Sabbat, Wolfbrigade, etc).

For fans of AUTOPSY, MORBUS CHRON, OBLITERATION, MORBID ANGEL, etc!

Track List:

1. Above Sacred Ground
2. Descent Into Madness
3. Abyssal Depths
4. Medusa
5. The Ritual
6. Succubus
7. Demiurge
8. Bestial Visions
9. Temple Of The Damned
10. Seance

TEMISTO - band promo pic - 2016 - #MO33ILMFLMD1099

BAND BIOGRAPHY

Leo was previously the frontman of a Death Metal act called Whore, releasing a demo-tape back in 2011. Whore split up around the same time and shortly after; Leo, Sebastian and two other guys formed what would later become Temisto. They recorded a two-track demo back in 2013 but eventually decided not to release it officially. By late 2014, the band realized that they had enough material for a full length album and a good opportunity to record it in a studio with Robert and Elias and so they recorded it all during two weeks in February / March of 2015.

HAPPY NEW YEAR From THE DEAD DAISIES!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on January 2, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

The Dead Daisies - Happy New Year - 2016 - promo band pic - #MO3939ILMFMD99

Dear Rockers Everywhere,

we’re calling in to wish all of you an amazing new year! 2016 will be awesome, with new music, some exciting announcements and as always lots of Rock’n’Roll! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you again to have a good time together. We especially want to thank you for the support, the amazing shows and the sheer love of music in 2015!

During the last year, there has been an overwhelming amount of ‘First times’: For example on Nov 8th, the opening night with Whitesnake in Moscow, a first for The Dead Daisies which would be followed by a long list of countries and cities visited (again) for the first time by the band including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia. We played a headline show in Paris, which turned out to be a very special celebration of joy & music, and headed for the UK and (another first) a headlining tour. We also made a welcome return to Israel. Quite a different line-up of the band played around the same time two years ago. This time around, John Corabi, Marco Mendoza and Brian Tichy were making their first (that word again) trip.

We can’t wait until we will be making more ‘firsts’ in 2016. And we would love for you to join the ride!

Happy New Year,
The Dead Daisies
