BACHMAN & TURNER “Live At The Roseland Ballroom, NYC” – Classic Rock Never Sounded So Good!

Posted in classic rock, classic rock albums, Hard Rock, Music, rock albums, rock and roll, rock concerts, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 21, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

BACHMAN & TURNER Live At The Roseland Ballroom, NYC was released on May 29th, 2012, via Eagle Rock Entertainment. Randy Bachman and C.F. Turner never sounded better and that’s my sincere opinion after listening to this double live CD. Each time I crank up these live Bachman & Turner songs, it makes me wish I was actually there that night this concert was recorded! As The Cars famously imbedded in my Rock ‘N Roll brain many years ago… Let The Good Times Roll.

Yes, Bachman & Turner are Rock ‘N Roll legends. Yes, they were the heart & soul of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. The real elation factor for me is they both have Rocked my head off in 2012 with a new live album! Classic Rock, Rock and Hard Rock fans should embrace the live performance they hear from Bachman & Turner, with slippery ease. Heavy Metal fans that get into the roots of Heavy Music will undoubtedly give their nod of approval to timeless classics as: Let It Ride, Takin’ Care Of Business, Not Fragile and Stayed Awake All Night. Timeless Hard Rock all, to my ears.

Since I was a young lad, the FM hits of Bachman-Turner Overdrive always reminded me of Summertime. (most of the RUSH catalog reminds me of Winter; only that’s another story). Maybe it’s the feel-good and loose vibes that spring-out from the BTO songs? Regardless of seasonal vibes, Bachman & Turner have recently entertained the livin’ hell out of me with this live concert recording; I don’t foresee my personal Rockin’ jubilation I’m receiving from it subsiding anytime soon.

___________________________

That’s What It Is, Moonlight Rider, Rollin’ Along and Slave To The Rhythm are songs from the 2010 self-titled Bachman & Turner studio album. I simply cannot get enough of these new Bachman & Turner songs, they all radiate that old-time Rock ‘N Roll feel, while coming across so grand with their lyrical simplicity. I guess that’s why this is called Classic Rock, after all.

American Woman, the co-penned Randy Bachman song and ultra Rock Classic by The Guess Who, is a thrill of an addition to take in from this live set! Just another timeless classic on this double live CD. If I’ve come across as being overly excited about Live At The Roseland Ballroom, NYC, then it’s probably due to these songs taking me on a Rockin’ care-free ride. Who could possibly refuse that nowadays? I’m not refusing it, that’s for damn certain. It’s all about the magic of Classic Rock… care-free vibrations while you Roll On Down The Highway. Metal be thy name.

C.F. Turner – bass & vocals

Marc Lafrance – drums, percussion & vocals

DER HUNDS “HOME” – 4 Song EP Packs An Impressive Hard Rockin’ Wallop! Stone’s Metal Pick Of The Day!

Posted in alternative rock, garage rock, grunge, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on June 20, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

DER HUNDS – They’re based in Bulgaria / Eastern Europe and they ROCK. They’re second release, Home (a 4 song EP), was released on June 12th, 2012… and it… ROCKS. They’re… DER HUNDS and they sound fabulous! If you’re into Hard Rock, Grunge, Alternative Hard Rock and/or Garage Rock, you won’t want to miss out on what DER HUNDS is playing here on Home.

A huge influence that I hear from their music is Soundgarden. No, DER HUNDS is not a Soundgarden sound-alike band, they certainly blend their own originality with any influences they may bestow. Vocalist Bobi does sound like Chris Cornell though; yet it doesn’t come across like he’s trying to. That’s just how I interpret what I hear and I really, really dig listening to DER HUNDS.

DER HUNDS is a DIY band and what a remarkable job they’ve done with Home. Excellent musicians, excellent songs. Record labels both independent and major should take my advice and check out the Heavy Rock sound of DER HUNDS. Metal as my witness, if I was a record label executive I would have this band signed today to at least a 3 album record deal. Yes, DER HUNDS is that legit, refreshing and relevant. Metal be thy name.

All four songs on Home are Rockin’ slam dunks. I can’t choose a favorite song here, therefore, the entire Home EP is my favorite! How’s that for Rock ‘N Roll democracy? Metal be thy name are these four songs exceptionally worthy of your time to check out. Home is available to stream and/or purchase at the DER HUNDS Bandcamp page by clicking the link below:

SPIDER ROCKETS “BITTEN” – Strap Yourself In… For One Hell Of A Hard Rockin’ Ride With Plenty Of Bite!

Posted in alternative rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, hard rock bands, Heavy Metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on June 18, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SPIDER ROCKETS – The new studio album, Bitten, from New Jersey’s Spider Rockets was released on June 5th, 2012, via P-Dog Records. Better strap yourself in for this bevy of Hard Rockin’ songs that shoot out from Bitten! Spider Rockets have raised their own bar of musical accomplishment with their new album and it undeniably Rocks from A to Z! Admittedly, I was expecting a great Spider Rockets album with Bitten; only I wasn’t expecting a standout album of this magnitude.

After my initial listen-through of Bitten, I realized these 10 songs kicked my ass. After reality settled in and several more listens, I also realized that Bitten is one of the BEST albums I’ve listened to across ALL Rock genres thus far in 2012. Crisscrossing Heavy Metal, Alternative Rock/Metal and Hard Rock, Spider Rockets take their sound to a level of fun and excitement that I’ve always yearned for from a band. Any band. You know, like Anthrax and Misfits fun.

If your unfamiliar with Spider Rockets you absolutely must take Stone’s word here: Spider Rockets are the missing F’n link in today’s American Heavy Music. Spider Rockets sound LOUD even when the volume is down. Spider Rockets spread an infectious energy into my senses upon the opening note of Better When It’s Loud. Yes, as vocalist Helena Cos sings, it’s “better when it’s loud, it’s better when it’s fast” and I’ll confidently state: this Spider Rockets band is built-to-last!

Helena Cos illuminates the song, she has a vocal identity unlike no other female front woman I’ve heard in my 100 years of living. I state this due to the similarity factor that too often seems to come into play within the world of Rock. Helena accentuates the lyrics and sings with the confidence and attitude that any aspiring singer should emulate. Did I mention this band can play? With Bitten as proof, this band is as solid as a newly forged set of railroad spikes.

The cover of Golden Earring’s 1982 #1 hit, Twilight Zone, makes the news here. Spider Rockets spray paints more Rockin’ relevance on this (decades long) over played song… that I actually like it again! The tempo is turned up a notch and the curled-lip vibe from Helena’s vocals makes Twilight Zone a brand new and welcomed listen to my ears. If you have already heard and dug the lead single Scream (which was aired all over the internet months ago), you’re in for an enormous treat: there are songs on Bitten equal to and even better than that single!

Spider Rockets will make you move… and if you don’t move to the fist-pumping, headbanging, carefree, riff-infested, melodic, rhythm saturated, bass thumping, Alternative Hard Rock inspired style of songs on Bitten, then forget about it cause you obviously have no pulse. Album opener Going Down sets the party mood and who-gives-a-shit vibrations afire; while album closer Bring Me Around has me wishing there were 2, 3, 4 or 5 more songs to flow through my Rock ‘N Roll hungry eardrums and veins.

Seriously, Spider Rockets have declared the status quo of Hard Rock as public enemy #1 with Bitten. Collectively these songs play-out so fabulously that Bitten is an album that ends way, way, way too soon. Ring that Spider Rockets bell and tell all the people in the streets… Stone has been Bitten. And I want to get bitten again… and again. It’s now your turn to get bitten by Spider Rockets. Metal be thy name.

Johnny Nap – guitar

Dan Prestup – drums

Timmy Tobin – bass

TAINTED NATION – Sign To Massacre Records

Massacre Records:

We’re happy to announce the signing of TAINTED NATION!

TAINTED NATION was officially introduced as a band in late October 2010, but the band’s history began earlier in 2009 when Pete Newdeck (Eden’s Curse, Steve Grimmet) started to write songs with his friend Ian Nash (Steve Grimmet).

Soon Pete and Mark Cross (Firewind, Kingdom Come) became close friends while being on tour together and talked about forming a new band with Pete as the lead singer. Pontus Egberg (The Poodles) joined TAINTED NATION in spring 2010 and completed the line-up.

TAINTED NATION music can be described as a modern and powerful sounding Hard Rock.

The debut album, produced by Pete Newdeck and mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward, was recorded in Greece, Sweden and the UK.

“F.E.A.R.” will be released in December 2012  via Massacre Records.

SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators “Apocalyptic Love” – #1 For My Rock ‘N Roll Soul

Posted in classic rock, classic rock albums, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Music, rock and roll, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on June 15, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SLASH – As of June 15th, 2012, my choice for #1 Hard Rock album of the year is Apocalyptic Love. I don’t see that #1 ranking changing either, unless there is a Rock ‘N Roll miracle and some other Hard Rock album knocks me on my ass while I’m begging for Rockin’ mercy. Just isn’t gonna happen. Am I too easy? No. I listen to many, many average albums that I don’t even bother to write about. Apocalyptic Love is different from any other Hard Rock album I’ve digested in 2012; when I feel it, man, it’s like an adrenaline rush that I want to experience again and again.

It’s always going to be a personal thing when it comes to music or any art. I’ve seen the worst looking art at the Modern Museum Of Art that has been crowned timeless and priceless! Then I’ve seen art that I would buy if I was a billionaire. The 13 songs on Apocalyptic Love are so immensely intense with everything I want from a Hard Rock album. You don’t have to be a billionaire to buy into the RNFN’R that Slash, Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators play. This album is Hard Rock for the here and now… and future Rock generations too.

Slash and Myles Kennedy aren’t just a remarkable duo as performers; they are remarkable songwriters as well. Just where will these two men of Hard Rock place on the all-time list of historic Rock ‘N Roll duos in the year 2050? I place them high right now in 2012. It’s not easy to write 13 songs with guitar parts that are all so unique either. No redundancy or short-changing the fans can be heard by my ears on Apocalyptic Love. No shortcuts… period.

With songs like Halo, We Will Roam, Anastasia, No More Heroes and Bad Rain, this album becomes a classic for me… and I haven’t even mentioned the other 8 songs. Yes, Apocalyptic Love is such a moving listen for me that it brings F’n tears to my eyes and ostrich bumps on my arms and face, while lifting me up at times when I’m down. Maybe someone out there knows what I’m talking about, maybe not. I don’t really give a shit. This is about what the album has done for me and my Rock ‘N Roll soul.

Anytime I listen to Myles Kennedy sing, I shake my head and wish Slash met up with him pre-1987 and the other whining singer he once played with became a milk truck delivery driver. I can’t possibly be alone with that feeling and if I am, again, I don’t give a shit. Slash tapped into some kind of mystical Rock ‘N Roll stuff during these post Guns ‘N Roses years and he’s caught Rock ‘N Roll lightning in an F’n bottle. No way will I disregard the magic of Myles Kennedy, however. I’ve never heard such a Hard Rock album such as this. Each song is an F’n hit single; back in the day when the American media actually embraced Hard Rock and Heavy Metal that is.

Picture this: you take the best of what psyches-you-out about old school Hard Rock and couple that with what elevates your soul from Hard Rock today; that combination for me equates to Apocalyptic Love. Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal albums will come and go, only this is an album that isn’t going away for me. I’ll keep this Apocalyptic Love CD within my arms reach for a very, very, very long time. Metal be thy name.

Apocalyptic Love was released on May 22nd, 2012, via DIK HAYD Records.

JOE WALSH “Analog Man” – Some Fun & Random Thoughts From Stone (Part Two)

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on June 12, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

JOE WALSH – I’ve been listening to Analog Man, the new solo album from the legendary Joe Walsh and decided to write my random thoughts on it. It has been a couple of decades since Joe Walsh released a solo album and Analog Man is a dandy. These fun and random thoughts will be posted in a series of parts.

Here is Part Two:

I am going to discuss in Part Two, the title track: Analog Man. What a song. (What an album for that matter and that is a topic for another time). Analog Man is an autobiographical song (and album) about Joe Walsh; only this title track represents how some of us old schoolers feel about the rapid ascent of the digital world; especially when this same digital world has tried to send analog into extinction. I lived the majority of my teen years during the 80’s and I still hold quite an affection towards analog.

Joe Walsh lyrically describes himself as an Analog Man and justifiably so. With so many generations that grew up with vinyl (45’s, LP’s & even 78’s), 8-tracks and cassettes, the digital revolution took us all by surprise in the early 80’s and I for one was never prepared. (Despite my being the first dude in the old neighborhood to own a Realistic CD player from Radio Shack). What I learned in college for computer technology was obsolete one year after I graduated! Plus, I, like Joe Walsh, have had a ten-year old show me how to use functions on a laptop and cell phone for that matter! That is absolutely not a lie.

When I first listened to this song, I kept nodding my head to both this song’s rhythmic beats and (agreement) to its lyrics. Joe Walsh nailed it when it comes to (the widespread social change of) movie ratings; with murder and violence getting the PG more often than R. Heck, I can remember when the Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th movies were rated R at the theaters. Now, these same slasher films are shown on Saturday afternoons (with little to no editing), on numerous cable networks.

The “new age” of television is touched upon by Joe Walsh so well in Analog Man. “With 100’s of channels and nothing being on” referenced, I can surely understand Joe’s point here. I find it amusing that there are numerous 24/7 news networks to begin with. We live in an era of information overkill and still advertisers flock to hock their products on these redundant networks.

The “digital dream” that Joe Walsh references throughout this title track is never going away anytime soon in our now global social network culture. Maybe I’m living the digital dream with Metal Odyssey? I’m also guilty as charged experiencing instant gratification of mp3 downloads… and it’s a necessary function of being a part of the music blogosphere.

In short summary, Analog Man is a lyrically genuine and super fun song that I definitely relate to. It’s as if Joe Walsh took the words right out of my mouth. Oh… this song without question Rocks my ears off too. Metal be thy name.

GREAT WHITE “ELATION” – A Great Album… Only Is It Really Great White?

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on June 7, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

GREAT WHITE – It’s difficult for me to write a review for Elation without admitting that I greatly miss hearing the vocals of Jack Russell. My generation of the 80’s grew up with Jack Russell as the frontman for Great White and his vocals were an identity to this bands overall sound. Thank goodness there is a back catalog of Great White that has Jack Russell’s voice all over it.

I don’t really care what the feud between Jack Russell and the members of Great White was or is about; all I know is Elation doesn’t sound like Great White to me. Is that a terrible thing? No. Elation does feed my ears quite impressively, with new vocalist Terry Ilous (of XYZ fame) giving it his all and sounding like the bona fide Rock star that he truly is. The tried and true musicians of Great White all sound, well, great. It’s just not the Great White vibes I was looking for. Something is missing and it’s Jack Russell.

Musically, this is still Great White and their playing some memorable Hard Rock; various parts bluesy and filled with plenty of spirited energy, along with a party till dawn atmosphere. Elation is an elevation of Hard Rock compared to their 2009 album Rising, still, no J.R. to hear. The mid-tempo and sappy ballad of Love Is Enough should have been shelved. This entire song sounds like a struggle for Terry to sing. I listen to Heart Of A Man, Lowdown, Just For Tonight and Shotgun Willie’s and I’m thrilled by each note!

Still, something is missing and… it’s… Jack Russell. Warrant couldn’t replace (the late) Jani Lane with Jaime St. James. That wasn’t Warrant for me. Yet, Warrant pulled it off marvelously with Robert Mason and now… they’re Warrant again. Many world-class bands have successfully changed over vocalists, I realize that. It’s just different with Great White, you know? I guess my Metal point is not every band can replace their long-time vocalist and expect every fan to celebrate in the streets with their decision.

I’ll make it clear, Terry is a talented Heavy Rock vocalist, no question. It’s just my interpretation (after listening to Elation several times) that the band “name” of Great White does not ring like it once did for me. Why couldn’t these guys have chosen a brand new name for their band? What would have been so terrible about the band name: Terry & The Titans? Or maybe: The band formerly known as Great White? Let’s try: The Sharks/Featuring Terry Ilous?

Certainly  “branding” is key in any industry and  the music world is familiarized with the (band) name Great White. That draws the money in for touring, merch and record sales, no problem. I get it. I have no reservations about recommending Elation to Rock, Hard Rock and Arena Rock fans; this album is a foot stomping, dirt kicking, quality album of Hard Rock songs. However, I really don’t know what to tell long-time Great White fans. It’s an essence thing that’s at issue here and Jack Russell carried 50% of it with his voice.

My late mother used to say “it takes two to tango” and that way of thinking makes perfect sense to me here. I only wish Great White and Jack Russell would tango together again. This entire Great White saga has me reflecting on this quote, as taken from the iconic 1967 film, Cool Hand Luke: “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” Then again, the late and legendary Frank Sinatra once sang a song called “That’s Life” and I couldn’t have expressed my opinions here more truthfully as I have done.

Elation is the twelfth studio album from Great White, released back on May 18th, 2012, via Frontiers Records.

Metal Odyssey Presents: Ten HARD ROCK Albums You NEED For This Summer Of 2012!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, melodic hard rock, melodic rock, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 7, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Jeff Scott Soto (Courtesy of Frontiers Records)

I’ve decided to extend another kind Metal deed upon my Rockin’ brethren this week. This time around, it’s Ten Hard Rock albums you NEED for the Summer of 2012! Whoa! Please notice the large link below each album chosen for this list; these links will take you directly to my review for that respective album. Enjoy and… Metal be thy name.

TRIXTER – NEW AUDIO MACHINE

TRIXTER has underscored the meaning of comeback. New Audio Machine is a thrill a second! If you’ve never listened to even one TRIXTER album from their brief past, this is THE album of theirs to start with. New Audio Machine is Hard Rock that is once again colorful, melodic, loud and (oops) fun!

TRIXTER “New Audio Machine” – 100% ROCKS! TRIXTER IS BACK!

VAN HALEN – A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH

It’s a year of Hard Rock comebacks and Van Halen is a BIG participant! How can any red-blooded Rockaholic deny their ears A Different Kind Of Truth? It just can’t happen! No matter how you slice or dice it, a David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen album = instant classic. At least I think so!

VAN HALEN ‘A Different Kind Of Truth’ – The Truth Is… This Album ROCKS!

SUNSTORM – EMOTIONAL FIRE

Joe Lynn Turner could release an album of Barbara Streisand cover songs and I would still listen with glee. With that said, Joe’s Sunstorm project returns and the Melodic Hard Rock ride on Emotional Fire is worth taking… again and again. Yes, my name is Stone and I’m a Joe Lynn Turneraholic.

SUNSTORM – ‘Emotional Fire’ – The Legendary Joe Lynn Turner and A Melodically Rockin’, Solid Album of Songs

MY DYNAMITE – S/T

Australia’s My Dynamite are all about meat and potatoes Rock ‘N Roll. Nothing fancy, no smoke and mirrors, just Hard Rock played the old-fashioned way! There’s some striking influence of The Black Crowes and 0% influence of Air Supply with My Dynamite. This is a band I NEED to see live in a club, before doomsday.

MY DYNAMITE – 5 Reasons To Buy This Solid Rockin’ Debut / ST Album Showcasing These Australian Rockers

JEFF SCOTT SOTO – DAMAGE CONTROL

I’ve come to the realization that Jeff Scott Soto is a good vocalist. Scratch that. Jeff Scott Soto is a world premiere vocalist! The bonus with Damage Control is that the band behind Jeff ROCKS like their lives depend on it. Melodic Hard Rock that’s superbly memorable  = Damage Control.

JEFF SCOTT SOTO “Damage Control” – 5 Reasons To Buy This Sterling Album

’77 – HIGH DECIBELS

They’re from Barcelona, Spain and they sound like Bon Scott era AC/DC. Sound cool to you? Well, ’77 and their sophomore album, High Decibels, has become a contagious listen for me! This band has reinvented the raw and hard Rock ‘N Roll wheel and I’m sticking to that.

’77 ‘High Decibels’ – Hard Rock That’s Old School & Damn Cool!

TYKETTO – DIG IN DEEP

Look! Right behind you! It’s another successful Hard Rock comeback story of 2012! Which one are we talking about now Stone? Why none other than… TYKETTO. Dig In Deep is an album that surprised the Hard Rockin’ hell out of me and I’m ringing that TYKETTO Melodic Hard Rock bell!

TYKETTO – Triumphs With Comeback Album “DIG IN DEEP”

SWEET – NEW YORK CONNECTION

Yes, the legendary Sweet has recorded an album of cover songs. Yes, these Rock historical songs have been covered by Sweet with: ROCK AUTHORITY! Whoa.

SWEET “New York Connection” – Cover Song Album Transcends and Celebrates The Classics Of Rock

JORN – BRING HEAVY ROCK TO THE LAND

I feel the new Jorn album can be placed on a Hard Rock or Metal list of albums. I’ve decided to place Bring Heavy Rock To The Land on this list. Jorn won’t mind. If you buy this fabulous album and play it respectfully LOUD through its entirety, you’ll realize just how much Jorn Lande means to our Heavy Rock community.

JORN “Bring Heavy Rock To The Land” – Some Metal Thoughts On This Heavy Rock Keeper

MOLLO / MARTIN – THE THIRD CAGE

Dario Mollo and Tony Martin are a formidable Heavy Rockin’ duo! At least that’s what I believe. This is old school Heavy Music that’s spray painted with heavy-duty relevancy. This album belongs. Period. When two talents  the likes of Dario Mollo and Tony Martin join forces, the resulting album is nothing short of a mandatory buy and keep.

MOLLO / MARTIN ‘The Third Cage’ – 5 Factors Spotlighting This Notable Album Of Hard Rock & Heavy Metal

BIBLE OF THE DEVIL “For The Love Of Thugs & Fools” – A Heavy Rock Prize For 2012 And Beyond

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on May 22, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

BIBLE OF THE DEVIL – The sixth studio album, For The Love Of Thugs & Fools, from Chicago’s Bible Of The Devil, has been released on May 8th, 2012, via Cruz Del Sur. This is a Rock ‘N Metal band that has been around the block several times… and their newest album chronicles the experiences they’ve encountered and seen. This is denim and leather. This is genuine bad-ass Rock ‘N Roll. This is Bible Of The Devil.

With a stellar combination of influences ranging from Classic Rock to Metal, the overall sound of Bible Of The Devil is so embracing and original that it’s unavoidably addicting. Heavy, hard and crunchy guitars, a foot stomping rhythm section, with a caravan of melodic moments to dive your voracious eardrums into; For The Love Of Thugs & Fools is a Heavy Rock delicacy that’s all wrapped up in a blue-collar package.

I can hear the spirit of classic Thin Lizzy and early KISS cascading from these songs that Bible Of The Devil play; and these guys play so damn accomplished. A “no remorse” vibe swirls around this album and I dig that a ton. Once again, originality is the key element and this band summons up what is exuberant about the golden years of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Duo guitars and sing-along chorus’ elevate this album to a level of Hard Rockin’ intoxication. Mark Hoffmann (vocals, guitar) sings with a free and easy enthusiasm; a cool reminder that Heavy Rock is supposed to be loose and not uptight after all.

I’ve been swept off my Heavy Rockin’ feet by Bible Of The Devil with their new album; an album so memorable, that it’s a flat-out prize which has been set loose on the Heavy Music world in 2012. Raw and Order, Anytime, Yer Boy and The Parcher are all heavy hitting’ gems among 9 gemstones. If you’re looking for a Rock ‘N Metal band that carries their street attitude into their music, with absolutely 0% bullshit, then you’ve obviously been looking for Bible Of The Devil all along.

Bible Of The Devil. For The Love Of Thugs & Fools. Metal be thy name.

TRIXTER “New Audio Machine” – 100% ROCKS! TRIXTER IS BACK!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, heavy metal news, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on April 12, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

TRIXTER – After reuniting back in 2007, the original lineup of TRIXTER have performed at Rocklahoma (2008) and the 2010 M3 Rock Festival, (to name a couple), therefore they have stayed relevant and in the scene in recent years. The last studio album from New Jersey’s TRIXTER was Hear!, released back in 1992 on MCA Records. It’s been a long time for patient fans of TRIXTER to finally sink their Hard Rockin’ ears into a new studio album from this band… the  wait is over!

New Audio Machine will be released on April 20th (Europe) and April 24th (North America) on Frontiers Records. For longtime fans of TRIXTER, this new album has been well worth the wait! This is the second time this week I will state: Sound the Hard Rock bells of glory, tell your children this story and open the flood gates to AOR & Melodic Hard Rock euphoria! With both the new TYKETTO and TRIXTER albums crossing my path this week, I feel like I’ve hit the Melodic Hard Rock lottery.

(One of) my favorite tracks on New Audio Machine is Physical Attraction. The Arena Rock vibes overflow from this entire album, only Physical Attraction just turns up the psyche-out meter to a combustion level for me. With songs like Get On It and Ride, I fully realize that TRIXTER has tapped into their gold selling past and made certain to make a song that resonates both relevancy and old school Hard Rockin’ glory.

I’m very impressed by each and every song on New Audio Machine. Forget about any “instantly memorable song” here. This entire album is instantly memorable. This new album from TRIXTER should be marketed as a Hard Rock & Good Times Companion. Lead vocalist Peter Loran sounds reborn. The entire band plays like a Hard Rock mission statement that reads: “We shall ROCK your faces off and you shall beg for more!”

Yes, I am begging for more. The all-inclusive Melodic Hard Rock vibes and power that is generated from this album comes across very real to me. Big guitar riffs, leads and solos ablaze throughout this album. Psche-you-out chorus abounds from every turn. A booming rhythm section. An all-encompassing blanket of super-charged Hard Rock bliss is thrown upon me from New Audio Machine.

If you’re a TRIXTER fan, get ready to celebrate or keep that celebration going for this superb comeback album. For other fans of Melodic Hard Rock, Classic Rock and AOR… don’t make the foolish mistake of passing over New Audio Machine. As TRIXTER puts it best: “Rock ‘N Roll will save your soul.” My mission is done here now. The rest is up to you… just remember… TRIXTER IS BACK!!

Metal be thy name.

TYKETTO – Triumphs With Comeback Album “DIG IN DEEP”

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, heavy metal news, melodic hard rock, melodic rock, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on April 11, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

TYKETTO – While staying relevant in recent time by performing in some of the worlds most notable Heavy Rock Festivals (Sweden Rock Festival, Download, Firefest and Hard Rock Hell to name a few) TYKETTO realized their fans were still out there and a new studio album was in order. Nearly two decades since their last studio album (1995’s ShineDig In Deep will be released on April 20th (Europe) and April 24th (North America) via Frontiers Records.

What’s that I hear? As I stopped writing this review, I peered out my office window to see what all the hoopla was outside. I noticed AOR, Melodic Rock, Hard Rock and Classic Rock fans dancing in the street, with their arms stretched out to the sun-filled sky. Yes, TYKETTO is back baby… and the Melodic Rockin’ ride you’ll hear on Dig In Deep is an exclamation point on this band’s musical career. When any 80’s or 90’s Heavy Rock band wants to make a comeback again, they should be required to listen to Dig In Deep.

Are you looking for that new Hard Rock album that seamlessly flows from one song to the next, while never letting up on the ROCK that makes your soul ROLL? Dig In Deep. Have you been yearning to hear real Hard Rock vocals once again, you know, that are not sugar-coated with the carbon-copy and computer enhanced Modern Hard Rock tones? Hello, Danny Vaughn.

Let’s talk guitar. Hard Rock guitar that’s both melodic and riff-tastic. Did I mention uncontrollably memorable too? Step in, Brooke St. James. Trust me my Hard Rock brethren… TYKETTO is back, baby. Sound the Hard Rock bells of glory, tell your children this story and open the flood gates to AOR & Melodic Hard Rock euphoria, cause TYKETTO has conquered the status quo and kicked the shit out of the Melodic Hard Rock doldrums with Dig In Deep.

Rhythm section? Jimi Kennedy (bass & backing vocals) and Michael Clayton (drums) are the thunderbolt and drumfire, respectively, on this amazingly habit-forming album of melodically driven songs. Hey, I just realized, there is a band out there that does give a shit about creating the complete album of songs still. They call themselves TYKETTO, by the way. Lead single? Screw that. Try this on for size: lead album. It’s called Dig In Deep.

By the time I caught my breath, after God knows how many listen throughs of Dig In Deep I joyously endured, the realization that TYKETTO has written and recorded once again, resulting in these eleven songs, made me feel like I’ve been beamed up to Happyville U.S.A. where the beers are always free and mp3’s don’t exist. A candidate for Comeback Album Of The Year”. Hard Rock as my witness and Metal be thy name.

What’s my favorite song on Dig In Deep? It isn’t This Is How We Say Goodbye. Ballads still suck most of the time in Stone’s world. This ballad doesn’t close out Dig In Deep on a high note. Nonetheless, a finely written song that will probably make someone cry out there. Whaaaaaa! The title track, Faithless and Sound Off are my three choice-cuts on this album of choice cuts… and this new TYKETTO album has (minus that last ballad) thoroughly ROCKED MY ASS OFF.

Excuse me now… as I head out to the street to join in with the hoopla…

DIG IN DEEP – Track Listing:

Faithless

Love To Love

Here’s Hoping It Hurts

Battle Lines

The Fight Left In Me

FURYON – ‘Disappear Again’ (Official Video) – Debut Album ‘Gravitas’ Releases March 23rd, Via Frontiers Records

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock albums, hard rock bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, heavy metal videos, melodic hard rock, melodic metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on March 10, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

FURYON – If you’re a fan of Hard Rock, Melodic Hard Rock and/or Melodic Heavy Metal, then do yourself a favor today and click on that FURYON video below. Disappear Again is sweltering with melodic guitars and vocals, along with more hooks than a fishing supply store on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. To say this song is an addictive listen (for me) is a gross understatement.

I wanted to hear an album or song this morning that would kickstart my Saturday into high Rockin’ gear, thus I turned to a band and album I’ve yet to check out until now. I am battling a stupid-ass cold and received a welcomed “lift” from a song that I wound up listening to at least 15 (or more) times while I slapped this post together. Disappear Again is that song. One damn vibrant rhythm section. Very cool guitar licks and the vocals of Matt Mitchell are stuff of 80’s Arena Rock jubilation.

The all-encompassing Melodic Hard Rockin’ vibe that FURYON delivers on this song has made my F’n day. Looks like FURYON has a nomination for Metal Odyssey’s Hard Rock song of 2012… signed, sealed and delivered. Metal be thy name.

The debut album from FURYON, Gravitas, will be released on March 23rd, 2012 in Europe and March 27th in North America. FURYON is signed to the ultra-Rockin’ Frontiers Records.

FURYON:

Matt Mitchell – Vocals

Chris Green – Guitars

Pat Heath – Guitars

Alex “Nickel” Bowen – Bass

Lee Farmery – Drums

Here’s the track listing for Gravitas:

Disappear Again

VAN HALEN ‘A Different Kind Of Truth’ – The Truth Is… This Album ROCKS!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, hard rock bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on February 13, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

VAN HALEN – As I pondered about what and how to write my review for A Different Kind Of Truth, these two realizations came over me: A. this album simply ROCKS and B. What can I possibly write that hasn’t already been written, debated and tossed around by countless other fans, bloggers, websites and the mainstream press? Whenever a titanic sized band releases a titanic “comeback” album, such as Van Halen has done, the Rock media world can get obviously flooded with album reviews and for good reason.

Having brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen join Hard Rockin’ and Heavy Hittin’ forces with David Lee Roth once again, on a full-length album, a long-awaited return of this magnitude since the RIAA Diamond Certified – 1984, is something special for fans of this band, (myself included). This Rock historic reunion becomes extra special, due to this new studio album resonating such a vintage return to form for Van Halen. Whoa, this album ROCKS. Regardless of when any “parts” of any of the songs were written for A Different Kind Of Truth, I’m in the crowd that cares only if the songs were written by members of Van Halen… and not ABBA.

Did I mention that this new Van Halen album ROCKS? Anyhow, life is short and when authentic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal can be written and recorded by this iconic band of the Rock music world and delivered to their patient fans, (there hasn’t been a Van Halen studio album released in 14 years), then there is valid cause for Rockin’ jubilation. This is not a reunion of a band that released a lone chart topping album 25 years ago. Van Halen dominated arenas and stadiums then… and will still now. This is a reunion of a band that can easily boast as much “important” musical influence as the likes of “American” Rock historic legends KISS, Aerosmith and The Doors, (to name a few).

Diamond Dave’s hair may be a “tad” shorter in 2012 and legendary bassist Michael Anthony may be absent from this “classic” Van Halen lineup, only the successful result of 100% pure Hard Rock is in the 13 songs my ears and senses have consumed from A Different Kind Of Truth. I’m both ecstatic and impressed simultaneously by this band. My relief from the first several listens of A Different Kind Of Truth lies in the fact that this new Van Halen album is not a dud, that all four of these musicians took the “right road” and decided to keep their sound real and true. Van Halen didn’t have to reinvent themselves just due to it being 2012. By the way, this album ROCKS.

Now, if you’re looking for a return to 1984, you best keep looking. A Different Kind Of Truth is an album that fits in quite fittingly “somewhere” within the first four Van Halen releases… with Diver Down looking over this album’s shoulder. Van Hagar? Certainly a fabulous and memorable era imbedded in my Rockin’ soul. Gary Cherone fronted Van Halen? A unique moment in Van Halen history that (in my Metal opinion) receives too often unwarranted and negative commentary. It’s now 2012 and this is Classic Van Halen. The Return of Van Halen. Diamond Dave fronted Van Halen. The world just became a “tad” brighter for me, as I wrote that preceding line.
