On October 22nd, 1969 – Led Zeppelin II was released on Atlantic Records in the UK. This iconic album would go on to sell over 12 million (plus) copies in the United States alone. Led Zeppelin II reached #1 in both the UK and United States. Led Zeppelin II would later unseat The Beatles Abbey Road album from the #1 position in the United States, as well.
On this day in KISSTORY – October 22nd, 1974 – KISS released their second studio album: Hotter Than Hell. This KISS album has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
On October 22nd, 1977 – Foreigner hits #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with their single Cold As Ice. This song is featured on Foreigner’s debut and self-titled album, released in 1977, via Atlantic Records.
On this day in 1982 – It’s Van Halen Day in Worcester, Massachusetts, as the band began a three-night performance at the Worcester Centrum.
On October 22nd, 1990 – Pearl Jam played their first ever concert when they performed at the Off Ramp Café in Seattle, Washington. On this Rock historic night, Pearl Jam went by the band name: Mookie Blaylock.
On this day in 1993 – The future Canadian Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, was interviewed by legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart on Much Music.
On October 22nd, 1996 – Journey released Trial By Fire, their first album in ten years, which went on to peak at #3 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Trial By Fire went on to sell a million copies in the United States. This was the last Journey album with vocalist Steve Perry and drummer Steve Smith.
On this day in 2000 – Pearl Jam performed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, celebrating the tenth anniversary of their first live performance.
On October 22nd, 2010 – Distributed by Paramount Pictures, Paranormal Activity 2 was released in movie theaters at midnight in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Canada, Poland, Brazil and Ireland. With a budget of 5 million dollars, this horror classic grossed just under 200 million dollars at the box office.

Born on October 22nd, 1945 was the legendary Leslie West. As a founding member, guitarist and songwriter of Mountain, Leslie West helped forge a path of Heavy Rock for other bands to follow.
