Greek epic/power metal force BATTLEROAR has revealed the cover art and track listing for their forthcoming studio album, Codex Epicus. Due on June 15 via Cruz Del Sur Music, the Codex Epicus album art was created by Vagelis Petikas of Revolver Design.
The follow-up to 2014’s Blood Of Legends was recorded at Devasoundz Studios in Athens, Greece and features a guest appearance from MANILLA ROAD guitarist/vocalist Mark Shelton on the song “Sword of the Flame”, reprising a role he first took on with “The Wanderer,” which appears on BATTLEROAR‘s 2005 album, The Age of Chaos.
Comments BATTLEROAR guitarist Kostas Tzortzis: “Mark is one of my biggest musical influences, my mentor and my brother. I am lucky enough to know him personally for more than 16 years and we have shared many experiences in many different places on this planet! So, during the creation of this album, I found myself drained of inspiration, with a nice song on my hands half-finished, but with absolutely no idea how to get it done. Time was running out and I was getting desperate, so I thought of asking Mark for help. Mark has never failed me and this time was no different. He wrote the lyrics, created the vocal lines, sang them and he even added a guitar solo in the end of the song. The rest is history…”
BATTLEROAR will support Codex Epicus with extensive live shows across Europe.
Originally formed in 2000, BATTLEROAR‘s self-titled debut album was released in 2003. The band followed it up with The Age Of Chaos in 2005 before joining Cruz Del Sur for the release of 2008’s To Death And Beyond…

Having signed a new contract with Metal Blade on the strength of three demo tracks, Borden opted to produce My Midnight Things himself, with Joey Scott as co-producer, who also handled all the drumming duties. “I knew what I was going for and had doubts that I could find a producer who would understand that,” Borden explains. “My approach is very different than what is happening in today’s current sound.”
The album was also mixed by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Adele, U2) and mastered by Tom Baker (David Bowie, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Tom Petty).
Borden is planning on hitting the road shortly. “I’ve already started working on the ‘My Midnight Things‘ show, and I really can’t wait to play these songs live,” Borden adds. “There are so many talented players out there in the world, I know I will find the right musicians to be on stage with me in my touring band in the new show. And just based on what is being talked about so far, it will be the best show I’ve ever done. I really do feel a new excitement that I have not felt in years. The best is yet to come.”

The road demons in GOATWHORE will return to the streets this May on a short run of live dates supporting Satyricon. The MetalSucks-sponsored trek — set to commence on May 13th in Los Angeles, California and run through May 30th in Austin, Texas — follows GOATWHORE‘s recent month-long European live takeover with Sepultura where frontman Ben Falgoust performed in a cast after sustaining a broken leg and fractured foot just days into the journey.

TYR is currently finishing work on their eighth studio album, due out this fall via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2013’s critically claimed Valkyrja full-length involves a story based around a nameless, Viking-era warrior who leaves his woman to impress the Valkyrie on the battlefield so that she may bring him to Valhalla, or to Folkvangr, the home of Freyja, the goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, sorcery, war, and death. One can say the album is also indirectly about women and how they affect men and what men will do to impress and obtain women. Joensen elaborates, “The woman that the warrior leaves may represent the earthly women. Freyja, The Lady Of The Slain, may represent the perfection of women, and the Valkyrie is the link between the two, taking men from earthly to godly women.”

We wanted to make a long, epic, atmospheric composition, without forgetting a heavier approach. One could maybe find some influences from Finnish bands Sentenced & Swallow The Sun. During the recordings we heard saddening news that one of our friend departed this life so this track is made in memory of him. This song will take you for a moment to a music trip where the waters of Tohtaa will flow forever, says the band’s drummer Sami Vertanen. Mixing is handled by guitar virtuoso Lassi Tiainen (ex-Drawn Awake).

Portland, Ore., March 12, 2018 – Witch Mountain return from their three-plus-year hiatus with a refreshed line-up (new singer Kayla Dixon and bass player Justin Brown join band stalwarts Rob Wong and Nate Carson) and a new album: Witch Mountain (May 25, Svart Records).
“We’ve always been a patient band,” said founding member/drummer Nathan Carson. “Thanks to all of the touring Rob and I have done with Justin and Kayla over the last three years, we were able to make this album as a full-fledged, road-tested, family unit. Over twenty years, Witch Mountain has never peaked; each record and tour are better than the last. It was a tiny scene when we started, and even though it’s incredibly saturated now, own unique twist on Northwestern doom has continued to set us apart. Death Metal defenders of the old, GRUESOME, has completed their second full-length album and follow-up their 2015 debut full-length, Savage Land. Their latest studio offering, titled Twisted Prayers, was recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349, Goatwhore, Wolvhammer) at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Florida. Twisted Prayers follows Death’s paradigm shift during the Spiritual Healing era, incorporating more cerebral, melodic instrumentation with elements of thrash and thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. The record once again features artwork from the legendary Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Venom) and is expected to be released this summer via Relapse Records. Stay tuned for more info to be announced in the coming weeks.
