LAMENTATIONS – Releasing “Passion Of Depression” on Willowtip In November

Progressive Death Metal quartet LAMENTATIONS will release sophomore full-length album Passion Of Depression on CD, double-vinyl LP, and digital formats November 11 via Willowtip Records.

The album’s first single, “Prodigal,” is streaming now on: YouTube and Bandcamp.

LAMENTATIONS are back with their second full-length, following 2016 debut album, “Echoes in the Wind”. Frontman Danny “Jungle” Jacob is now working with members from the sister band Monotheist: Chris Stropoli (Drums), Prophet (Guitar); and Jose Figueroa (Bass).

“Passion Of Depression” is a cinematic concept album that portrays the pain, pleasure, joy and sorrow that encompass one’s life journey. Razor sharp, methodical riffs drive complex, serpentine compositions supported by a myriad of keyboards, and other classical instrumentation.

The music on the album is supported by various guest musicians, who add a sense of mysticism to an already otherworldly journey, including guitarists Jason Gobel (ex-Cynic), Santiago Dobles (ex-Cynic), Ole Borud (Extol), Ethan Mckenna (Black Crown Initiate), Max Phelps (ex-Cynic, Exist), which are sure to elevate the album’s already multi-layered, grandiose and emotional sound even further.

GNASH – To Release Debut EP “Shared Nightmare”

Sludge metal newcomers, GNASH, are preparing to unleash their debut EP, Shared Nightmare, on September 22nd.

Josh Richter of GNASH comments:

“I’ve never done a concept record before so I wanted to try to tell a story in great detail over an entire record rather than just one song. As dark and gruesome as the concept is, the underlying theme is the feeling of carrying around emotional baggage and trauma your whole life and the effects it takes on someone. Life is a heavy burden sometimes.”

Formed this year in Columbus, Ohio, GNASH has already established a powerful and unique sound, drawing influence from the depth of death metal, the raw emotion of black metal, and heaviness of sludge metal, the band’s debut EP, Shared Nightmare, is a profound and thought-provoking insight into the darkest reaches of mental health issues.

Shared Nightmare tells a tale of conjoined twins, where one half of the pair dies. The remaining twin must continue on in life, carrying with him a corpse he can’t be rid of. The EP is an exploration of what it means to bear trauma and the toll it takes after a lifetime of being weighed down by such inescapable feelings. 

Not for the faint of heart, prepare to be transported into a dark and chilling tale in GNASH’s debut EP, Shared Nightmare, coming September 22nd.

THE EFFIGY – Releases New Single “One With My Enemy”

Heavy, cinematic gothic artist, THE EFFIGY has released a lyric video for their new single “One With My Enemy”. The single is also out today on all streaming platforms. Portraying a dark and profound narrative of emotional abuse, THE EFFIGY creates dynamic musical arrangements to convey the spiraling torment experienced by the track’s protagonist.

Influenced by the likes of GARBAGE, JOY DIVISION, EVANESCENCE, and KEANE, and thematically inspired by gothic and folk imagery, along with mythology, THE EFFIGY‘s music is a cinematic array of eclectic styles. Following their previous single “Cindersun”, which draws from Ancient Greek mythology, telling the tale of Icarus and the Sun who are framed as two lovers forever at odds, “One With My Enemy” exhibits another side to their music. Fusing delicate piano melodies, with heavy guitars and synths evoking a nod to the early noughties, a gothic through-line underpins the track. THE EFFIGY‘s vocals deliver both a soft intimate tone and powerful soaring lyrics that aptly reflect the intensifying mood of the song.

RESIDUAL SELF – To Release Single “Witches”

Heavy trio RESIDUAL SELF are conjuring a melting pot of heavy sounds in their new single “Witches”. Spellbinding solos, dynamic groove rhythms and devilish harsh vocals blend together in this enchanting release. The offering “Witches” will manifest on September 16th.

“RESIDUAL SELF created this song for the events 330 years ago taking place in Salem, Massachusetts. With the lyrical themes of revenge and retribution, the witches have returned, along with their magick. In New England, where RESIDUAL SELF is based, there is a huge jam band scene that both Rex and David have experience playing in. This song “Witches” draws on both our background experience, and our location close to Salem. It is the lengthiest song we’ve made so far with multiple guitar solos from Josh. This is our answer to a jam style song, but bringing the hard and heavy style RESIDUAL SELF is known for.”

Initially created as a solo project by Rex Mazza, RESIDUAL SELF soon grew into a three-piece and the outfit signed with Sliptrick Records in 2020 to release their first full length album Revenge. CRUEL FORCE – Signs With Shadow Kingdom Records, Prepares Comeback Album And Reissues Of Back Catalog

Shadow Kingdom Records announces the signing of Cruel Force. The first fruit of this union shall be the band’s highly anticipated third album, which will see release next year. Additionally, reissues of the band’s cult two albums, 2010’s The Rise of Satanic Might and 2011’s Under the Sign of the Moon, will follow on Shadow Kingdom on all formats.

Truest of the true, Germany’s Cruel Force burst onto the scene in 2008 with the Into the Crypts… demo. While many have tried to emulate the ancient German (black)thrash sound, Cruel Force brimmed with an authenticity that could not be denied, as well as songwriting that added to that noble tradition rather than lazily picking at its corpse. Their two successive albums, 2010’s The Rise of Satanic Might and 2011’s Under the Sign of the Moon, made Cruel Force a certifiably CULT name in the international metal underground. Sadly, the band fell into a hiatus following that second album, but now are reinvigorated with the comeback 7″ EP Across the Styx and are ready to make up for lost time with their imminent new album with Shadow Kingdom.

This way, we hope that access will get easier and more affordable for you folks.”

We feel that this is the best decision for the band and the fans, and we are looking forward to spread the metallic mayhem through Shadow Kingdom Records in the future!

Moonspell, Swallow The Sun & Witherfall Tour Canceled

Witherfall has absolutely nothing to do with this tour cancellation. We found out during rehearsals that the tour had been pulled, one week before the band were set to fly out to pick up our bus. Witherfall had every last production detail on our end completely solidified. Airline tickets, Bus, Trailer, Driver, Tour manager, Shipping of Tour merchandise (which has dates printed on them that no longer exist!!!) Rehearsals, Witherfall Beer at venues and countless other expenses that will not be reimbursed. Needless to say, we are devastated by this news. Each one of the aforementioned pieces took months of planning and every detail was carefully managed making this endeavor very time consuming and VERY expensive.

The reality of the math is Witherfall will need to eat the upfront costs of over $12K not including what our crew, and band members will lose because they turned down other work. None of these expenses will be recouped. We apologize to our fans that has had plans that were affected. We had every intention of bearing the cost to put the band out on the road. Again, we had everything planned and were ready and excited to get to play and meet the fans coming out.

We are extremely upset by this last minute rug pull. Even the best case scenario the band would still be operating at a loss but that is the price of bringing our music to you all. FRAGMENTUM – Release New Single, “Quirigua Successors”

Belgian melodic dark metal band FRAGMENTUM has released a brand new track, “Quirigua Successors.” The song is a continuation of the Mayan themes explored in the band’s 2021 release, “Masters of Complexity”.

FRAGMENTUM guitarist/vocalist Jan Bruggeman comments on the single: “Quirigua Successors’ is a song about a Mayan clan that endured, but survived Clash Of The Clans and Feast Of The Flesh, as described in our previous album Masters Of Perplexity. The album ends with ‘Secrets Of The Stones,’ like extinguished Maya settlements do, but the Quirigua people are a strong and smart clan. Will they reveal these secrets and who knows what else the future brings for them?”

FRAGMENTUM is a melodic dark metal band from Lokeren, Belgium founded by Jan Bruggeman and Gunnar Nopens, accompanied on stage by Wouter Macaré (drums) and Ozzy Voskuilen (bass). The band has been described as a hybrid of Depeche Mode and In Flames, featuring melodies, synths, and ambient sounds combined with heavy riffs and crushing grooves.

In 2019, FRAGMENTUM released its first full-length album, Pugnacity, which showcased a more straightforward approach than earlier material. The album’s lyrics were focused on personal turmoil and inner struggle.

A concept album, titled “Masters Of Perplexity” was released in 2021. This album explored Mayan history and philosophy, each song a chapter in an elaborate and epic story. After the album’s release, FRAGMENTUM embarked on a short tour across Eastern Europe.

You can experience the band’s most recent creation, a single titled “Quirigua Successors” this summer. The song is a precursor of their next full-length album, coming later this year.

FRAGMENTUM has shared the stage with some of metal’s biggest names, including Children of Bodom, Swallow the Sun, Wolfheart, Soulfly, and Annihilator.

The journey runs from September 16th in Austin, Texas and closes with a performance at Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama on September 23rd. The week-long tour includes two shows supporting statemates Eyehategod.

Formed in 2016 by guitarist Tyler Harper and drummer Jeremy Randazzo, the initial idea for CAPRA was to create something that would be fresh while still giving listeners a sense of nostalgia for the sounds of the late ’90s and early 2000s hardcore and punk scenes. Following various lineup changes, and adding Crow Lotus (vocals), Trevor Alleman (guitar), and Ben Paramore (bass) to their ranks, everything came together. In Transmission — recorded with Jai Benoit (Golgothan, Father Rust), then mixed by Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues), and mastered by Brad Boatright (Pig Destroyer, Integrity, Torche, Idle Hands) — represents the culmination of years of hard work, reflecting everything they’ve been writing and pouring into the band since solidifying the lineup.

Canadian extreme music festival LOUD AS HELL will be celebrating 10 years of roaring decibel-breaking metal from July 29th to 31st at the Dinosaur Downs Stampede Grounds in Drumheller, AB.

LOUD AS HELL has hosted hundreds of Canadian and international bands annually since the first metal jamboree in 2012 with exception of 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. During its decade of showcasing Canadian and international bands to Alberta metal fans, the festival has grown into a pilgrimage for metalheads from across Canada. Past years have hosted headliners such as Into Eternity, Goatwhore, Battlecross, Fit for An Autopsy, Anciients, Archspire, Unleash The Archers, Striker, KEN mode, Obey The Brave, Protest the Hero among many more.

This year’s 2022 lineup is another special one with headliners Vancouver’s AngelMaker bringing their guttural and brutal beauty to the LAH stage for the first time in support of their latest album “Sanctum” along with LAH alumni Neck of The Woods for the Sunday festivities. The lineup also witnesses the reunion of Montreal metalcore titans Endast along with a rare appearance from Calgary’s prog squad Divinity for the Saturday moshpit. And for the Friday opening night, the venomous deathcore of Vancouver’s Carcosa and Calgary blackened death eaters Plaguebringer will set off the debauchery of extreme proportions.

Death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE will close out 2022 with a North American headlining tour! The month-long journey will commence November 3rd in Silver Springs, Maryland and run through December 10th in St. Petersburg, Florida with support provided by Dark Funeral, Immolation, and Black Anvil. The trek includes a headlining performance at the first annual Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Denver on December 2nd. Additionally, the band will appear on this year’s edition of the Blue Ridge Rock Festival this September. Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, July 22nd at 10:00am local time. CANNIBAL CORPSE continues to tour in support of their critically cherished Violence Unimagined full-length, released last year via Metal Blade Records. Comprising eleven tracks, Violence Unimagined is state of the art death metal played with passion and breathless precision, making for another flawless addition to what is inarguably one of the premier catalogues of the genre.

While they continue to do what they do with aplomb, the one substantial change to CANNIBAL CORPSE is the addition of guitarist Erik Rutan to their ranks, joining bassist Alex Webster, founding drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, guitarist Rob Barrett, and vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. After twelve studio albums and several #1 chart positions in Finland, THE 69 EYES have no plans of slowing down. The band recently announced a massive European Fall tour from October through December 2022 and are also working on a new full-length studio release that will see the light of day in early 2023. In the meantime, the Helsinki Vampires allow no rest for the wicked and have unleashed a brand new single: “Call Me Snake.” It’s a dark summer hit, mixing an ‘80s gothic vibe with hard rocking guitars. Imagine The Stooges meeting early Ministry and ‘90s horror movies, and a track that shines through its simplicity yet still offers crazy twists around every corner.

“It’s 1997 in John Carpenter’s Escape From New York sci-fi classic and Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken saves the world,” comments vocalist Jyrki 69. “These are the thematic elements for ‘Call Me Snake’ and the world will be saved again!”
