Wisconson Hardcore/Metal/Punk Bands To Release Compilation In Protest Of Governor Scott Walker

A group of local Punk, Hardcore, Metal and Indie musicians have teamed up in protest against governor Scott Walker. Led by DJ Hostettler (of IfIHadAHiFi) and Anthony Webber (of Heavy Hand), the bands have gathered together to release UNINTIMIDATED: Wisconsin Musicians against Scott Walker – a compilation CD/DVD that will raise funds for issues that Governor Walker reportedly detests. The compilation will also include an old-school cut-and-paste zine, and all proceeds will go to soup kitchens and Planned Parenthood.

DJ said about the compilation: “We’ve worked on this project for about a year now, hatching our scheme in February 2015 and moving from gauging interest in the bands, to securing a studio, to convincing an absolute murderer’s row of musicians, engineers, cameramen, editors, and gruntworkers to donate their time to a project that, in today’s political environment in Wisconsin, runs the rest of being little more than a cathartic scream into the wilderness. But hopefully it’ll be more than that.

If this collection of songs can raise money for some solid causes that help those whom Scott Walker refuses to help, then this is a success. If this collection of songs provides a soundtrack for a political revolution in Wisconsin that leads to motivated progressives taking back our state from the tyranny of the rich and power-mad, then holy shit, that’s amazing. But at the very least, we will have provided a document of artistic work that will hopefully stand for generations and show Wisconsin, the country, and the world, that no, not everyone in Wisconsin was satisfied to sit and let Scott Walker and his corporate overlords ruin our state.

There were at least 16 bands’ worth of progressive punk rockers that said, “we are ANGRY and we want the world to know it.” If all this project achieves is a mighty, violent scream of outrage, well, at least we managed that and hopefully someone heard us.”

UNINTIMIDATED: Wisconsin Musicians Against Scott Walker is a group of Wisconsin bands who convened in late August, 2015 to record a rapid-fire series of protest songs condemning Wisconsin governor Scott Walker. Each band had a two-hour block of time to record their song at Howl Street Studios in Milwaukee. The end results will take form as online videos, music, and a physical CD/DVD/zine release in Spring 2016.

Proceeds from the sale of this product will be donated to
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Milwaukee soup kitchens in the interest of assisting the lower-income citizens most threatened by Scott Walker’s regressive policies.

DARK FOREST – Announces New Studio Album

UK traditional Heavy Metal band DARK FOREST will hit the studio again in April to record Beyond the Veil, the follow-up to their acclaimed The Awakening release.

For the album artwork the band has tapped the skills of Duncan Storr, known for having produced some beautiful artworks for Skyclad, Rage, Hawkwind, Elixir and more.

The album is set to be released in late summer 2016. Artwork and track list for Beyond the Veil will be revealed soon.

TYFON’S DOOM Signs With Gates Of Hell

Finnish Heavy Metal entity Tyfon’s Doom has signed a deal with Cruz Del Sur Music subsidiary, Gates of Hell.

Tyfon’s Doom is a one-man band that brings to the table an obscure and unpolished style of traditional Heavy Metal. Tommi Varsala, the man behind this project, was able to capture the original spirit of Metal like only a few other bands in today’s scene. While influences such as Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate and early Metal Church are apparent, Tyfon’s Doom sounds incredibly fresh and personal.

With brilliant songwriting, great guitar work and gritty vocal style, Tyfon’s Doom will bring you back to a time when you were discovering amazing new bands by looking through the Metal LPs at your local record store.

UK-based Metallic Sludge/Hardcore band ALLFATHER are pleased to announce that they have signed with Static Tension Recordings to release the CD and cassette version of their upcoming album Bless the Earth with Fire in North America.

The album contains six tracks of blistering Metal that sounds like a cross between Black Sabbath and Corrosion of Conformity, mixed in a blender with High on Fire and Hardcore Punk. Bless the Earth with Fire is set to be released on April 29th. ABOUR ALLFATHER:

The light is dying and if you’re going to rage against it, you’ll need all the furious volume you can muster. Dealing out titanic riffs and lacerating vocals since 2014, Allfather combine Sludge Metal nihilism with Hardcore Punk aggression and full on Metal stomp to forge a harsh yet defiant soundtrack to the darkest of times.

From humble beginnings, Allfather have honed their line-up into a hard-hitting five piece, channeling heavyweight song craft through a classic dual guitar assault. Allfather’s members come from a variety of musical backgrounds and draw on a range of influences, but the band’s sound coalesces around riff-driven Metal, with the likes of  High On Fire, Nails, Black Breath, Iron Monkey and Electric Wizard forming musical touchstones. Lyrically the band’s concerns spring from a burning frustration at the times we live in, with occasional forays into the tortured minds of Dostoevskian madmen and vengeful gods.

When they’re not locked in the Allfather practice bunker summoning up riffs, the band’s members work day jobs and raise families, while still finding the time to share stages with the likes of Cold World, Venom Prison, Title Fight and The Moth. The mix of Punk and Metal encapsulated by those bands informed the sound of forthcoming release Bless the Earth With Fire. This new EP, the follow-up to Allfather’s debut release No Gods. No Masters, signifies a significant step up in intensity and ambition, marking the next step in the band’s journey into the gathering darkness.

Seattle, Washington Doom band SAMOTHRACE are pleased to announce that they will be heading across the pond for a spring tour of the United Kingdom! The tour will consist of 14 dates between 27th of April to 11th of May, and includes a date at the highly regarded Desertfest London.

Guitarist Brian Spinks had the following to say about the upcoming dates:

“We (Samothrace) are very pleased to announce we will be returning to the UK for a tour this upcoming Spring. In addition to our Saturday appearance at Desertfest London 2016, we will be traversing across England and Scotland with some additional shows afterwards possible on Western European soil. More info on them in the coming weeks. The few shows we played thru England in 2013 went by in a flash, far too quickly for our speed of life. Victorville, California-based SO THIS IS SUFFERING has forged an alliance with Unique Leader Records for the release of the band’s impending fourth album which is currently in production. Additionally, the band has confirmed a headlining April US tour with Lord Of War.

SO THIS IS SUFFERING is a post-deathcore outfit formed by Zedadiah Martinez and Zechariah Gamez in 2007. After years of sacrifice, the band further developed by solidifying its lineup with longtime friends Robert Brown, Fabrizio Toscano, and James Williams. Having self-released three albums and relentlessly performing across the United States, they’ve made a name for themselves as one of the heaviest and hardest-working current DIY bands. By melding emotion driven lyrics with the sounds influenced by a broad spectrum of musical tastes, the members plan to leave their mark in extreme music.

SO THIS IS SUFFERING is currently writing their fourth full-length album, A Palace For The Pessimist, the band’s first release for Unique Leader Records. Issues the band of the signing, “We’re excited to be working with one of the top leading labels in extreme music. It’s been a long journey and we want to thank our fans for their endless support along the way, thank you!”

In the meantime, SO THIS IS SUFFERING has also announced an upcoming headlining tour for April, with support being provided by Lord Is War. The Western US-based tour will run from April 8th through 23rd, and will see the caravan running through California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

BUSHWHACKER BIO

In an era of over-classified genre taxonomies, it’s a breath of fresh air to find a Metal band that just makes music. Vancouver’s Bushwhacker is one such. Their sound combines influences from many decades, from traditional Death and Black Metal genres to 60’s and 70’s British Prog and Psychedelia and even further to Jazz and darker 1800’s-era classical. The result is a complex and thoughtful arrangement that both challenges and pleases the ear, defying classification.

Though Bushwhacker now resides permanently in Vancouver, the stark wilderness and mountainous landscapes of their Yukon homeland still shine through in the power and intensity of their music. Formed in Whitehorse in 2008, Bushwhacker began with four high school friends that shared a love of old-school thrash metal. With Geoff Woods on guitar and vocals, Cavan Egan on guitar and vocals, Sean Komaromi on drums and Keenan Dennehy on bass, the quartet began to write and perform original music. They released their self-titled debut in July 2011 and followed it with a tour through BC and Alberta that ended in Vancouver, their chosen new home.

After settling in Vancouver, the band parted ways with Dennehy and brought in fellow Yukoner Rory O’Brien on bass and vocals in October 2012. With the addition of another composer and vocalist, Bushwhacker then began a new era of songwriting; inspired by all the variety and opportunity the city had to offer, they began to explore new avenues and sounds.

August 2013 saw them in the studio at Rain City Recorders, putting the finishing touches on their newest work, a one-song, 20-minute EP called Fish Guy. A shining example of evolution done right, Fish Guy features all the passionate metal fury of their earlier works, while still boiling, now carefully honed into effective, driving riffs and passages, framed and punctuated by evocative, dexterous psychedelic breaks and solos. Classic thrash vocals have expanded into a medley of layered harmonies, eerie growls and epic choruses, carrying lyrics full of ancient nautical superstition.

In 2014 the band again entered Rain City Recorders in Vancouver to record what would become a career high water mark in The False Dilemma. Engineered by Stu McKillop and Mark McKitrick, and mixed/mastered by McKillop, The False Dilemma is a profound slab of Heavy that drips of Black and Death Metal whilst delving deep into the realms of psychedelia, which sees the quartet evolving into a darker, fine-tuned machine of cynicism.
