The box set gathers all of Rainbow’s classic singles
__________________________
As one of the cornerstones of British Rock, Rainbow, led by the never-predictable but ever-astonishing guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, became synonymous with some of the most well-regarded and popular charting Rock songs of the seventies and eighties. From the mystic and quasi-religious ‘Man On A Silver Mountain’ to the solid gold anthems of ‘All Night Long’, ‘Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll’ and ‘Since You Been Gone’, each year in the decade of Rainbow was marked by some of the best songs and performances captured both on record and in-concert.
The box set gathers all of the band’s classic singles from the era in replicas of the original release, alongside a book featuring details on each of the titles.
Passing through the band were some of the best the genre had to offer. Vocalists Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet, bass player and producer Roger Glover and drummer Cozy Powell, each brought their individual talent to the table to record some of Rock’s best-loved Hard Rock on those timeless singles.

New album to feature guest appearances by Rodrigo y Gabriela, Alexi Laiho, Danko Jones and more; European tour with Gus G to kick off May 1st

Widely respected as the most influential lead guitarist in Thrash Metal history, MARTY FRIEDMAN has confirmed the final track listing for “Inferno,” his first solo album of original material in four years, and his first recording in more than a decade that will be released worldwide simultaneously.
Due out in late May via Prosthetic Records (except in Japan, where the album will be released by Universal Music), “Inferno” – recorded primarily in Los Angeles with engineer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Children of Bodom) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth), features what FRIEDMAN recently told Guitar World is “the most intense writing and playing I can do.”
The album also includes notable guest appearances by several artists influenced by FRIEDMAN, including flamenco/metal acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, Children of Bodom front man Alexi Laiho, Skyharbor mastermind Keshav Dhar and Revocation guitar whiz David Davidson, as well as FRIEDMAN’s first songwriting collaboration with Jason Becker since the pair played together in Cacophony, the pioneering duo of guitar mayhem.
In addition, “Inferno” breaks all genre rules and creates new ones with an exhilarating and musically daring mash-up with Jørgen Munkeby of the acclaimed “blackjazz” act Shining, as well as two tracks featuring vocals by rock guru Danko Jones. Overall, “Inferno” is by far FRIEDMAN’s most thrilling and adventurous effort to date. The full track listing is as follows:
1. Inferno
2. Resin
3. Wicked Panacea (feat. Rodrigo y Gabriela)
4. Steroidhead (feat. Keshav Dhar)
5. I Can’t Relax (feat. Danko Jones)
6. Meat Hook (feat. Jørgen Munkeby)
7. Hyper Doom
8. Sociopaths (feat. David Davidson)
9. Lycanthrope (feat. Alexi Laiho & Danko Jones)
10. Undertow
11. Horrors (co-written by Jason Becker)
12. Inferno -reprise-
“Steroidhead” – hailed by Rolling Stone as a “mix of searing solos and chugging prog-metal riffs” – was unveiled last month prior to the annual NAMM convention, where FRIEDMAN introduced a new Paul Reed Smith signature series guitar and performed live before capacity crowds at the PRS and Roland/Boss demonstration booths. Check it out here:
“I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve done with Cacophony and Megadeth, but I was never interested in looking back or stopping there,” FRIEDMAN says. “‘Inferno’ is the album that fans of my work with those two bands have always wanted me to make. I’ve finally made it, and completely on my own maniacal terms.”
FRIEDMAN will kick off a world tour for “Inferno” in May, when he teams with Gus G for a European tour. Dates are listed below. Soon after, FRIEDMAN will return to America for his first tour of his home country in more than a decade. Stay tuned for further information.

As reported on the KISS Facebook page, on February 23rd, 2014:
ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME STATEMENT FROM KISS
To All Our Fans In Regards To The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
Out of respect, Ace and Peter’s recent statements demand a quick response to you, our fans.
Our intention was to celebrate the entire history of KISS and give credit to all members including present long time members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and additionally Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr all who have made this band what it is, regardless of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s point of view.
Although KISS has moved forward far longer without them, Ace and Peter are at the very foundation of what we have built and this would all be impossible had they not been a part of it in the beginning.
It is over 13 years since the original lineup has played together in make-up and we believe the memory of those times would not be enhanced. Contrary to claims made through the media we have never refused to play with Ace and Peter.
We have spent 40 years dedicated to building KISS without quitting or wavering as the band has moved forward with huge tours and platinum albums through different important lineups for forty years, to this day.
KISS has always been a band unlike any other. That is why we started KISS. That is why we continue KISS. Being unlike other bands also means making choices and decisions unlike other bands.
This is understandably an emotional situation where there is no way to please everyone.
To bring this to a quick end, we have decided not to play in any line-up and we will focus our attention on celebrating our induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
We are excited and are looking forward to seeing you all on the KISS 40th Anniversary worldwide tour.
The 2014 edition of SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL looks to be INCREDIBLE! Black Sabbath!! Check out the bands listed below! WHOA! I even see… W.A.S.P, TNT and Ted Nugent in the middle of all those glorious bands! Canned Heat and Foghat are on the bill! Amazing! Great headliners for each day! Heck, Megadeth, Rob Zombie and Emperor are there and they’re not even headlining! WHOA again!
Dokken vocalist Don Dokken has released his long out of print solo album SOLITARY in digital format for the first time. The release is available exclusively on Amazon.com at THIS LOCATION.
SOLITARY was sold exclusively at live shows, primarily on a small run of acoustic dates that Don Dokken performed while opening for Queensryche.

Band Announces Record Release Shows Featuring Special Guests

Danish instrumental Noise Rock duo, FOSSILS, is ready to distribute their second album — the pounding, utterly intense, Flesh Hammer, set for worldwide disbursement on March 3rd via Indisciplinarian.
Consisting of ten precise, noisy and ever-entertaining no-bullshit pieces of music in twenty minutes, FOSSILS‘ succinctly pulverizing Flesh Hammer was created by a band that has refined their trademarks of thunderous riffs and stomping grooves side-by-side with complex rhythms, pouring out their unique, stripped-down brand of instrumental, noisy rock firmly rooted in punk, metal and hardcore. Flesh Hammer was produced by Danish sound-enigma Q (Beta Satan, Entombed), and will see worldwide release via digital download as well as 12″ LP limited to 300 copies.
Preorders for the vinyl are now live; internationally order direct from the Indisciplinarian web shop HERE, while Earsplit Distro is carrying the LP for North America with preorders available HERE.
In-studio videos of FOSSILS‘ recording sessions, featuring actual live takes and mixes found onFlesh Hammer, have been leaked out over the past several weeks. So far five full tracks have been released, including, “Critical Mass,” “Cat Stalker,” “Stun,” “Spamtastic” and “Crack Horse.”
The release Flesh Hammer will be celebrated with two Danish release shows, at Radar in Aarhus on February 28th and at Beta in Copenhagen, on March 1st. In the unconventional spirit of FOSSILS, these will not simply be “typical” release shows with the usual canapés and support bands, but instead an overload of awesome musical guests will be involved in each of the performances, not at least at the Aarhus gig where the program is quite overwhelming. Aarhus will see the resurrection of FOSSILS‘ old band, the local high-octane rock n’ roll heroes, Studson playing a sweet set of oldies but goodies. Then FOSSILS will mutate into their own doom version, Slissof, covering an old Cola Freaks-classic with several guests from Cola Freaks, Rising and Studson. Hereafter, FOSSILS will perform Flesh Hammer from beginning to end, and finally the dynamic duo concludes the show when joined by numerous vocalists such as Jacob Bredahl (The Kandidate, ex-HateSphere) and Kim Kix (Powersolo) who will interpret various FOSSILS compositions from earlier releases. In Copenhagen FOSSILS will play a more straight-up set and special guests will be the aforementioned Studson, and a second band yet to be announced.
Los Angeles, Feb. 11, 2014 – Tweak Bird, the Los Angeles duo featuring brothers Ashton and Caleb Bird, return with their third full-length album, Any Ol’ Way, on May 20 via Let’s Pretend Records.
“We set out to write an album that meant something to us,” explained the Bird brothers. “We wanted to voice our opinions and feel comfortable. We hired our dear old friend, David Allen to engineer and co-produce, which helped us explore new sounds and develop unfinished ideas. We believe in peace, marijuana, individual freedoms and not taking ourselves too seriously. This just happened to be what came out.”
The 11-track album was recorded at King Size Sound Labs in Los Angeles and is self-described by the pair as having the feel of “a movie from the nineties, that takes place in the seventies.”
Tweak Bird’s most recent full-length, a 2010 self-titled album, was followed by Undercover Crops, a seven-song EP released in 2012, which Noisey called “heavy yet blissful stoner-psych rock”

Upcoming Tweak Bird tour dates:
Feb. 26 Los Angeles, CA Scion Rock Show @ The Satellite
Feb. 28 Ventura, CA Bombay Bar
Additional tour dates will be announced soon.

Most Comprehensive Collection Ever from World’s Top Rock Instrumental Guitarist Includes 14 Studio Albums plus New “Added Creations and Bonus Tracks” Compilation
Satriani Inks New Multi-Album Deal with Legacy for Future Recordings
_______________________________
February 6, 2014 – New York, NY – Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Joe Satriani: The Complete Studio Recordings, a 15 CD library box housing the rock guitar virtuoso’s most comprehensive anthology ever, on Tuesday, April 22 (http://smarturl.it/sat_complete_amzn).
Joe Satriani: The Complete Studio Recordings will also be available as a collectible limited edition USB drive exclusively on satriani.com.
One of the most influential and respected instrumental rock guitarists to emerge in the past three decades, Joe Satriani is that rare “musician’s musician” who’s crossed over into the mainstream with music sublime and complex, appealing to a wide variety of tastes.
A true master of the six-string, Satriani worked as a guitar teacher in his early career, with a number of his students—among them Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Larry LaLonde, David Bryson (Counting Crows), Charlie Hunter and more—achieving their own considerable successes.
While in considerable demand as a sideman throughout his career—he’s toured with Mick Jagger, Deep Purple and many others—Satriani has pursued his own musical vision over the years through a series of instrumental rock albums (many of them Grammy nominated) which chronicle his evolution as an artist and his eloquence as a guitarist.
__________________________
All 14 of Joe Satriani’s landmark studio albums, from Not of This Earth (his 1986 debut) through Unstoppable Momentum (2013’s masterpiece), are included in the new collection alongside “Added Creations and Bonus Tracks,” a newly-curated anthology disc of rare compositions and performances falling outside the purview of Satriani’s official album canon, and Surfing with the Alien, 1987’s platinum-selling breakout.
“When the good people at Legacy approached me with the idea of a comprehensive box set featuring my studio recordings in their entirety, plus bonus tracks, all re-mastered, I answered with a resounding, ‘YES!,'” said Joe Satriani. “The only person who could pull this all together logistically and sonically was mastering engineer John Cuniberti. John and I have recorded quite a bit of music together going way back to the early ’80’s. I’ve made more records with John engineering and co-producing than anyone else, so, who better to help me put this box set together the right way? His attention to detail has made this project exciting, illuminating and ultimately awesome sounding. ”
Joe Satriani: The Complete Studio Recordings presents brand-new digital masters, overseen by Joe Satriani, with each CD packaged in a replica cardboard jacket. The library collection is housed in a specially designed clamshell box with a booklet filled with photos and memorabilia from across the decades.
Joe Satriani: The Complete Studio Recordings is the ideal audio accompaniment to “Strange Beautiful Music: A Musical Memoir,” Satriani’s autobiography (benbellabooks.com), also coming in April.
__________________________
A tireless performer who draws strength and inspiration from live shows, Satriani is consistently one of the world’s top concert draws. He is a core member of the rock supergroup Chickenfoot (with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith) as well as founder of the highly successful G3 tours, each teaming Satriani with a pair of top-flight guitarists with shows often featuring special guest artists and other musical surprises. A nearly annual event, G3 launched in 1996 with Steve Vai and Eric Johnson and has showcased a wide variety of axemen over the years including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Yngwie Malmsteen, Robert Fripp, John Petrucci, Steve Morse, Neal Schon, Brian May, Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather and many others. Most recently, the G3 tour played South America in 2012.
Over his career, Joe Satriani has earned 15 Best Rock Instrumental Performance Grammy nominations alongside Platinum (Surfing With The Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream) and Gold (Surfing With The Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream, The Extremist, Time Machine) certifications for his solo recordings. He also racked up Gold and Platinum certifications for the DVD Live in San Francisco and 2 G3 DVDs G3 Live and Live in Denver.
Satriani is extending his decades-long relationship with Sony Music, signing a new multi-album deal with Legacy for future recordings.
Joe Satriani: The Complete Studio Recordings Includes:
1986 Not of This Earth
1987 Surfing with the Alien

US-based Prog Rock/Metal outfit CORSAIR has launched a campaign with Kickstarter.com to help fund the band’s upcoming European tour. In exchange for your support, the band is offering a wide selection of music, merch, personalized messages & photos, music lessons, personal performances and more. The purposed tour itinerary would have the band trekking across the European countryside from February 20 – March 16. Details and a complete rundown of expenses and perks can be found at the link below.
After five years together, two EPs (Alpha Centauri 2010, Ghosts of Proxima Centauri 2011) and a full length (Corsair 2012) CORSAIR was picked up by Shadow Kingdom Records in 2012. By mid-2013, SKR had re-released all of the band’s material and the Berlin-based High Roller Records was slated to press their entire catalogue on vinyl. This garnered the band much attention from reviewers and magazines all over the world, bringing high praise and features in publications such as Decibel Magazine (U.S), Rock Hard Magazine (Germany) and Terrorizer Magazine (U.K.). CORSAIR is currently hard at work prepping for their upcoming European tour and have plans to tour the U.S. and record a new album upon return. For more on CORSAIR, visit the links below.
Born out of the hot embers of Charlottesville, VA’s Black Sabbath annual tribute band, Mass Sabbath, CORSAIR formed in early 2008 with the purpose of writing progressive rock that would transcend space and time. Having endured the intensive training of Mass Sabbath and most recently, Spinal Tap, Corsair has emerged with calloused fingers and a united, unbending will to unleash new-found guitharmony powers onto the world of rock. Think Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden and King Crimson.

Praise for CORSAIR:
“The Ghosts of Proxima Centauri are plenty haunting, and one gets the sense that Corsair have the means to make the most of their growth in the time to come. Hope to catch them at Beta Centauri or coming to a star system near you.” TheObelisk.net
“At the intersection of Clutch, Thin Lizzy and Hawkwind lies Corsair, with their beautifully vintage guitar tones, emphasis on often-harmonized leads and solos, drifting and yet energetic prog-jam tendencies, and hints of hazy psychedelia.” – Last Rites
“Ghosts of Proxima Centauri is unique work I can’t recommend highly enough – I mean, Slough Feg, Falcon AND ELO?? Get outta here! Great, unique sound, ‘Adventure Rock’ supreme!!” – Hellride Music
I stopped by my local Buyback$ (used CD/video/gaming) store last weekend, while searching for used Queen CD’s. I didn’t find any Queen; instead I found and bought the King Biscuit Flower Hour/Best Of The Best – 25 Years Of Rock. I couldn’t resist grabbing this CD right away, for I grew up listening to the King Biscuit Flower Hour and have fond memories of listening to the live concerts that this iconic FM radio show sponsored. Heck, the King Biscuit Flower Hour introduced my ears to full-length live concerts, well before I went to a real live concert! Good times.
From 7th grade through my high school years, (1978 – 1984) the King Biscuit Flower Hour introduced to me many, many Classic Rock bands that I still listen to today. From Genesis to Triumph, with America and The Kinks in-between, this CD not only takes me back on memory lane… this CD flat-out Rocks! There are 16 songs, with 16 different Classic Rock bands represented, in all of their live glory! A solid and honest production, a crisp (and often raw) sound creates an honest-to-goodness live feel which overflows from this whiz-bang CD!
Isn’t it funny, how back in the 70’s and into the 80’s the genre of Classic Rock really didn’t exist yet? Now we all group these bands and their songs into Classic Rock. Hilarious. Um, not really. This all really means I’m getting old. Then again, if my memory serves me correct, the songs from the 50’s and 60’s were called The Golden Oldies back in the 80’s. Um, yeah.
I paid $3.99 (U.S.) for this used CD. The record label is none other than: King Biscuit Flower Hour Records. The release year is printed on the actual CD as: 1998. You can buy this CD on Amazon.com; where I’ve seen 3 used copies for sale, ranging in price from $3.46 to $26.25 (U.S.). I absolutely love this CD, with The Kinks Lola, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Call Me The Breeze and Carry On Wayward Son from Kansas being grand highlights for me. The liner notes are fabulous, with 4 color and black & white band pics, a tidy history of this legendary live radio show, plus testimonials.
There is, actually, We Will Rock You by (of course) Queen on this CD, therefore, I did find Queen on this trip to Buyback$ after all. Good times. Metal be thy name. – Stone
The track list is as follows and it’s a dandy:
01 – Genesis – That’s All
02 – Queen – We Will Rock You
03 – The Who – Won’t Get Fooled Again
04 – Foreigner – Cold As Ice
05 – Kansas – Carry On Wayward Son
06 – Lynyrd Skynyrd – Call Me The Breeze
07 – Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Lucky Man
08 – Rush – Limelight
09 – Pat Benatar – Hit Me With Your Best Shot
10 – The Kinks – Lola
11 – America – Horse With No Name
12 – Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Takin’ Care Of Business
13 – Billy Squier – The Stroke
14 – Rick Derringer – Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo
15 – Triumph – Allied Forces
16 – Blondie – One Way Or Another

LONG LIVE THE LEGACY OF THE KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR.
Def Leppard announce the release of a Deluxe Edition of their 1996 classic album Slang across multiple formats on 11 February.
The Slang reissue will be available in 3 formats: a CD Deluxe Edition and Digital Edition containing the original 11 album tracks re-mastered and original rare bonus tracks made up of demos, alternate versions and mixes with a series of new songs recorded during the time the band was creating Slang. Most of these additional bonus tracks have never been released. A special iTunes Digital Edition will have everything from the Digital Edition, plus a further set of additional bonus tracks. A Double Vinyl Deluxe Edition will also be available and will feature the original album, and its own set of exclusive songs.
The band will release a special Slang Video Collection the same day (February 11th) exclusively on iTunes that will feature videos from singles “Slang,” “Work It Out,” and “All I’ve Ever Wanted.”
Slang was first released in May 1996 and is considered the band’s most underrated album. At the time of its release, the music industry was at the height of the 90s grunge scene and Def Leppard with bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam were dominating the airwaves. Despite this musical shift, Slang charted on the Top Five UK Official Chart and the Top 15 in the US on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart, plus the UK rock magazine Q named the project as one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year.
As a testament to their music transcending through time, Slang was recognized for its musical departure from the band’s signature sound. The collection incorporated new sonic elements that gave the album a slightly darker introspective mood than their previous releases. As Phil Collen stated in an interview with Metal Hammer UK, “We’ve all got personal things that have happened during the recording of Slang, and we’ve just ploughed on and some of it has come out on the record.”
