We’re happy to announce the signing of Sweden’s Heavy Metal quartet CRYSTAL EYES!
The story of CRYSTAL EYES began back in 1992, when Mikael Dahl and Niclas Karlsson formed the band to keep the legacy of Heavy Metal set in the 80’s by bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath.
During the mid 90’s, the band built a strong underground reputation with the release of 4 demo tapes.
The debut album “World Of Black And Silver” was released in 1999, followed by “In Silence They March” in 2000 both via CLM. Both albums received great reviews.
“Vengeance Descending” hit the stores in 2003, released on Heavy Fidelity, and led to CRYSTAL EYES playing at the Sweden Rock Festival in the same year. Mikael handed over the microphone to Daniel Heiman, who was featured as new vocalist on the band’s 4th album “Confessions Of The Maker” (2005).
Also in 2005, CRYSTAL EYES returned to Sweden Rock as opening act. This gig was the only one with Daniel on vocals, who was then replaced by Søren Nico Adamsen in late 2005.
The two following albums “Dead City Dreaming” (2006) and “Chained” (2008) were both mixed by Fredrik Nordström, with whom the band once again worked on the upcoming album.
Søren Nico Adamsen left the band in 2009 and Mikael took over the microphone again.
CRYSTAL EYES celebrated the band’s 20th anniversary in 2012 with special gigs including former band members and songs from every record. In the past decades, CRYSTAL EYES also supported bands like Blind Guardian, Yngwie Malmsteen and Candlemass.
CRYSTAL EYES’ new album “Killer” is set to be released later this year via Massacre Records!
BEHEMOTH – There’s no question that the tenth studio album, The Satanist, from Poland’s BEHEMOTH has made a lasting Metal impact upon the Metal masses. I see this current album/digital chart success as a telling reminder to the status-quo mainstream: that quality Metal exists and will never say die! Both the commendable Metal and artwork of The Satanist, coupled with BEHEMOTH’s (ever-growing) loyal fan base have made a profound Metal statement during this month of February.
Album chart success for an Extreme Metal band is not an example of selling-out; instead it’s an example of the Metal cream rising to the top. Hard work and dedication to one’s craft shall pay dividends; in the case of BEHEMOTH, the Metal dividends are (in my opinion) well-earned. This recent chart success for BEHEMOTH also means that their fans have spoken and spent their hard-earned money on The Satanist, while any illegal downloaders can march straight into the douche-bag posers lounge and drink stale prune juice.
The Satanist was released in North America, via Metal Blade Records on February 4th. Below you will see the chart numbers for both the U.S. and Canada. This information was posted on the BEHEMOTH! Facebook page, on February 12th. – Stone

SAINTS OF REBELLION is ready to release their brand of ‘fusion rock’ to the world. The band completed their debut release, which combines both retro and current musical styling’s into a fusion of in-your-face rock and roll. For the past 8 months, SAINTS OF REBELLION has been in various rehearsal and recording studios from Maryland to Florida writing, preparing and refining their music.
In January 2014, SAINTS OF REBELLION entered The Recovery Room in Conway, AR with producer Ty Sims to record their debut album titled ‘New American Dream’. A future release date will be announced with a late March release expected. ‘New American Dream’ will consist of 8 tracks:
In recognition of that holiest of holy days, Record Store Day, the masked mutants in GHOUL are releasing Hang Ten, a limited edition six-song (mostly) instrumental 10″ EP. Featuring guest vocals from Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan) as Henchman #1 and the inimitable R.A. MacLean (ex-Deadbolt) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir.
Hang Ten was recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland (birthing home of Splatterhash, Splatterthrash and Transmission Zero), mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering and sports cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine.
Surely an anomaly in GHOUL‘s catalog, the EP features songs written exclusively in their unique brand of surf metal the quartet has previously only dabbled in. Hang Ten picks up right whereTransmission Zero left off, relaying the tale of a Creepsylvania in tatters, and the terrible power struggle that ensues between two vicious motorcycle gangs. Noted Cambridge University musical anthropologist Dr. Mantle Bannister PhD had this to say about this odd assortment of tenebrous tunes: “Why, it’s quite remarkable. I’ve never heard the like. Is it surf? Not quite. Is it metal? Maybe. Is it jazz? No, that’s a stupid question, unfit for a real life noted musical anthropologist such as myself. It’s from Creepsylvania, you say? Ghastly country. Absolutely crawling with gypsies. Say, old chap, who let you in to my office?”
Hang Ten 10″ Track Listing:
1. The Midnight Ride of the Cannibals MC
2. Kreeg
3. Sidehackers
4. Hang Ten
5. Blood on the Street
6. It Was a Very Good Year
Hang Ten will be released on April 19, 2014 via Tankcrimes Records. Peep the artwork at THIS LOCATION.
In related news, GHOUL will headline the first night of this year’s edition of Brainsqueeze Fest. Set to take place April 18th and 19th at the Oakland Metro and April 20th at Eli’s Mile High Club, which will include BBQ and an Andrei Bouzikov art show, the mammoth event features more than a dozen acts including Municipal Waste, Final Conflict, Negative Approach. Fucked Up and Cannabis Corpse as well as a gaggle of new Tankcrimes releases to be revealed in the coming weeks! Get your riot gear ready. For more info, point your browser HERE.
Further GHOULish missives to be unearthed in the coming days. Until then, wither.

Night Sacrifice (Demo MMXII) from Chilean traditional heavy metallers, LUCIFER’S HAMMER, is available now digitally on Shadow Kingdom Records. A cassette tape version is tentatively set for a mid-February release; the exact date will be announced soon. Shadow Kingdom Records’ Tim McGrogan had this to say about the release:
“Shadow Kingdom Records is proud to introduce from the land of Chile, Lucifer’s Hammer! This is very reminiscent of rare ’80s US metal gems like SALEM’S WYCH, GRIFFIN, HEATHEN’S RAGE, DAMIEN THORNE, etc. Also more-well known acts like IRON MAIDEN, ’80s JUDAS PRIEST play a huge role in the development of their sound. They’re one of those rare new bands that could actually fool people into thinking they’re an obscure Heavy Metal act from the ’80s that fell beneath the cracks. Luckily for all of us, they’re a brand new band just starting out and they have a lot of good songs in them. ‘Night Sacrifice (Demo MMXIII)’ is the very first of many releases to come. Check out this amazing band!”

Danish instrumental Noise Rock duo, FOSSILS, is ready to distribute their second album — the pounding, utterly intense, Flesh Hammer, set for worldwide disbursement on March 3rd via Indisciplinarian.
Consisting of ten precise, noisy and ever-entertaining no-bullshit pieces of music in twenty minutes, FOSSILS‘ succinctly pulverizing Flesh Hammer was created by a band that has refined their trademarks of thunderous riffs and stomping grooves side-by-side with complex rhythms, pouring out their unique, stripped-down brand of instrumental, noisy rock firmly rooted in punk, metal and hardcore. Flesh Hammer was produced by Danish sound-enigma Q (Beta Satan, Entombed), and will see worldwide release via digital download as well as 12″ LP limited to 300 copies.
Preorders for the vinyl are now live; internationally order direct from the Indisciplinarian web shop HERE, while Earsplit Distro is carrying the LP for North America with preorders available HERE.
In-studio videos of FOSSILS‘ recording sessions, featuring actual live takes and mixes found onFlesh Hammer, have been leaked out over the past several weeks. So far five full tracks have been released, including, “Critical Mass,” “Cat Stalker,” “Stun,” “Spamtastic” and “Crack Horse.”
The release Flesh Hammer will be celebrated with two Danish release shows, at Radar in Aarhus on February 28th and at Beta in Copenhagen, on March 1st. In the unconventional spirit of FOSSILS, these will not simply be “typical” release shows with the usual canapés and support bands, but instead an overload of awesome musical guests will be involved in each of the performances, not at least at the Aarhus gig where the program is quite overwhelming. Aarhus will see the resurrection of FOSSILS‘ old band, the local high-octane rock n’ roll heroes, Studson playing a sweet set of oldies but goodies. Then FOSSILS will mutate into their own doom version, Slissof, covering an old Cola Freaks-classic with several guests from Cola Freaks, Rising and Studson. Hereafter, FOSSILS will perform Flesh Hammer from beginning to end, and finally the dynamic duo concludes the show when joined by numerous vocalists such as Jacob Bredahl (The Kandidate, ex-HateSphere) and Kim Kix (Powersolo) who will interpret various FOSSILS compositions from earlier releases. In Copenhagen FOSSILS will play a more straight-up set and special guests will be the aforementioned Studson, and a second band yet to be announced.
Northeastern Ohio’s HOMEWRECKER has just released a video for “Skin The Pig,” a brand new demo track the band recently recorded with their newly revamped lineup.
Having scaled their squad from a quintet with a vocalist down to a quartet with the drummer and guitarist dividing vocal duties, HOMEWRECKER recorded the track as an introduction to the new lineup, and to help fill the gap between their 2012-released Worms & DirtLP and next official release later this year. As proven on their previous recordings, the band’s enraged hardcore is jacked-up on death and grindcore elements and delivered at decimating, tuned-down levels.
The overhauled band now unloads an even tighter display of relentless d-beat and blast-infused guttural torment which was present in their recent set at A389’s tenth anniversary Bash, and is now blatant in “Skin The Pig.” The music for the video was recorded by band cohort Thomas Tadsen in Cleveland in December, the video was shot by Todd Thompson.
Check out the new video hosted via Toxicbreed’s Funhouse below:
Full video sets from HOMEWRECKER’s A389 X Bash set have also been posted by Hate5Six HERE and Metal Injection’s Pit Full of Shit HERE.
HOMEWRECKER will enter Developing Nations Studio with Kevin Bernsten in mid-April to record their sophomore LP, now confirmed with the title Circle of Death, for Summer release via A389, who also released Worms & Dirt. The band is also booking tours for the Spring and Summer months and will be pulling weekend warrior attacks in the interim, with participation in Berserker Fest in Ferndale, Michigan with Macabre, Wolf Eyes, Ringworm and more the first weekend of February, Fire Fest in Cleveland, Ohio on April 19th with Ringworm, Weekend Nachos and Death Before Dishonor and more confirmed.
(Los Angeles, CA) Legendary lead guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN – whose performances on landmark releases such as “Rust In Peace” (Megadeth), “Speed Metal Symphony” (Cacophony) and “Dragon’s Kiss” (his influential solo debut) have earned him hall-of-fame status in the heavy metal guitar pantheon, has unveiled the first full track from his upcoming studio album,Inferno. The brand new song “Steroidhead” can be streamed below:
“Steroidhead” sees FRIEDMAN backed by some notable young musicians —Keshav Dhar and Anup Sastry (Skyharbor). Says FRIEDMAN, “I love working with innovative, risky and borderline crazy musicians, and the guys on ‘Steroidhead’ certainly fit that description. Each track on the album has a separate dream team on it, so it feels like a constant barrage of fresh interpretations of my music.”
Due in May, Inferno — the cover art for which appears above — is FRIEDMAN‘s first solo album of original material in four years, and his first recording in more than a decade that will be released worldwide simultaneously. Featuring what he describes as the heaviest, most intense playing of his career, the album will feature guest appearances by several artists influenced by FRIEDMAN, including Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), flamenco/metal acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and Revocation’s David Davidson. In addition, Inferno includes FRIEDMAN‘s first songwriting collaboration with Jason Becker since the pair played together in Cacophony, the pioneering duo of guitar mayhem.
In other news, FRIEDMAN will appear at this week’s NAMM trade show in Anaheim, Calif., where he will officially introduce his new Paul Reed Smith MARTY FRIEDMAN Signature Model guitar. He will also play a brief solo live set at the Roland/Boss booth and perform at the “Randy Rhoads Remembered” NAMM after-party/concert.

Apostasy Records welcomes new blood to the family…
Barcelona-based ultra thrashers CRISIX have signed with Apostasy Records, becoming the first thrash metal act to join the label’s roster. With their 2011 album, The Menace the quintet released an outstanding debut full of hard-driving riffs and feisty vocals; a cocktail that feeds every pit. The band’s latest, Rise…Then Rest, was mixed and mastered by none other than Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, et. al.). Previously available in Spain only, Apostasy Records will release this masterpiece across the UK, Europe and North America. More details to come.

SLAVE ZERO – Back on November 10th, 2013, Ireland’s SLAVE ZERO released their EP: Disambiguated Visionary. Man, it’s a killer and I’m not exaggerating one minuscule bit. This fantastically talented Metal band utilizes the elements of Death Metal, Grindcore, Hardcore and Progressive Metal in such a grand fashion that it scorches my brain! Hell yes, SLAVE ZERO can easily be tagged as an Extreme Metal juggernaut.
To say this release is a MUST for fans of the heaviest Metal genres known is a gross understatement. ALL underground and Extreme Metal fans should be required to own this EP from SLAVE ZERO. My eyes nearly pop out of my skull, as I listen to all 5 songs on Disambiguated Visionary; honestly, that’s what it feels like! How can I explain it any better than that?
The vocals are psychotic, guttural, demonic and blistering, so choose your favorite or all of the above! Musically, this EP is an explosion of Metal sound that ripped into my face and left me hitting the repeat button for more self-inflicted Metal battery. Lightning fast Metal, Extreme, Grinding and insanely addicting is this EP and SLAVE ZERO are to be reckoned with. Metal be thy name.
* SLAVE ZERO were formed back in 2000 and have shared the Metal stage with Metal warriors the likes of: Hatebreed, Exodus, Cephalic Carnage, Soilent Green, Cattle Decapitation and Desecration.

Six Feet Under founding throat/Death Metal icon, Chris Barnes, is pleased to bring fans his latest work of sonic deviance in the form of the fittingly christened, IHATE. A venture inadvertently launched between Barnes and multi-instrumentalist/fellow horror enthusiast Bob Taggett, their as-yet-untitled debut promises to deliver eight violent tracks of raw, unrepentant, Death Metal brutality and lyrical depravity.
Relays Barnes of the project’s formation, “Early last year I got a message via Facebook from someone named Bob and Bob said to me, as a lot of people do, ‘I have some songs and I’d like you to sing on them. Can I send you a song so you could check it out?’ I get a lot of these requests and didn’t think too much of it, but since I was just fresh back from a tour and a little bored, I decided to entertain the idea of listening to a song from Bob. After receiving an email with the first track that was attached to a video which more or less mapped out a murder storyline, I thought it was really different, and definitely creepy visually. And there was something very primitive and energetic to the attack of the music. It was very driven. I could feel it instantly. I knew this wasn’t a joke and wasn’t done half-assed. The music I was listening to was aggressive as a knife carving chunks of flesh off a body. Putting the music to a video caught my attention, immediately, as to Bob’s focus. I found it all really interesting. I have almost always worked from a storyline in my head for my lyrical inspiration and my own imagination, but never have started from the standpoint of lyrically scoring a storyline already laid out on video first, like scoring a film. That seemed really exciting to me as a writer as well as a vocalist. I emailed Bob back and told him I would love to be involved with making this album with him. So one thing led to another and we began writing and recording. We are very close to finishing the album and have enlisted the good people at Pledge Music to help us reach out to all of the fans who we hope will help us make this album a reality.”
As for what true death metal miscreants can expect from the IHATE end product? “To me, it really is a masterpiece of brutal, violent death metal,” says Barnes, “I’m really stoked that if got to work on this album. The fans know that I’m no stranger to writing some sick lyrics, but the stuff I have come up with this time is entirely over-the-top even by my standards. I really want the fans to hear this album and dig into the storylines of the songs. This is the first time I’ve used crowd-funding to make and release an album. And it’s been a very challenging, interesting learning experience along the way. And an eye-opener as well. We are really hoping the fans of death metal will make a pledge and preorder our new album. It’s really important to us that this album gets released. This is brutal as fuck.”
Check out more from Barnes as well as a preview of the track “Seeing Red” at THIS LOCATION.
Several IHATE preorder packages, which include autographed posters and CDs as well as a chance to have a personal listening session with Barnes himself, are available via Pledge Music. For more info, point your browser HERE. Further IHATE info to be announced shortly.
On this day, January 21st, I hereby declare my State Of The METAL Address for 2014.

My fellow Metal brethren, as you read this, Metal is very much alive and well. Across the continents, Metal is still a tried and true force that we uphold to the highest degree and the non-believers must acknowledge as real; for we Metalheads, hell rats, underground dwellers, children of the night and maggots are MANY. Metal bands everywhere are continuing to dominate the clubs, both above and underground, with their Metal musical messages. Metal has and will continue to slam into the mainstream album charts; thus proving there are commercial outlets that cannot fully reject the truth, power and loyalty behind Metal.
Around the globe, Metal festivals both on land and sea are currently being planned and/or already have sold out for the 2014 festival season. The underground Metal scene is perhaps bigger, badder and more determined than ever before. Without the underground, there is no Metal future and our Metal backbone shall cease to exist. With media outlets such as Bandcamp, SoundCloud and YouTube, there has never been an easier time in our Metal history to get the Metal doctrine out to the masses; by sharing for free, the sacred sounds of Metal. Underground Metal must continue to invade and dominate these media platforms and look upon this technology as an asset to Metal.

I want to thank each and every musician and band of Metal that breathes today. You should ALL be very proud, however, your work is not yet done; continue onward with the drive and passion of our glorious Metal founders and pioneers and let your Metal be known. I want to thank each and every record label, blogger and PR agency that is dedicated to the exposure and marketing of Metal. Let us NEVER forget our said founders and pioneers of Metal; for our Metal existence is due to their gifted talents, influence and of course… bravery.
My fellow Metal brethren, do not take any shit from any naysayer, while still being kind to thy fellow Metalhead and stranger alike. Continue to hail Metal; for if you are loyal to Metal, Metal shall be loyal to you. Using the iconic Black Sabbath debut album from 1970 as a starting point for the timeline of Metal, our beloved genre is now in its fifth decade of existence. We are not going away.
We are strong. We are one. We are METAL.
METAL BE THY NAME.
Let us all remember that Mother Earth is to be respected and not used like a throw-away item. Our vast Metal community can make a difference to the ecology and climate of our planet.

Rock legend George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob) and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Mark Mclaughlin are currently working together on Shadowtrain: Under a Crooked Sky, a stirring documentary that explores a hybrid way of life merging modern society with the ancient practices of people who have lived in harmony with the land for thousands of years; native American Indians.
The film follows Lynch and drummer/activist/artist Vincent Nicastro as they visit different reservations around the American Southwest with a trailer full of gear and group of musicians to get a firsthand look at effects of modern consumerism on our native population and the steps they’re taking towards sustainability.
While the documentary is nearly complete, the filmmakers are now seeking help in seeing their collective vision come to fruition. In order to see “Shadowtrain” become a reality, Lynch and Mclaughlin have launched an IndieGoGo Flexible Funding campaign where contributions can be made towards the completion of the film in exchange for autographed copies of George Lynch’s most recent release Legacy, guitar lessons, a signed guitar and more. To donate to the making of “Shadowtrain: Under a Crooked Sky” visit the following link below:
A trailer for the film, featuring Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine. The Nightwatchman) and Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), can be seen below:
For more clips from the film and to learn more about the message behind “Shadowtrain: Under a Crooked Sky” and what you can do to help, visit http://www.shadowtrainmovie.com.
When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty…
“Shadowtrain: Under a Crooked Sky” will illuminate the cost of the destruction of the Native American community; to both the indigenous population as well as to their European conquerors. The documentary will reveal the qualities inherent in indigenous people’s world views that should be recognized and adopted if we all, collectively, intend to not only survive, but to find a way to live happier, more meaningful lives. While engaging a wide variety of opinions from notable activists, authors, artists, elders and shaman, politicians and government officials, clergy, teachers and everyday people, the film will reveal its message through a powerful music-driven road trip.
The journey begins as renowned guitarist George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob), drummer, artist and activist Vinnie Nicastro and a musical band of politically engaged musicians climb into an old station wagon in the southwest desert. They pull a vintage horse trailer, retro-fitted to carry band equipment, solar panels, generators and camping gear.
They travel the back roads, searching for a truth that can speak to power. They visit the Apache, Navajo and Hopi reservations in Arizona, Zuni and Tewa in New Mexico, Shoshone in Nevada, Utes in Utah and Colorado and then on to the Dakotas to visit the people and places that were (and still are) the epicenter of conflict between the native peoples and their European conquerors.
The people they visit on the reservations will share how they have created sensible environmentally sustainable solutions that work in today’s world. Simple and proven practices like passive solar water heaters on the Paiute reservation, active community gardens and other ideas will be explored. Then as Shadowtrain moves on to other reservations, they will help to integrate these workable procedures, pick up more ideas and carry them further.
