THE DEAD DAISIES Skull Photos Banned From Facebook!

DAISIES FANS STAND UP TO FACEBOOK IN THE NAME OF ART!

As reported by The Dead Daisies:

As all our Dead Daisies fans know, we love skulls. We endeavour to find the coolest skulls the internet has to offer and share them with everyone on our Facebook page. Last Saturday we posted a photo of a human skull. It was created by seven women covered in body paint, lying down to form the shape of a skull. It was a modern interpretation of Salvador Dali’s masterpiece ‘In Voluptas Mors’.

The photo was a received extremely well, with huge appreciation, only to have it removed by Facebook with their reason being that it “didn’t follow the Facebook Community Standards”.

Not knowing whether Facebook realised that this was in fact an interpretation of Dali’s masterpiece, we then posted an image of the original masterpiece, which included an image of Dali, and asked the fans if they deemed the image to be of offensive/inappropriate nature.

The comments poured in, with thousands of fans sharing their absolute disbelief that such great art was banned. But alas, Facebook stepped in AGAIN, and removed the image, even after all of the support on the post.

We then decided to research these ” Facebook Community Standards”, and came across the following:

After reading this, it is abundantly clear that we have NOT in anyway, breached their guidelines as we have not shared any explicit sexual content, and have shared a significant art piece by one of the greatest artists of our time.

The Dead Daisies are big believers in freedom of speech and do not want to sit quietly while Facebook exercise unjust and inconsistent censorship.

It makes us ask, what should be deemed acceptable and what is unacceptable when there are thousands of images and videos of violence, racism, sexism, and hate that circulate daily?

We want to take a stand for the arts, and we need you to help!!

Today we want everyone to post either of the images we posted on Facebook to their personal or artist page, and use the hashtag #DaisiesLiveForArt.

Let’s rally together (peacefully!), and make a stand for good art!

STYX ‘Paradise Theater’ Album To Be Released On Limited Numbered Hybrid SACD!

Camarillo, CA – Styx fans rejoice with the release of the band’s critically acclaimed album ‘Paradise Theater’ on limited numbered Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity. Styx’s 10th album, the 1981 release, ‘Paradise Theater’ was the band’s fourth consecutive triple-platinum album. A resounding success, ‘Paradise Theater’ was their greatest commercial triumph and their only #1 album. It remains one of the best examples of the convergence between progressive rock and AOR which typified the arena rock sound of the top groups of the late-seventies and early-eighties such as Journey, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick and Kansas.

Styx was a great group of talented musicians – Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, James Young, Chuck Panozzo and John Panozzo. The album included three Billboard Hot 100 hits, “The Best of Times,” “Nothing Ever Goes As Planned” and “Too Much Time on My Hands”, considered among Tommy Shaw’s finest singles ever. Another track, “Rockin’ The Paradise” reached #8 on the Top Rock Track Chart.

The concept album is a fictional account of Chicago’s Paradise Theatre from its opening to closing, used as a metaphor for America’s changing times from the late 1970s into the 1980s.

Shadow Kingdom Records Releasing “The Lost Legacy” 2CD Retrospective From Sweden’s ZONE ZERO On July 8th

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the Release of a 2CD career retrospective package from Swedish ’80s Heavy Metal group ZONE ZERO on July 8th.

Comprised of live recordings, rehearsal tracks and studio cuts – including three more recent songs recorded in 2008 – this collection captures the magic of a band heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but somehow fell through the cracks of that burgeoning scene. Shadow Kingdom Records now seeks to turn the unknown into the known with The Lost Legacy.

Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogran comments on the package:

“It would be a rare case if anyone were even aware of Zone Zero as they only put out one Single and a few demo tapes in the early 80s before disbanding. In the land of early Swedish Heavy Metal, the very first and most important band was without question Heavy Load, who started in the late 70s. With that said, Zone Zero does have a very strong Heavy Load influence and were also influenced by Judas Priest and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. There were quite a few bands that popped up in the early 80’s in Europe that could have easily been a part of the N.W.O.B.H.M. but they weren’t because that period of time only included England. This package includes their entire career, which started in 1980 and includes the band re-uniting for 3 brand new songs that were recorded in 2008.”

LIONS OF TSAVO – Texas Metal/Sludge Trio Continues Spring Tour

Following the release of their Traverser LP via Toxic Assets in November, Austin’s caustic Sludge Metal trio, LIONS OF TSAVO, continue to tour the American landscape in support of the album. The band is currently embarked on their latest trek with another five cities still in its path, including Birmingham, Jackson, Shreveport and Dallas next to get slammed; this week LIONS OF TSAVO plow homeward.

Eviscerating landscapes through blood spitting riffs and mind altering psychedelics, Traverser is both destruction and redemption incarnate; a conceptual album where the music, lyrics and artwork align, and cannot be separated. Washington-based Toxic Assets released the album on CD in November, while a vinyl edition remains on deck for release later in 2014.

CRAVING – Featured In Danish TV Commercial

German Melodic Death/Black Metal band CRAVING are being featured in a TV commercial for Samsung Galaxy S5 on Danish television. The spot is scheduled to run for the next three weeks and features the band’s cover of “Only Teardrops” by Emmelie de Forest. Watch the ad below:

Since 2006, CRAVING has masterfully blended Black and Death metal with soaring melodies and folk influences. In October of last year, Apostasy Records released the band’s sophomore album, At Dawn. With lyrics written in German, Russian and English and a noticeable progression from their 2012 debut, At Dawn stands as one of the most intriguing and varied records in recent memory. Guest appearances on At Dawn include Helge Stang (Ex-Equilibrium), Chris Caffery (Ex-Savatage), Niels Löffler (Ordan Ogan) and Agalaz (Obscurity). SLAYER OFFERS FREE DOWNLOAD, FORMS LABEL IMPRINT, SIGNS EXCLUSIVE WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH NUCLEAR BLAST

SLAYER – At the Revolver Golden Gods Awards held April 23rd, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Slayer surprised the capacity crowd with an unannounced performance, kicking off the show with a three-song set that included the global premiere of Implode, the band’s first new studio recording in five years.

Recorded earlier this month at Henson Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Terry Date and co-produced by Greg Fidelman, “Implode” is now available as a free download as a “thank you” to the band’s fans for their continued support. Or, as Kerry King put it, “you have been waiting for us, now we are delivering for you.” Registered members of Slayer’s fan club were sent an email right around midnight giving them the link to the song and a chance to hear it before it was made public.

“Implode” can now be downloaded at: http://www.slayer.net.

Later this year, the two-time Grammy-winning Slayer will begin recording a new album, tentatively set for an early 2015 release date. The album will make Slayer history as it will be released on Nuclear Blast Records through the band’s own label imprint, closing out a 28-year relationship with Rick Rubin and American Recordings. No name for the imprint has been decided on yet.

“Rick has played a huge role in our career, we’ve made some great albums with him,” said Slayer’s Tom Araya. “But today is a new day, record companies don’t play the kind of role they once did, and we really like the idea of going out on our own, connecting directly with our fans, and Nuclear Blast is fired up about taking on that challenge with us.”

All future recordings on the band’s label imprint will be released worldwide exclusively through Nuclear Blast.

“I was a teenage rebel when ‘Show No Mercy’ came out,” said Markus Staiger, owner of Nuclear Blast, “and I identified with that record. It was the most extreme, aggressive thing at the time. They were then and still are the most brutal metal band on the planet! I really cannot express how proud I am that we are able to work with Slayer to join the Nuclear Blast family. We are ready for that next record and, I’m sure it will go into metal history!”

Added Nuclear Blast label manager Gerardo Martinez: “The prospect of helping Slayer take a leading role in the creative process surrounding their releases, projects and other cross-promotional opportunities is the ultimate honor for me, a metalhead who grew up in Los Angeles listening to Slayer. Nowhere in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Nuclear Blast would be making history alongside one of the best bands in metal.”

Slayer – Tom Araya/vocals, bass, Kerry King/guitar, drummer Paul Bostaph, and Gary Holt who continues to stand in for the band’s founding guitarist, the late Jeff Hanneman – will spend the next few months on the road touring major North American and European festivals as well as headlining dates, sharing the stages with Metallica, Iron Maiden and more (see below), but is expected to be back in the studio in the fall to record the rest of the new album.

SEPREVATION – Release New Music Video ‘Slave To The Grave’

On the run up to the release of their debut album ‘Consumed’, UK Death Thrashers Seprevation today release a music video for ‘Slave To The Grave’.

Guitarist Joss Farrington comments: “The concept was to play on the themes of ‘Slave to the Grave’ and actually give the viewer the visual image of us decaying and covered in gore.”

Let Me Introduce To You, My Shepherd Mix Ozzy And Cat Toby

Ozzy Says… Hey!

It’s April showers here in Southwest Ohio, this morning, as I write these Rockin’ words down. I’m watching my pup Ozzy walk around in front of me, as I sit here working on my laptop. Ozzy is trying to decide which window to look out from, cause he doesn’t want to miss out on his daily ritual of watching the morning happenings on our street. Ozzy is a Shepherd Mix and will turn 3 years old this June. We here at the Metal Odyssey headquarters saved Ozzy from a kill shelter last Summer. Ozzy is his original name too. Pretty cool, huh? This amazing family member of ours only cost $80 (U.S.) to take him home. Incredible.

I’ve always wanted to write about Ozzy and our cat Toby, here on Metal Odyssey; therefore, today is the day! I’ve always given both boys plenty of time on twitter; so they are semi-known around the world! (Me laughing). Ozzy gets along with our 7+ year-old feline, Toby, just fine too. Ozzy and Toby are like long-lost brothers; with Toby acting like the bigger brother more often than not! Seriously, Toby accepted Ozzy into our Metal family from the very beginning and I give him a ton of credit for that.

Toby Says… Hey!

About 6 years ago, we had picked up Toby from his original owner, meeting at the parking lot of The Shoppes Of Premise Maid (chocolates, ice cream and bakery) in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. Toby’s (very nice) former owner insisted on accepting no money, just a loving home in exchange for him. My wife instead gave his former owner a box of chocolates that she bought from The Shoppes Of Premise Maid. Toby had to find a new home due to an allergy problem he caused at his former residence. Yes, there are people who are allergic to cats. It all turned out to be a grand deal in the end for us!

Truth be told, both Ozzy and Toby are the most gentle dudes you could ever want to meet or hang out with. Ozzy does bark like a guard dog at anyone (outside the family) that comes to the front door or enters our house. It’s all good, cause Ozzy eventually figures out that the situation is cool. Both Ozzy and Toby seem to enjoy hearing any of the music and Metal that I listen to; Heavy Metal, it appears, has a calming affect on them! I’m not kidding!

We all love Ozzy and Toby around here and I couldn’t imagine life at Metal Odyssey’s headquarters without them. They are both loyal family members and give back an unconditional love and friendship that money could never buy. It feels good to write a post about Ozzy and Toby. The laughs and joy I get from them both are immeasurable. Then again, Ozzy and Toby are Metalheads! Metal be thy name – Stone

STEVE HARRIS TAKES BRITISH LION BACK ON THE ROAD IN JULY

Steve Harris will be taking his solo/side project British Lion back out on the road briefly this year with a 10 date European tour starting on July 8th in Norwich and rounding off with an open-air show at the annual International Motorcycle Convention at the Moto Clube De Faro, Portugal on Saturday July 19th.

British Lion is Steve’s debut CD outside Iron Maiden. Featured alongside Steve on bass are Richard Taylor on vocals, David Hawkins on guitar and keys, Grahame Leslie on guitar, and Simon Dawson on drums. The album was mixed by Kevin Shirley [Maiden’s longstanding producer] and was released through EMI in September 2012.

Harley’s War Continues… New York Hardcore Legend HARLEY FLANAGAN Recording New LP For Southern Lord

New York Hardcore icon, HARLEY FLANAGAN, is currently in the process of recording his newest LP, to be released on Southern Lord later this year.

With his musical roots tracing back to the beginning of the 1980s, FLANAGAN was involved in NYC punk act, The Stimulators, before even hitting his teens. In the mid-’80s he founded the legendary hardcore/crossover act, The Cro-Mags, directly after which the band releasing their seminal Age Of Quarrel LP. At the beginning of the millennium, the artist formed his own HARLEY’S WAR and released their debut album, Cro-Mag, in 2002.

FLANAGAN and several other players recently started laying down the basic tracks for the impending yet-to-be-named album, which will close the extensive twelve-year gap since the band’s initial works were released, and will undoubtedly be one of the premiere hardcore/punk releases of the year.

Issued FLANAGAN on signing with Southern Lord and the ongoing recording process of the new material: “I think that this is some of the hardest stuff I have written in a long time. God knows there has been a lot of inspiration over the last few years.” Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson this week stated on the upcoming release: “The demos we have heard thus far are incredible! We’re really looking forward to hearing this when it’s completed.”

FLANAGAN is a black belt under Renzo Gracie and teaches at the Renzo Gracie academy in NYC, as well as having a book and several other projects in the works.

California Technical Death Metal faction, INANIMATE EXISTENCE, who feature within their ranks members of Brain Drill and Son Of Aurelius, will unleash their sophomore effort, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement, this Summer via Extreme Metal merchants, Unique Leader Records.

Tracked by Max Zigman (Son Of Aurelius, Smaragos) at Parade Outrageous in Santa Cruz and produced by Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement boasts eight conceptual tracks of progressive punishment.

The follow-up to 2012’s Liberation Through Hearing, which MetalSucks championed for its “erie, psychedelic themes richly animated by the grandiose contrast between shamanic atmosphere and uncompromising brutality,” finds INANIMATE EXISTENCE’s signature, over-the-top compositions elevated to an entirely new level of profundity. Each movement marvels at its own innovative density as intricate guitar structures coil seamlessly around complex rhythms and infernal vocal tirades, all the while maintaining an absorbing magnetism that draws exploratory listeners in with each new measure.

The record includes several guest musicians who offer female vocal accents, clarinet, bass flute, harp, bongos and other nuances to the proceedings, only adding to the record’s already confounding depth.

SCORPIONS “LIVE BITES” – 1995 Album Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

SCORPIONS – Live Bites is a live album, released back in 1995, via Polygram Records. Live Bites contains 11 songs that were recorded in Leningrad, San Francisco, Mexico, Munich and Berlin. There are also 3 (previously unreleased) bonus studio tracks on this album: Edge Of Time, Heroes Don’t Cry and White Dove. The liner notes to this album doesn’t contain the recording dates for these live songs; I have read in a few places the dates are 1988 to 1995, just don’t quote me on these dates.

This is yet another fantastic album from the past where you’ll find some constipated fool out there that gave it a sub-par review. In my Metal opinion, this is the iconic Scorpions and this live album plays out brilliantly! I’ve seen the Scorpions live; trust me, this album gives me ostrich bumps all over my face and arms when played at MAXIMUM volume! Whoa. One very cool aspect about Live Bites is that it was produced to sound and feel like one continuous concert experience, with no breaks between the songs; the sounds of Scorpions fans going bonkers fills the gaps!

The entire band and vocalist Klaus Meine sound sensational throughout Live Bites. There are high energy moments to savor, with Tease Me Please Me, Alien Nation and Crazy World being 3 whiz-bang examples. The bonus studio tracks are such a worthy addition at the time, giving the fans both the heavy and softer side of the Scorpions. Heroes Don’t Cry and White Dove are 2 somber, well written and arranged ballads, while Edge Of Time rocks along quite favorably to my ears. Live Bites is an essential part of Scorpions history, hopefully you’ll share with my Metal enthusiasm! Metal be thy name. – Stone

NOBLE BEAST ANNOUNCE NEW DRUMMER

Minnesota Power Metal master’s Noble Beast are pleased to announce the addition of Andrew Rasmussen as new drummer for the band.

While he is primarily known for his work in Black Metal band Astral Blood, Andrew is excited to be working with the band. He had the following to say about his new role:

“I’m very excited to be joining Noble Beast as their full-time drummer.I have spent many years of my life always playing in more Black Metal type bands so needless to say I was pretty skeptical at first when Rob had originally told me they were searching for a full-time drummer. But then after listening to the four tracks Rob sent me I was blown away! This is new and exciting for me, and I’ve had a fucking blast playing the music.”

The band had the following to say about Andrew and his ascension to the Noble Beast drum throne:

“A lot of things drew us to Andrew—his chops, his easygoing personality, our shared love of Disillusion—but more than anything else, it was his enthusiasm for Noble Beast that made him The Guy. Andrew is just as committed as we are to building Noble Beast’s future. Together, we’re going to make Noble Beast the best band it can be.”

Kaotoxin records is proud to announce the inking of a multi-album deal with French Deathcore masters DEEP IN HATE.

Born in 2004 and having released two full-lengths before signing to Kaotoxin, Deep In Hate, who features Nicolas Basto (ex-Aborted / L’Esprit du Clan) on drums, evolved from a technical Deathcore outfit to a much more personal brand of melodic and catchy, yet still technical, brand of Deathcore. The band’s focus is on writing catchy tunes and developing an oppressive atmosphere by blending dark melodic hooks with technical leads and wall-crushing breakdowns in a very dark, suffocating and yet utterly efficient way.

Touring with the likes of Black Dahlia Murder, appearances at Sonisphere and other European festivals and an inherent desire to push the boundaries of brutality to unimagined levels have all lead Deep In Hate down an evolutionary path that plateaus this June with their Kaotoxin Records debut, Chronicles of Oblivion.

With a massive production and artwork by Above Chaos (Hellfest, Bethlehem, Nightfall), Chronicles of Oblivion features nine heavy and intense, yet melodic song-oriented tracks. Rooted less in tech-metal than previous efforts, Deep In Hate seek to develop a more hook-laden approach to Deathcore. This shift is demonstrated in the new music video they’ve unleashed in support of Chronicles of Oblivion. Recorded live at Sonisphere 2013, the video for “New Republic” can be seen below:

Weedeater, the sludgy NC-trio who Pitchfork said “oozes thick, incidental drones,” played the January installment of The Scion Rock Show in Los Angeles. The Scion Rock Show, a free monthly concert series at The Satellite in Los Angeles, debuted last summer. Other participants include The Melvins’ Buzz Osborne, ASG, Fu Manchu and Indian Handcrafts. Scion Rock Fest returns to Southern California on May 17 with four stages spread across the The Glass House and Fox Theatre in Pomona. Artists appearing at the 2014 installment include Machine Head, High on Fire, Red Fang and Orchid. The event is currently sold out (a wait list is available at ScionAV.com.
