Drain You - promo cover - self-titled - 2016 - #MO667099

DRAIN YOU – During my everyday Metal life, I always get turned on to at least one new band I’ve never heard of before. Today’s band is DRAIN YOU and they’re from Columbus, Ohio. The band’s bass player, Kevin, actually played me their 4 song demo tonight. I became (rather instantly) hooked by the raw onslaught of Post-Punk meets Sludge that DRAIN YOU belts out so freaking well.

Click that bandcamp box below and let Izzy’s vocals give you the cranium slap you’ve been asking for while the Punk noize of DRAIN YOU leaves you in a well-deserved state of sonic shock syndrome. Dig it.

Support DRAIN YOU And Buy Their Music. ‘Nuff Said.

New York Hardcore icon, HARLEY FLANAGAN, is currently in the process of recording his newest LP, to be released on Southern Lord later this year.

With his musical roots tracing back to the beginning of the 1980s, FLANAGAN was involved in NYC punk act, The Stimulators, before even hitting his teens. In the mid-’80s he founded the legendary hardcore/crossover act, The Cro-Mags, directly after which the band releasing their seminal Age Of Quarrel LP. At the beginning of the millennium, the artist formed his own HARLEY’S WAR and released their debut album, Cro-Mag, in 2002.

FLANAGAN and several other players recently started laying down the basic tracks for the impending yet-to-be-named album, which will close the extensive twelve-year gap since the band’s initial works were released, and will undoubtedly be one of the premiere hardcore/punk releases of the year.

Issued FLANAGAN on signing with Southern Lord and the ongoing recording process of the new material: “I think that this is some of the hardest stuff I have written in a long time. God knows there has been a lot of inspiration over the last few years.” Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson this week stated on the upcoming release: “The demos we have heard thus far are incredible! We’re really looking forward to hearing this when it’s completed.”

FLANAGAN is a black belt under Renzo Gracie and teaches at the Renzo Gracie academy in NYC, as well as having a book and several other projects in the works.

The invincible, noiseblasting killing machine, FULL OF HELL, this week confirms a pair of impending offensives upon the humans, including new tour actions and new studio documentation of their tactics.

FULL OF HELL has joined forces with harsh noise entity PSYWARFARE for a special split 12″ constructed for Record Store Day 2014. The A-side of the cooperative assault is overthrown by FULL OF HELL, stripping the hypergrind elements from their barrage, here focusing on their distressing racket/static infiltrations, sampling in choruses, looping feedback and experimenting with more distressing and melodic calls, within the track, “Thee Unsurmountable Wall.” The B-side is encompassed by “The Exotic Sounds Of…,” a mesmerizing twenty-one minute-long, occult mental passage into places unknown courtesy of Dwid Hellion’s PSYWARFARE.

Just days after the RSD split with PSYWARFARE is released, FULL OF HELL will embark on the next phase of their nearly nonstop touring crusade, this week confirming a ten-city East Cost run from April 24th through May 3rd with Toronto powerviolence crew, Column Of Heaven, and Cleveland harsh noise act, Nyodene D.

SATANIC MALFUNCTIONS – UK Hardcore/Punk Act’s First Album In Twenty-Two Years Streaming At Decibel

Posted in hardcore, hardcore punk, Punk rock, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on October 17, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Satanic Malfunctions - Them - promo cover pic

Them, the first LP from UK hardcore punk trio SATANIC MALFUNCTIONS, is out now via Poland’s demolition experts, Selfmadegod Records. Surging with rabid, old-school circle-pit intensity and politically oriented, cynical and pissed-off lyrical tirades, Them dispatches twenty tracks in just over thirty minutes, resulting in one of those “get this now” releases for devotees to acts like Active Minds, Disorder, Doom, Atavistic, Electro Hippies, L’arm and Heresy.

Decibel Magazine is now hosting a full-on stream of the entire Them LP to celebrate its release, joined by a rapid interrogation of SATANIC MALFUNCTIONS’ percussion specialist, Ade. Check it out RIGHT HERE.

Pick Them up via Selfmadegod, who in 2012 also released the SATANIC MALFUNCTIONS Disgrace To Music 2xCD compilation both previous LPs and all EP and compilation tracks. Merch bundles are available now direct from Selfmadegod HERE, and Them is available digitally HERE.

The newest SATANIC MALFUNCTIONS LP since the Scarborough, UK-based act’s 1990-releasedDisgrace To Humanity, the whirlwind of old-school hardcore punk on Them is a throwback to the mid-late ’80s hardcore scene when grindcore was only beginning to take shape. Recorded by Bri Doom, of UK crust legends, Doom, Them proves that the quartet — vocalist Kai, guitarist Yaga, bassist Ryan and drummer Ade — haven’t let their guard down, and are as capable of deploying the same aggressive, ultra-fast and frenzied socio-political musical melee they did more than two decades ago.

Full Of Hell - promo live band pic - 2013 - #1 - B&W

On a seemingly endless live killing spree in 2013, noise/grind assailants FULL OF HELL have embarked on their next wave of live attacks on the two-week 14 Acts Of Audio Terrorism tour. The mayhem started last night in Bay Shore, Long Island with White Widows Pact and more, then plowing a counterclockwise warpath through Connecticut, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, North and South Carolina before closing down in Virginia, the last three dates of the tour alongside A389 labelmates Noisem. View the updated tour itinerary below and await more violent live action from FULL OF HELL in the coming weeks.

This week FULL OF HELL posted a video of their recent session for Toxicbreed’s Funhouse, where they get halfway through the chaotic set before blowing out the power to the entire building. View that, as well as their first official video for the track “The Lord Is My Light” and more RIGHT HERE.

Continuing to tour in support of their most damaging and scathing material to date — their second LP, Rudiments Of Mutilation, released in June via A389 Recordings – FULL OF HELL has been slaying audiences all year-long. Recorded with Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Old, Phantomsmasher), Rudiments Of Mutilation captures the incredible conviction the young crew culminate live, catapulting their energetic hatesurge into the audience and inspiring all-out melees amongst the humans. Stream the entire LP HERE.

9/17/2013 Ziggy’s – Wilmington, NC w/ Noisem

9/18/2013 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA w/ Noisem

 Critical Praise:

“Full of Hell want to open wounds however they can. The four-piece is so focused on delivering bile-soaked fury that they’ll use nearly anything at their disposal. While most of the tracks are acrid flashes of grind and powerviolence, there are still treks through squeamish noise and torturous hardcore. Seems like there’s always new releases by these guys, but this is the best I’ve heard so far.” – Decibel

“…Rudiments of Mutilation is an incredible album that should not go unheard. It is sick, unnerving, excellently established, moody, violent, and one of the best damn records that will be put out this year. You want dark? Here it is motherfuckers. Eat it up. 9.5/10” – Metal Injection

“…this is the band’s finest work to date and as a statement, Rudiments truly serves as a moving monument to the inevitability and eternality of human suffering. 10/10” – American Aftermath

POISON IDEA – Southern Lord To Reissue Seminal Titles From Hardcore Punk Legends

Posted in hardcore, hardcore punk, Music, Punk rock, punk rock albums, punk rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on December 15, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Southern Lord Recordings are proud to be officially re-releasing several incredible, seminal titles from Portland, Oregon’s explosive Punk/Hardcore kings, POISON IDEA in 2012!

Southern Lord will be releasing CD versions of several POISON IDEA reissues that TKO Records are currently re-releasing on vinyl. All of the material is being re-mastered by Jack Control (World Burns to Death) and each release includes new, extensive liner notes as well as never before seen photos and previously unreleased bonus material.

This POISON IDEA reissue series kicks off January 31st, with the re-release of Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years. Boasting twenty-nine tracks from the band’s earliest days, the album includes the 100% previously unreleased Boner’s Kitchen demo from 1981, the complete Darby Crash Rides Again demo from 1982, the complete uncut live-on-the-air set from the 1983 KBOO radio benefit, and outtakes from the Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes recording session.

Much of this material has either been out-of-print or never before officially released! All the recordings have been meticulously restored and mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door Mastering. The booklet contains liner notes, old flyers and tons of previously unpublished photos from the band’s beginnings. This is a complete no-brainer for POISON IDEA fans or any fan of the early days of American Hardcore Punk.

Following Darby Crash Rides Again in January, Southern Lord will also re-release The Fatal Erection Years (Pick Your King/Record Collectors are Pretentious Assholes), War All The Time, Ian Mackaye, Feel The Darkness, We Must Burn and Last Will & Testament throughout 2012.

ARSON ANTHEM “Insecurity Notoriety” – A Hardcore Album That Trounces Anything In It’s Path

Posted in extreme music, hardcore bands, hardcore music, hardcore punk, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, Punk rock, punk rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , on December 4, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

ARSON ANTHEM – Released on October 12, 2010, on Housecore Records, Insecurity Notoriety is the first full-length album from Arson Anthem. A Hardcore band of enormous Punk aptitude, Arson Anthem is, no matter how you slice or dice it… a Hardcore supergroup. With Phil Anselmo on guitar and needing little to no introduction, his years fronting the iconic Pantera is unequivocally legendary, not to mention his years vocalizing with Sludge Metallers known as Down.

Mike IX Williams on vocals is also the front man for the Sludge Metal warriors – Eyehategod. Hank Williams III has brandished his very own successful solo career and played alongside Phil Anselmo with Superjoint Ritual. Hank also has molded and brought to underground fame his Metal meets Punk band called… Assjack. Collin Yeo rounds out Arson Anthem on bass, coming from his alt-heavy band… PonyKiller.

So, it is fair to think, that Arson Anthem won’t be making their Grammy Awards performance debut anytime soon. This is why Hardcore exists, this is why Arson Anthem exists, to shove it in the face of the mainstream lovin’ and tuxedo wearin’ Grammy crowd. That same crowd who would probably cry and break out in puffy-red hives if Arson Anthem strolled down their red carpet. Blue collar, street and pissed off about somethin’, this is why I dig Hardcore and Arson Anthem. Accept it or go hide behind your stacks of Wall Street Journals. Once you put this new Arson Anthem CD into whatever “machine” your using, just know that the “stick it to the man” warning light just went on.

There are 17 songs on Insecurity Notoriety and 12 of them are under two minutes long. This is Hardcore and in your face, brutal and unforgiving of any insult to injury. Listening to this album is a lesson in quick release rage therapy. Arson Anthem has accomplished a remarkable task in keeping themselves sounding original. Arson Anthem’s reverence for Old School, with thick slivers of Punk fueled outbursts and playing for keeps, dramatically elevates the totality of their barbed wire hardness. This is a band that obviously knows where their Black Flag vinyl is kept.

Hank Williams III doesn’t just play the drums on these songs, he decimates them. Mike IX Williams doesn’t sing, are you kidding? Mike rants and screams his vocal chords inside-out. Collin Yeo doesn’t try to keep timed rhythm while playing bass, instead, he pummels his strings into frantic rhythmic chaos that might just open up the center of the Earth. Then there is Phil Anselmo on guitar, exhibiting some mighty riffs that cover the Extreme Metal spectrum. Phil leads by Hardcore example, with his axe attack teetering on the insane, he will even throw in some micro solos, making a song like Crippled Life seem as if it is going to explode it’s pissed off attitude straight from hell.

When Extreme combines with Hardcore, Punk and Metal, the only thing that can come out of it is a profoundly brutal piece of work. Arson Anthem has taken their Extreme Music roots and latched them upon their instruments, to create their first full-length that makes a pummeling statement. This is a crushing work of Extreme art that is Arson Anthem’s Insecurity Notoriety.

THROWDOWN – RELEASE 2 NEW MUSIC VIDEOS FROM THEIR “DEATHLESS” ALBUM!

THROWDOWN RELEASE TWO NEW MUSIC VIDEOS FROM THEIR LATEST ALBUM “DEATHLESS”

(New York, NY) — THROWDOWN will be unleashing two new music videos for songs “Tombs” and “Blinding Light” from their latest full length DEATHLESS today, exclusively on Metalinjection.com. The band had not so recently released two videos for songs “This Continuum” and “The Scythe” earlier this year on Headbangers Ball, vocalist Dave Peters explains the difference this time around.  “‘Tombs’ and ‘Blinding Light’ are my two favorite songs on the record. ‘Blinding Light’ didn’t initially have that creepy vibe that it took on later during production. Unfortunately, the vocal and guitar layers are what give it that vibe, and it’s not real easy to reproduce live as a four-piece. I’m notorious for painting us into a corner that way, but it’s ridiculous to dumb a song down or not use parts in fear of translating it live in my opinion.”

Peters goes on to talk about a past experience of playing a new song live, and the sometimes spur of the moment tactics used to get through a set. “We actually played it live once before we finished writing it. I straight up free-styled the lyrics. No one even noticed. Just nonsense.  I probably mentioned waffles and Manny Ramirez. We played with DANZIG that night and I sang the ‘Danzig shopping list’ (http://bit.ly/ccTPQX) while Mark was tuning. About 9 people lost their minds. The other 2400 were confused.”

Videos for “Tombs” and “Blinding Light” can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/cKR5n8

THROWDOWN’S latest album, DEATHLESS was released last year to extraordinary critical praise.  DEATHLESS has been hailed as the bands most powerful and diverse offering to date.

“Simply put, ‘Deathless’ is a breath of fresh air in a scene that has been overrun with deathcore / screamo clones.”- Loudside.com 8/10

“The gents have given it their all with the outcome being more sharp, crisp and with an emollient approach that still stays old school.” ABORT Magazine

“With Deathless, Throwdown find the perfect combination of beauty and brutality to create an absolute metal masterpiece!” thenewreview.net 5/5

D.R.I. – “CROSSOVER” ALBUM FROM 1987 REVISITED! “MILLENNIUM EDITION” RELEASES MAY 25, 2010!

Posted in hardcore bands, heavy metal albums, heavy metal bands, heavy metal music, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, punk rock music, rock music, thrash metal bands with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 18, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

D.R.I. – (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) released Crossover back in 1987 on Metal Blade Records. To describe D.R.I. for those unfamiliar with them, they are an Old School Punk and Metal crossover Band that combined Thrash, Traditional Metal and thick Hardcore flavor with a Punk attitude to their overall sound. D.R.I. gets described as Crossover Thrash over the years too, which is just fine and Metal dandy with me. I can’t get too carried away here with the genre tags, just take my Metal word for it… D.R.I. is a Metal Band worth listening to. D.R.I. may not be the household name from the 1980’s, only they are as legit, credibly heavy and blue collar as any Metal or Extreme band that has walked upon planet Earth.

The Crossover album has always been a great listen for me, past and present. The extremities of Metal and Hardcore just seem to boil over on Crossover. Each time I listen to this D.R.I. album, I realize how closely linked Punk Rock and Metal really are, I get that same feeling each time I listen to the legendary Misfits as well. D.R.I. was not looking for any commercial hugs from the mainstream with their brand of Metal meets Hardcore, this band just blazed away with uncompromising attitude and astute, extreme musicianship.

D.R.I. has toured on and off, rather consistently for years, even into 2010, despite their last studio album Full Speed Ahead being released back in 1995. This is a band that would make my Metal day with a new studio album release… then again, their back catalog and especially Crossover, is a Metal and Extreme bounty that has and always will stand the test of time for me.

As I sunk my Metal ears into Crossover this past weekend, I found out once again, just how addicting D.R.I. really can be. After my third listen through to Crossover today, it felt like I opened up a can of Old School Extreme whoop ass, which slapped me in the face… and it set me straight.
