Alternative metal’s breakout act ONI has released the second chapter of its latest opus, Genesis, today. Vocalist and musical mastermind Jake Oni has revealed the new EP, Genesis Pt. II, an anthemic, active rock/metal masterpiece that perfectly bookends his latest vision. Produced by writing partner and Spiritbox bassist Joshua Gilbert, the record solidifies ONI’snew direction, spearheaded by standout singles like “Float” and “What I’ve Become.”

Speaking about the new EP, Jake Oni says:

I am really proud of the Genesis EP, and writing it was very cathartic. As I released the songs and the fan feedback got stronger and stronger, I felt like I hadn’t finished saying everything with the first e.p and still had all these amazing songs that truly felt like a continuation of my Genesis story. I hope the fans, find the message in these songs, and it helps them as much as it helped me.

With today’s release, ONI has debuted a new video for the track “What I’ve Become.”

Oni adds about the new track and video:

‘“What I’ve Become’ is such a huge song! It was a song that just flowed when me and Josh started writing it. The song is about not loving a version of yourself! We shot the music video on tour in Charlotte NC, was a crazy day as we flew in, shot the music video and then played a show 3 hrs later. I know this will be a fan favorite as it’s been loved by everyone I have shown it too.

Genesis Pt. I and Genesis Pt. II are now available as one album, Genesis, exclusively on CD. A limited edition Genesis merch collection will be available as well.

Beasto Blanco “LOWLANDS” Single and Video Review – by Tanis Enos

Beasto Blanco has produced yet another mind blowing single following the release of “Run for Your Life” in February. Fans were treated to a listening party with members of the band on Bandcamp prior to the official release, and the the new single was immediately met with an outpour of love and excitement for the video.

“LOWLANDS” features Calico Cooper at the forefront of vocals this time, with Chuck Garric’s low raspy voice complimenting her perfectly throughout the song. The chorus alone shows not only the power behind Cooper’s voice as she belts out “Home” but gives you a beautiful introduction to her range. A mix between clean and distorted vocals adds to the anger behind the song.

“LOWLANDS” is the auditory representation of the Machine Girl. The song includes strong guitar parts with a war like drum beat keeping time and the Beasto Blanco groove that makes you feel like you are indestructible. While chatting with fans in the Bandcamp party, Cooper stated “I wrote the lyrics when I was a liiiiiittle mad lol” Everyone can always use a song to angrily scream in their car on the way to work.

Cooper also got to show off her high level of creativity and rage in a visual way as she not only starred in but directed the music video. The video is basically split in two, Cooper singing in the rain with dark blue lighting and the story being told within tints of red, yellow and orange. Cooper mentioned to fans on Bandcamp that “I nearly drowned,” and whether she’s serious or joking the amount of rain and splashing added just what was needed to the fury and passion behind the song and made Cooper look terrifyingly beautiful as she sang it. It all seemed to flow very naturally from her. As for the story scenes, there is no better vampire to use than Anthony Montemarano, because what woman wouldn’t get drawn in by that smirk?

The role Montemarano plays is so key to visually depicting not letting love basically blind you from the bad. The very end of the video as Cooper is walking slowly toward the camera with her finger to her lips, ties the whole vibe of I made you and I can take you down cause you don’t control me.

Overall, Beasto Blanco knocked this one out of the park yet again. The band is set to tour Europe with The Dead Daisies in November of this year. The band will also be playing a few of their dates in Europe in late July, early August that include Wacken Open Air 2024 on August 3rd. Keep an eye on Beasto Blanco social media accounts for tour updates, behind the scenes of the music videos, and personal commentary from the members. – Tanis Enos

What do you think of this album cover? I’ll tell you right now… it creeps the hell out of me. This album cover speaks volumes for what currently is a societal evil that exists and lurks today, an evil that the world can live without. SCARS ON BROADWAY – “THEY SAY” 2008 7″ PICTURE DISC SINGLE & VIDEO I’D LIKE TO SHOW YA’

SCARS ON BROADWAY. Daron Malakian, (guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, organs and vocalist) and John Dolmayan, (drums), need no formal introduction, due to their legendary careers with System of a Down. The debut and self titled album Scars On Broadway was released back on July 29, 2008. The single from their debut album – They Say was also released as a 7″ picture disc back in 2008. My picture disc version of They Say, is shown below – both sides. (There is a U.K. version that is limited to 2,000 pressings, with a different image as well) (My picture disc version of They Say has no exact number to it’s limited pressing, to the best of my Metal knowledge). This picture disc was released by Velvethammer with the song licensed to Interscope Records.

As for the song itself… great song! I simply get into this song like there is no tomorrow! The lyrics of They Say basically speaks exactly how I feel about the nightly news and all the depressing information and disinformation, that is fed into the minds of people, on a constant, daily basis. Through the lyrics of They Say, Daron Malakian is honestly stating that the world’s news isn’t all peaches and cream. Lyrical reality about society can and does exist in Metal and Hard Rock songs. When expressed in matter of fact language, such as They Say, the points are driven home and are related quite easily for my interpretation. Sure, They Say Rocks hard and gets me psyched out… yet it also makes me stop to think – about the reality of the world we live in. In my Metal opinion, this song is riveting.

Check out, if you so choose, the still music video for They Say below. It is a still video, showing the debut/self titled album cover – Scars On Broadway, with this great song being played with NO lyrics being edited… crank it LOUD!

Here is what my 7″ picture disc looks like, Scars On Broadway – They Say:

Daron Malakian is pictured on the left, John Dolmayan is pictured on the right of this picture disc photo.

*This picture disc version contains They Say on both sides.

I bought this picture disc sometime back in 2008… guess where? Hot Topic. If you guessed Office Depot or Walgreens Pharmacy… you were way off.
