descend into despair - the bearer of all storms - promo cover pic - 2014

Romanian funeral doom collective, DESCEND INTO DESPAIR, is pleased to join the eccentric Domestic Genocide roster for the release of their forthcoming full-length, The Bearer Of All Storms. Melodic yet fragmented and led by the anguished growls of Denis Ungurean, the record is a primitive, thoroughly cheerless voyage through the various sounds and shades of suffering and despair, their grim, disconcerting hymns of negativity proving both elegant and suffocating.

Sink into the sorrow of teaser track “Mirrors Of Flesh” below:

The Bearer Of All Storms Track Listing:

1. Portrait of Rust

2. Mirrors of Flesh

3. Pendulum of Doubt

4. Triangle of Lies

5. The Horrific Pale Awakening

6. Plânge glia de dorul meu

7. Embrace of Earth

Forged in 2010 in the dismal town of Radauti, Romania, DESCEND INTO DESPAIR aims to consume its listeners with a pervading sense of melancholy, their lyrical themes teetering somewhere between hope for a better tomorrow and imminent societal collapse, the downward spiral of mankind playing the most prominent role in their source of forlorn inspiration. Over the course of four years and varying lineups, the band – now featuring Alex Cozaciuc (lead guitars, programming, drums, keyboards), Denis Ungurean (vocals, ex-Donkerland), Iulia Bulancea (bass), Orza Radu (drums), Cosmin Farcău (rhythm guitars) and Florentin Popa (keyboards) – has released one demo, one EP and the “Hierophant Of The Night” single written in memory of Lifelover’s Jonas Bergqvist, each offering proving more traumatic than the next both in sound and spirit.

The Bearer Of All Storms will be released via Domestic Genocide Records on January 28, 2014. Order your copy today at THIS LOCATION.

Shadow Kingdom Records Releases Rare RUN AFTER TO Recordings

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , on January 13, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Run After To - promo cover pic - 2014

Shadow Kingdom Records has unearthed and released a collection of obscure and virtually unknown ’80s Italian Doom Metal from RUN AFTER TO.

A split release entitled Run After To/Gjinn and Djinn that includes the band’s lone 1988 self-titled EP and the 1985 Gjinn and Djinn demo is now available worldwide on digital and CD formats. The songs have been remastered and the CD package contains some amazing band photos and a complete biography.

With the strange name came some strange songs as well. These old dusty recordings are literally impossible to find except for a low quality upload on YouTube. Fans of old 80’s Doom Metal like PAUL CHAIN VIOLET THEATRE, BLACK HOLE, and DEATH SS will absolutely love this package. Those not as familiar with Italian Doom Metal will have their interest piqued by comparisons to the likes of BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS, CANDLEMASS and TROUBLE. RUN AFTER TO is one of those bands who has gone criminally unnoticed thanks to a career cut too short.

Stream the album in full and purchase at: shadowkingdomrecords.bandcamp.com.

Vestal Claret - band promo pic - #222 - 2013

Cruz Del Sur Music is proud to announce another prestigious addition to its roster, occult metal unit VESTAL CLARET!

One of the most mysterious and intriguing bands to appear from the American underground in the last few years, VESTAL CLARET is the creation of Simon Tuozzoli and  Phil Swanson (SEAMOUNT / HOUR OF 13 fame), and play a killer mixture of Doom and  Heavy Metal riffage with a definite penchant for the morbid and sick atmospheres. Are you ready for the ritual to begin? You better go sharpen your krises!

The band’s first release with Cruz Del Sur Music, The Cult of the Vestal Claret, is the follow-up to their 2011 debut, Bloodbath and will see the light of day in April 2014. The album will be available on CD, digital and vinyl formats.

Ripple Music Unveils Heavy Ripples Distribution – Psych, Stoner, Doom and More.

__________________________

Ripple Music is proud to announce that heavy rocking labels Transubstans Records, Kozmik Artifactz, Buried by Time and Dust, Lay Bare Recordings and Ozium Records have joined forces with Heavy Ripples to create a revolution in Heavy Rock Distribution.

And a revolution it is!  Muscling the same D.I.Y. ethic and unbridled passion that has fueled the renaissance in heavy rock currently bubbling up from the underground, industry leading record label, Ripple Music, has created the world’s first, not-for-profit Record Distribution Service.  And the world is taking notice.

By eliminating all middle-man distribution fees (except the bare minimum to cover paypal and store costs) Heavy Ripples has created THE true Distribution service for the underground.  A service that exists not to profit off the artists backs, but to get their music out there.

A true revolution.

Ripple Music - Heavy Ripples - large logo

In just a few short months, Heavy Ripples Distro (heavyripples.bigcartel.com) has become one of the “go to” sources to find LP’s, CD’s, 7″‘s, Tee’s, Magazines, and more from some of the most esteemed bands in the heavy underground.

Noting that the burgeoning underworld of stoner, doom, and heavy rock bands were under-served by the current distribution system, Racer and Pope, the head honchos of the hard-rocking Label, Ripple Music, decided that something had to be done. So, they put together a Distro benefiting  from their years of experience with Ripple Music. And Heavy Ripples Distro was born.

Heavy Ripples Distro is also the exclusive North American Distributor of Vincerebus Eruptum, the world’s leading magazine of the heavy psych rock scene. Find out more about the ‘zine at: www.vincebuseruptum.it.

Samothrace - Reverence To Stone - cover promo!

The acclaimed Reverence To Stone was released in July of 2012 via 20 Buck Spin, the label responsible for unveiling the band to the masses on the masterful 2008 debut SAMOTHRACE album, Life’s Trade. Through two lumbering, expansive tracks, the band explores more cavernous realms of thunderous tone hand-in-hand with even more beautiful and organic elements than ever on Reverence To Stone, all culminating in an incredibly real-sounding, psychedelic doom metal that continues to prove SAMOTHRACE as one of the top bands of the genre.

Since the LP’s triumphant release, the band has trekked across the US regionally several times and also ventured across all of Europe on their debut tour of the continent, and as they continue to book more dates this Autumn, continue their most intense touring cycle in the band’s entire lineage.

Eastern Spell - large band logo - B&W - 2013

EASTERN SPELLUnderground Doom Metal has raised its calamitous head in Southern Maine. An underground Doom Metal sound that when played at maximum volume, the vibrations are equated to a one ton sledgehammer, as it’s being struck down upon a bolstered granite ledge; crippling and destroying all other sounds around it for miles. EASTERN SPELL is this underground Doom Metal troupe that makes such sonic Sludge enormity, as they, along with their new single, Entraced, are:

Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

At 11:10 long, Entraced is a Doom Metal epic, one that is capable of registering an impressive reading on the Richter magnitude scale. Seriously, no shit. This Doomed offering from EASTERN SPELL is an apocalyptic death march to a bottomless pit of hellfire; an evil hole of death that echoes the tormented souls of bubble-gum Pop fans, the sorry ones who’ve been eliminated from existence.

PRIMITIVE MAN – Autumn Live Assaults Announced – Downfall 2013 Tour

Posted in concerts, doom metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 1, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Primitive Man - Autumn Tour - 2013 - promo flyer

Denver’s favorite Blackened Doom derelicts, PRIMITIVE MAN, will wage war upon the ears of the innocent this autumn with a short run of live assaults. Set to begin October 13th in Kansas City, the band will spread their negativity eastward through nine cities including an appearance at Invisible Oranges’ CMJ showcase at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar.

Comments the band: “We can’t wait for this tour! We are playing with some amazing bands and hanging out with some old friends this time around. See you in the cut.”

Featuring current and former members of Withered, Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire, Death of Self and Reproacher, PRIMITIVE MAN will be touring in support of their critically adored Scorn full-length. A physically and psychologically eviscerating sound excursion, Scorn was recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt, etc.) and boasts seven hymns of hate, anguish and rampant planetary discontent.

Primitive Front

The record was initially unleashed earlier this year via a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records before being reissued by Relapse late last month and continues to reap media hails both nationally and abroad for a “totally malignant sounding record … that will consume you whole if you’re not careful” (Cvlt Nation).

Scorn is currently available via Relapse Records on CD, LP and digitally. Order your copy HERE.

PRIMITIVE MAN Autumn Live Actions:

10/13/2013 The Sandbox – Kansas City, MO

10/14/2013 The Vault – Madison, WI

10/15/2013 Gooski’s – Pittsburgh, PA

10/16/2013 The Millcreek – Philadelphia, PA

10/17/2013 CMJ Invisible Oranges Showcase @ Saint Vitus – Brooklyn, NY

10/19/2013 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA

10/20/2013 Haymarket Whiskey Bar – Louisville, KY

10/21/2013St. Fubar – St. Louis, MO

Critical Praise:

“No album so far this year has been as depressingly crushing as Scorn, and it’ll take something really empty and dank to match what PRIMITIVE MAN has done on this album.” – Metal Underground

PRIMITIVE MAN delivers the kind of doom metal reminiscent of a vast, apocalyptic wasteland where the only inhabitants left are too busy committing acts of lethal brutality against one another to care about things as trivial as beauty or art.” – Metal Insider

ARGUS – “Beyond the Martyrs” Coming This October on Cruz Del Sur Music

Argus - Beyond The Martyrs - promo cover pic

Cruz Del Sur Music will release Beyond the Martyrs, from US Doom Metal outfit ARGUS, on October 1st in North America, with an October 7th release in the UK.

Beyond the Martyrs starts where their 2011’s release Boldly Stride the Doomed had left us…at the Ruins of Ouroboros. In between these two releases ARGUS has tested its strength and valor in several live shows both in their homeland and in Europe, receiving high praises from fans and from the record industry. Although a sense of impending fate marks again their compositions, the characteristic Doom Metal elements which were a distinguished trademark of ARGUS’ past releases have now given way to what is primarily to a genuine Heavy Metal approach, its nature rooted in the most classic environment of Heavy Metal tradition.

ARGUS’ third album is sure to force Metal Heads everywhere to raise horn-crested fists to the sky. Beyond the Martyrs contains the hallmarks of their previous works – twin guitars, soaring vocals, and a driving rhythm section; it is heavy, melodic, epic, and brooding all at once. After their successful shows at festivals such as Hammer of Doom in 2011 and Dublin Doom Days in 2012, the band will hit again the European soil with a proper tour in October 2013 in order to promote Beyond the Martyrs.

ARGUS - band logo - gold - black - 2013

Beyond The Martyrs – Track Listing:

1. By Endurance We Conquer

2. No Peace Beyond The Line

3. The Hands of Time Are Bleeding

4. Trinity

5. Four Candles Burning

6. The Coward’s Path

7. Cast Out All Raging Spirits

8. Beyond The Martyrs

ARGUS:

Butch Balich – vocals

Jason Mucio – guitar

Erik Johnson – guitar

Andy Ramage – bass

Kevin Latchaw – drums

ABOUT ARGUS:

Pennsylvania’s ARGUS stormed onto the underground Metal scene with their twin guitar-driven, doom-tinged, working class Metal sound. Releasing a self-recorded demo in early 2007 on John Brenner’s (Revelation/Against Nature) DIY label, Bland Hand Records, the band was roundly welcomed by the Metal community at home as well as abroad and established its foundation amongst friends/fans within the scene. With this initial momentum, the band created a buzz that was only solidified by their punishing live performances.

Their self-titled debut album was released in May of 2009, receiving much critical praise. Following, was the 2011 release of the epic album Boldly Stride The Doomed, which also marks a switch to the record label, Cruz Del Sur. The band has continued to gain notoriety, traveling abroad and around the U.S. The release of their third full-length album, Beyond The Martyrs, is staged for release in October 2013.

DIESTO “For Water Or Blood” – One HEAVY Album For Your 2013 NEED List!

Diesto - For Water Or Blood - promo cover pic

4.5 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4Metal Odyssey - Metal Fist - Half!

DIESTO – Portland, Oregon is home to DIESTO; a band that’s incredibly heavy, from every musical angle, note and lyric. Every instrument played in this band is played heavy as freaking hell. Stoner, Doom and even CLUTCH fans who’ve not heard DIESTO (yet) will revel in this band’s sound. Aw, hell, any Metal fan will have something to marvel at with DIESTO; this band is that good. DIESTO = Riff Fest.

DIESTO will be seeing their fifth album, For Water Or Blood, release on August 27th, via (the mighty) Eolian Empire. This new DIESTO album is without any Metal doubt in my Metal mind, one you have to put on your need list. I want to feature the very best on Metal Odyssey and give my fellow Metal brethren choices that are (to me) legit and badass. DIESTO fits that Metal criteria very well.

Diestro - Promo Band Pic - James Rexroad - #1 - 2013

DIESTO:

Mark Bassett – Guitar & Vocals
Chris Dunn – Guitar & Vocals
Devon Christian Shirley – Drums
Rusty Powers – Bass

DIESTO pronounces the old school Doom in their songs (think early Black Sabbath) and makes it all sound so rich and powerful! Don’t be fooled that there is (only) 7 songs on For Water Or Blood, these songs are not quickies. This is an album for the backwoods bonfires, with kegs tapped and beer flowing abundantly, below a smoke-filled night sky. This is an album for the big cities too, DIESTO is a band you want your elitist neighbors to hear you playing LOUD so they don’t think of messing with you.

DIESTO are outstanding Metal musicians in my Metal world; listening to these dudes hammer away on this album is a great way to escape from the shit going on in the world right now. The sandpapered and Herculean vocals of (guitarist) Chris Dunn are simply awesome. For Water Or Blood was just the Metal remedy I needed this past week, to keep my Metal veins pumping and my Metal soul burning bright. Metal be thy name.

http://www.sho.com/sho/reality-docs/titles/142198/last-days-here#/index

PENTAGRAM’s most recent album, Last Rites, was released via Metal Blade Records on April 14, 2011 and their first ever official DVD (also out on Metal Blade), When the Screams Come, on August 30, 2011. Both releases were met by rave reviews from fans and critics alike and saw the band playing sets at infamous SXSW festival in Austin, Texas as well as tours across the US and dates in Europe.

Recently, after months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM announced the addition of their new guitarist Matt Goldborough. His debut with the “Ram Family,” rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. If that gig wasn’t special enough, the band performed songs not heard live in over 40 years! Inspired by a demand from the fans, Liebling and company pulled out rare gems, including Be Forewarned. This track and more can be viewed now at:

PENTAGRAM live at Saint Vitus Bar, Apr 16th. 2013

Just days later, on July 27th the quartet will return to Sydney to headline Slaughterfest VI with over thirteen other underground acts on the decimating bill.

BLACKOUT – New York Psychedelic Doom Trio Unleashes Three-Track Sampler

Blackout - We Are Here - 3 song sampler - promo coverBand To Level Brooklyn’s Acheron This Saturday

_____________________________________

With food, beer and America at the forefront, it only makes sense guitar player/vocalist Christian Gordy and drummer Taryn Waldman would meet at Gordy’s 2011 July 4th cookout in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Waldman, a former Hooter’s waitress turned big time commercial film editor, and Gordy, a one-legged bartender/artist/BBQ enthusiast were an oddball couple for NY’s heavily styled Metal scene. The duo began rapidly banging out monolithic snail-paced riffs that could party as much as they could crush. BLACKOUT — referring to blackout drunk, the absence of light, or a mobster hit on an entire family — was the only appropriate title for the band.

With a three-song demo recorded at the now defunct Headgear Studios in the bag, Waldman set out on the task of stalking and acquiring drum wizard Justin Sherrel for the bass position. The sound filled out and quickly grew like Chuck Berry’s mustache. Now with Sherrel’s nitty-gritty, rhythm-heavy mud beneath an electrical tide of riffs and explosions, the mighty river of sludge was primed to lurch forward.

Blackout - promo band pic - 2013 - #44

In November 2012 BLACKOUT recorded their debut LP, We Are Here, at Vacation Island studio with engineer/producer Rob Laakso (Diamond Nights, Swirlies, Kurt Vile). It’s a six-song relentless banger from beginning to end:  no interludes or acoustic wankery. Fittingly described as “thick, riff-led heavy psych that blends Sleep‘s stoner heyday and classic Melvins stomp with a touch of Rob Crow‘s vocal compression in Goblin Cock,” by The Obelisk in a recent live review, the band is ready for a full-fledged takeover. BLACKOUT will soon be knocking on your door like a hairy, black clad Jehovah’s Witness who wants to smoke you out and listen to Sabbath records.

Until then, rape your speakers with the band’s foundation-crumbling behemoth of a three-track album sampler, currently streaming at their official BandCamp page at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, the trio will be bringing their bottom-heavy audio pillage to the stage this Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Acheron in their hometown of Brooklyn. The FREE daytime party features barbeque from Slam Pigs and Perry Ave. BBQ, additional appearances by Skullshitter, Hector’s Pets, Zoned Out and Cold Ones and DJs spinning rock into the night! DEMON LUNG – To Tour The West Coast In Support Of Debut Album

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on June 22, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Demon Lung - West Coast US - Tour Promo Flyer - 2013

Las Vegas-based Doom Metallers DEMON LUNG will venture west in the coming weeks to perform selections from their recently released full-length debut, The Hundredth Name.  Joining the quintet on select dates will be friends Wounded Giant and Castle. Dates are set to begin June 29th in Salt Lake City and wrap with a hometown show on August 18th.

The Hundredth Name was released June 4th via Candlelight Records. Since its release, the The Hundredth Name has found a solid support network among media and college radio programmers nationwide, peaking on CMJ’s Loud Rock report at position 14 with Full Metal Jacket/DMX programming the album in its syndication networks plus specialty and college play from the likes of WAQX (Syracuse NY), WZGM (Asheville NC), WHMH (St. Cloud MN), WSOU (S. Orange NJ), WCSB (Cleveland OH), KFSR (Fresno CA), and WIXQ (Millersville PA), among many others.

Las Vegas Weekly says, “everything about DEMON LUNG’s debut screams epic.” Metal Review confirms, “vocalist Shanda Fredrick’s measured delivery is bleak and monotone… a grimly deliberate wail that works magic.” Pitchfork.com boasts, “Fredrick emerges like a high empress,“ while Vegas Seven adds, “literate and lacerating, the ‘LUNG breathes real fire.” The album was recently selected as “Album Of The Day” by Roadburn.com where they crowned DEMON LUNG “a band with promise.”

Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG self-released their EP Pareidolia in early 2012.  The band entered the studio to record The Hundredth Name with producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) in late December.  The Hundredth Name was completed in early 2013 with final artwork provided by rising English illustrator Tom Gates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

MAMMOTH SALMON “Internet EP 2” – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Mammoth Salmon - promo cover pic

MAMMOTH SALMON – Sludge, Doom, & Keeping it Real. Those exact words are found on the about page of MAMMOTH SALMON’s Facebook. Metal truth be told, that sums up this 3 song Internet EP 2 from this Portland, Oregon Metal band quite adequately. There is an Internet EP released prior from these guys, back in December of 2012. I’ll blab about that one too in the near future; working my way backwards, I guess!

This Internet EP 2 has recently been released this past March and it’s HEAVY as freaking homemade molasses and an all-out riff fest. Raw and damn cool are these 3 songs I’ve listened to on this EP. MAMMOTH SALMON aren’t following the leader with their sound either. The Sludge and Doom that this Metal pack from the Great Northwest is tapping into has an electric vibe happening; that’s where the real comes into play.

I just cannot control myself digging the way MAMMOTH SALMON have pieced these songs together, from a super thumping doom march to a crawling drone interval and back again; this band has caught my Metal attention. Paul Dudziak  (vocals, guitar & bass) and Mitch Meidinger on drums are the Dynamic Sludge Doom Duo that makes up MAMMOTH SALMON and it’s my Metal recommendation that you give them a listen.

I can honestly see MAMMOTH SALMON gaining some potent label attention (if the right person hears their Metal) in the near future, with such a strong mindset to keeping their songs both super heavy and fantastically interesting. Metal be thy name.

Band To Spread Their Live Decay Next Month

_________________________________

Portland, Oregon Funeral Doom ensemble EPHEMEROS is pleased to announce their unholy union with Seventh Rule Recordings for the impending unleashing of their debut full-length, All Hail Corrosion.

Their All Hail Corrosion offering was tracked and mixed by Fester (Atriarch, Stoneburner) at Haywire Studios, mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering and offers up three diseased tracks in forty dismal minutes.
