Recharged Italian label Minotauro Records has announced the upcoming release of The Last Neanderthal from Portland, Maine’s Heavy Metal Doom rockers OGRE on February 21, in Europe and March 8 in North America.

The band’s fourth full-length release continues OGRE’s splendid combination of classic proto-metal (BLACK SABBATH, BUDGIE, DUST), a touch of ’70s prog rock (most notably RUSH), and a heaping dose of vintage doom (SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM). The Last Neanderthal even includes a cover of “Soulless Woman” by a different OGRE, a ’70s bar band from the Pacific Northwest.

The Last Neanderthal – Track Listing:

Shadow Earth

Nine Princes in Amber

Bad Trip

Son of Sisyphus

Soulless Woman

Warpath

White Plume Mountain

The Hermit

Check out the video for album cut “Nine Princes In Amber” below:

OGRE will celebrate the release of The Last Neanderthal with a CD Release show on March 14, at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland, Maine. For show details, click HERE.

OGRE History:

OGRE formed in 1999 when Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals) joined forces with Ross Markonish (guitar) and Will Broadbent (drums), who had been playing together in several bands in the Portland, Maine music scene.  Together, Ed, Ross, and Will quickly wrote and recorded a 4-track demo cassette that garnered high praise in the underground Doom Metal and Stoner-rock community.

In 2003, the band self-released its first full length, Dawn of the Proto-Man, to critical acclaim. The disc created enough buzz to get noticed by Japan’s Leafhound Records, who put out the band’s second and third albums, Seven Hells in 2006 and Plague of the Planet in 2008, the latter album being reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records in 2009. After a decade of playing shows up and down the East Coast as well abroad (Japan Tour with Church of Misery and Blood Farmers in 2008), OGRE returned to its cave in September 2009.

Coaxed out of hibernation after several years, the band played a handful of local shows and began writing new material that would eventually comprise its fourth album, The Last Neanderthal, to be released by Minotauro Records (Italy) in March 2014.  As one of the first currently active bands to be signed to the newly-recharged Minotauro, OGRE is ready to stampede into the next phase of its career.

Hailing from the icy mountains of Canada, FUNERAL CIRCLE is one of the most promising young bands to enter the realms of Doom Metal in recent memory. “Heavy. Eerie. Epic. Melodic.” – Temple of Perdition

“These are a collection of tracks destined to be played in huge halls. This wall of noise is massive, which leads me to the following question: Why hasn’t everyone heard of Funeral Circle already? This is unacceptable. You need to know. – MetalMouth.net

EYES OF FIRE – “DISINTEGRATE” DEBUT EP FROM 2003 REVISITED!

EYES OF FIREDisintegrate is the debut EP released by Eyes Of Fire, back in 2003, on Century Media Records. This is a three song EP that is emblazoned with a mixture of Metal threads. From Doom and Stoner undertones to an all out Sludge Metal assault that takes the upper Metal hand. This debut EP may just have three songs, still, it is a very good Metal barometer of exactly how Eyes Of Fire see, feel, write and play their brand of Heavy Music. It’s EP’s like this, that gives fans a taste of what a band is about… and Eyes Of Fire is about bringing the Sludge Metal hammer down.

Eyes Of Fire is without question, an extremely heavy Sludge Metal Band, only they can create some songs that are entwined with a true semblance of melodic moments. Hopeless is just that song which does capitalize on the heavy side of the Sludge spectrum, yet this song has guitars and keyboards that emphasize key melodious balance throughout.

Disintegrate opens up with the guitar hitting on shades of Peter Buck of R.E.M. fame… only this song dislocates itself very quickly from any musical familiarity with that alternative sound. The guitar intro is more like a sound trap that sucks you into the Sludge Metal pit to the extreme. Tough, anti-mellow and raw, this song forms it’s heaviness around it’s chaotic and speed driven tempo.

Anyone begins with a soft segue, blanketing the atmosphere with tantalizing and head turning progressive tendencies. Not to get fooled though… Eyes Of Fire kicks it into Sludge Metal gear within the blink of a Metal eye, transcending Anyone into a thickly heavy, emotional and angst driven song. Anyone easily is my top pick out of the three songs on Disintegrate, based on it’s credible heaviness and emotion scorched vocals.

* Metal Odyssey gives Eyes Of Fire – Disintegrate EP, 3.5 Metal Fists out of 5.

Some Eyes Of Fire notes of interest:

* My Metal research has found, that Eyes Of Fire were formed back in 1998 and went by the band name – Shiva.

* The songs Hopeless and Anyone were later included on the Eyes Of Fire full length studio album – Ashes To Embers, released in 2004 on Century Media Records.

* Before the formation of Eyes Of Fire, Dan Kaufman (vocals & guitar) and Matt Fisher (vocals & bass) were the founding members of Mindrot, a mid to late ’90’s Doom Metal Band once signed to Relapse Records.

* Eyes Of Fire originated from Orange County, California.

* As it is stated on their MySpace Music Page… Eyes Of Fire are currently on hiatus.

* A Power/Thrash Metal Band from Kenosha, Wisconsin, goes by the same name – Eyes Of Fire. Their record label is called: Musical Orgasms Publishing.

Eyes Of Fire – Ashes To Embers (studio album from 2004)

Eyes Of Fire – Prisons (last studio album from 2006)

Track Listing For Disintegrate EP:

WITCHCRAFT – “IF CRIMSON WAS YOUR COLOUR” RARE, GREEN 45RPM – I’LL SHOW AND TELL!

Posted in album covers, current doom metal bands, current heavy metal bands, doom metal albums, doom metal music, extreme metal bands, extreme music, hard rock music, Heavy Metal, heavy metal 45 rpm records, heavy metal album covers, heavy metal bands, heavy metal history, heavy metal music, heavy metal on vinyl, heavy metal record finds, heavy metal records, heavy metal songs, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 5, 2010 by Metal Odyssey

WITCHCRAFT – is a throwback Metal Band, a Stoner Metal Band if you will. This band is also well known as Doom Metal. O.k., they are resiliently Old School Heavy Metal, that is for certain. Metal is… Metal. Listening to Witchcraft is always like a breath of fresh Metal air for me. I just get that everything is mysteriously mellow vibe from their music, uh, Metal. Even if the lyrics from Witchcraft are a bit doom & gloom, it doesn’t get me down. Basically, Witchcraft does cast a Metal spell on me! (Man, is that corn dog or what?). Early last year, I picked up a downright nifty Witchcraft 7″ vinyl single, (45rpm), that is green. You betcha… green vinyl. (See pics of my Witchcraft 45 below at bottom). My Metal research has found that the green vinyl pressing I own is considered a repress from 2007… and limited to 200!!! There is only 200 of these Witchcraft 7″ green vinyl, 45rpm’s in the entire world!!! I’m very pleased to be the owner of one.

The two songs on my Witchcraft 7″ green vinyl 45rpm are:

Side A:

If Crimson Was Your Colour

Side B:

I Know You Killed Someone

Both songs carry a semblance of early years Heavy Metal, sprinkled with some psychedelia nuance. The riffs scream Old School, as well as the vocals of Magnus Pelander, who also plays guitar. The echo vibe that happens on these Witchcraft songs make them all the more retro pleasing. These two songs are heavy, no speed or mind blowing solos… just some real good Metal. Witchcraft is not from the early ’70’s, nor are they from the ’80’s either. Witchcraft formed in 2000, releasing their first studio/self titled album Witchcraft on Rise Above Records in 2004. Witchcraft hails from Örebro, Sweden.

Fans of these unreal legends – early/Ozzy Osbourne era Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Candlemass or any Doom Metal Band, just might take a Metal liking to Witchcraft. Stoner Metal fans of The Sword, High On Fire and Sleep, to name a few, could easily sink their teeth into Witchcraft’s Metal too.

Witchcraft are:

Magnus Pelander – vocals & guitar

John Hoyles – guitar

Ola Henriksson – bass

Fredrik Jansson – drums

* I Know You Killed Someone does not appear on any studio album from Witchcraft, essentially this is a non-album track.

* If Crimson Was Your Colour appears on the Witchcraft studio album – The Alchemist, released in October of 2007.

* Witchcraft is signed to Rise Above Records… an independent label.

* I paid roughly around 7 dollars (U.S.) for this Witchcraft record, that included shipping too.

Here is what Side A looks like:

Here is what Side B looks like:

Both sides of this Witchcraft 45rpm plays excellent too!

Here is what the front cover sleeve looks like:

Here is what the back cover sleeve looks like:

Thanks for reading about and looking at my Witchcraft – green 7″ 45rpm of If Crimson Was Your Colour.  Check this band out, if you already haven’t… it’s really good Metal!

* The word – “nifty” – was used in the first paragraph on Metal Odyssey.
