Melodic Death/Doom Group COLD COLOURS Celebrate 20th Anniversary With February 22 Release Of ‘Northernmost’

Cover art: Todd Salat

Long running Minnesota Death/Doom band COLD COLOURS celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2019 with the February 22 release of fifth full-length album Northernmost. In recognition of the winter solstice, the album’s first blast of freezing wind comes in the form of a lyric video for new track “Terminal Winter.”

Vocalist/guitarist Brian J. Huebner had this to say about the band’s milestone:

“If 20 years has taught me anything, it’s that you have to believe in what you are doing. No matter how many roadblocks you hit over two decades. I am thrilled that we have ‘Northernmost’ to celebrate 20 years. Our best album so far? Without question, but more importantly, the best representation of who we are and should be. This album is a testament to the chemistry of the band in 2019.”

Long overdue, Northernmost finds COLD COLOURS in top form as they mine the depths of despair on 12 dynamic compositions guaranteed to satisfy devotees, as well as newcomers with a taste for the likes of AMORPHIS, SWALLOW THE SUN, and INSOMNIUM. Recorded and mixed by drummer Mike Andrie, and mastered to perfection by the legendary Dan Swanö at Sweden’s Unisound, Northernmost is nothing short of exquisite. Welcome to 2019; welcome to your Doom!

Track Listing:

  1. Northernmost I
  2. Nightmare
  3. A Life Forlorn
  4. Northernmost II
  5. From This Pain
  6. Spirit
  7. Northernmost III
  8. Terminal Winter
  9. Heathen
  10. Northernmost IV
  11. The Parting
  12. The Pale Heart

BAPTISTS – To Release Third Album, “Beacon Of Faith”, Via Southern Lord On May 25th; New Track “Capsule” Now Streaming

Vancouver’s BAPTISTS announce their third full-length album, Beacon Of Faith, now confirmed for release through Southern Lord on May 25th. The album’s brooding “Capsule” has been made available for streaming.

Beacon Of Faith broadly follows the same trajectory as the album’s predecessors, Bushcraft (2013) and Bloodmines (2014) – combining the style of raw adrenaline-fueled emotion, venomous vocal delivery, gigantic guitar sound, and a visceral rhythmic propulsion – a sonic manifestation of desolate rage, bolstered by a palpable sense of urgency. The album is densely packed, yet BAPTISTS‘ sound is far from claustrophobic. There is melody amongst the dissonance, as the band more deeply explore the noise rock vistas that have always underpinned their sound.

Lyrics are drawn from the members’ direct experience of a broken society and general discontentment with everyday life. A multitude of issues are in the firing line, from the Canadian court system, issues surrounding substance abuse, mental health, and how the more fortunate, “tend to dismiss people who have been dealt a less-fortunate hand,” as guitarist Danny also reflects.

Beacon Of Faith was recorded at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou in July 2017, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.

Hear BAPTISTS’ “Capsule” now at THIS LOCATION or below:

Southern Lord will release Beacon Of Faith on all formats on May 25th; watch for additional updates in the weeks ahead.

“Capsule” Lyrics:
Passing cheeks
A faucet’s drip
The right amount to
Anoint the pit
Saturation
Prevents the clunk
But I want to feel it
As it goes down
Taste what’s going to move me
Before I
Have fucking changed
The tablet drops
An essence seeps
Past consumption
Post misuse
Destination
Informed conceit
A planned reprieve
From culture’s feats

Beacon Of Faith Track Listing:

  1. Worse Than Hate
  2. Absolved Of Life/Spent Cells
  3. Beacon Of Faith
  4. Gift Taker
  5. Capsule
  6. Outbreeding
  7. Vicarious Trauma
  8. Victim Services
  9. Indigo Child
  10. Eulogy Template
  11. Bevel Down
  12. Carbide
  13. Nostrovia

SKINNED – Announce New Album, Launch FREE Digital Single / Video

Skinned - publicity band pic - 2018 - #3338MO999ILG

XENOKORP is proud to announce the signing of a multi-album deal with US dark Death Metal band SKINNED, the release of the group’s fifth full-length, “Shadow Syndicate“, on May 04 and the immediate launch of the FREE digital single / music videoWe Are the End“!

Firmly rooted in the Death Metal spectrum, SKINNED have since their inception in 1995, always combined styles to create their very own kind of Extreme Metal by twisting and re-shaping sub-genres, the result being a unique mix of Death Metal, dark Doom soundscapes, hyper blasts, Black Metal dramatic grotesquery and heavy slams.

This monstrous band’s ability to invoke innumerable extremes to create some of the heaviest, most epic, dark and brutal yet groovy brand of Death Metal is impressive. From their debut demo to present, the level of progression and diversification is vast and seemingly unstoppable.

Much like the relentlessness of their music, SKINNED continue to canvas the world with countless past tours and gigs on such sub/continents and countries as North and Central America, Europe, Russia, Japan, South Africa, South Asia… most recently with the likes of DEFEATED SANITY, KATAKLYSM, INCANTATION, CEPHALIC CARNAGE and many more, making SKINNED a globally recognized force within the Extreme Metal scene as a whole and that for sure won’t stop with their new deal with world-renowned management and booking agency THE FLAMING ARTS and the release of their brand new landmark album, “Shadow Syndicate“ through XENOKORP on May 04.

Varied in shapes and moods, “Shadow Syndicate”, produced by Dave OTERO (CATTLE DECAPITATION, CEPHALIC CARNAGE…) and featuring, among others, guest vocals by Josh WELSHMAN (DEFEATED SANITY…) and guest lyrics by Paul McGUIRE (CEREBRAL BORE…), is the kind of work of art that’s much more than a collection of tracks: it’s a world in itself where each song explores a different aspect of dark beliefs (conspiracy theories, unsolved mysteries…), the whole creating a society of extreme darkness under the domination of the New World Order where the citizens become cattle for the governments and guinea pigs for alien entities, ultimately leading your specie to its ultimate demise, the face under the merciless boot of the… “Shadow Syndicate“!

ANGEROT – Debut Album ‘The Splendid Iniquity’ – Coming via Black Market Metal

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on February 23, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

New song now streaming at Decibel Magazine

South Dakota-based Death metallers, Angerot, rise from the ashes of Midwestern Metal to announce their crushing debut album, The Splendid Iniquity.

Featuring a cast of seasoned veterans who share roots that reach back to the very beginnings of the Death Metal Movement, Angerot are more than a nod to early Swedish Death Metal, they are pure Swede Death Worship. Recorded with Eddie G at Underground Studios, mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Grave, At the Gates) at Sunlight Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSeige, The Splendid Iniquity is a savage 40 minute sonic assault of 90’s Earache Records-era buzzsaw on your ear drums.

ANGEROT has tapped Decibel Magazine for the exclusive premiere of album track “Eternal Unrest.” Check it out at http://bit.ly/2ELg8hZ.

The album boasts guest appearances by some of the greatest names in Death Metal; LG Petrov (Entombed, Entombed AD, Firespawn), James Murphy (Death, Cancer, Disincarnate, Obituary, Testament ), making The Splendid Iniquity an absolute must listen for any fan of 90s Death Metal.

“We definitely do not feel this is a throwback band by any means. We all cut our teeth during the rise of this genre, and we are simply doing what comes naturally,” asserts vocalist/guitarist C.R. Petit. “We wanted to keep everything as on-point with the early 90’s as possible, that is why we elected to work with Tomas Skogsberg to mix our record. We could feel right away he knew exactly what we were trying to accomplish all the way around.”

The Splendid Iniquity is scheduled for release on Friday, April 13 through Black Market Metal Label.

TWITCHING TONGUES – Announces Tour With Hatebreed, Crowbar, And The Acacia Strain + US Headlining Shows Confirmed

Southern California-based Metal/Hardcore outfit TWITCHING TONGUES will take to the streets again this March on tour with Hatebreed, Crowbar, and The Acacia Strain. The trek – set to run from March 16th through March 29th – comes in advance of a short US headlining tour from March 30th to April 8th. See all confirmed dates below.

TWITCHING TONGUES will be touring in support of their forthcoming new full-length Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred, set for release March 9th via Metal Blade Records. The title for TWITCHING TONGUES‘ fourth full-length is drawn from a quote by famed social philosopher Eric Hoffer – “Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life.” Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred reflects the band’s mentality in approaching the record: paying homage to those who supported them while belligerently responding to their detractors.

With “failure” as a core theme driving Colin Young’s lyrics, it also features his first foray into the political arena, motivated by the contemporary political climate. Directly inspired by film scores, the record has a strong epic feel, the band realizing their vision of having the music flow like a story being told. While still maintaining the same levels of aggression that have traditionally characterized previous offerings, Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred features more immediate and memorable melodies that evoke the sound of 2013’s In Love There Is No Law.

For a first preview of Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred, sample the band’s latest video for “Harakiri” (directed by David Brodsky) at  metalblade.com/twitchingtongues where the record is available for preorder.

Dark/Atmospheric Metallers AFFASIA Releasing Debut EP February 23rd On Transcending Records

AFFASIA - Adrift In Remorse - promo album cover pic - 2018 - #334MO7773

Richmond (VA) – Richmond, VA Dark/Atmospheric Metal group AFFASIA will release debut EP Adrift in Remorse February 23 on Transcending Records. Fusing elements from their diverse influences, AFFASIA play guitar-driven dark, melodic metal with elements of Doom, Death, Darkwave, Shoegaze, atmospheric, and even classical music.

In addition to playing drums on the forthcoming album, Tony Petrocelly of In Trapan Studios (Guitarist/songwriter/producer of Construct of Lethe, guitarist of Grethor and drummer of Lord) recorded, mixed and mastered Adrift In Remorse.

AFFASIA was created as a collaboration between founders Jason Jennings (Guitarist/Composer) and David Waltenbaugh (Guitarist/Composer/Producer in 2012. In 2013 the duo started searching for other members to complete the lineup. Noah Cabitto (Vocalist/Writer/Composer) joined and assisted with writing, lyrics and naming the project. Joshua Sheffield (Percussionist/Writer) joined shortly along with Nick Lucente (Bass Guitar) .

David and Nick resigned as active members in late 2014, although their contributions in writing the material had a big impact. In early 2015 Noah Jones (Bass) and Michael Potts (Guitar) were live members. In early summer of 2015 William Carter (Bass guitarist, formerly of Withersoul and Cremains) joined as bassist and Jaden Deesvanburick (Guitarist) joined resolidifying the lineup.

William and Jaden parted with AFFASIA in late 2016. Nick Lucente rejoined in early 2017. Unfortunately once AFFASIA had restarted recording in earnest Joshua had to respectfully resign as the full-time drummer. He was always the band’s guiding light and positively a sheer creative force that the group was proud to have and hope to work with again.

Track Listing:

  1. Another Host
  2. Dissolute
  3. Brittle Sentiment
  4. As You Never Were

Album Lineup:

Noah Cabitto – Vocals
Jason Jennings – Guitars
Nick Lucente – Bass
Adam Coffman – Keys
Tony Petrocelly – Drums & Recording Engineer

DRIFT INTO BLACK – Atmospheric/Experimental Gloom Metal Project Featuring Former Member Of Grey Skies Fallen Releases “Shadow People” EP; Full Stream Available

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on December 30, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Drift Into Black - Shadow People EP - promo cover pic - 2017

For close to twenty years, Craig Rossi has handled keyboard duties for the Doom Metal band Grey Skies Fallen, recording four albums, two EPs, and two singles with the group. He’s performed numerous shows across the US sharing the same stage with the likes of Opeth, Anathema, Arch Enemy, Amorphis, and Katatonia. He’s since embarked on a new musical journey with atmospheric/experimental gloom metal project DRIFT INTO BLACK and his recently-issued Shadow People EP.

Boasting five depressive tracks, the eclectic sounds comprising Shadow People draw inspiration from a vast array of genres including dark rock, atmospheric, and Doom Metal. Rossi has taken on the task of vocals, guitars, keyboards, mixing, and mastering, along with the help of a hired session drummer. Notes Rossi, “I wanted the production on this EP to sound pale with less crisp than most records; a gloomy sound stage due to the fact that the lyrical content deals with dark human elements. If Anathema, Tiamat, Black Sabbath, and Katatonia all had a love child, DRIFT INTO BLACK would be it.”

Stream/purchase Shadow People in full via Bandcamp at THIS LOCATION or Spotify HERE.

Shadow People – Track Listing:

  1. Dawn Of A New Day
  2. Born Without Eyes
  3. A Funeral For My Enemies
  4. Drift Into Black
  5. Quicksand

Hamferð – Sign To Metal Blade Records

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on October 1, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Hamfero - publicity band photo - 2017 - #33MO33ILMFSO

From Metal Blade Records:

We are very excited to welcome Hamferð from the Faroe Islands to the Metal Blade roster! The band will be releasing a new album in 2018.

Hamferð comments: “We’re thrilled and proud to announce that we have signed a recording agreement with Metal Blade Records! Since we started out back in 2008 we have worked closely with our local label TUTL. The cooperation has been rewarding and our ties will not be severed completely. However, for the upcoming album and in the future we felt it was time to work with an internationally renowned metal label to hopefully help take Hamferð to the next level as a band. We feel positive and confident about Metal Blade’s setup and their commitment towards quality as the label houses many of our favorite artists and has released a ton of groundbreaking releases. Their legacy and dedication to metal music is vital. Our new record has been a long time coming. Needless to say, we are extremely excited to finally set it up for release!”

About Hamferð:

Hamferð refers to an apparition: the image of a person facing death, appearing before his or her loved ones as an omen.

“Faroese doom metal” is a powerful sound. Exclusive to this self-styled tag is Hamferð. For a near decade, the funeral dressed sextet has been casting a unique expression rooted in conceptual tragedy and intense, narrative doom metal.

“Hamferð is heavily inspired by our natural surroundings and our cultural heritage. Those aspects combine into unique feelings and atmospheres which we attempt to describe through our music”, comments guitarist Theodor Kapnas.

Faroese history and folklore are mixed together with grand atmospheres, a trademark that has earned worldwide attention. Stages at festivals such as Inferno, Midgardsblot, Tuska, Summer Breeze, Wacken and many more have been turned into funerary ceremonies. Touring with bands like Amorphis and Moonsorrow has further garnered the band a respected reputation due to strong yet solemn live performances.

The lyrical and conceptual approach is ambitious in scope. People are drawn to it, even though the band sings in their native tongue, Faroese. With a highly engaging idea concerning lyrics and songwriting, the hour has arrived to close a conceptual trilogy which commenced with the 2010 EP Vilst er siðsta fet, continued with the internationally acclaimed 2013 full-length album Evst, and is now concluded with the new album, soon to be announced.

Hamferð line-up:
Jon Aldara – Vocals
John Egholm – Guitar
Theodor Kapnas – Guitar
Isak Petersen – Bass
Esmar Joensen – Keyboards
Remi Johannesen – Drums
