It’s the colorful and booming sound of KILLER DWARFS, with major league songs that have always made them so memorable and this album is once again confirmation of just that; with the band’s chemistry of good times and Rock ’till you drop attitude spilling over each song!

Russ Dwarf should now be considered in every conversation of celebrated vocalists of 80’s Hard Rock up to present day. Solid Ground, Sky Is Falling and seven other songs are my choice favorites on Start @ One… and I’m not messing around! EMPHATIC – Set October 22nd Release Date For Sophomore Album Another Life, Featuring Frontman Toryn Green (Fuel, Apocalyptica)

Omaha-based hard rockers, Emphatic have announced an October 22nd release date for their sophomore album, Another Life, with Epochal Artists Records/Capitol Music Group. The album will be the first to feature new frontman Toryn Green, previously the singer of multi-platinum rock band FUEL and the touring vocalist for Finnish cello-rock band Apocalyptica.

Emphatic guitarist Justin McCain says, “This band has seen its share of difficult situations, and for me, I was the guy that had to decide to give up or fix what was broken. Music is in my blood so giving up isn’t an option.” He continues, “After making that decision to continue we found Toryn and he was everything I’ve ever wanted in a frontman. The record is a reflection of the trials and tribulations we went through as a band over the past couple of years.”

Produced by McCain and co-produced by Ryan Greene at Validus Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Another Life showcases Emphatic’s newfound sense of maturity and creative firepower, joining McCain’s drive with Green’s energy, as they deliver a powerful dose of groundbreaking hard rock. Now, with rejuvenated creativity, the band is firing on all cylinders with a line-up that matches the intensity of their songs. Another Life is filled with gigantic hooks, powerful melodies and is an inspiring triumph over adversity.

Emphatic are best known for their major label debut album Damage, which produced the hit single “Bounce”, shooting the album onto the Billboard Heatseekers charts at #9. The album was produced by Howard Benson (Three Days Grace, Halestorm), and featured A Perfect Circle’s Josh Freese playing drums. From there, Emphatic went on to take part in the Carnival Of Madness Tour, alongside hard rock heavyweights Theory of a Deadman, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, and Adelitas Way.

Jan Kuehnemund – Vixen Founder And Lead Guitarist Passes Away

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vixen founder and lead guitarist, Jan Kuehnemund, who lost a fierce battle with cancer on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Though most well known for her gifted guitar playing and other musical talents, Jan was a rare friend and beautiful in every sense of the word. Humble, thoughtful, loyal and kind, she was the most gracious of women, possessing the quiet strength of a true warrior. She genuinely loved and appreciated her friends and fans more than most could ever know. Those who were most fortunate to have known her and loved her are heartbroken at the loss of Jan, whose spirit will shine through her music eternally.

APE MACHINE – Gearing Up For West Coast Tour Dates

Portland, Oregon’s APE MACHINE is sowing their seeds by continuing an onslaught of regional touring of the urban wastelands of the U.S. West Coast!

The quartet that admittedly is “out to melt faces and pound the apathy out of otherwise jaded listeners” is eager to bring the live Machine back to stages, and show the masses what hard and heavy music is supposed to do to the senses. APE MACHINE is revisiting some frequent haunts of past West Coast tours all in the support of the band’s critically acclaimed Ripple Music debut, Mangled By The Machine, and this time playing in the coveted opening slot in San Diego for UK’s monsters of retro rock, Orange Goblin!

Debbi Blackwell-Cook Lends Her Stunning Soulful Pipes to the Title Track

(Los Angeles) MANRAZE, the London-based rock band formed by iconic Def Leppard lead guitarist Phil Collen, along with punk rock forerunner Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) on drums and Simon Laffy, rockin’ bass player of Collen’s former glam-band, Girl, will release their new EP, I Surrender, on November 12^th.

I Surrender will be comprised of three songs, including the title track, which features background vocals by Debbi Blackwell-Cook, who also appears on “All I Wanna Do”, a newly-recorded version of the song which first appeared on the trio’s 2011 sophomore album punkfunkrootsrock. The final track is “Connected-Live from Shepherd’s Bush”, a live studio performance from a studio podcast session, not previously released.

The first single, “I Surrender”, was nearly forgotten about, explains Collen, “The song is 8 years old. It practically never got finished. I was on tour last year and started singing the chorus. Early this year, I re-did the guitars to Paul’s original demo drums. I did a vocal and Simon played new bass-lines. Ger McDonnell then did a brilliant edit and mix on what we gave him. Debbi Blackwell-Cook supplied the wailing outro-vocals that you hear at the end of the song. We feel this is our best song yet.”

In the spring of 2011, the MANRAZE single “I, Superbiker” was the theme song for the feature documentary of the same name. Another Manraze song featuring Debbi Blackwell-Cook titled ‘Take On The World’ was also released in conjunction with the film. Directed by Mark Sloper, and released solely in the UK, the documentary is an in-depth expose’ into the merciless world of competitive speed bike racing and a look at the men who have dedicated their entire existence to this incredibly dangerous, adrenaline-fueled sport.

Since the last album release, all three band members have kept busy. Collen continues to hold down his ‘day-job’ as lead guitarist with Def Leppard, currently promoting their Def Leppard Viva! Hysteria Concert live album and dvd release this month. Cook has been working with Edwyn Collins, first on his 2013 album release ‘Understated’, and then touring with Collins playing live shows. Currently, Cook is also playing in Subway Sect with Vic Goddard touring and recording a new album. Laffy has taken his talents into another creative lane, having authored two novels in his ‘off-time’, Red Sunrise and Seed of Satan. Both are historical fictions, set around epic events of the 20th century and are in the process of being published.

It all started in 2004, when Phil Collen, after 20+ years as lead guitarist for Def Leppard, decided to express himself via another creative outlet. After a chance meeting on the street with Paul Cook, MANRAZE finally released their debut album SURREAL through Universal Records in the summer of 2008 to rave reviews. The group’s debut album was chocked full of rebellious in-your-face mantras (“Turn it Up”, “This Is,” “Skin Crawl”, “Running Me Up”) ranging from hardcore punk to dub. They were seen as a cross between the Foo Fighters, Green Day, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, and The Police. MANRAZE is a response to the ever-changing climate of multi-faceted music and should be heralded for far more than just being a ‘rock band’.

Los Angeles hellions, SASQUATCH, will unleash their fourth full-length of red-eyed road rock via Small Stone Records this Tuesday! Fittingly titled IV, the drum and bass tracks were recorded by Steve Lehane and Al Sutton at Rustbelt Studios in Detroit, Michigan while guitars and vocals were recorded by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, Massachusetts (who also produced and mixed the nine-track offering). IV was mastered by Chris Goosman (Acid King, Suplecs, Sons of Otis) at Baseline Audio Labs in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Drawing influence from ’70s metal, rock, and psychedelia, SASQUATCH falls somewhere between an amalgamation of Black Sabbath, old Soundgarden, Deliverance-era Corrosion of Conformity, Mountain, and a bastardized version of Grand Funk Railroad. Their songwriting approach is clear;keep the focus on the hook.

A decade is a significant length of time by any measure, whether you’re talking about accelerating divorce rates or playing in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Add to that the fast-paced changes initiated by technology and a decade can feel like a lifetime… or, in the case of Los Angeles rockers SASQUATCH, a turbulent yet accomplished career.

After bursting onto the stoner rock scene with two closely packed studio albums (conveniently namedSasquatch I and II) in 2004 and 2006, the power-trio went subterranean until 2010 before resurfacing with a new lineup and propulsive third opus (entitled, you guessed it, III), to the relief of many impatient fans and the Small Stone Records Board of Directors.

More importantly though, this career-establishing trilogy managed to seduce consumers and critics: beginning with the debut’s roaring-down-the-highway riffs, hypnotic grooves and occasional forays into southern rock, continuing with the sophomore LP’s increasingly focused, hook-laden hard rock classicism (standout “Barrel of a Gun” lacked only payola to become a massive radio hit), and culminating in the third album’s heightened states of fuzz-distortion and earth-rumbling power chords, capable of reducing Marshall stacks to plastic pudding.

All the while, SASQUATCH steadily brought their advanced heavy rock “theories” to the people, as they demolished stages across the globe alongside the likes of Blue Cheer, Nebula, Unida, Solace and Fatso Jetson. Most recently, the band was sighted marauding across Europe with Small Stone labelmates Roadsaw and Dixie Witch.

Meanwhile, SASQUATCH’s music has been tapped to soundtrack everything from movies (Jersey Girl), to television shows (FX’s Sons of Anarchy, A&E’s Dog The Bounty Hunter, the CW’s The Supernatural, and MTV’s Viva La Bam), to video games (NHL 2005, American Chopper, and Monster Garage).

The time has finally come for SASQUATCH members Keith Gibbs (guitar, vocals), Jason Casanova (bass) and Rick Ferrante (drums) to deliver a brand-spanking new album, whose chosen title – IV – was as inevitable as the urgent need shared by discerning fans of superior, song-oriented rock to hear it. IV is arguably the power trio’s most mature, inspired and diverse song-set to date, rife with compositional twists, both heartwarmingly familiar and totally unexpected, plus thundering power chords, sizzling solos, shrewd melodic flights and even super-trippy moments – but all heavy on the heavy.

A PERFECT CIRCLE – ANNOUNCES THREE SIXTY; A GREATEST HITS COLLECTION AVAILABLE IN STANDARD AND DELUXE EDITIONS ON NOV. 19th

Sept. 17, 2013, LOS ANGELES – A Perfect Circle, the multi-platinum rock band helmed by Maynard James Keenan (TOOL, Puscifer) and Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), issue THREE SIXTY, the outfit’s first greatest hits collection, via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) on Nov. 19.

The release also includes A Perfect Circle’s first new original, studio recording in a decade with the inclusion of By And Down,a song written after the band returned from their self-imposed hiatus for a series of live performances throughout 2010 and 2011.

“Billy and I created A Perfect Circle out of a now long-running friendship, and I think the music we have made reflects that personal connection and has given us the ability to further develop and trust our intuition,” explained Keenan. “I feel THREE SIXTY is an accurate representation of that friendship and those instincts.”

A Perfect Circle formed in the late ‘90s with Keenan and Howerdel making up the core of the band with a number of well-known musicians having recorded and/or toured with the outfit including James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure), Paz Lenchantin (Entrance Band, Zwan), Jeordie White (Marilyn Manson), Josh Freese (The Vandals, Devo) and Tim Alexander (Primus).

The band released their first album, Mer de Noms in 2000, which debuted in the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 and quickly established the group as one of rock music’s biggest bands of the new millennium. Following extensive international touring, A Perfect Circle began work on Thirteenth Step which saw a late 2003 release and landed at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 in its debut week.

The outfit’s third release, a covers’ album titled eMOTIVe, was released on Election Day 2004 and featured re-imagined versions of songs by a varied group of artists including John Lennon, Black Flag, Joni Mitchell and Devo. Following the release of eMOTIVe, Keenan and Howerdel focused on their individual projects with Keenan working on TOOL’s 10,000 Days and launching the multimedia electro-rock outfit Puscifer and Howerdel creating Ashes Divide. A Perfect Circle has sold over five million albums worldwide.

A Perfect Circle also recently announced the release of a limited edition box set titled A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone And Echo. The collection, which focuses on the band’s live outings from 2010-2011 includes a full-length DVD of the outfit’s August 2011 Red Rock’s concert (with accompanying audio) as well as a 3-cd collection of live releases, one dedicated to each of the three studio albums from the band’s discography. SCORPION CHILD – Debut S/T Album Enchants With Classic Hard Rock

SCORPION CHILD – Following in a very long line of flat-out terrific bands from Texas, SCORPION CHILD (from Austin) has apparently mixed together the perfect formula for Classic Hard Rock nectar. Released via Nuclear Blast in North America on June 25th, 2013, this debut and self-titled album from SCORPION CHILD is quite the album that has grown on me.

SCORPION CHILD has proven to me, rather quickly, what they’ve tried to accomplish with their Rock ‘N Roll: a return to when albums were just that. The AOR, Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Stoner and (to an extent) Psychedelic Rock crowds should be absolutely thrilled by this SCORPION CHILD album. Yes, SCORPION CHILD does cover some impressive Rock genre ground here, with their overall sound and stylings they’ve created.

As with Sacramento’s legendary TESLA, this dynamic SCORPION CHILD band can (to my ears) easily fit in with any Rock ‘N Roll crowd. The songs on this debut album are exactly what us retro Rockers could use more of, as it all harkens back to those dreamy 70’s and early 80’s; when vinyl was still king.

Classic Rock influences run wild through this SCORPION CHILD album; easily too many influences to mention, with the spirit of Led Zeppelin, YES and Boston showing through via the guitars, vocals, rhythm section and atmosphere of sound. No worries though, SCORPION CHILD is an original band of cats that won’t have any trouble building upon their already rapidly growing following.

Liquor may be the psyche-you-out hit; only it’s the entire album that wins the Classic Hard Rock badge of legitimacy for SCORPION CHILD. Red Blood (The River Flows) is an obvious Rock epic, at 13:44 long. This ambitious and talented band took a huge risk in including this song on their debut, especially with such a long progressive interval of crickets that bridges this song together. Yes, crickets. Nonetheless, quality breeds success! With the instant gratification society our music industry and mp3 public have unfortunately morphed into, to actually sit and listen to a song that plays for over 13 minutes, in 2013, means you are either a Progressive Rock loyalist or a REAL fan of Rock ‘N Roll. By the way, this epic song is a splendid listen, indeed; just as this entire SCORPION CHILD album is as well.

The final track, Keep Goin’, is a gem of a cover song. Originally written and recorded in 1970, by the legendary Lucifer’s Friend, Keep Goin’ is a dazzling Classic Rock finish to SCORPION CHILD’s debut! Metal be thy name.

Digging deep, Weitz penned a snapshot of her life, from love lost and friendships soiled to internal conflict, leaving a piece of her heart in each track. Weitz tells fans that the album comes from “something so heart wrenching, turned into something positive. All of the pain that I went through was worth it because of the outcome; some of my favorite songs that I’ve ever written.”

The debut album from the pop/rock band was produced by guitarist Chris Fasulo and written by singer/guitarist Abby Weitz. Like the juggernaut you prayed would keep on crushing you, like the friend that still royally pisses off your parents and like a loyal standard of crunchy, greasy, punky, bluesy, gutsy screw-you rock’n’roll, Motörhead stride out through their 38th year brandishing more swagger and attitude then your ears could begin to comprehend.

On Oct 21st, 2013 Motörhead will deliver their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood,it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything Motörhead stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see Motörhead in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motörhead is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

That genre, more than ever, resonates with hearty independence and swashbuckle. Whether it’s “Heartbreaker” throwing hooks and riffs into your head, the double-kick concussiveness of “Paralyzed” with Campbell’s fuelled attack, or the thunderous ride-off-the-Rickenbacker Motörcharge of “Going To Mexico”, Aftershock takes gleeful twists and turns which re-announce the Motörlegend. There’s the smokey biker bar blues in the shape of “Dust And Glass”, Lemmy’s late-night vocals evoking last-call and melancholy, the pogo-powered punk-spiked stab of “Queen Of The Damned” and the deliciously steamy, humid mournful “Lost Woman Blues” which midway through decides to kick over the stool and stomp out the saloon door.

“Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, who’s pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”

“It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong Motörhead album, one that really does define everything this band stands for.”

He’s not wrong. Because Motörhead are Motörhead are Motörhead…and their Aftershock will be felt worldwide…
