Cincinnati, Ohio – The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization has announced the return of one of last year’s most well-received performers. Fort Wayne, Ind., progressive metal act VALHALLA has been added to the already stacked lineup of Warriors Of Metal Fest VII, set to take place June 27  – 28 at O’Shecky’s Live Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio.

Guitarist Justin Zych states: “We’re excited to return this year and bring an even more exciting show to Warriors Of Metal Fest VII! And especially looking forward to jamming with our brothers in metal!”

SAINTS OF REBELLION is ready to release their brand of ‘fusion rock’ to the world. The band completed their debut release, which combines both retro and current musical styling’s into a fusion of in-your-face rock and roll. For the past 8 months, SAINTS OF REBELLION has been in various rehearsal and recording studios from Maryland to Florida writing, preparing and refining their music.

In January 2014, SAINTS OF REBELLION entered The Recovery Room in Conway, AR with producer Ty Sims to record their debut album titled ‘New American Dream’. The title track ‘New American Dream’ is currently streaming for a limited time at this location. PRIZEHOG, the massive, mind-bending Portland-by-way-of-the-Bay-Area trio, exists on their own cosmic plane. Combining meditative grooves, punishing sludge, dazzling melodies, ultra-heavy psych, and crunchy riffs aplenty using a baffling and impossibly cryptic calculus, the outfit has created its own bizarro universe of heaviness. 

Re-Unvent the Whool, PRIZEHOG‘s third full-length release, is a magnificent, powerful LP; a byzantine labyrinth of impenetrable riffs, crushing dirges, heavy hooks, and warped excursions wrapped up in triumphant progressions made complete with downshifted bellows and dark cries; perplexing and mystifying yet grand, spellbinding, enthralling, and uncannily soulful. It’s a record full of depth, complexity, power, humor, and beauty.

Recorded and mixed by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business, Tool, Russian Circles) at his new Sun Valley studio Sound of Sirens, Re-Unvent the Whool is focused, sophisticated, and masterfully produced to showcase the exquisite but intense interaction within the trio: guitars, synths, and drums push and pull one another as they crunch, crush, whirl, weave, and straight up rock their way through mazes of dynamic and dramatic movements, adding layers upon layers to sculpt mountains of sonic majesty. Pitched-down vocals, at once otherworldly and deeply human, shift between omnipotent bellows, soulful wails, and surprisingly gorgeous chants, elevating the whole enterprise to a whole other level. Re-Unvent the Whool is a truly unique vision of genuine heaviness unlike anything you’ve heard, and bears an equally unique cover painting by New York artist Chris Jehly.

Eolian Empire will let PRIZEHOG out of the cages on March 4th via digital download and 180-gram vinyl LP. The street date will be celebrated early at a hometown record release gala on February 28th at Portland’s The Know, sharing the stage with Thrones and Polst. PRIZEHOG is also currently scheduling a full US tour for May, with those dates to be released in the coming weeks. The song comes from GUNPOWDER GRAY’s upcoming 12-inch, seven-tune vinyl EP, which is due out via Boris Records on Record Store Day (April 20).

When they are not performing with Atlanta-based Death Metal grinders Disfigurement, vocalist Nate Godbee and guitarist Adam Besserer pair with three local punk veterans and dig deep down to the roots of heavy Rock And Roll as Gunpowder Gray. The group, which also features Sam Vaughan (bass), Chris Heffernan (guitar and vocals), and Biters drummer Joey O’Brien, captures the blues-tinged, riff driven sound of classic acts ranging from metal progenitors like Black Sabbath and Pentagram to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

On April 20, the band follows up its debut three song demo with a seven song 12″ E.P., its first vinyl release on Atlanta’s Boris Records. Limited colored vinyl (100) will be available on Record Store day.

GHOUL – Masked Mutants Of Creepsylvania To Release Hang Ten Via Tankcrimes; Band To Headline Night One Of Brainsqueeze Fest

In recognition of that holiest of holy days, Record Store Day, the masked mutants in GHOUL are releasing Hang Ten, a limited edition six-song (mostly) instrumental 10″ EP. Featuring guest vocals from Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan) as Henchman #1 and the inimitable R.A. MacLean (ex-Deadbolt) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir.

Hang Ten was recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland (birthing home of Splatterhash, Splatterthrash and Transmission Zero), mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering and sports cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine.

Surely an anomaly in GHOUL‘s catalog, the EP features songs written exclusively in their unique brand of surf metal the quartet has previously only dabbled in. Hang Ten picks up right whereTransmission Zero left off, relaying the tale of a Creepsylvania in tatters, and the terrible power struggle that ensues between two vicious motorcycle gangs. Noted Cambridge University musical anthropologist Dr. Mantle Bannister PhD had this to say about this odd assortment of tenebrous tunes: “Why, it’s quite remarkable. I’ve never heard the like. Is it surf? Not quite. Is it metal? Maybe. Is it jazz? No, that’s a stupid question, unfit for a real life noted musical anthropologist such as myself. It’s from Creepsylvania, you say? Ghastly country. Absolutely crawling with gypsies. Say, old chap, who let you in to my office?”

Night Sacrifice (Demo MMXII) from Chilean traditional heavy metallers, LUCIFER’S HAMMER, is available now digitally on Shadow Kingdom Records. A cassette tape version is tentatively set for a mid-February release; the exact date will be announced soon.  Shadow Kingdom Records’ Tim McGrogan had this to say about the release:

“Shadow Kingdom Records is proud to introduce from the land of Chile, Lucifer’s Hammer! In-studio videos of FOSSILS‘ recording sessions, featuring actual live takes and mixes found onFlesh Hammer, have been leaked out over the past several weeks. So far five full tracks have been released, including, “Critical Mass,” “Cat Stalker,” “Stun,” “Spamtastic” and “Crack Horse.”

The release Flesh Hammer will be celebrated with two Danish release shows, at Radar in Aarhus on February 28th and at Beta in Copenhagen, on March 1st. In the unconventional spirit of FOSSILS, these will not simply be “typical” release shows with the usual canapés and support bands, but instead an overload of awesome musical guests will be involved in each of the performances, not at least at the Aarhus gig where the program is quite overwhelming. Aarhus will see the resurrection of FOSSILS‘ old band, the local high-octane rock n’ roll heroes, Studson playing a sweet set of oldies but goodies. Then FOSSILS will mutate into their own doom version, Slissof, covering an old Cola Freaks-classic with several guests from Cola Freaks, Rising and Studson. Hereafter, FOSSILS will perform Flesh Hammer from beginning to end, and finally the dynamic duo concludes the show when joined by numerous vocalists such as Jacob Bredahl (The Kandidate, ex-HateSphere) and Kim Kix (Powersolo) who will interpret various FOSSILS compositions from earlier releases. In Copenhagen FOSSILS will play a more straight-up set and special guests will be the aforementioned Studson, and a second band yet to be announced.

DROPDEAD – Providence Activists Dispatch Duo Of Joint EPs Via Armageddon Label

Longtime political hardcore/punk activists, DROPDEAD, have just released two brand new EPs via their own Armageddon Label, both of them split releases; one with RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA and the other with SYSTEMATIC DEATH.

Since 1991, Providence, Rhode Island’s DROPDEAD has protested humankind’s attrition towards the environment and its inhabitants, including each other, along the way amassing an impressive arsenal of fully independent releases, including several full-length studio and live LPs, and split releases with Crossed Out, Rupture, Totalitär, Unholy Grave, Suppression, Converge and others.

Having toured internationally, razing clubs, squats and basements on multiple continents for two decades, the band has been a major East Coast US contributor to inspiring entire new generations of extreme music fans to rise up against tyranny and injustice at maximum speed and aggression through their “fucking assholes don’t get it” credo. DROPDEAD‘s latest audio collapses come in the form of two new 7″ vinyl split releases with a pair of high-potency international acts.

One of these brutal head-to-head platters is with Vienna, Austria’s punk shredders, RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA, the female-fronted outfit raging in the riotous vein of Antischism, Capitalist Casualties, Los Crudos and Hellnation. The split leads with “A Fall Of Empires” and “Last Breath” from DROPDEAD on the A-side, and counters with “Donde Esta La Solucion,” “Asco” and “Blanco Y Negro” from RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA on the B-side.

The second new output comes in the form of theFighting For Life 7″ split with longtime Japanese punk/hardcore outfit, SYSTEMATIC DEATH. In existence since 1983 this outfit spews forth rabid political hardcore along the lines of Gauze, S.O.B.,Infest, GISM and Lärm, and here overthrows the B-side of the split with the tracks “Suji” and “Dashing,” while DROPDEAD overloads side A with their newest attacks in the form of “Foundation” and “The Final Chapter.”

Los Angeles, Feb. 11, 2014 – Tweak Bird, the Los Angeles duo featuring brothers Ashton and Caleb Bird, return with their third full-length album, Any Ol’ Way, on May 20 via Let’s Pretend Records.

“We set out to write an album that meant something to us,” explained the Bird brothers.  “We wanted to voice our opinions and feel comfortable. We hired our dear old friend, David Allen to engineer and co-produce, which helped us explore new sounds and develop unfinished ideas. We believe in peace, marijuana, individual freedoms and not taking ourselves too seriously. This just happened to be what came out.”

The 11-track album was recorded at King Size Sound Labs in Los Angeles and is self-described by the pair as having the feel of “a movie from the nineties, that takes place in the seventies.”

Tweak Bird’s most recent full-length, a 2010 self-titled album, was followed by Undercover Crops, a seven-song EP released in 2012, which Noisey called “heavy yet blissful stoner-psych rock”

COFFINS – Tokyo Doom Destroyers Announce U.S. Tour Including Return To Maryland Deathfest

Following their most widely received LP to date with the 2013-released, The Fleshland, Tokyo, Japan’s COFFINS have confirmed a new American invasion this Spring.

COFFINS will bring their diseased, suffocating death-doom decimation back to this side of the Pacific once again in May with a special mini-tour, marking a four-year gap since their previous stateside visit. Bringing forth bulldozing hymns from The Fleshland in addition to their brutal back-catalog of mid-paced grave digging metal, in addition to their recently revamped lineup, beginning May 18th, COFFINS will plunder Chicago, Cleveland, Brooklyn and Philadelphia before closing down the run with their return to Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore on May 22nd, their first time storming MDF since their set at the 2010 edition of the event. COFFINS will be provided with support from Chicago death’n’rollers, Bones, on the tour dates leading up to Deathfest.

On April 18th EDGUY’s 10th studio album SPACE POLICE – Defenders Of The Crown will hit the stores worldwide, followed by a world tour starting in September. The band have just released the cover artwork for this upcoming album.

Last Saturday several journalists had the chance to listen to an unmastered version of the new album and the reaction was overwhelming:
