ABOUT JIZZY PEARL’S LOVE/HATE:

LOVE/HATE has been a fixture on the Hollywood Sunset Strip since they released their debut album on Columbia Records BLACKOUT IN THE RED ROOM in 1990. Since that time, singer Jizzy Pearl has kept the band alive with his own version – JIZZY PEARL’S LOVE/HATE! At the same time, Jizzy played, recorded and toured with platinum artists  such as RATT, L.A. Guns, Steven Adler and currently Quiet Riot. Jizzy Pearl has released five solo records, including 2018’s Frontiers record ALL YOU NEED IS SOUL. 2020 was the 30th anniversary of BLACKOUT IN THE RED ROOM, and to celebrate, JIZZY PEARL’S LOVE/HATE played the entire album in full!

Metal Merch: LITA FORD VIP 2020 Meet & Greet Experience Lanyard

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , on August 2, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

That’s my Lita Ford VIP 2020 lanyard! Unfortunately, I didn’t meet and greet this super legendary lady of Heavy Metal; nor did I attend her show. For that matter, I don’t believe Lita Ford performed too many concerts back in 2020, due to the Covid pandemic.

I purchased this nifty lanyard from the Lita Ford official website for ten greenbacks. Shipping was really cheap too. Yup. I really like to collect diverse band merch and this lanyard is no exception. Thanks for checking it out – Stone.

WHITE CRONE – TO RELEASE “STARGAZER”

Posted in Metal with tags , , , on July 1, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Blues badass turned metal maven, Lisa Mann – mastermind behind White Crone – will release a cover of Rainbow’s Stargazer on July 9th.

Pre-save the digital single:  https://show.co/OgRjenH

Based out of Portland, Oregon, White Crone is the metal brainchild of award winning blues artist and bassist / vocalist Lisa Mann. Growing up in the mosh pits of the 80s, she was inspired by bands such as Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Manowar, Dio and more. A mostly one-woman project, White Crone is a love letter to this grand era of metal, and a lyrical homage to mystical storytelling traditions of yore.

Never losing the blues swagger, White Crone delivers traditional heavy Metal, with traces of prog, proto & black – rounded out with classic Dickinsonian female vocals. All of this culminated in the debut album “The Poisoner”. “The Poisoner”will take you “back to the day.”

Lisa Mann comments: “I was inspired to write metal songs a few years ago, after hearing the band Ghost during the Grammy voting process. I taught myself to play guitar and drums in order to record at home. After I had tracked several songs in my spare time, it occured to me that other people might want to hear this music as well. So I hired a professional drummer (Larry London) to record in a real studio (Opal Studio, Portland OR), added Mehdi Farjami and Vinny Appice to some tracks, painstakingly tracked my own guitar parts, and voila, White Crone was born. As a well known Contemporary Blues artist, I knew it was risky to dive into the field of metal, but I felt the need to pursue this dream. I really just wanted to make an album that I would have listened to when I was 16!”

This heartfelt cover of the classic Rainbow track was mixed and mastered at Opal Studio by Kevin Hahn. Lisa Mann performs on vocals and bass guitar. The bass and keyboard tracks were recorded at home by Lisa and her husband Allen (Bass Salad Studio). Blues Rock artist Alastair Greene (Santa Barbara, CA) plays guitar on the track. On keyboards is Eric Lawrence. The legendary Vinny Appice fills out the Stargazer lineup on drums.

The song is even longer and more self-indulgent than the original, clocking in at almost 9 minutes. It will be released in digital format only on the day before Ronnie James Dio’s birthday, in his honor. It will be available for streaming on select platforms as well as available for download at the White Crone website.

AUTOGRAPH – ‘Turn Up The Radio’ 45rpm Treasure Find

Posted in Metal with tags , , , on June 11, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

A couple of years ago I found this 45rpm of AutographsTurn Up The Radio, at a thrift store. It cost a mere 50 cents. Yes, 50 cents! I was lucky to find this; usually 80s Heavy Metal is nowhere to be found at a thrift store. Collectors tend to hoard the good stuff like this.

I was fortunate to see Autograph open for the fabulous Heart in the latter half of the 80s. Those were the glorious Arena days. I’ve been their fan ever since. Turn Up The Radio is from Autographs’ 1984 debut album: Sign In Please.

Below are more pics of this 45rpm. It’s in excellent playable condition too, with no scratches or scuffs.

KIX CELEBRATES 35-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1985 ALBUM, MIDNITE DYNAMITE, WITH THE RELEASE OF MIDNITE DYNAMITE RE-LIT

RE-MIXED & RE-MASTERED VERSION OF MIDNITE DYNAMITE

OUT NOVEMBER 20, 2020

NEW YORK, NY (November – 2020) In a year full of bad news, KIX is excited to bring some good news to their fans. On the 35th anniversary of the release of Midnite Dynamite, Maryland hard rock icons, KIX will release Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit (track listing below), on November 20, 2020. For Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit, KIX partnered with long-time collaborator and the album’s original producer, Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Ratt, Warrant, KIX), for a blistering update of the fan-favorite album. Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit is available for pre-order now on the band’s webstore where fans can also purchase special commemorative merchandise including T-shirts, hoodies, keychains, and more.

KIX’s third album of their career, originally released October 7, 1985, Midnite Dynamite reflected the band’s true essence, as the popular musical landscape of the mid 80’s had shifted in their favor. From the slash-and-burn riffing of the album’s title track and the high-speed antics of “Layin’ Rubber,” to the Aerosmith flavored groove of numbers like “Cold Shower” and “Sex,” to the heart-break melancholia of the album’s sole ballad, “Walkin’ Away,” Midnite Dynamite is packed with material that delivers not only attitude in spades, but also pummels the listener with hook after hook.

Thirty-five years after its initial release, Midnite Dynamite remains a fan and band favorite, and Hill (who also remixed KIX’s hit album Blow My Fuse to mark its 30th anniversary in 2018) relished the opportunity to return to the original 1985 multi-track tapes.

About the new mix, Hill says, “The guitars don’t have as much schmutz on them as the original, and Steve’s vocal just jumps off the page now without all the bulls**t that I was putting on it then. I guess that’s what happens when you mix and produce for an additional 35 years.”

“Back in the 80s, everything had way too much echo, way too much reverb,” recalls vocalist Steve Whiteman. “It was so muddy that sometimes you would lose some really dynamic performances. Beau cleaned all that up on the Blow My Fuse re-release, and he’s doing the same thing on Midnite Dynamite, so it sounds incredible.”

Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit also includes original demo recordings for seven out of the ten songs, plus one early album mix of the song, “Walking Away.”  “We chose to include a demo disc, like Fuse 30 Reblown, even though we were missing two songs,” says bassist Mark Schenker. “Nobody had a copy on either cassette or two track stereo quarter-inch tape. I searched high and low and couldn’t find the demos of ‘Scarlet Fever,’ or ‘Bang Bang.’”

In 2014, KIX released their seventh full-length album, Rock Your Face Off (Loud & Proud Records) their first studio effort since 1995’s Show Business. The album debuted at #1 on Amazon’s “Hard Rock and Metal “chart, in the Top 50 on Billboard’s “Top 200 Albums” chart, #5 on the “Independent Albums “chart, #11 on the “Top Internet “chart, #17 on the “Top Rock Albums” chart, #27 on the “Indie/Small Chain Core Stores” chart and #33 on the “Physical” chart.

KIX last released Can’t Stop The Show: The Return Of KIX on October 21, 2016, a two-disc DVD/CD set that entered the Billboard Top Music Video Sales chart at #3, and rose to the #1 position, the band’s highest charting debut and first #1 ever in their 35-year history.  The 71-minute film offered an in-depth look into KIX’s decision to record their first new album, 2014’s Rock Your Face Off, in almost 20 years.

In 2018, KIX celebrated the 30th Anniversary of their biggest album, Blow My Fuse, with Blow My Fuse Re-Blown, a two-disc set with a remixed/remastered version of the album, along with the original demo recordings for all 10 songs. The reunion with Beau Hill for this remix sparked the initiative to revisit Midnite Dynamite and take a similar approach to updating KIX’s legacy.

KIX will hit the road in 2021 playing select deep cuts from the album Midnite Dynamite to celebrate the release of Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit. All tour dates can be found on the band’s website.

DON’T SLEEP – COVER TOM PETTY’S “RUNNIN’ DOWN A DREAM”

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on October 16, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

East Coast hardcore torchbearers DON’T SLEEP are celebrating the life and times of Tom Petty, with their previously unreleased cover of the legendary songwriter’s track “Runnin’ Down A Dream.”

Listen To “Runnin’ Down A Dream” Now.

“Tom Petty is a musical treasure,” admits frontman Dave Smalley. “His music is one of those rare things that nearly everyone vibes on – everyone from hippies to hardcore hoodlums. When DON’T SLEEP was talking about what cover song we wanted to do, there were lots of great ideas but there was always one guy saying “yeah but…” But when our lead guitarist Tom McGrath suggested Tom Petty, and specifically this song, there was zero hesitation from anyone. To make a cover great, you need to feel it. And everyone felt it. We tracked this in The Green Room studio in Harrisburg, PA with producer Matt Holmes, and it was done super late in the evening, after midnight. Energy levels through the roof, karma bright. I had a ton of fun singing it, and the words are freaking phenomenal. We salute you Tom!”

DON’T SLEEP’s chemistry is made up of hardcore vets fronted by Smalley, known for his lung-emptying exhales with Dag Nasty, ALL, Down By Law, DYS and others. The band released their debut album Turn The Tide earlier this year (September 4th), produced by Brian McTernan (Be Well, Battery) and Gorilla Biscuits / Youth Of Today member Walter Schreifels. The album follows their two EPs – Don’t Sleep (2017) and Bring The Light (2018). No stranger to the stage, DON’T SLEEP has toured with Shelter, Sick Of It All, Madball, Face To Face, and performed on the final Vans Warped Tour in 2018.

Eddie Van Halen – Forever

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on October 8, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

Guitar World – February 2009

I express my condolences to the family, friends and fans of Eddie Van Halen. What else can be written about Eddie Van Halen which has not already been written or said? He was beyond incredible playing the guitar, writing songs and pioneering entirely new and wondrous sounds to Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal combined.

The Van Halen albums are like baseball and apple pie, to me. American made, West Coast Hard Rock. Historically speaking, Van Halen dominated Hard Rock during those very late seventies and stretching well into the early nineties. A music icon, is Eddie Van Halen. I, like countless others, have accepted the sounds of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar like it is an appendage. Eddie Van Halen’s guitar playing always sounds so familiar, comforting, inspiring, exhilarating, personal and monumental, all rolled up together like a sacred security blanket.

Rest and Rock in peace, Eddie Van Halen. Thank you for sharing your musical magic with the world; to be enjoyed by generations forever.

I still cannot wrap my head around this year thus far; it has been a nightmare directly from hell. – Stone

SCORPIONS – ‘Big City Nights’ – A Look At A Terrific Greatest Hits CD From 1998

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, world news with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 27, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

Many years ago, I bought this cool Scorpions CD: Big City Nights (Rebound Records). I remember buying it new and it was pretty cheap; the price was around $5 or so. I believe it was Walmart that had this CD too; sometimes my memory amazes me, despite not remembering what I ate for dinner yesterday. Truth. Here is a one-sentence rant before I continue: Scorpions should be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!!

Okay, I shall continue onward. I love this band. Every era of Scorpions I love. I was fortunate to see them headline the M3 Rock Festival back in 2010, with my great/best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale. What a fun time. Just about every song on this Big City Nights compilation was performed by the Scorpions at that M3 Rock Festival; at least to the best of my (once again) amazing memory. Chuckle, chuckle. I’ve presented the tracklist for this CD below, no worries.

I have grown extremely tired of Still Loving You and I’m certain I’m not alone. That song never really hit me. No big deal for it’s the only Scorpions song out of their iconic catalog that I just skip over. Rock You Like A Hurricane is teetering on the edge of being tiresome for me. What saves this song for me at this point is the guitar solo. Enough negativity! I do get psyched out of my cranium by Can’t Live Without You, No One Like You, Big City Nights and Rhythm Of Love. All these songs I’ve mentioned in this post are on this CD.

I’m happy I bought this Scorpions CD when I did. I have no plans to get rid of it either. That’s a good thing, due to my selling off of many CDs in recent years. As you look over the tracklist on the back of this CD, you’ll see there are 4 songs that are live versions. The live songs are from the stupendous World Wide Live from 1985, with the exception of Wind Of Change which is from Live Bites (1995).

Granted, this CD compilation is missing many classic Scorpions songs; heck, it’s only one CD and I’m certain it was never meant to be a definitive Scorpions greatest hits package. Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey, I truly appreciate it. Please stay safe out there, help out one another and… Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

My Recent Metal Music Purchases – METAL CHURCH, CULTURAL WARFARE And A Classic Rock Gem!

Posted in Metal with tags , , , , , , , , on May 22, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

METAL CHURCH have been on a surging comeback the last several years and we can all thank the Metal Gods for that! I needed to buy their recent release From The Vault on cassette, so I can play it loud in my very old and beloved car. During this pandemic, I purchased this cassette online directly from the mighty Rat Pak Records. METAL CHURCH are incredible to their fans and an experience to see in concert. I had to throw that in. Dig it?

CULTURAL WARFARE deliver the Thrash bounty on their EP Future Kill. I just discovered this outstanding band too. These dudes are from Oakland, California and each band member is obviously seasoned with their Bay Area Thrash Metal roots. Get this, I compare their overall sound to our East Coast Thrash Metal icon, aka, OVERKILL. Hey, that’s a superb Metal compliment! Another pandemic purchase I made online, buying this CD directly from M-Theory Audio.

Right before all hell broke loose with the evil coronavirus, I grabbed this cassette tape version of TRIUMPH‘s Never Surrender. A classic. I bought it at a Goodwill store for a meager 99 cents! It plays like new too. Please ignore that yucky price sticker on the cassette box; I’m going to remove it eventually with the magical Goo Gone. Never Surrender released way back in 1982. Heck, Prince William, Duke Of Cambridge was born back in 1982; on June 21st to be exact. Now I feel kinda old.

Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey and reading this post. I appreciate it more than you know. Leave a comment if you like! In Metal We Trust. Stay safe out there. – Stone

Check Out My FOUNDRY Autographed Band Photo!

Posted in 1950's rock and roll bands, Metal with tags , , , , , on May 6, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

Sometime back in January of this year, I discovered that (Hard Rock supergroup) FOUNDRY were selling their band photos autographed for only five bucks! Plus this included 2 large band logo stickers. Whoa! I jumped on that offer like greased lightning! This cool discovery was on the band’s facebook timeline. There was an automatic entry to win a band signed guitar from FOUNDRY, with this purchase. Another prize was concert tickets to see FOUNDRY for life.

I didn’t win the guitar. I didn’t hear about winning the lifetime concert tickets either. Hell, I never win shit. I could enter a contest being the ONLY entry and I’d still lose. Still, owning this autographed photo is a delight and no I’m not selling it or trading it.

FOUNDRY as shown on the above autographed photo: Chris Iorio (guitarist), Marc Brattin (drummer), Mark Boals (vocalist) and Björn Englén (bassist).

That’s the sticker above. I’m not gonna stick it onto anything at the moment; gonna keep it as a collectible item. Okay, since I have 2 of the stickers I’ll slap one on the back of my old car. Maybe. Thank you for reading about my stuff, I greatly appreciate it. Stay safe out there and cherish life, liberty and Rock ‘N Roll. – Stone
