Metal fists - 4.5 - metal odyssey

Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

KYNG – The power trio of KYNG are from Los Angeles, California and their sophomore album, Burn The Serum, was released on April 15th. KYNG plays eyeball popping Heavy Rock, embedded with muscular Stoner and Classic Rock stylings for good damn measure. KYNG has tapped into such a prolific hard and heavy sound that they’ve rubbed elbows within the Metal Universe with ease.

As for the album, Burn The Serum has proven to be one of the very, very best investments I’ve made all year with my music purchases. KYNG comes across musically, as if they’ve booted the status quo of Hard Rock into bloody submission, never to rear its boring and carbon copied head ever again. Whoa. This power trio can play and if you don’t believe or agree with me, then your grandma’s dusty ABBA vinyl collection and her old Readers Digests are calling for you.

The lead single, Electric Halo, from Burn The Serum, showcases soaring and melodic vocals from guitarist/vocalist Eddie Veliz which reminds me of a time when singers really did sound like superheroes; and all I wanted to do was grow up to be that super dude I’m hearing on the 45 rpm. I harken back to the day, when I spinned Bad Company’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy for hours on end. Oops… back to 2014.

KYNG delivers all things powerful on Burn The Serum and if this sophomore release is any indication, to me, the Heavy Rock universe is the limit for this band. This power trio was born to be KYNG. ‘Nuff said and… Metal be thy name. – Stone

From Massacre Records:

Welcome to the Massacre Records family, VANISH!

Traditional metal meets modern synth sounds and progressive elements – with this combination VANISH prove that classic elements and modern metal elements can co-exist. The band’s compact songs with heavy riffs, strong melodies and bombastic parts create a unique and new sound.

Their songs deal with ever-present themes like mortality, anxiety or social problems. VANISH is a band that can look back on more than 14 years of live, studio and songwriting experience and that puts a lot of passion, effort and creativity into their music.

The band’s current line-up, consisting of Bastian Rose (vocals, keyboard), Tommy Rösch (guitar), Philipp Schönle (guitar), Daniele Dei Giudici (bass) and Ralf Nopper (drums), exists since more than a decade.

VANISH want to prove that innovative metal can inspire everyone – not only metal fans. In the past few years, VANISH rocked numerous clubs and festivals and supported bands such as Queensryche, Brainstorm, Mystic Prophecy, Axxis, Freedom Call and Kissin’ Dynamite.

VANISH’s upcoming album “Come To Wither” is set to be released in autumn 2014 via Massacre Records!

SEPREVATION – Release New Music Video ‘Slave To The Grave’

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 25, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Seprevation - promo band pic - 2014 - #66930

On the run up to the release of their debut album ‘Consumed’, UK Death Thrashers Seprevation today release a music video for ‘Slave To The Grave’.

Guitarist Joss Farrington comments: “The concept was to play on the themes of ‘Slave to the Grave’ and actually give the viewer the visual image of us decaying and covered in gore.”

‘Slave To The Grave’ was shot in the bands home city of Bristol, England at RS Studios and it was directed & edited by Doug Anderson of Visceral Video with a helping hand from Janey Hayes who took care of the special FX make up.

Watch ‘Slave To The Grave’ Here!

Seprevation - Consumed - promo cover pic - 2014

“Truly evil sounding Death Metal from Bristol, true to the 80′s and 90′s masters. For fans of Death, Possessed, Sadistic Intent etc.” – Terrorizer Magazine

That aforementioned is just one of many descriptions made of the Death/Thrash maniacs. Formed in 2011 in Bristol, England; since their inception Seprevation have been quick to cause a riot, touring throughout the UK with a battery of hate filled lyrics and a sound to kick your pearly whites to dust, Seprevation are here for a reason and one reason only… to shatter and destroy.

May 10th 2014 will see the release of ‘Consumed’, the debut full length album and follow-up to EP ‘Ritual Abuse’.

Joss comments on ‘Consumed’: “I think fans of ‘Ritual Abuse’ will really like it, it’s more of the same in many ways, plenty of shred and old school worship but it’s definitely steering in our own direction, as the writing process went on the songs became more and more diverse, songs like ‘Between Two Worlds and Dreams’ were written last and you can really hear the difference.”

“If you thought ‘Ritual Abuse’ was pretty great then buy this because it’s 100 times better, 3 words – Old School Worship.”

INANIMATE EXISTENCE – Technical Death Metal Faction To Unleash Second LP Via Unique Leader; Album Teaser Posted

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 24, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Inanimate Existence - A Never Ending Cycle Of Atonement - promo cover pic

California Technical Death Metal faction, INANIMATE EXISTENCE, who feature within their ranks members of Brain Drill and Son Of Aurelius, will unleash their sophomore effort, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement, this Summer via Extreme Metal merchants, Unique Leader Records.

Tracked by Max Zigman (Son Of Aurelius, Smaragos) at Parade Outrageous in Santa Cruz and produced by Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement boasts eight conceptual tracks of progressive punishment.

The follow-up to 2012’s Liberation Through Hearing, which MetalSucks championed for its “erie, psychedelic themes richly animated by the grandiose contrast between shamanic atmosphere and uncompromising brutality,” finds INANIMATE EXISTENCE’s signature, over-the-top compositions elevated to an entirely new level of profundity. Each movement marvels at its own innovative density as intricate guitar structures coil seamlessly around complex rhythms and infernal vocal tirades, all the while maintaining an absorbing magnetism that draws exploratory listeners in with each new measure.

Inanimate Existence - promo band pic - band logo - 2014 - #03703

The record includes several guest musicians who offer female vocal accents, clarinet, bass flute, harp, bongos and other nuances to the proceedings, only adding to the record’s already confounding depth.

A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement – Track Listing:

1. Om Mani Padme Um
2. Omen
3. Bioluminescent Photophores
4. The Rune of Destruction
5. The Catacomb Of Mirrors
6. Staring Through Fire
7. Out of Body Experience
8. Dueling Shadows

INANIMATE EXISTENCE’s A Never-Ending Cycle Of Atonement will be released on June 24th, 2014 via Unique Leader Records. Special preorder bundles will be available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, wrap your head around the album teaser below:

Kaotoxin records is proud to announce the inking of a multi-album deal with French Deathcore masters DEEP IN HATE.

Born in 2004 and having released two full-lengths before signing to Kaotoxin, Deep In Hate, who features Nicolas Basto (ex-Aborted / L’Esprit du Clan) on drums, evolved from a technical Deathcore outfit to a much more personal brand of melodic and catchy, yet still technical, brand of Deathcore. The band’s focus is on writing catchy tunes and developing an oppressive atmosphere by blending dark melodic hooks with technical leads and wall-crushing breakdowns in a very dark, suffocating and yet utterly efficient way.

Touring with the likes of Black Dahlia Murder, appearances at Sonisphere and other European festivals and an inherent desire to push the boundaries of brutality to unimagined levels have all lead Deep In Hate down an evolutionary path that plateaus this June with their Kaotoxin Records debut, Chronicles of Oblivion.

With a massive production and artwork by Above Chaos (Hellfest, Bethlehem, Nightfall), Chronicles of Oblivion features nine heavy and intense, yet melodic song-oriented tracks. Rooted less in tech-metal than previous efforts, Deep In Hate seek to develop a more hook-laden approach to Deathcore. This shift is demonstrated in the new music video they’ve unleashed in support of Chronicles of Oblivion. Recorded live at Sonisphere 2013, the video for “New Republic” can be seen below:

Chronicles of Oblivion – Track Listing:

Introduction

Genesis of Void

The Cattle Procession

Altars of Lies

New Republic

The Unheard Prayers

The Divide

___________________________

With this brilliant new release Deep In Hate morphs influences from bands like Whitechapel, Despised Icon, Aborted, Gojira and Decapitated into a sound that’s all their own. The band aims to conquer new territories and enlarge an already impressive following by touring as much as they can everywhere in support of this massive new album.

Available as a limited edition (1,000 copies at first press) deluxe DigiSleeve CD, Chronicles of Oblivion will be available worldwide on June 3.

Pre-orders for the album and exclusive bundle deals with brand new merch will start on May 6, at the Kaotoxin Web Shopwww.shop.kaotoxin.com.

INTERNAL BLEEDING – New York Death Metal Legion Joins Unique Leader Records; Video Teaser Posted

Internal Bleeding - promo band pic - 2014 - #9989

Unique Leader Records is pleased to welcome long-running New York-based death metal legion, INTERNAL BLEEDING, to their expanding roster of audio severity.

For over twenty years, INTERNAL BLEEDING has been at the forefront of the underground Death Metal scene, boasting a relentless DIY work ethic, consistently intense live performances and a commitment to composing some of the heaviest music possible, their breakdown-laden approach directly responsible for the establishment of an entire subgenre of Death Metal, aptly titled “slam” (a term they began using as early as 1992).

Founded in 1991 by guitarist Chris Pervelis following the demise of original band, Autumn Reign, it all began with a case of 300 blank tapes reportedly “found” at a local university. The tapes provided the inspiration to set up a four-track to capture The One Dollar Demo. The following year, INTERNAL BLEEDING recorded their Invocation Of Evil demo, which went on to sell an impressive 5500+ copies through now-defunct Wild Rags Records. The band returned to the studio to track another demo in early 1994. The resulting Perpetual Degradation remains a certified classic in the annals of Death Metal.

Internal Bleeding - Imperium - promo album banner - 2014

Maniacal self-promotion combined with a tireless dedication to their craft, the band eventually made their way to 1994’s Milwaukee Metal fest, where their captivating live show possessed the eyes and ears of Pavement Music, who released their Voracious Contempt debut in 1995. Following a slew of tours both stateside and abroad, label and lineup shifts and four more works of sonic brutality with 1997’s The Extinction Of Benevolence, 1999’s Driven To Conquer, 2000’s Alien Breed compilation and 2002’s Onward To Mecca, it seemed the band had virtually disappeared without warning.

In early 2011 however, Pervelis decided to pick up the proverbial pieces and contacted original members Bill Tolley and Brian Hobbie. The three agreed to reunite and began re-learning INTERNAL BLEEDING’s classic back catalog. With the addition of Jason Liff on bass and legendary frontman Keith DeVito (ex Suffocation, Catastrophic, Pyrexia) handling vocals, the band is again poised to level all in its path. Last month, the band officially signed a two-record deal with Unique Leader Records. Their fifth studio album, Imperium, will be out in the Fall of 2014.

In the meantime, check out the Imperium album teaser below:

INTERNAL BLEEDING:

Keith DeVito: Vocals (ex-Suffocation, Catastrophic, Pyrexia)
Chris Pervelis: Guitar
Brian Hobbie: Guitar (ex-Catastrophic)
Bill Tolley: Drums
Jay Liff: Bass

SERPENTINE PATH – Debuts First Single From Sophomore Relapse LP

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , on April 17, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Serpentine Path - Emanations - promo cover pic - 2014

Relapse Records has just released the first single to be released from the second LP from NYC morbid Sludge Metal kingpins, SERPENTINE PATH.

The highly anticipated follow-up to SERPENTINE PATH’s self-titled 2012 debut, Emanations, is the band’s first studio venture featuring new second guitarist Stephen Flam, the mastermind behind NYC doom/death legends, Winter – aligned with founding members Tim Bagshaw (ex-Ramesses, ex-Electric Wizard) and a triad of ex-Unearthly Trance members, bassist Jay Newman, drummer Darren Verni and vocalist Ryan Lipynsky (The Howling Wind). Capturing forty-five minutes of true sludge punishment from this true underground all-star team, Emanations was recorded by Newman, as with their debut, after which it was mastered at Audiosiege, the album dredging forth the band’s most demoralizing and anguish-filled slow-motion chaos yet, and fittingly enshrouded by striking artwork by in-house Relapse artist Orion Landau.

“Disfigured Colossus” is the fourth of Emanations‘ seven grueling tracks, and has been today released in several methods of dispersal, now playing at Youtube and Soundcloud HERE.

Listen to Disfigured Colossus, below!

Emanations will see release through Relapse on May 27th, 2014 on CD, LP and digital formats; preorders for the album can be placed HERE, and via iTunes HERE.

ELECTRIC WIZARD – FORGE WORLDWIDE ALLIANCE WITH SPINEFARM RECORDS

Electric Wizard - promo band pic - 2014 - #049930

NEW LP SET FOR RELEASE VIA SPINEFARM, IN LEAGUE WITH THE BAND’S ‘WITCHFINDER RECORDS’ IMPRINT

_____________________________

April 17, 2014 – Visually intoxicating, uncompromisingly heavy and revered for making music and lifestyle one, Electric Wizard have completed work on their new studio album, title to be confirmed; the album will be the band’s first release through Spinefarm Records.

Formed by vocalist / guitarist Jus Oborn in 1993, Electric Wizard (based in the UK’s South-West) have thus far released seven studio albums – an increasingly influential body of work recorded on vintage analogue gear with as little technology as possible intruding on the signal (“Protools is for pussies!”).

Result: some of the heaviest, dirtiest, most evil-sounding audio ever put to tape, and more importantly to vinyl, with both Come My Fanatics (1997) and Dopethrone (2000) being lauded as landmark releases.

A cultural as well as a musical force, Electric Wizard have left an indelible mark on a host of different genres, the likes of doom, stoner and sludge; at heart, however, they stand as an iconic British Metal band, cast in the great tradition, with lyrics and artwork reflecting the hypnotic weight of the music, and subject to the same intelligence and detail.

___________________________

Wreathed in occult ritual and drug-culture references, with classic ’70s horror an inspirational seam, Electric Wizard are poised to turn a page; there’s the new deal with Spinefarm Records, plus – after a nine-year hiatus – the return of Mark Greening (the drummer on Dopethrone), who completes the line-up of Oborn, US guitarist Liz Buckingham, a key member since 2003, and new bassist Clayton Burgess (Satan’s Satyrs).

Fueled by strong emotion and the harder sounds of late-’60s Detroit, the remodeled line-up – isolated by choice, giant stacks glowing red – set about crafting an eighth studio album to both rival and exceed the milestone recordings of the past, with Buckingham keeping things suitably monolithic and the band generally looking back to some of their earliest influences.

Toerag Studios in London was once again charged with capturing ‘The Sound’, and (encouragingly) words like “raw”, “hateful” and “sickeningly heavy” are being traded.

Says Oborn: “Our master plan is this. Real metal!! We stand for rebellion, we are with the kids; we fight, puke, smoke weed, etc… Electric Wizard is an entity, with its own history, its own symbols, its own iconography, and with this new album, we wanted to return to basic values. It’s primitive. We needed to claw it back down to the evil core – sex, drugs, violence, revolution… to go back to being a band that hung out and jammed hard. No teaching songs, just feeling them out. If you jam enough and you are on the same level – artistically, musically, whatever, you gotta be committed – then good music will happen. I totally believe that…”

___________________________

DARKENTRIES “The Make Believe” – 5 Song Debut EP Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

4 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4

DARKENTRIES is a Post-Sludge band from Columbia, South Carolina and one of the first signed bands to Kylesa’s new record label: Retro Futurist. Overall, this 5 song debut EP from Darkentries, The Make Believe, is a blend of extreme, macabre sound, vibes and emotions. If you can picture how the Melvins would sound being phenomenally pissed off, coupled with the dark anger of Trillion Red, then you’ll (hopefully) know what Darkentries is serving for Metal dinner… and it’s not your grandma’s mac and cheese.

With all of that above blab stated, Darkentries are unique, with an overriding Doom Metal quality and forceful energy about their Metal. If you like to be scared straight, then play this nifty EP in a total dark room by yourself. The vocals alone are an extreme showstopper and quite possibly from dark places unknown to mankind. Don’t allow the band’s look (see photo at bottom) deceive you. This band isn’t looking to share their time mulling over imported tea and biscuits; this Darkentries crew is instead looking to dominate a Metal genre and kick your eardrums into submission. Cool.

Darkentries plays at such a potent level of Post-Sludge Extreme and their Metal has an impressive enormous bite; their debut should catapult their career both among the underground dwellers and those above that know better. That’s my Metal assessment, anyways. Dig it? I sure dig Darkentries. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Hit the Bandcamp play button below and get your senses torched by Darkentries! Then buy their Metal and support this talented Metal act!

Track Listing: TV FUZZ, HONEY EATER, I’M TIRED OF BEING AWAKE, 1200-S, FEEDBACK FUNERAL

MALPRACTICE – Finnish Progressive/Thrash Act Signs With Sensory Records

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , on April 15, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Malpractice - promo band pic - 2014 - #29003

As they continue to investigate the progressive realms of the Heavy Metal universe, New Jersey-based Sensory Records confirms that Finnish quintet, MALPRACTICE, has become the newest addition in the label’s roster.
Formed in 1994 in Kouvola, Finland by guitarist, Joonas Koto, MALPRACTICE started out as a thrash act. Following the release of self-financed debut MCD, Memorial, in 1996, the band cast aside their most aggressive influences and opted to explore a more progressive direction, which was apparent on their second MCD, Frozen, released later the same year. Without a deal in place, MALPRACTICE recorded an album’s worth of material in March 1998, which became their first full length album, Of Shape And Balance, released via Mastervox Records in September of that year.

Following a brief hiatus, and reactivation in 2004, MALPRACTICE signed with Spinefarm/Universal. This also began the band’s cooperation and friendship with producer/engineer, Anssi Kippo at Astia Studio (Children of Bodom, Sinergy, Norther, etc.), with the recording of their second full-length, Deviation From The Flow, and into the 2008 release of their third album, Triangular, which not only expanded their forward-thinking style, also reinvigorated some of their early thrash elements.

In 2010 the band self-produced their own outstanding demo, which eventually became their fourth album, Turning Tides. As their contract with Spinefarm was expired, the band sought new pastures, and given the more melodic and progressive nature of their style, found solace in Laser’s Edge offshoot, Sensory Records, who is now preparing Turning Tides for proper worldwide release this Summer.

Turning Tides represents MALPRACTICE at their absolute best, combing intricate Progressive Metal with catchy melodies topped with excellent musicianship and brilliant vocal harmonies, and a must-hear for fans of Queensryche, Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Megadeth.

Final release details on Turning Tides will be released in the near future.

MALPRACTICE:

Joonas Koto – guitars
Toni Paananen – drums
Aleksi Parviainen – vocals
Markus Vanhala – guitars
Jonas Mäki – bass

Black Label Society - Catacombs Of The Black Vatican - promo album flyer - 2014 - #035050

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY – The 9th studio album from Black Label Society was released on April 8th, 2014. The lead music video for this album is My Dying Time, which was released back on March 31st, 2014. This unreal cool music video was directed by Justin Reich.

Zakk Wylde shreds on lead guitar and kicks ass singing, per usual! You’ll also see new (and great) guitarist Dario Lorina at the beginning of this music video. Dario Lorina toured with (the late) Jani Lane and is a former member from the legendary Lizzy Borden. My Dying Time is a grand song from BLS, therefore, this music video is…

Zakk Wylde – Vocals, Guitar

John DeServio – Bass

Dario Lorina – Guitar

SKINFATHER “None Will Mourn” – Debut Album From SoCal Metal Band Wreaks Havoc!

Skinfather - None Will Mourn - promo cover pic - 2014 - #100

4 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4

SKINFATHER – The debut album, None Will Mourn, from Southern California’s Skinfather, will be released on April 22nd, via Streetcleaner Records. Fans of Hardcore, Death Metal and/or any Extreme Metal will get a Metal kick out of Skinfather. There’s plenty of vocal rage and cheerlessness to go around, with riff heavy, maniacal and (at times) groove laden, speed driven songs. There’s even a touch of old school Doom with the memorable instrumental Atraxia.

The thick, crunchy and relentless guitars and eruptive rhythm section of Skinfather are a damn cool listening experience, for my Metal hungry brain tissue. Definitely support and give Skinfather a listen; this band comes across as being true to the Metal model of extreme. Metal be thy name. – Stone

None Will Mourn – Track Listing: Ordeal By Fire, Drown In Black, Born Of Despair, Hellish Grave, Atraxia, Dead Still, Calloused, Planes Of Ruination, Impaled
