Detroit Prog quartet TILES has confirmed several new live appearances in the weeks ahead, and in addition, the band has just issued a short new video endorsement from Mike Portnoy.

Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, Flying Colors, Dream Theater) praises the new TILES double album Pretending 2 Run backstage after The Winery Dogs show in Detroit. Portnoy and his son Max (Next To None) supply guest drums to the album – simultaneously, the first time the two have been recorded together – in addition to other luminaries including Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Adam Holzman (Steven Wilson), Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) and Kim Mitchell. The record was produced by Terry Brown (Rush, Fates Warning) and is finished with artwork by Hugh Syme (Iron Maiden, Rush, Dream Theater).

Released in April through the Laser’s Edge Group, Pretending 2 Run is sitting comfortably in the Top 20 of many monthly readers’ polls throughout Europe and is being hailed as one of 2016’s best Prog albums. PROG issued, “the Detroiters really turn up the heat,” calling the band’s delivery, “imaginative, expansive, colorful, diverse and more satisfying than ever.” Classic Rock claims, “whoever invests their time into Pretending 2 Run will have enjoyed every single second.” All Music stated, “Who says the concept album is dead? Brilliant.” iO Pages says, “TILES is still at the top of the progressive rock world. Pretending 2 Run will finish high in many year-end lists.”

Says Eclipsed, “Pretending 2 Run is an enormously complex album that reveals new secrets with each play.” Progression Magazine rated the record 4/5 including, “This album clearly sounds as if it took years to make. ‘Shelter In Place’… ranks as one of the strongest, most memorable tunes in the band’s catalog.”

Sea Of Tranquility’s 4.5/5 review boasts, “In a year when we’ve seen two longtime prog veterans, Dream Theater and TILES, release lengthy concept albums, I have to give TILES the nod as the more successful of the two…” Music Connection’s review includes, “they’ve upped the ante by giving the listener a double disc with an engaging storyline, meticulously arranged string and choral pieces, sweet vocal harmonies and tuneful jam-based rock, fusion and world beat sounds,” and About.com’s 4/5 review said, “Pretending 2 Run gives prog rock fans everything they could want in a big album.”

Headbanger’s Lifestyle praised, “TILES has delivered a real masterpiece extraordinaire,” and Absolute Zero Media notes, “Lush and epic prog metal – very, very impressive!” Musipedia Of Metal hails, “A progressive masterpiece. With so many great prog albums this year already, Pretending 2 Run could possibly be the best.” Polyprisma issued, “TILES has created something technically breathtaking and far beyond the norm,” and Profil Prog crowns the record, “A jewel of originality. Highly recommended!”

FAITH NO MORE – Reissue Landmark Debut Album, “We Care A Lot”, On August 19th

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on June 6, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

FAITH NO MORE REISSUE LANDMARK DEBUT ALBUM, WE CARE A LOT, ON AUGUST 19th VIA KOOLARROW RECORDS

LONG OUT OF PRINT RELEASE GETS DELUXE TREATMENT WITH NEW MIXES, DEMOS AND LIVE RECORDINGS; PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW

“With We Care A Lot, I always felt like I was part of something new and different than anything else out there at the time. It made me feel privileged to be a part of it. The other guys were so cool, and there was so much camaraderie. And that came across in the music; Bordin’s drums battling it out with Billy’s bass in antagonistic harmony, Roddy’s melodic atmosphere, swallowed up by Jim’s crunchy metal riffs. I found my place somewhere between them all, and when the album was finished, it didn’t sound like anything else.” – Chuck Mosley

Faith No More - Promo Cover Pic - 2016 - #MO999ILMF99333

SAN FRANCISCO, June, 2016 – Faith No More’s landmark debut, We Care A Lot, which was initially released in 1985 and has been out of print for 20 years, sees an Aug. 19 reissue via Bill Gould’s Koolarrow Records.

“This was an album that started as a demo, before any label had any interest in us,” explained Faith No More bass player Bill Gould. “There were a couple of reasons we decided to release this now: first of all, it’s been 20 years since it has been commercially available. Secondly, when cleaning out my basement, I discovered the original master reels, and we all thought that resurrecting this from the original tapes would be a great way to reintroduce We Care A Lot into the world. Lastly, this has been a band effort; we are releasing this in the same way as we recorded it, deciding everything amongst ourselves and getting our hands deep into the nuts and bolts… just like we used to.”

The original 10-song album, remastered by Maor Appelbaum via the original reels Gould alluded to, is enhanced with nine bonus tracks including demo versions (taken from the original 8-track tapes) of “Greed,” “Mark Bowen,” “Arabian Disco” and “Intro,” live versions of “The Jungle” and “New Beginnings” and new mixes, via Matt Wallace, of “We Care A Lot,” “Pills for Breakfast” and “As The Worm Turns.” Liner notes from keyboard player Roddy Bottum and behind-the-scenes photos will be included with the physical release.

We Care A Lot (Deluxe Band Edition) is available now for pre-order on CD:

Faith No More - We Care A Lot - 1985 - promo band pic - #MO99ILMFN33

We Care A Lot arrived in November 1985 via Maximum RocknRoll editor Ruth Schwartz’s Mordam Records. The seminal album, boasting the timeless title track, which can still be heard daily on radio stations worldwide, confounded music fans and critics alike. As Pitchfork said in a 2015 article dubbed “The Misunderstanding of Faith No More,” the unpredictable and hard-to-define band “had radically altered the parameters of popular music years before the fabled alternative revolution.” Rolling Stone called it a “raw punk album” while Select Magazine dubbed it “a lustful marriage of mutoid metal and dance floor verve.”

“When strangers ask what Faith No More is I’ve always said, ‘well, it’s kind of an art band…’ I say that mostly to distance us from the hard rock world that we’re often times lumped into. I mean, hard rock, sure, that was part of it, but our roots most definitely and pointedly stem from a specific freakout art time and place in San Francisco, a time that no longer exists. In 1982, the hippies mingled with the punks, the artists hung out with the musicians, the dance people and the punks were one and the Satanists and the sexual pioneers… all part of the same scene,” Bottum explains, colorfully setting the scene for the original inspiration for the band and We Care A Lot. “That weird SF window provided a platform from which we were free to express and cultivate a really uniquely odd sound experience. In Los Angeles, no one really cared much, but SF was always super supportive, encouraging us, directly and not, to get our collective freak on.”

“We felt like it was time to take the next step,” adds drummer Mike Bordin. “We raised as much money as we were able and booked time at Prairie Sun Studios just north of San Francisco. I can’t remember how long it took us to record the album, but not a lot, maybe a few days. The songs were sharp from having played most of them at various shows. Very stripped down, basic as could be. The place was on a farm in chicken country (Petaluma). Hard work, but a ton of fun too.”

We Care A Lot (Deluxe Band Edition) Track List:

1. We Care A Lot
2. The Jungle

Eight-Time Grammy® Award Winner Jeff Beck’s First New Studio Album
In Six Years Set For Release From Atco On July 15

This Summer, Beck Will Also Release His New Book BECK01, Tour With
Buddy Guy, And Lead A Special Career-Spanning Concert At The Hollywood Bowl

_____________________________

LOS ANGELES – On Jeff Beck’s forthcoming studio album LOUD HAILER, his first in six years, the legendary guitarist combines fluid fretwork with topical lyrics to make a powerful statement about everything from the love of power, to the power of love. LOUD HAILER will be available on Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, on July 15 on CD ($18.98), LP ($21.98), and digitally.

Loud Hailer, which is another name for a megaphone, is a suitable moniker for an album that isn’t shy about speaking its mind. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer explains: “I really wanted to make a statement about some of the nasty things I see going on in the world today, and I loved the idea of being at a rally and using this loud device to shout my point of view.” The album’s first single, the riotous rocker “Live In The Dark,” will be unleashed soon.

JeffBeck_LoudHailer Cover - #MO99ILNFSO393

To help him write the 11 tracks on LOUD HAILER, Beck enlisted two fierce young females from London: singer Rosie Bones and guitarist Carmen Vandenberg. It was a chance meeting with Vandenberg last year at a birthday party for Queen drummer Roger Taylor that eventually led to the trio’s collaboration. “She invited me to one of their shows, and I was blown away,” the guitarist recalls. “When we got together in January, I explained the subject matter I had in mind, we sat down by the fire with a crate of Prosecco and got right to it. The songs came together very quickly; five in three days.”

Beck produced LOUD HAILER with Filippo Cimatti, who also works with Rosie and Carmen. In addition to the core trio, the album also features drummer Davide Sollazzi and bassist Giovanni Pallotti, who were both recruited by Cimatti.

Bones lends her powerful voice to nine of the 11 songs on LOUD HAILER, including the intense album opener “The Revolution Will Be Televised,” the reflective ballad “Scared For The Children,” the funk infused “O.I.L.” and the tranquil album closer “Shrine.” The album is rounded out by two signature Beck instrumentals in “Pull It” and “Edna.”

A few days after the album’s release, Beck will launch a summer tour of the U.S. with blues legend Buddy Guy. And on August 10, Beck, with special guests to be announced shortly, will make his Hollywood Bowl debut for a very special, career-spanning concert that celebrate 50 years of ‘dynamic music making.’ “It will be head teacher Beck in a gown and mortar board in front of the class giving everyone a history lesson,” he jokes. The show will also include an orchestra.

Over the course of Beck’s illustrious 50-year career, the trailblazing guitarist has earned many accolades. He has twice been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. First, as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and then again, as a solo artist, in 2009. Rolling Stone ranked him as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and he has earned a total of eight Grammy Awards during his long career. In addition, Beck has been a guest performer at scores of sessions with everyone from Stevie Wonder and Buddy Guy to Tina Turner and Mick Jagger. Throughout his career, Beck routinely makes the fantastically difficult sound effortless.

In addition to recording LOUD HAILER, Beck has been hard at work on his first official book, BECK01 (Genesis Publications, jeffbeckbook.com). Available on July 12, this signed, limited edition book explores Beck’s passions for hot rodding and rock ’n’ roll.

Inspired by the sleek curves, luxurious finish and iconic imagery of the hot rods he builds, BECK01 is hand-bound in leather and aluminum with every book numbered and personally signed by the author, Jeff Beck. The guitarist’s handpicked selection of more than 400 rare and unseen photographs and items of memorabilia is narrated with an original manuscript of nearly 20,000 words, making BECK01 the definitive visual and historical record of the dynamic musician. Included is an eloquent forward by John McLaughlin that begins, “Jeff Beck is my all-time favourite guitarist, what do I say after that?” Indeed.

PRINCE – A Music Icon Now Rests In Peace

Posted in classic rock, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on April 23, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Prince - Purple Rain - promo pic - #9900PF33

Over the past day, I’ve given much thought about the loss of PRINCE to the world of music. Little did I realize I would write this post in the manner I did. I live for Metal and still I live for music. As I began to break it all down, I realized how immensely important PRINCE really, really was to popular music. Below, I have attempted to look at the Popular Music world with the sad omission of PRINCE, as a bystander and not a fan.

____________________________

Such amazingly sad news to know that PRINCE is no longer alive. Unreal. I truly enjoyed the music videos of PRINCE, back in the day. There was always so much going on in every PRINCE video; they were colorful in both the spirit of his songs and visually. MTV must have made tens of millions in advertising revenue from the PRINCE music videos too. Warner Bros. sure made a ton of money from PRINCE.

Like so many pop culture legends of the 80’s, the songs from PRINCE always make me reflect back to those days when all I had to worry about was myself and where I was going to party next. Like Whitney Houston, the songs from PRINCE were constantly played on the radio; avoiding them was impossible and I subsequently became a quiet fan of both of these music icons. These were the FM radio days and not the instant gratification of satellite radio (of the here and now) where stations are stylized down to a single artist.

Prince - 1999 - promo album cover pic - #MO0999INABJ

When I stop to think about it, there is absolutely no mainstream Pop or mainstream Rock artist alive today that has the talents, musical diversity, uniqueness, image, impact and charisma that PRINCE embodied. Michael Jackson and David Bowie are gone, so unfortunately cross them off your list. Please excuse me if I don’t consider Madonna as our crowning glory of present day popular music. Some may make the case for Usher, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars having the same impact as PRINCE; only I feel they all fall just short of PRINCE. American Idol, The X Factor and The Voice never discovered anyone light years close to PRINCE. Nadda.

Lady Gaga is a bona-fide legend; only she copied from PRINCE, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Carrie Underwood is an unenergetic singing statue. Metallica just hibernates now and Van Halen are a pale ghost of what they once were. KISS is an iconic band in their own right, only they’ve had plenty of songwriting help over the years and suffered through an identity crisis during the 1980’s. Now you see my point? Seriously. All those boy bands that pop their immature heads out for every generation just plain suck. PRINCE was… PRINCE.

Prince - The Very Best Of - promo album cover pic - #MO099INH

PRINCE may have had his musical influences, still, PRINCE copied no one. Unlike today where it seems as if every mainstream Pop artist (and Country artist for that matter) is feeding off of each other like robotic copycats. Certainly, the Hard Rock and Metal worlds have their copycats too. Who is really left, in the mainstream world of Popular Music that leaves us all in both (original) entertainment and musical awe? The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Paul McCartney are well past their prime and God bless them for still going.

The Who lost their luster back when bassist John Entwistle passed away. Bruce Springsteen? Jon Bon Jovi? Nope. No comparison when it comes to the complete musician and songwriter that PRINCE was. With that said, comparing PRINCE to those aforementioned is comparing apples to cucumbers, in my opinion.

If I had to pick my 2 favorite PRINCE songs, they are: “Raspberry Beret” and “Little Red Corvette”. PRINCE truly was the total musical package. Growing up in the 80’s, PRINCE was an enormous part of American Pop Culture and his songs seemed to be played just about everywhere; from the video arcades to the roller rinks. I learned a long time ago that we cannot take our musical heroes for granted, they are just as human as we and share this planet with us for such a brief period of time. Rest In Peace, PRINCE. – Stone

DIGIPAKS STINK LIKE MONKEY POOP. HERE’S WHY…

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, humor, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , , on October 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 11.21.37 PM

Below you will find the Top 10 Reasons Why Digipaks Stink Like Monkey Poop. Enjoy.

______________________________

  • Digipaks crease, ding and tear VERY EASILY, even with delicate handling.
  • Even before you buy the damn digipak version off the retail shelf, it’s already dinged, creased or torn. That’s bullshit.
  • Guess what happens while taking the plastic wrap off of a digipak? You ding it. That’s insane bullshit.
  • It takes patience and skill to get the damn CD and liner notes out of the digipak sleeve. After doing so, the cardboard sleeve is dinged from your fingernails; not to mention the liner notes took a nasty beating too.
  • Digipaks get CRUSHED when stacked underneath a pile of CD jewel cases. Hell, a couple of magazines can crush a digipak. Again, that’s bullshit.

This is NO laughing matter!!!

Laughing Monkey - promo pic - 2015 - #667MO66777MNSSC

  • A digipak has NO defense against any liquid. At least a CD jewel case has a freaking fighting chance in protecting the liner notes and CD itself. Trust me, I know ALL about that one.
  • If you wanted to bury your digipak in the ground, for safekeeping, the life expectancy of the cardboard is 4 weeks. That’s intense bullshit.
  • A damaged CD jewel case can be easily replaced. A damaged digipak stalks your music collection, like the uninvited pain-in-the-ass that nobody gives a shit about. Do not get alarmed, for the respective CD and liner notes will always find themselves a new home inside a spare and cozy… jewel case.
  • Just opening and closing a digipak automatically CREASES the spine; not to mention leaving visible fingerprints all over the cardboard. That is unreal bullshit.
  • Purchasing a used CD as a digipak version is never a fun moment. The digipak 99.9% of the time is so freaking mishandled, dinged and worn; not to mention the disease ridden bacteria that has probably been absorbed by the cardboard itself. Yay. Um, bullshit.

Delta Deep “heated up the room with a set of songs from their self-titled debut album. From the kickass opening number, Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”, the gathering was introduced to Blackwell-Cook’s husky, swampy, deliciously bluesy voice,” raved New Noise Magazine

The band tore through originals such as “Bang The Lid”, “Miss Me” and “Shuffle Sweet” as well as covers like “Mistreated,” to the delight of the fans. The Who’s 1982 tour, which was all in North America, apart from two warm-up dates at the Birmingham NEC in England, was their last to feature Kenney Jones on drums and they wouldn’t tour again until 1989. This concert film features the show from the second of their two nights at New York’s Shea Stadium and was filmed on October 13th of 1982. Although a couple of tracks have appeared on compilations, this is the first official release of the full show and features restored footage and newly mixed sound.

RENOWNED BASS PLAYER – STU HAMM – ANNOUNCES EAST COAST TOUR DATES

Posted in bass guitar, classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on June 1, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Stu Hamm - publicity pic - 2015 - #0601MOSHB

Having stunned audiences across the world with his innovative playing, STU HAMM has made a name as the go-to bass player for the world’s great musicians. Time spent playing with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani has cemented his place among the greats and gave HAMM the platform to display his pioneering bass techniques to adoring crowds worldwide. Now, promoting the release of his newest solo album, The Book Of Lies, HAMM takes to the road with new music and will also debut his petite suite for solo bass.

The breadth of HAMM’s range is legendary and is what is at the heart of The Book Of Lies. The title track introduces a fine style, complete with a subtle blues bass-line, later evolving into a funk jam with horns and guitar. “Back To Shabalalla” owes a debt to the loping, infectious rhythms of Afrobeat, while “Etude” is a classical piece of the type that made HAMM famous. The amazing final piece, a seven-minute epic titled “L.S.D.” ranges from a Beatles homage to a fully-leaded bass shredfest.

A gut rumbling mix of new and old hits, mixed with HAMM’s trademark humor, make for a unique show like no other. The Tour will begin on July 6 in Largo, FL and wind its way up the east coast to a grand finish at The Iridium in New York on July 16th. Joining Stu in The Stu Hamm Band are Alex Skolnick (Testament) on guitar and Joel Taylor (Allan Holdsworth, Al DiMeola) on drums.

Big Brave - promo band pic - 2015 - #010525MO

Southern Lord is pleased to announce the signing of Montreal trio, BIG|BRAVE.

The three-piece plays sincere, long-form out-rock that ventures in to different directions, at times mournful and unsettling, their music plays out in to moon-bleached grunge where serene vocals crumble over scraping guitars bled of melody.

The new BIG|BRAVE album is penciled in for a late summer release, recorded with Efrim Menuck (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra) at Hotel2Tango. This will add to a growing discography comprising their debut EP An Understanding Between People (2013) and the debut LP Feral Verdure, which they recorded at Paradise Studios with Jon Boles, and self-released in September 2014. There’s high expectation of great things to come…

Stay tuned for more news from Southern Lord and BIG|BRAVE.

DEF LEPPARD LEAD GUITARIST PHIL COLLEN ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF NEW VENTURE – DELTA DEEP

Delta Deep - promo band 4 panel - 2015 - #05PCMO003

Delta Deep -promo album cover pic - 2015 - #052215PCMO

DELTA DEEP Is A New Soulful Blues Rock Project Featuring:

Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Debbi Blackwell-Cook (Michael Buble, Luther Vandross) and Forrest Robinson (India.Arie, Joe Sample & The Crusaders)

Special Guests include Joe Elliott, David Coverdale, Paul Cook & Simon Laffy

_________________________

(Los Angeles – April, 2015) Phil Collen, lead guitarist of Def Leppard, announces the formation and release of his new blues based music project, DELTA DEEP, coming this summer. Collen recorded the mix of original and hand-picked cover tracks with fellow DELTA DEEP bandmates Debbi Blackwell-Cook (back-up vocalist for such artists as Michael Buble & Luther Vandross), Forrest Robinson (drummer for India.Arie, Joe Sample & The Crusaders, TLC), and Robert DeLeo (bassist for Stone Temple Pilots). Their self-titled debut album will be released on June 23, 2015 on Mailboat Records and also features special guest appearances by Def Leppard vocalists Joe Elliott, Whitesnake’s David Coverdale, Sex Pistols/MANRAZE drummer Paul Cook, and GIRL/MANRAZE bassist, Simon Laffy.

Collen initially started DELTA DEEP in 2012 after jamming at home over the course of a year with friend and relative, Debbi Blackwell-Cook (Blackwell-Cook is the Godmother of Collen’s wife, Helen). What started as a casual pairing singing Motown and classic blues staples while Debbi frequently visited Collen’s home quickly turned into much more. Collen, Helen, and Debbi began writing original music which Collen and Debbi recorded in Collen’s home studio.

Later that year, a chance meeting re-acquainted Collen with Memphis native  and enigmatic heavy metal, jazz, & r-n-b drummer Forrest Robinson. A friend suggested giving STP bassist Robert DeLeo a call. Sharing a loving affinity for soul, funk and the blues, DeLeo was the perfect fit. According to Collen, “We really wanted Robert in this band. He had the added firepower of being the premiere pioneer and most ‘badassed bass player’ to come out of the alternative rock explosion.

The best description of DELTA DEEP, a multi-racial band, has been “Aretha and Tina in their prime singing over early Zeppelin”. Original song and lead off single “Bang The Lid introduces the musical synchronicity of Collen, Blackwell-Cook, DeLeo, & Robinson. Blackwell-Cook also duets with Collen on the album tracks as well as with featured vocalists Def Leppard’s Joe ElliottMistreated and Whitesnake’s David CoverdalePrivate Number. Legendary Sex Pistol’s punk drummer Paul Cook and Collen’s former bandmate from GIRL bass player Simon Laffy” guest on the classic cover Black Coffee.  Guesting on the Delta Deep original song, “Burnt Sally” is  keyboardist, CJ Vanston (Tina Turner, Toto, Joe Cocker, Carol King) adding to the soulful tune on the Hammond 3 Organ.

Collen is widely known to millions of rock ‘n roll fans for his iconic albums with Def Leppard. When asked what made him decide to do a blues project Collen responded, “Blues was created out of something completely different from what we hear today. I grew up listening to rock music but then I found out it was all based on blues. Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, all of those guys….they got it from the blues. When I hear Debbi sing, I can hear the pain. She’s an incredibly beautiful 62-year-old black woman who has been through things and she can sing through her pain. Not everyone can do that and not everyone sounds like Debbi.”

While many artists aim to make their mark by creating new genres or introducing their own new versions of music, Collen and DELTA DEEP melded their blues inspirations with who they are as artists and are unleashing that expression onto the world.

Check DELTA DEEP’s website www.deltadeep.net and facebook.com/deltadeepblues for breaking news, new content, and tour information.

When and where?

Tue 17th March – 5:30pm – hmv Birmingham Bullring

Recorded in Las Vegas with producers Kevin and Kane Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch), Papa Roach release their eagerly anticipated new album F.E.A.R. The band preserve the robust riffs and swaggering rhythms that marked their initial call-to-arms, while seamlessly infusing cinematic electronic flourishes, sweeping hooks and magnetic melodies.

The first single and title track explodes into an arena-ready refrain that’s as anthemic as it is atomic. Muscular guitars give way to an industrial stomp before sparking an uplifting and undeniable chant. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix said of the album to Kerrang! “There obviously has been an element of hope within the despair of the music that we write, and I think that that’s always key, and that’s very important to waht we do, is to always have the element of hope, and that’s laced throughout the record.”

Papa Roach visit hmv Birmingham on the day that their ‘F.E.A.R’ world tour hits Birmingham’s 02 Academy.

Scott Coverdale Gets “Hooterized” By “Both Sides Live / The Electric Factory” From The Hooters

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on February 21, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

The Hooters - The 30th Anniversary Fan Collection - promo cover pic - #2011THMO0221

As a curious crusader of reflecting on my youth in the 80’s, I started recollecting some of the concerts I saw with my buddies from 1984 to 1989 and tried to remember which shows were good or not so good. We must have seen anywhere between 30 to 40 shows, during that time. Out of nowhere The Hooters came to my mind. I remember seeing them twice as an opening act; once for Bryan Adams and the other time for Loverboy.

As I recall, I thought The Hooters were good and nothing spectacular. As a band I liked quite a few of their songs from their first two studio albums Nervous Night and One Way Home, both of which I owned. After 1987/1988 The Hooters just kind of disappeared from the mainstream Rock scene. To be honest, I really didn’t seek out any new material this band may have recorded.

Now that The Hooters were on my mind, I needed to know what I’ve missed from them over the past 25 years. As I did my research, I discovered this band released 4 more studio albums and 2 live albums. My curiosity persuaded me to purchase a four CD mini box import set titled: The 30th Anniversary Fan Collection. This box set was issued in 2010 and includes 2 studio albums, Time Stands Still and 5 X 5 along with 2 live albums Both Sides Live Disc 1 Live At The Electric Factory and Both Sides Live Disc 2 Secret Sessions Live Acoustic. For the purpose of this post I’m only going to focus on the Both Sides Live/The Electric Factory CD 2.

The Hooters - 30th Anniversary Fan Collection - backside cover promo - #2010THMO0221

Above: back cover & complete track list

After listening to this disc for the first time, I was blown away! I never expected to hear such a tremendous Rock N’ Roll album.   The Both Sides Live/The Electric Factory Disc 2 includes 13 tracks from their 6 studio albums. The concert begins with I’m Alive, a song from their Time Stands Still album. This would be the first time I heard this song! It’s an excellent tune that sets the mood for the entire CD. Over the course of the next 12 songs, more than half consist of their big 1980’s hits: Day By Day, Satellite, Johnny B and my favorite All You Zombies. I’ve always loved the beginning of that song and recorded live it’s even better!

In my humble opinion every song on this CD sounds better when performed live, compared to the studio versions. They even ”Hooterized” a cover of the Don Henley song classic Boys of Summer which is quite good. The concert comes to a Rockin’ conclusion with the song Free Again, also from the Time Stands Still album.

If you’re looking for something a little different from the latest Rock Music norm and want to enjoy some phenomenal Rock ‘N’ Roll performed by a bunch of fantastic musicians, I would recommend purchasing this CD from The Hooters. Hopefully, you’ll be singing along to most of the songs just as I did. I’m thrilled that I took a chance on purchasing this Hooters Box set, for after all these years I find the music of the Hooters spectacular. – Scott Coverdale

Bad Wolf’s state-of-the-art musicvideo pays homage to several different fairytales, including Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty & the Beast, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. The filming of the video took the band to the Angeles National Forest, where they got up close and personal with the wolves on set. “It was amazing getting to work with real wolves, just seeing them in the forest while we were shooting was magical, and we knew it would push this video over the top!” says lead singer, Kota Wade. “We’re so excited to be able to represent our ‘Wolfpack’ (as we call our fans) with real wolves and a very ‘big bad wolf’ storyline in this video!” Consisting of an elaborate set production and astonishing costumes, Bad Wolf kept a keen eye on the details when developing the storyboard for the ultimate fairytale vision. “In this video we wanted to tell a love story, something we haven’t done in our previous songs, but in a Bad Wolf, dark, faerie rock way!”

Apart from being full-time members of Bad Wolf, the foursome has attained success within their respected individual careers. Kota Wade is a member of the pop group, Girl Radical, organized by *N Sync’s, JC Chasez.  She has also graced the cover of LA Weekly, as “One of LA’s Most Interesting People” for her role as owner and operator of the all ages Hollywood venue, Amplify. Tommy O. is currently an electrical engineer who holds a patent in the field of deep brain stimulation. Aside from being a musician, Vigil is also a model and an actress, and can be seen as the lead in the Black Veil Brides movie adaptation, Legion of the Black. With a strong passion to assist kids, drummer Tim Falco is presently obtaining his teaching credentials for adapted physical education for students with special needs.
