LOUDBLAST – Signs With Listenable Records

Legendary French Death Metal band LOUDBLAST have signed with Listenable Records for the follow-up to 2011’s Frozen Moments Between Life and Death. Due out later this year, the band’s newest album will be titled Burial Ground.

A solid mix of classic and modern influences, the latest output from these Death Metal veterans dares transgressing their traditional Thrash/Death style of yore to achieve a much more malign yet as catchy sound. Burial Ground benefits from a massive production and sees the band evolving in further darker sounds while retaining the original 90s classic Death Metal roots.

EDGEDOWN – Reveal First Album Details, Post Short Teaser Video

The band started to work on the album in early 2012 and entered the Dreamsound Studios in Munich, Germany, in summer 2012.

Jan Vacik and his team, Daniel Rehbein and Dejan Djukovic, took care of the recordings, the mix and the mastering.

CRYSTAL EYES – Signs With Massacre Records

We’re happy to announce the signing of Sweden’s Heavy Metal quartet CRYSTAL EYES!

The story of CRYSTAL EYES began back in 1992, when Mikael Dahl and Niclas Karlsson formed the band to keep the legacy of Heavy Metal set in the 80’s by bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath.
During the mid 90’s, the band built a strong underground reputation with the release of 4 demo tapes.

The debut album “World Of Black And Silver” was released in 1999, followed by “In Silence They March” in 2000 both via CLM. Both albums received great reviews.

“Vengeance Descending” hit the stores in 2003, released on Heavy Fidelity, and led to CRYSTAL EYES playing at the Sweden Rock Festival in the same year. Mikael handed over the microphone to Daniel Heiman, who was featured as new vocalist on the band’s 4th album “Confessions Of The Maker” (2005).

Also in 2005, CRYSTAL EYES returned to Sweden Rock as opening act. This gig was the only one with Daniel on vocals, who was then replaced by Søren Nico Adamsen in late 2005.

The two following albums “Dead City Dreaming” (2006) and “Chained” (2008) were both mixed by Fredrik Nordström, with whom the band once again worked on the upcoming album.

Søren Nico Adamsen left the band in 2009 and Mikael took over the microphone again.

CRYSTAL EYES celebrated the band’s 20th anniversary in 2012 with special gigs including former band members and songs from every record. In the past decades, CRYSTAL EYES also supported bands like Blind Guardian, Yngwie Malmsteen and Candlemass.

CRYSTAL EYES’ new album “Killer” is set to be released later this year via Massacre Records!

BEHEMOTH “The Satanist” – A Remarkable Album And Fan Loyalty = Album Chart Success

BEHEMOTH – There’s no question that the tenth studio album, The Satanist, from Poland’s BEHEMOTH has made a lasting Metal impact upon the Metal masses. I see this current album/digital chart success as a telling reminder to the status-quo mainstream: that quality Metal exists and will never say die! Both the commendable Metal and artwork of The Satanist, coupled with BEHEMOTH’s (ever-growing) loyal fan base have made a profound Metal statement during this month of February.

Album chart success for an Extreme Metal band is not an example of selling-out; instead it’s an example of the Metal cream rising to the top. Hard work and dedication to one’s craft shall pay dividends; in the case of BEHEMOTH, the Metal dividends are (in my opinion) well-earned. This recent chart success for BEHEMOTH also means that their fans have spoken and spent their hard-earned money on The Satanist, while any illegal downloaders can march straight into the douche-bag posers lounge and drink stale prune juice.

Minotauro Records To Release New OGRE Album “The Last Neanderthal”

Recharged Italian label Minotauro Records has announced the upcoming release of The Last Neanderthal from Portland, Maine’s Heavy Metal Doom rockers OGRE on February 21, in Europe and March 8 in North America.

The band’s fourth full-length release continues OGRE’s splendid combination of classic proto-metal (BLACK SABBATH, BUDGIE, DUST), a touch of ’70s prog rock (most notably RUSH), and a heaping dose of vintage doom (SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM). The Last Neanderthal even includes a cover of “Soulless Woman” by a different OGRE, a ’70s bar band from the Pacific Northwest.

OGRE will celebrate the release of The Last Neanderthal with a CD Release show on March 14, at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland, Maine. For show details, click HERE.

OGRE History:

OGRE formed in 1999 when Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals) joined forces with Ross Markonish (guitar) and Will Broadbent (drums), who had been playing together in several bands in the Portland, Maine music scene. Together, Ed, Ross, and Will quickly wrote and recorded a 4-track demo cassette that garnered high praise in the underground Doom Metal and Stoner-rock community.

In 2003, the band self-released its first full length, Dawn of the Proto-Man, to critical acclaim. The disc created enough buzz to get noticed by Japan’s Leafhound Records, who put out the band’s second and third albums, Seven Hells in 2006 and Plague of the Planet in 2008, the latter album being reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records in 2009. After a decade of playing shows up and down the East Coast as well abroad (Japan Tour with Church of Misery and Blood Farmers in 2008), OGRE returned to its cave in September 2009.

Coaxed out of hibernation after several years, the band played a handful of local shows and began writing new material that would eventually comprise its fourth album, The Last Neanderthal, to be released by Minotauro Records (Italy) in March 2014. As one of the first currently active bands to be signed to the newly-recharged Minotauro, OGRE is ready to stampede into the next phase of its career.

86 PROOF “Long Hard Rocker” – 1994 Album From California Heavy Rock Band Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

86 PROOF – The lone album from Sacramento, California’s 86 PROOF is Long Hard Rocker. This terrific album was released back in 1994 and is not very easy to find as a CD. I’m certain it was never released on vinyl. Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale did find this CD and turned me onto this one-hit-wonder of a Heavy Rock band, therefore…

86 PROOF – Long Hard Rocker Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

One can easily classify 86 PROOF as having a Hair Metal sound, while others can call 86 PROOF a Heavy Metal or straight-up Hard Rock band. Regardless, the overall style of this band screams late 80’s, regardless of its 1994 release year. I find it rather interesting, that many new Heavy Metal bands tried very hard to (still) break into the Grunge and Post Grunge era of the 90’s; 86 PROOF is proof of this, (no pun intended).

The opening track, It’s All Mine, has the strong resemblance of MASS meets Killer Dwarfs, while 86 PROOF collectively sounds very much like Mötley Crüe, (Too Fast For Love era), on the track Climb On Top and throughout this album. Venice Straights is an electric guitar instrumental that lasts 1:07 and is a cool listen; only it would have been more fitting for it to appear as the opening or closing track on this album. Go figure. The title track, Long Hard Rocker, is a guitar driven bonus and my favorite song on this album.

There honestly is not a whole lot of information to find, on the internet, about 86 PROOF. Seriously. It’s a shame. I was able to find the album cover (top of post) and a band photo (below):

Any die-hard will surely realize that the lead singer sounds very, very much like Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil. The production is raw enough for me to fall in love with, proving to me that this band was not trying to sugar coat themselves into the mainstream; that’s always a plus for my ears. I know this may sound cliché, still, if this 86 PROOF album was released between 1984 and 1989, a follow-up or 2 probably would have been likely.

86 PROOF will forever be a small part of Heavy Rock history, there is no doubt. I would have liked to have seen them live; maybe opening for Cinderella or Slaughter? At least this album is for sale on Amazon.com in a digital download format. There currently is a used copy of Long Hard Rocker for sale on ebay; its buy it now price is $29.99 (U.S.). I’ll also add the condition of this used copy on ebay is like new, with the photo of its liner notes and CD supporting that claim.

Like their name suggests, OMNIVORE are equal-opportunity devourers. Their raging full-length shows that they clearly consumed old Death/Thrash acts from Europe and the U.S. – think Massacra, Merciless, and Sadus – as well as the more-familiar Bay Area bands, represented here by the use of gang vocals, some melodic lead parts, and even a startlingly well-played acoustic passage. Of course, one of their biggest influences is revealed by the hidden bonus track at the end, a cover song that implores you to “Arise!”

Hailing from Varese and spawned in 2011 from the ashes of Nightmare Of Fallen, Omnivore is already a project on hold. The band’s lone album (so far at least) is going to burn down villages and consume the fleeing villagers.

MacLean (ex-Deadbolt) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir.

Recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland (birthing home of Splatterhash, Splatterthrashand Transmission Zero), mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering, with cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine. Hang Ten picks up right where Transmission Zero left off, relaying the tale of a Creepsylvania in tatters, and the terrible power struggle that ensues between two vicious motorcycle gangs. Fort Wayne, Ind., progressive metal act VALHALLA has been added to the already stacked lineup of Warriors Of Metal Fest VII, set to take place June 27 – 28 at O’Shecky’s Live Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio.

SAINTS OF REBELLION is ready to release their brand of ‘fusion rock’ to the world. The band completed their debut release, which combines both retro and current musical styling’s into a fusion of in-your-face rock and roll. For the past 8 months, SAINTS OF REBELLION has been in various rehearsal and recording studios from Maryland to Florida writing, preparing and refining their music.

In January 2014, SAINTS OF REBELLION entered The Recovery Room in Conway, AR with producer Ty Sims to record their debut album titled ‘New American Dream’. PRIZEHOG – Eolian Empire Prepares To Release Third LP From Celestial Space Sludge Trio

PRIZEHOG, the massive, mind-bending Portland-by-way-of-the-Bay-Area trio, exists on their own cosmic plane. Combining meditative grooves, punishing sludge, dazzling melodies, ultra-heavy psych, and crunchy riffs aplenty using a baffling and impossibly cryptic calculus, the outfit has created its own bizarro universe of heaviness.

Re-Unvent the Whool, PRIZEHOG‘s third full-length release, is a magnificent, powerful LP; a byzantine labyrinth of impenetrable riffs, crushing dirges, heavy hooks, and warped excursions wrapped up in triumphant progressions made complete with downshifted bellows and dark cries; perplexing and mystifying yet grand, spellbinding, enthralling, and uncannily soulful. It’s a record full of depth, complexity, power, humor, and beauty.

Recorded and mixed by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business, Tool, Russian Circles) at his new Sun Valley studio Sound of Sirens, Re-Unvent the Whool is focused, sophisticated, and masterfully produced to showcase the exquisite but intense interaction within the trio: guitars, synths, and drums push and pull one another as they crunch, crush, whirl, weave, and straight up rock their way through mazes of dynamic and dramatic movements, adding layers upon layers to sculpt mountains of sonic majesty. Pitched-down vocals, at once otherworldly and deeply human, shift between omnipotent bellows, soulful wails, and surprisingly gorgeous chants, elevating the whole enterprise to a whole other level. Re-Unvent the Whool is a truly unique vision of genuine heaviness unlike anything you’ve heard, and bears an equally unique cover painting by New York artist Chris Jehly.

Eolian Empire will let PRIZEHOG out of the cages on March 4th via digital download and 180-gram vinyl LP. The street date will be celebrated early at a hometown record release gala on February 28th at Portland’s The Know, sharing the stage with Thrones and Polst. PRIZEHOG is also currently scheduling a full US tour for May, with those dates to be released in the coming weeks. Preorders for the album are now live at the Eolian Empire fort HERE.
