Obituary - Classic Band Logo - 2013 - #4

Now celebrating the 25th anniversary of their landmark Slowly We Rot full-length, Tampa Death Metal icons, OBITUARY, have been perpetually busy finding new methods of ways to bring fans closer to their audio carnage through worldwide concert streams and all-access backstage giveaways.

Most recently, the band offered up a Pay Per View, professionally shot live stream of their homecoming performance at The Orpheum which featured a pummeling all classics setlist from their first three platters of brutality: 1989’s Slowly We Rot 1990’s Cause of Death and 1992’s The End Complete.

This week the band continues to spread their timeless audio devastation with an On Demand, regionally based, virtual tour and live chat with fans. The PPV live stream from the aforementioned Florida show will be presented in full HD quality from multiple camera angles to specific regions and OBITUARY will be in live chat mode for the duration of each show! The show will remain On Demand to fans who initially purchase the stream to watch as many times as they wish.

Said the band in a collective statement: “We couldn’t be more excited about watching this stream with our fans! We have performed this classic set list on every corner of the planet, so for us to have the chance to watch it live and chat about it with the fans we’ve been playing for all these years is amazing. We are celebrating 25 years since the release of Slowly We Rot and we want you to party with us!

LONG LIVE WITCH CROSS \m/\m/

kevmoore's avatarMoore:Music ®

Today, reunited Danish heavy metal cult WITCH CROSS stream the entirety of their comeback album, Axe to Grind, at tastemaking web-portal InvisibleOranges.com. Released this week by HELLS HEADBANGERS on both CD and LP formats, WITCH CROSS’ Axe to Grind is the band’s first full-length of all-new material since 1984’s heavy metal classic Fit for Fight, reissued to widespread acclaim last year by HELLS HEADBANGERS. Picking up where they left off in the glorious ’80s, WITCH CROSS nevertheless inject their trademark power & glory with a newfound urgency and grit that never betrays their roots in the ancient ways of heavy metal mayhem. Neither “old school” nor “new school,” WITCH CROSS prove that the masters are back – and school’s in session! Hear the proof for yourself, as the entire album is streamed for a limited time courtesy of InvisibleOranges.com: http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2013/07/album-stream-witch-cross-axe-to-grind/

To The Pain - Large Band Logo - 2013

New York metallers TO THE PAIN have unleashed their self-titled, self-released debut full-length upon the world. Factor in a fistful of modern attitude and technical prowess and you’ve got one goddamned powerful, dynamic and straight-up METAL record in To The Pain.

TO THE PAIN – BIO:

In the summer of 2010, singer John Intagliata, and guitarist Steve Shaver sat down in Steve’s studio, The Locker, to see if they could record some songs they wrote when they were teenagers in 1989. After recording one of their old tunes, they got the itch to write some new music. What followed was nine months of writing, and recording at “The Locker”. Steve and John wrote 6 new songs, and re-recorded an old song; ‘Silent Horror.’ After listening to playbacks of the songs, they looked at each other and said “we need to put together a kick-ass band, and bring these songs to the masses.” Thus the concept of TO THE PAIN was born.

Their original concept back in 1988 was a cross between Racer X, Megadeth, Metallica, King Diamond, and Queensryche. The newer version retained the Racer X crazy guitar solos, and the political angst of Megadeth, while adding a bit of the new school flavor of Bullet for My Valentine, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage, to form a new and refreshing old school flavor of Metal. Joining John Intagliata (Vocals) and Steve Shaver (Lead Guitar) in TO THE PAIN are Jeremy Lustig (Bass Guitar), Mark Trojanoski (Rhythm Guitar), and Jimmy Klimatas (Drums).

To The Pain - band promo pic - 2013 - #1

TO THE PAIN’s self-titled debut is a lyrically diverse excursion. Taking on anything from politics, to the evil that men do, TO THE PAIN is not one to ever hold its tongue on any subject. Stylistically, the band’s music goes from full on thrashers like ‘For The People, Buy The People,’ to slow Sabbathy brutality on ‘The Smell of Sulfur.’

In 2012/2013 TO THE PAIN started with a slew of shows, bringing their energetic live show to such venues as EvenFlow Bar, JD’s Place, Village Pub,Katies of Smithtown and Mr Beery’s. With the scheduled summer 2013 release of their debut, TO THE PAIN hopes to bring the metal to the masses and continue to build on their following.

Kiss - Kids - additional covers - issue #1 - promo

As reported on the KISS Facebook page:

Subscription variant cover featuring the “adult Gene” is by Bruce Timm.

The retailer incentive cover featuring the first KISS album cover redo is by Jose Holder and Jeremy Colwell.

______________________________________

Stone Says: I really dig the “adult Gene” cover version! Whoa! Nice job Bruce Timm! The other cover is done superb as well; hopefully another generation of KISS fans can be grown from these comics! I didn’t subscribe to this KISS KIDS comic; I guess the “adult gene” cover won’t be available at newsstands due to it being for “subscription only.” Maybe I’ll locate it elsewhere down the Metal road.

If I see these KISS KIDS comics at the newsstand, I’ll probably buy 1 copy at a time and file ’em with my KISS Kollection. I cannot help myself. As Cinderella’s Tom Keifer has sung: “Somebody Save Me”… then again, don’t save me! KISS FOREVER. Metal be thy name.

PENTAGRAM’s most recent album, Last Rites, was released via Metal Blade Records on April 14, 2011 and their first ever official DVD (also out on Metal Blade), When the Screams Come, on August 30, 2011. Both releases were met by rave reviews from fans and critics alike and saw the band playing sets at infamous SXSW festival in Austin, Texas as well as tours across the US and dates in Europe.

Recently, after months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM announced the addition of their new guitarist Matt Goldborough. His debut with the “Ram Family,” rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. If that gig wasn’t special enough, the band performed songs not heard live in over 40 years! Inspired by a demand from the fans, Liebling and company pulled out rare gems, including Be Forewarned. Featuring the return of FATES WARNING’s original guitarist and founding member Victor Arduini, FREEDOMS REIGN were introduced the world earlier this year when Italian Metal label Cruz Del Sur announced their signing. Since then, the band has been steadily gaining momentum through critical praise of the debut and their energetic live show. The release of Freedoms Reign was timed to coincide with, and celebrate, the 29th anniversary of the release of FATES WARNING’s debut album, Night on Bröcken.

Last month, the band debuted a video for the track Up From Down. Listen to and watch the video below!

_____________________________________

Freedoms Reign is available at: http://www.cruzdelsurmusic.com.

FREEDOM’S REIGN has been active in the Connecticut Metal scene since 2011. The idea behind the band’s formation was to simply make some great music that returned the musicians involved to their roots and could deliver on their commitment to making some Old School Metal that would be relevant in today’s scene. Expect nothing less than a true return to heavy, hard and driving Old School Metal. The band’s self-titled debut was produced by Nick Belmore (Toxic Holocaust/Hatebreed) at Dexters Lab in Milford, CT.

Keeping his original, charismatic and unmistakable guitar-style untouched, FATES WARNING founder Victor Arduini returns to the spotlight with fresh enthusiasm and dedication, producing a notable effort of true American-styled Heavy Metal with a classic Ozzy/Sabbath’s flavor.

FREEDOM’S REIGN is: Victor Arduini (Ex-Fates Warning) on Vocals & Guitar, Tommy Vumback (Guitar), Mike Jones (Bass) and Chris Judge (Drums).

REVOLUTION HARMONY – “We Are” Lyric Video Streaming Now; Single Releases On Mandela Day, July 18th

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock songs, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, rock videos with tags , , , , on July 8, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Revolution Harmony - We Are - promo cover pic - #2

Revolution Harmony, the brainchild of British music lecturer/journalist Ray Holroyd, has announced the July 18th release of its debut All-Star charity single, We Are. The song features vocals from Serj Tankian (System Of A Down) and Ihsahn (Emperor), as well as guitar solos by Devin Townsend.

Composed, arranged, programmed and produced by Ray Holroyd in Vancouver, the complex international studio project was recorded in North America, England, Norway and New Zealand, then mixed by Rohan Onraet (Slipknot, Machine Head) in London, and mastered by Ted Jensen (Green Day, Muse) in New York. The single also features Stefan Loh (We Claimed Sentience Once – signed to Revolution Harmony) on guitars, and additional vocals from the young up-and-coming UK singer Abbie Johnson.

Stone Says: Below, Listen to the song We Are and read it’s inspiring and mystical lyrics. A brilliant song from top to bottom, an epic song that gives me the chills… in a grand way. A powerful song is We Are; thanks to the powerful musicians and vocalists that have made it soar so prolifically. We Are is: ten stars out of ten stars… and 5 Metal fists out of 5 Metal fists! Metal be thy name.

Metal Odyssey is proud to support Ray Holroyd, Revolution Harmony and the charities that benefit from the sale of We Are.

Vancouver-based non-profit record label Revolution Harmony was launched in 2011 by Holroyd. After founding the non-profit Grade 9 Records in 2008 and growing the label over three successful years, Holroyd decided to expand upon what he had originally established as a means for his students to sell their music and donate the profits to charity, and Revolution Harmony was born. Revolution Harmony acts as a two-way channel, providing an outlet for artists to release their music worldwide and earn money from it, and providing an inlet for the label profits from that music to be redirected to charities that restore harmony between all people, animals and the environment.Revolution Harmony - We Are - Charity Single - flyer promo - July 2013

The lyrical theme in ‘We Are’ is based on the concept behind Revolution Harmony, which is essentially the belief that musical harmony has the power to inspire a revolution towards societal harmony. The single is dedicated to Nelson Mandela and the memory of Lucky Dube, regarded as South Africa’s Bob Marley, and will be released worldwide on Mandela Day (18 July), with all proceeds donated to Buskaid, a charity that provides free music lessons and instruments to children in the townships of South Africa.

ARMAROTH “False Vision” EP – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Armaroth - False Vision EP - promo pic

ARMAROTH – From Kranj, Slovenia cometh the Death Metal carnage of ARMAROTH. This is underground Death Metal to savor and enjoy like an ice-cold 6 pack of ale on a hot Summer’s afternoon or a cold day in Winter… take your Metal pick! ARMAROTH plays their Death Metal in the vein of Six Feet Under and Obituary and seemed to have taken their deathly influence quite well from listening to Death and Cannibal Corpse as well.

Putting our Death Metal icons aside, ARMAROTH come across loud and deadly clear that they are original. With impressive melodic guitars and bone tearing riffs featured, the overall depth of sound from this band is one of total F’n destruction upon its surroundings; therefore I cannot pigeonhole ARMAROTH as only a Melodic Death Metal band. In other Metal words, ARMAROTH plays F’n slash-to-the-throat Death Metal. Very bloody nice, indeed.

After the 1:14 seconds of spoken intro, all Death Metal hell breaks loose from ARMAROTH and their debut False Vision EP! False Vision carries through on what I was (hopefully) anticipating: heavy grooves, scathingly heavy drums with pissed-off and death ridden vocals that are all like a death strike, straight from the gates of hell itself! Hail underground Death Metal… and ARMAROTH is another potent reason why! Metal be thy name.

From ARMAROTH:

Armaroth is a brutal music machine that dares to deliver an experience beyond the horizons of comfort. The gears started turning in 2008, launching chaos and destruction of the mind, which were incarnated in 2013 as the False Vision EP. The EP’s first listeners have reported severe damage to their perception of the world and of themselves. The machine is honoured and eager to continue its work. So far it has dominated most of its homeland stages and that is only the beginning. Listen and test your truth. Armaroth will see you soon!

Laid8 – Live At Dublin Castle, London, On July 19th!

Posted in melodic metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 8, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Laid8 - large band logo - B&W

Hailing originally from Israel, Laid8 had struck an emotional nerve in the hearts of Rock and Metal lovers wherever they played. Combing the land to seek out new ears, the band delivers an uncompromising alternative to female-fronted metal, where singing is melodic and dramatic, aggressive and emotional, music is grooving and clever; and when played on-stage it’s just plain awesome!

Following the release of the band’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘These Faded Lines’ the band reached a certain glass ceiling back home. After playing festivals and headlining sell-out shows throughout the country, the band members decided a change of scenery is needed in order to reach bigger audience. Now based in London, UK, Laid8 are playing venues across the country, gathering more listeners and followers to their already extended fan base. They also caught the media’s eye with reviews in Power Play Magazine, Music-news.com and local media. Working hard as always, Laid8 are now looking to expend the reach of their music.

You want hard, pounding, melodic music, filled with emotions and backed with a vibrant and fun show?

Laid8 got it.

Alice Cooper/Lou Reed Guitar Legend Steve Hunter Releases New CD ‘The Manhattan Blues Project’ Featuring All-Star Guest Line-Up

Phoenix, AZ – Guitar legend Steve Hunter, best known for his work with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, David Lee Roth, Jack Bruce and Aerosmith, has a new CD released, ‘The Manhattan Blues Project’, featuring an all-star guest line-up! This is Steve’s fifth solo album and is a culmination of his love of the Blues and New York City mixed with his love of melody and “Tone Poems”.

After recording and touring with Alice Cooper in 2011, he decided to get off the road to write and record. He thought it would be cool to have some guest players join him and was overjoyed and humbled at the willingness of those he asked to contribute to this project. Many of the guests he had not worked with before and most had a very different style of playing to himself. There are two cover tunes but this album is mainly new material written, played and produced by Steve. He was very happy to also include a short composition by his friend Jason Becker, called “Daydream By The Hudson”.

“This album has been inside me trying to get out for a long time, I wanted to show the other side of New York, the soulful side plus it also says a lot of what I have always wanted to say on guitar.” – Steve Hunter

Guest players on The Manhattan Blues Project: Joe Satriani, Tony Levin, Johnny  Depp, Joe Perry, Marty Friedman, Michael Lee Firkins, Phil Aaberg, 2Cellos, Tommy Henriksen

“I am honored to play along side legendary guitarist Steve Hunter on his stunning new album, check it out!” – Joe Satriani

On ‘The Manhattan Blues Project’ Steve goes back to his blues roots in his own unique way. You will hear string arrangements, vocal arrangements, a burst of guitar shredding by the best in the world and echoes of The Beatles. The two cover tunes include Steve’s instrumental version of Peter Gabriel’s “Solsbury Hill”, a song he had played the guitars on for the original album version in 1977. The second cover is from one of his favorite artists Marvin Gaye, “What’s Going On”.

“Steve really knows how to play a guitar. His silky delivery and smooth golden tones make you feel like you’ve just leaned back into your living room sofa after a rocky trip. His notes have a direct connection to your heart. He stirs the feelings that we all long for from a guitar. And like all masters, he makes perfection seem so easy.” – Dennis Dunaway

The Manhattan Blues Project is a rich, uplifting musical experience with lashings of soul, passion and outstanding performances from everybody involved!

OUTRAGE – Austrian Death Metal Warriors Sign With Massacre Records

Outrage - Brutal Human Bastard - promo cover pic

From Massacre Records:

Are you ready for “Austrian Neckbreaking Death Metal”? Good, because we’re welcoming OUTRAGE to the Massacre Records family!

Founded in late 2000, OUTRAGE played Death Metal since their very beginning – influenced by both US Death Metal heroes as well as Classic Metal and Rock legends, like AC/DC or Sepultura.

They released their first demo “and deeper…” in 2002 and the first studio album “Switch Off The Pain” followed in 2006.

OUTRAGE played numerous shows in Europe and supported bands such as their Massacre Records label mates Disbelief, Mastic Scum and Debauchery and went on mini-tour with Lay Down Rotten in G/A/S in 2009.

Some of you have probably seen them live at Austria’s Metalfest (2010) and Extremefest (2012), Slovenia’s Metalcamp (2005/2007/2008/2010) or Germany’s Walpurgis Metal Days (2007/2010), among other festival appearances.

Outrage - band promo pic - 2013 - #1 - massacre records

The band’s second album Contaminated was recorded at the Kohlekeller Studio and was released 2009 via Maintain Records/Twilight-Vertrieb.

OUTRAGE’s typical trademarks are brutal grooves, blistering riffs and aggressive breakdowns paired with lyrics about anger, melancholy, frustration and social criticism.

The guys entered the Kohlekeller Studio again in March 2011 and recorded their upcoming album Brutal Human Bastard, which is going to be released in autumn 2013 via Massacre Records!

OUTRAGE are, among other Massacre Records bands, featured on the “Metal For The Flood Victims Donation Sampler”, which you can download for a minimum donation of 5€ here:https://www.phasetrax.de/artist/radio-diabolus/album/65/metal-for-the-flood-victims-donation-sampler (page available in German only!)

Swedish Melo-Death stalwarts Deals Death have announced a new bassist following departure of Fredrik Ljung earlier this year.

Guitarist Erik Jacobson introduces: “When we decided to go separate ways with Fredrik Ljung some time ago, we immediately set our focus on finding a replacement. And not just a new bass player but a new member who would fit the shoes of representing Deals Death on all levels. Power, strength and skill. Along with a mighty ambition to take it to the next level and a mind-set to fit our own. We could only think of one person.

We give you KAMMO OLAYVAR!

Be prepared to witness some heavy bass lines and a powerful performance from this guy. Born and raised in Sweden and blessed with Hawaiian blood, Kammo takes on the role as Deals Deaths bass player.”

Introducing himself to Deals Death fans Kammo comments: “I’m really excited to take on the role as the bass player of Deals Death. I feel honoured to be playing with such great musicians and can’t wait to deliver some bass tones to these killer riffs. See you all on the road this fall! Kick ass / Kammo.O”

Earlier this year the band confirmed completion of a third album and follow-up to ‘Elite’ which was released last year via Spinefarm/Universal and hinting that “the fall of 2013 will be interesting… very interesting.” Details for the third album other than that it will be released again via Spinefarm/Universal have yet to be revealed.
