Dark Descent Records – Holding Showcase Festival This October!

Dark Descent Records, in association with Parasitic Records and Ash St. PDX, have announced a two-day showcase festival taking place on October 4th and 5th at the Ash St. Saloon in Portland, OR.

The line-up, much like the label’s roster, is comprised of some of the best that today’s underground Death Metal scene has to offer. Tickets for the showcase are $13 for Friday’s show, $15 for Saturday’s show and $26 for both and can be purchased at this location:

Straight from the underground comes the newly launched Unholy Anarchy Records and Distro. Launched in the summer of 2013, Baltimore-based Unholy Anarchy is guided by the philosophy to release quality underground extreme music without boundaries – the only criteria being quality music from great bands.

Run by true Metal fans for true Metal fans, Unholy Anarchy focuses primarily on vinyl releases, but is open to a variety of mediums from acts that share a similar vision. The label’s first release will be a seven-inch split with Belgium’s AGATHOCLES and Pittsburgh, PA’s HOGRA. Due out in early August, the split will be a co-release with Blackseed Records, Jerk Off Records and At War With False Noise.

Wisconsin based Blackened Death metalers EMBLAZONED (featuring ex-Jungle Rot, Micawber, Decrescent and current Decrepit Birth members) have inked a deal with Deepsend Records for the September 3rd release of the band’s debut EP, entitled The Living Magisterium.

The Living Magisterium was produced by Chris Wisco at Belle City Sound in Racine, WI and the cover art was created by renowned artist Raf the Might (Too Many Skulls). Currently the band is booking shows around the mid-west and recently has shared the stage with Vital Remains, Jungle Rot, and Sathanas.

The EP is the first Countess release since 2011’s full-length ‘On Wings Of Defiance’, two tracks of which are featured here in killer new renditions. All songs are exemplary of Countess’ unique blend of first wave Black Metal and traditional Heavy Metal.

Botanist, the unconventional one-man black metal band featuring vocals, drums, and hammered dulcimer instrumentation is gearing up to release a fourth album IV: Mandragora, on February 19th from experimental metal label The Flenser. Combining lyrical creativity and musical ingenuity, IV: Mandragora is a concept record on the alchemical creation of a mandrake and how the Botanist is instructed on raising an army of mandrakes to wipe out humanity.

The songs of Botanist are told from the perspective of the Botanist, a crazed man of science who lives in self-imposed exile, as far away from humanity and it’s crimes against nature. Existing amongst a sanctuary of fantasy and wonder, which he calls the Verdant Realm, he surrounds himself with plants and flowers, finding solace in the company of the natural world while envisioning the destruction of man. Alpine Black/Death occultists VALDUR recently unveiled a teaser track from their upcoming new full-length. Titled Blast Beast, the tune was recorded at the infamous Bloody Mountain Bunker and is currently streaming for all your unholy enjoyment courtesy of Decibel Magazine, who notes: “The guitars swirl like a wicked blizzard at night, the drums blaaast! an unheard of brutality, and the vocals sound like they come from the blackest depths of the Mammoth Mountain. And then there’s that ominous horn-like sound permeating the soundscape. The end of the world or the beginning of an evil era, VALDUR certainly understand Black Metal’s key dynamics without making them sound tired.”

Comments guitarist/vocalist Samuel of the track: “As VALDUR continues to make it a priority to create our music for ourselves first and foremost, we decided this ‘Blast Beast’ should be heard. For us, it is an exciting stepping stone into what will soon unfold into a very aggressive new full length.”

A Rock N’ METAL Thanksgiving – It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. and I’m thankful as always for my family, friends, Metal Buddies, faith, country and the freedom I’ve grown so accustomed to since being alive. I’m thankful for our U.S. troops that protect us here at home and abroad. The Rock N’ Metal that inspires me each and every day, I am absolutely giving thanks for as well. (See below!)

I’m giving thanks for this clear Metal fact: I’ll be catching up with Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale this Thanksgiving weekend… over a couple of cold brews and plates of wings as we discuss… Metal and NFL news.

Now, let’s begin: A Rock N’ METAL Thanksgiving – What I’m Thankful For!

I am thankful for ALL the pioneers of Heavy Metal, aka, Metal. I give Metal thanks to the 1969 debut/ST from Led Zeppelin, with the 1970 debut/ST album from Black Sabbath to follow. I am also thankful for 1974’s KISS debut/ST (see at top of post). Moving forward to 1979’s No Mean City from Nazareth and every other seminal and not so famous Heavy Rock album from those building block years of Metal – I declare my Metal thanks!

AC/DC… WHOA!

From Saxon to Iron Maiden and from Motörhead to Diamond Head, I give Metal thanks. Believe me, if I could list every single band and musician that has psyched-me-out throughout my Metal lovin’ life, I would!

I am thankful for ALL the pre-Heavy Metal history; a Rock and Roll and Classic Rock History that includes all the pioneering bands and musicians that paved the path for Hard Rock and Metal.

Brutally honest, creative and constantly evolving, Croatian based INFERNAL TENEBRA withstood the test of time in the metal underground.

Originating with pure black metal in 1999, adding a death metal foundation in the following years.

INFERNAL TENEBRA shared the stage with a vast number of metal icons including Kreator, Vader, Symphony X, Exodus, Blind Guardian, Agathodaimon, Pro-Pain and Grave Digger and played festivals like Bloodstock Open Air, Metalcamp and Metalfest.

With two self-released albums Beneath The Twilight and The Essence Of Chaos, the band is heading to a new chapter with the upcoming album, which is going to be released on December 7th via Massacre Records!

ADORNED BROOD – Reveal “Kuningaz” Track List; Album Releases November 23rd via Massacre Records

“Kuningaz” was recorded at the Kohlekeller Studio in Seeheim-Jugenheim, Germany, with producer Kai Stahlenberg and will also be available as limited digipak. It will include a new recording of ADORNED BROOD’s old song “Totenmarsch” as bonus track.

THE WRETCHED END “INROADS” – This Dark & Extreme Metal Album Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

THE WRETCHED END – The second studio album, Inroads, from Norway’s The Wretched End was released this past Summer, via Candlelight Records. The Metal muscular supergroup of Samoth (lead/rhythm guitars), Cosmo (lead/rhythm guitars, bass & vocals) and Nils Fjellström are so incredible together that it’s scary. These three musicians are at the very top of their Metal tier once again with Inroads.

Dark lyrically, Extreme with a blackened atmosphere and mood; I cannot get enough of this sophomore release from The Wretched End. The combination of Cosmo’s vocals and the Metal music are for all intents and purposes… Extreme perfection. If our Metal community needs an ambassador band to stand up to all the societal bullshit we must (all) endure, then I’m electing The Wretched End.

Samoth is a Metal legend. Period. His presence is heard and remarkably felt all over these songs on Inroads and it’s a grand experience to take in. Nils Fjellström on drums is so damn great to listen to. Honestly, this band was meant-to-be and they play like they’ve been together forever. This entire album is a favorite for me, with each song blazing into the next in all of its Extreme and Blackened Metal glory.

Inroads is easily one of the very best among Metal albums of 2012, in my personal Metal opinion. This is an album you must hear and spread the Metal word about. Fans of Emperor, Dark Funeral, Scum and Zyklon know these guys are unreal at mastering their Metal craft. What’s important to know is – The Wretched End bestows Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal and all grand attributes of Extreme Metal, all wrapped into one.

The Wretched End blew my Metal mind with their 2010 debut Ominous; this follow-up titled Inroads has had the same, if not more of an effect on me; in turn, solidifying my highest level of recommendation of their Metal to all my fellow Metal brethren. The Wretched End is what Metal is all about. Metal be thy name.
