WILT – Canadian Black Metal Duo To Release Debut EP

Wilt is gearing up to release their debut EP. Based out of Central Canada, this 2 piece Black Metal project is comprised of Jordan Dorge [Laika] and Brett Goochild. Black metal has never sounded so dark and deprived. This self-titled EP will take you on a visceral journey into your mind and into the crevices of the earth.

With influences rooting from Winterfylleth, Woods Of Ypres, Altar Of Plagues, Nachmystium and many more, they hinder their own true and unique sound to Canadian black metal. This four track EP runs just shy of 30 minutes. Artwork comes courtesy of Sam Nelson and the logo was done by The Lord of Logos, Christophe Szpajdel. Dan Lowndes will handle mastering duties. Expect a late October/early November release date.

LUNA AD NOCTUM – Sign With Massacre Records; “Hypnotic Inferno” Releases In February 2013

The band was founded in 1998. “Lunar Endless Temptation”, the band’s first demo, was released 3 years later, which was followed by the debut album “Dimness’ Profound” in 2002.

The second album “Sempiternal Consecration”, released in 2004, features a cover version of Samael’s song “Into The Pentagram”. After the release, LUNA AD NOCTUM played several shows supporting Cannibal Corpse and played at the Metalmania Festival in Poland. The band’s third album “The Perfect Evil In Mortal” was released in 2006.

LUNA AD NOCTUM are now ready to deliver their fourth studio album “Hypnotic Inferno” in February 2013 via Massacre Records!

VENOM – To Headline Maryland Deathfest 2013

Yes it’s official…. Venom have confirmed they will be headlining the Maryland Death Fest which takes place during the last weekend of May 2013.

The Black Metal Godz last played Live in America in 2006 on their ’10 Commandments Tour’, although other show commitments have prevented them from returning sooner. As yet no other US dates are being planned during this period, so this show at MDF XI could be a one-off spectacular.

LAGRIMA ‘Hannibal AD Portas’ – Lebanese Metal Band Self-Releases Their Debut Album And It’s: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

LAGRIMA – Beirut Lebanon is home to a Metal band that I want my fellow Metal brethren to know about. This Metal band is called LAGRIMA and they blend everything from classic guitar to (melodic) Black and Death Metal;  with Heavy Metal and Power Metal influences in-between. Overall, I would classify LAGRIMA as an Extreme Metal band that also respects the art of capturing melody, while they are very astute at conveying their Metal craft effectively. The mood and atmosphere of this album projects an open-mindedness to music that LAGRIMA saturates with their Metal.

Their debut studio album, Hannibal AD Portas has just been self released and it’s free! (See their Reverbnation link below). LAGRIMA is: Tarek Yazbek (Guitars, Bass, Drum Machines, Synth) and Bilal Alaghar on vocals. Originally formed back in 2003 with a different lineup, Tarek Yazbek is now the lone founding member.

The album opener, Prelude (… To the Gods of War), is an intro of orchestration; an intro that gave me every indication that LAGRIMA has set no boundaries to their interpretation of a Metal album and I applaud them for that. There are many moments where LAGRIMA will shift gears and subdue their Metal extremity, with melodic guitar passages and intros that musically illuminate their Middle East roots (Death of the Father… Saguntum and Trepia Trazimian Cannie are fine examples of this).

Tarek Yazbek is quite the talented multi-instrumentalist! His guitar skills cover an extensive range, from acoustical and melodically mellow to all-out blazing fret work and riffs that should make every Metal maniac out there raise the horns to the sky. Bilal Alaghar has Black Metal written all over his vocals and he has more than impressed my eardrums and Extreme Metal saturated brain! This Metal duo from Lebanon have downright succeeded at recording their debut album and they both should be Metal proud.

In the event LAGRIMA were to be discovered and signed by a Metal record label tomorrow, it would not surprise me at all; of course the Metal door should be open for some production tweaking. LAGRIMA has recorded a product of Metal that stands on its own merit of being very memorable to me. This band is not just another carbon-copied multi-Metal genre act that wants to play extreme. There’s some diversity in LAGRIMA’s Metal that needs to be heard.

ADORNED BROOD – Finish Recordings, Reveal Album Details For ‘Kuningaz’

ADORNED BROOD have finished the recordings of their upcoming album!

“Kuningaz”, which is the Germanic term for king, is going to be available in late November and will also be available as limited digipak with an exclusive bonus track.

The album was recorded at the Kohlekeller Studio in Seeheim-Jugenheim, Germany, with producer Kai Stahlenberg.

Mario Pontigo, Moritz “Mo” Stübing (All Will Know) and Florian “Blutaxt” Tamm (Black Unicorn) are featured as guest musicians on “Kuningaz”.

Rumor has it, that fans will hear more acoustic instruments, more blast beats, complex riffing and various sound effects on the album.

NIDINGR – ‘Greatest Of Deceivers’ Details Revealed; Releasing In North America On November 20th

Recent Indie Recordings signees, NIDINGR, will unleash their new full-length, Greatest Of Deceivers, in North America on November 20th. Starring present and past members of bands such as Mayhem, Gorgoroth, DHG (Dødheimsgard), 1349 and God Seed, among others, the Norwegian Black Metal magicians are known for their efficiently complex songwriting, ravagingly dissonant, yet infinitely catchy riffs and breakneck tempos. Their two previous offerings — 2005’s Sorrow Infinite And Darkness and 2010’sWolf Father — prove what this maniacal assault is capable of. 

NIDINGR recorded G.O.D. in Crystal Canyon Studios in Oslo, home to a host of prominent Norwegian acts including cult experimentalists Ulver, to accomplish a unique ‘70s, vintage style production. The sound they’ve created is a wholly organic, warm, unedited and un-triggered production that further emphasizes the great musicianship caught on tape. Greatest Of Deceivers was produced by guitarist Teloch, mixed by Anders Møller (Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O, Euroboys, 120 Days, Turbonegro, etc.) and  mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. The cover was crafted by the renowned Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Nachtmystium, Paradise Lost, Watain, Blut Aus Nord, etc.).

Greatest Of Deceivers continues the theme from Sorrow Infinite And Darkness, based on Enochian texts. As on the previous album, ten Enochian Æthyrs are evoked through the course of the album.

VALDUR – Alpine Black/Death Occultists Issue Recording Update; New Song Posted

Alpine Black/Death occultists VALDUR recently completed composing their upcoming, as-yet, untitled new full-length. Official recording sessions will commence on November 12th at Earhammer Studios. Additionally, VALDUR recently unleashed an ultra limited two-song EP entitled The Hammer Pit containing a rough version of two new songs. Taste the blood of track one, “Conjuring The Fire Plagues,” at the band’s Official BandCamp Page. When asked to talk about the upcoming new material, the band said in a collective statement: “We wish not to elaborate too much and allow the music that we will be putting out in the near future to do the talking.”

Hailing from Mammoth Lakes, California, VALDUR released Raven God Amongst Us in 2010 via Blood Mountain Records. The record proved to be an infernal masterpiece among the underground masses. Noted The Metal Crypt in a review of the record: “USBM is so often by the numbers that I am wary of it right out of the gate, but this is a band that remembers what is good about black metal, and does it very well indeed. Not an album to overlook,”About.com called the band, “the best black metal band in the United States that you’ve probably never heard of,” while Thrash Pit opined, “…a shimmering brand of black metal which pierces hearts rather than suffocates lungs.”

RETALIATORY MEASURES – Sign With Massacre Records; New Song ‘Pharynx’ Streaming Online!

RETALIATORY MEASURES from Finland was founded in early 2009 by Kalle Hahtamo (Guitar), Pessi Haltsonen (Vocals) and Janne Halima (Guitar). Soon Iiro Aittokoski (Drums) and Teemu Heurlin (Bass) joined the band. Teemu left the band about a year later and was repleaced by Marko Mäkipanula.

They released their first demo in late 2009, which gained good feedback from the music media in Finland. A second promo CD entitled “MMX” followed a year later.

RETALIATORY MEASURES have been hitting the stages since the beginning of the band and played with bands such as Omnium Gatherum, Insomniumm, Rotten Sound or Napoleon Skullfukk.

Being asked about the lyrical themes of their songs, Iiro said in an interview with The Core Of Brutality: “(Our songs deal with) death, accepting death, tattoo artists and Mel Gibson.”

INFERION – Opens The Vault and Unleashes “Aborted By The Sun”

You may already know of INFERION’s The Desolate, the Black Metal whirlwind from Mr. Everything Nick Reyes. But in 2003 Reyes’ recorded an EP of blast-beaten, aggressive Melodic Death Metal called Aborted by the Sun that was recorded under the name Farewell My Angel. The original plan to release the EP was halted after the hard drive with the original mixes/master was damaged in a fire. A recent discovery of those original files led Iraq War veteran Reyes to re-record much of the EP when time permitted during Army Special Forces and Selection Training at Fort Bragg, GA. The EP has now been released under the INFERION banner.

The Story Of “Aborted By The Sun” As Told By Nick Reyes:

Aborted by the Sun was originally recorded in 2003 under the band name Farewell my Angel. At the time INFERION had put out the album Firewar that was getting some attention, and since this release was more Death Metal, I was going to release it next, but I was never able to do so because the original mixes and masters were damaged on a hard drive that caught fire. Last year, I was going through my storage unit looking for Army gear to pack for SFAS and I came upon some old CDs and DVDs in the same tough box and among them was a DVD simply titled “ABTSMBU.” I put it in the computer and found all the original mixes and masters for the album.

I re-recorded the bass, drums, and some vocals while I was trying out for the Special Forces, so this album is about determination, and the aggressive pursuit of goals. Since this album was semi structured, I just had to redo it in the way that I had envisioned it in my head during the selection course. So I based it around the guitars that were already there and tracked everything as soon as I got home a month later.

THE FORSAKEN – Swedish Death Unit’s Fourth Album Nears North American Release

Landskrona, Sweden-based THE FORSAKEN are preparing to drop their fourth full-length assault Beyond Redemption in North America.

Beyond Redemption surges with forty minutes of the band’s modern black/thrash-infused death metal culminating here into some of the most devastating sequences from THE FORSAKEN to date. The album was recorded by the band themselves, and the final product mixed and mastered at the renowned Fascination Street Studios (Bloodbath, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Soilwork).

THE FORSAKEN formed in 1997, initially under the moniker of Septic Breed. Following several demos, lineup changes and the name change, the band signed with Century Media for the release of their 2001 debut album Manifest Of Hate, their 2002 follow-up Arts Of Desolation and 2003’s Traces Of The Past. The band parted ways with the label in 2009, and following another personnel shift, began the construction of their now pending fourth album Beyond Redemption, through new label home Masssacre Records.

Following its successful release in Europe in recent weeks, Beyond Redemption will be available to North American metallers on August 14th. View the audio teaser and more AT THIS LOCATION.

Wanna See Some Of My VENOM Stuff? It’s All Really Cool…

VENOM – Whoa. Check out (above) that cool front cover for my issue of Zero Tolerance. This is the December 2011/January 2012 issue – #44. Cronos, the legendary classic member, bassist and vocalist of Venom gives one hell of an interview in this issue. After reading this interview, I really admire the up-front nature of Cronos. He tells it like it is. Old school is Cronos and his band Venom is back like a pit viper!

This leads me to the most recent Venom release…

Fallen Angels. The 13th album overall from Venom, Fallen Angels was released back on November 28th, 2011, via Spinefarm Records / Universal. I actually won this CD you see above from a bet I made with Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale. What was the bet? It was a “straight-up” bet that my beloved New York Giants would defeat the hapless New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. My NY Giants won, 21 to 17. Thank you, Coverdale!

What an album Fallen Angels is. This is as rabidly potent a Venom lineup as there has ever been, (with no insult to the classic Venom lineup of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon). No studio trickery. No bullshit. Just F’n old school Metal, the way it was meant to be played and heard… courtesy of Venom.

And now, I’ve saved the best for last…

How influential and pioneering is this Venom debut! Welcome To Hell was released back in 1981, via Neat. I’ve had this cassette version of Welcome To Hell for a very, very long time. This debut from Venom is 100% Metal history 101, my Metal brethren!

So many genres of Metal can thank Venom for their establishing such a raw & speed driven sound; establishing this sound so early on during the NWOBHM movement. Venom paved a Metal path for countless Thrash and Black Metal bands; it’s nearly mind-boggling to grasp.

See for yourself, how Venom is misspelled on this cassette’s spine. It reads: Venon. Who the hell was dumb enough to misspell Venom this way? Whoever was responsible for this printing error was obviously a constipated poser and a turd. Blasphemy!!

Maybe this “Venon version” of Welcome To Hell is worth a blackened fortune? I just don’t know. I’ll never part with this cassette anyways, unless someone offers me six figures for it.

AUTOLATRY – Announce U.S. Tour

New England Black Metal quintet AUTOLATRY are set to embark upon a massive U.S. tour in support of their self-released EP entitled Of The Land. Blending razor-edged Progressive and Melodic Black Metal with primal intensity and Folk sensibilities, AUTOLATRY promises to leave audiences standing in awe as they blaze a trail across the United States. The tour is set to kick off on July 12th in Worcester, MA with cities and venues confirmed through August 2nd. The band will remain on the road for another three weeks before wrapping things up with a homecoming show on August 24th in New Haven, CT. Confirmed dates and venues are listed below.

Steeped in their home region New England’s rich heritage, Autolatry meld progressive and melodic elements into a whirlwind of sonic character that can only be described as “New England Black Metal”.  Formed in 2010 as a 3-piece band by brothers Dave and Matt Kaminsky and Karl Chamberlain, Autolatry has since matured into a well-rounded quintet.

The band self-released their 2012 EP Of The Land to rave reviews, drawing diverse comparisons to the likes of Krallice, Woods of Ypres, and Absu. In addition to recording the follow-up to Of The Land, Autolatry embarks on a 40+ date US tour between July and August 2012. WINDFAERER – New Track Stream Posted

Garden State Blackened Metal troupe WINDFAERER are currently streaming “A Glimpse of Light,” the second track off their new EP, Solar. The self-released follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed Tribus debut was recorded with Bobby Torres at Frightbox Recording in Clifton, New Jersey and offers up seven tracks of sadistic beauty laden with elements of Black and Melodic Death Metal while exuding a folkloric edge.

Literally meaning “one who travels with the wind,” as in a vessel at sea, WINDFAERER began as a means of self-expression for guitarist/bassist/vocalist Michael Gonçalves, inspired by his Hispanic/Iberian heritage and fueled by his passion for Extreme Music. With WINDFAERER, he focused his energies on creating a melodic, blasting and emotional entity and eventually recruited like-minded musicians in violinist Benjamin Karas and drummer JP Andrade.

Gonçalves notes: “This music is a vessel for my expression. WINFAERER is not to follow trends or be part of a scene of some sort; it is about independence and being true. Solar feels like a healthy progression for WINDFAERER‘s music,” he continues. “I’ve included more input from my bandmates in the writing process and we’re excited to show the world our brand of Metal with this EP. We are more energized than ever to keep creating.”

PTAHIL – Fan Bites Head Off Decomposed Rodent; Live Video Footage Posted

Regularly adorning the stage with lamb bones and decaying rats, Indiana Black Metal miscreants PTAHIL are known for their moody, violent and lawless exercises in live musical mayhem. At a recent ceremony at The Brass Rail in Fort Wayne, their onstage chaos led one fan to bite the head of a decomposed rodent.

Comments PTAHIL drummer, Mhaghnuis: “It is good to see that when a human being is bombarded with specific emotions, smells and sounds that they can commit actions that are normally unthinkable to them. We are proud that our music and presence helped this person do something unthinkable to any current standard of social behavior.”

Added concert attendee/rat nibbler Zac Bau: “I felt it necessary to step outside the rest of the fans behavior and show that it only takes one person to break the monotony of fist-pumping metal fans. Everybody can mosh; everybody can throw the horns but the true metal fan will eat things that the spirit of the moment moves them to no matter the rest of the world’s thoughts on it.”

PTAHIL recently completed the follow-up to For His Satanic Majesty’s Glory. Titled The Almighty Propagator Of Doom And Despair, their newest assault Satanic Doom/Punk/Black Metal is slated for release on December 21, 2012 through Wraith Productions and was written and recorded in acknowledgement to the prison of life and the pursuit of true freedom. XANTHOCHROID – Releases Two Teaser Videos From Forthcoming Debut Full Length Album!

Lake Forest, California-based Epic Legendary Black Metal outfit Xanthochroid have released two teaser videos, allowing fans a glimpse inside the creation and sound of their forthcoming debut full-length album titled “Blessed He With Boils.”

Said Xanthochroid frontman Sam Meador, “Xanthochroid is an Epic Black Metal band that strives to produce the most sophisticated and enthralling compositions in the metal scene today.
