ZUD “The Good, The Bad And The Damned” – Maine Metal Has Invaded!

4 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

ZUD – When I think of Thompson’s Point, Maine, the last thing I would think of is Black Metal or any Metal at all. I dunno, it’s Maine for crap sakes. I think of those moose crossing/warning signs I used to see when I did venture into that state as a printing salesman. Hey. That was a long time ago. I wore an embarrassing tie for that shit job. Alright, enough of my bullshit and onto ZUD; and this Black Metal meets 70’s Classic Rock band is from Thompson’s Point, Maine. Metal be thy name.

This Debut Album From ZUD Is Titled: The Good, The Bad And The Damned.

ZUD knows how to jam. ZUD can shred. ZUD can probably do any damn thing they want to do, way, way up there in Thompson’s Point, Maine. Portal To Infinity is a rather quick intro. It’s not that spooky to me. Then again, I’m the dude that brags about really seeing a spectre back in the late 80’s. No, I wasn’t drunk or high at that particular time. At 12:47, Skull Shaped Hell is one hell of a blackened jam! This song is so damn good that it seems like it’s only 4 minutes long to me.

Blood And Twilight at 8:23 long, continues the guitar driven and darkened good-times. Is it proper to use “good-times” within an album review that is Black Metal themed? Hey. At my age it’s good-times just going to buy a 6-pack of Yuengling. The Junction clocks in at 9:40. As you can see, these songs are long. However, these songs kick some blackened backwoods ass. Dendrite Fumes entertains at 9:15 long. There’s a ton of bang for your Metal buck with this ZUD album; and it’s underground Metal that’s saturated with quality song writing, musicianship and vocals.

With Black Metal vocals, Classic Rock intervals of guitar jamming, intense drumming and moments of Metal extremity with evil lyrics, ZUD is a band that I’m more than happy to embrace and welcome into my Metal world of loyalty. Shit. I used the word “happy” in this album review. Whatever. Y’all get my Metal point. ZUD is the real Metal deal and if you think that sounds cliché then go read some old copies of Reader’s Digest. Metal be thy Maine. Oops. I meant name.

The Good, The Bad And The Damned – Track Listing:

1. Portal To Infinity

2. Skull Shaped Hell

3. Blood And Twilight

4. The Junction

5. Dendrite Fumes

WILT – Canadian Black Metal Outfit Announces 2013 Noctis Metalfest Appearance

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Black Metal, Metal, Metal News, noctis metalfest 2013, wilt, wilt moving monoliths, wilt noctis metalfest on July 30, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Central Canadian Black Metal duo, WILT, will be taking part in this year’s Noctis Metalfest in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on September 19th – 21st.

WILT finds themselves amongst legendary company at Noctis, as performances by CARCASS, EXITER, POSSESSED, SACRIFICE, CANDLEMASS and many more have already been announced. WILT is scheduled to play on Thursday, September 19th. For more information, visit:

http://www.noctisvalkyries.com

In other news, WILT has enlisted Nick Keller (Black Dahlia Murder, Beast Wars and Heresiarch) to design the cover art for their forthcoming new release, Moving Monoliths.

Moving Monoliths is the follow-up to the band’s self-titled debut, which was released in October of last year as a digital download, and is now being offered as a limited editions (300 copies only), 180-gram white vinyl 12-inch. WILT is available on vinyl and digital formats at:

http://wiltmanitoba.bandcamp.com

As if the oldest tree in the forest pulled up its roots and migrated to its afterlife, a ghostly procession of bark and withered leaves. Death and decay are legion, but there’s a real sense of grace to the airy melodies they embed deep into the compositions, while never being as frivolous or cheap sounding as some of the tunes I’ve heard by Agalloch or Woods of Ypres (bands who possess a similar thematic approach to expression). – From the Dust Returned

WILT was unearthed in the winters of 2010. Founded by Jordan Dorge, later recruited Brett Goodchild to capture Jordan’s vision. Experience WILT, dark deprived Black Metal in its truest form hailing from the frozen prairies of Central Canada, WILT intends to take you on a journey into the depths of your soul and every crevice of the earth.

ZUD – Portland, Maine’s Obscure Blackened Jam Horde Drops Debut Album

Posted in Black Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Black Metal, metal albums 2013, Metal News, zud, zud the good the bad and the damned on July 29, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

ZUD – There are a few of them left out there. None are nearby and most are dead anyway. The castle has been under a long siege and strange things go on behind walls when death is such a good old pal… In one sense four years in the making, yet in another thrown together in six months. And so, out of the dead-end peninsula of Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine, ZUD presents their debut full-length, The Good, The Bad And The Damned.

Infectiously and seamlessly merging the aesthetics of Black Metal and Classic Rock, delivering tunes with an exceedingly organic delivery and live-for-now outlook, ZUDsomehow does something vibrant and fresh while simultaneously paying homage to those who forged the paths the four members have traveled thus far in life.

Recorded and mixed by Todd Hutchinson (Falls of Rauros, AOK Suicide Forest) at Acadia Recording Company in Portland, Maine and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Repugnant) at Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, The Good, The Bad And The Damned hits fucking hard with more than forty minutes of killer, free-form, high-octane Metal, perfect for those late Summer night parties full of suds and bud, while keeping you aware of the fact that no matter how good or bad life may be, death is always within spitting distance.

Check out “Blood And Twilight” RIGHT HERE.

ZUD self-released The Good, The Bad And The Damned on the Summer Solstice in a limited run of 333 hand-numbered gatefold digipak CDs, available for order direct from the band HERE.

For those who lack imagination, ZUD plays old-school sleazy n’ cheesy blues-rockin’ black metal, like old Mayhem and older Bathory mixed with Roky Erickson, early Van Halen, Ash Ra Temple and a slew of other classic rock, psyche and various NWOBHM influences. It is harsh, it shreds, it kills and crushes, but it is also hypnotizing, trance-inducing and still catchy and fun as all fucking hell. This is music to die to, to cry to, to get high to, to bang your fucking head to. But most of all it is fuel for the souls of those true rock n’ roll outlaws who still wander around on their infinite journeys; be it on the iron dragons, an iron horse or on foot. Those who know that no friends or glory await at the end of the line, only death… and that there is nothing to do about it but to learn to enjoy the torture that is life in the bizarre but unique opportunities which it can present. To embrace the wastelands in the pouring rain. To smile at death. To wink back at the world when the time comes, knowing that the only thing left to say is “later twerps…”

Stay tuned for infiltrations of sheds and recluse vicinities with ZUD and their vicious live assault and be ready for plenty of surprises…

The Good, The Bad And The Damned Track Listing:

1. Portal To Infinity

2. Skull Shaped Hell

3. Blood And Twilight

4. The Junction

5. Dendrite Fumes

DHG / Dødheimsgard – Norway’s Black Metal Legends Sign To Peaceville Records

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags Black Metal, black metal bands, dødheimsgard (dhg), Metal News, peaceville records on July 3, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Peaceville Records are proud to announce the signing of Norway’s finest bunch of demonic delinquents, Dødheimsgard (DHG). One of the truly great boundary-pushers & visionaries of the mid-90’s Norwegian Black Metal evolution, & having released 4 full-length albums to date since their inception, DHG are widely hailed as masters of dark & psychotic psychedelia-tinged extremity.

“Now, here we are, a new band with brand new songs, letting something unconscious and dormant become the conscious and the awake.

In addition, we will also finish the re-reissuing of our past titles on Peaceville Records, since they’ve done such a good job taking care of the other material. This means that “Satanic Art”, “Monumental Possession” and “Kronet til Konge” will again be available to the masses at some point in the near future. I also plan to release a lot of additional psychopharma in relation to the next couple of releases, as treatment for the over-average crazy patient at the worldwide DHG asylum. Stay tuned for more news from the devil’s favourite band”.

HAMMERDRONE “A Demon Rising” – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Posted in Black Metal, Death Metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags blackened death metal, hammerdrone, hammerdrone a demon rising, metal albums 2012, Metal News on June 30, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Album Artwork By Graham Harris. Layout And Design By Megan Clavelle.

Hammerdrone is a Melodic, Blackened Death Metal band from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Formed in October 2010, Hammerdrone features Graham Harris, ex-Reverend Kill (Apollon Records), ex-Genepool, ex-Rötschreck (Tenderloin Records) on vocals; Vinnie Cardellini, ex-Reverend Kill, on drums; Rick Cardellini on lead guitar; Curtis Beardy on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, and Steve Greenough, ex-Terra Cotta, on bass.

Canadian Metal is represented with potent muscle from HAMMERDRONE and their Blackened EP: Demon Rising. Crunchy, melodic and searing guitars (Rick Cardellini, Curtis Beardy) to melt your eardrums into Metal ecstasy; all the while the vocals of Graham Harris will blanket your surroundings into a melancholy zone of Blackened welcoming acceptance.

Powerful drumming from Vinnie Cardellini provides the quaking and skull splitting ambience, with Steve Greenough administering hellish beats that shall kick the living shit out of your senses. Fabulous songs are all four; with a perfect combination of melodic and extreme to satiate a wide audience of Metal fans.

HAMMERDRONE are as legit as your favorite ale at your favorite watering hole; and this Metal band helps give the underground of Metal its grand reputation it so deserves. Get your Metal senses scalded by HAMMERDRONE and remember the day I told you to do so. HAMMERDRONE deserves a record deal, from a Metal label we all know and respect. I absolutely cannot wait for HAMMERDRONE’s debut album! Metal be thy name.

Stream/Download

Botanist, the unconventional one-man black metal band featuring vocals, drums, and hammered dulcimer instrumentation is gearing up to release a fourth album IV: Mandragora, on February 19th from experimental metal label The Flenser. Combining lyrical creativity and musical ingenuity, IV: Mandragora is a concept record on the alchemical creation of a mandrake and how the Botanist is instructed on raising an army of mandrakes to wipe out humanity.

The songs of Botanist are told from the perspective of the Botanist, a crazed man of science who lives in self-imposed exile, as far away from humanity and it’s crimes against nature. Existing amongst a sanctuary of fantasy and wonder, which he calls the Verdant Realm, he surrounds himself with plants and flowers, finding solace in the company of the natural world while envisioning the destruction of man. There, seated upon his throne of Veltheimia, the Botanist awaits the day when humans will either die or kill each other off, thus allowing plants to reclaim Earth in a green glory once more.

VALDUR – New Track From Black/Death Occultists Streaming Courtesy Of Decibel Magazine

Valdur - promo group pic - 2012 - #1!

Alpine Black/Death occultists VALDUR recently unveiled a teaser track from their upcoming new full-length. Titled Blast Beast, the tune was recorded at the infamous Bloody Mountain Bunker and is currently streaming for all your unholy enjoyment courtesy of Decibel Magazine, who notes: “The guitars swirl like a wicked blizzard at night, the drums blaaast! an unheard of brutality, and the vocals sound like they come from the blackest depths of the Mammoth Mountain. And then there’s that ominous horn-like sound permeating the soundscape. The end of the world or the beginning of an evil era, VALDUR certainly understand Black Metal’s key dynamics without making them sound tired.”

Comments guitarist/vocalist Samuel of the track: “As VALDUR continues to make it a priority to create our music for ourselves first and foremost, we decided this ‘Blast Beast’ should be heard. For us, it is an exciting stepping stone into what will soon unfold into a very aggressive new full length.”

Witness “Blast Beast” at THIS LOCATION.

The recording of their as-yet, untitled long player will be completed later this month Earhammer Studio in Oakland. The offering will feature nine tracks in total. Further details to be announced in the coming weeks.

In related news, the band will be performing a rare live ritual alongside Genocide Coven, Ritual Combat and more at the Nihilistic Death Fest V in Salt Lake City, Utah January 19. The gathering is being held at The Shred Shed. Tickets are $10 advance/$12 day of show. For more info, point your browser HERE.

If you missed it, VALDUR recently unleashed an ultra limited two-song EP entitled The Hammer Pit containing a rough version of two new songs. Taste the blood of track one, Conjuring The Fire Plagues, at the band’s Official BandCamp Page.

A Rock N’ METAL Thanksgiving – What I’m Thankful For! WHOA!

Posted in Black Metal, classic rock, Death Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock and roll, rock music, rock music news with tags classic rock, hard rock news, heavy metal news, holidays, Metal News, rock music news, thanksgiving on November 22, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

KISS – debut/ST (1974 – Casablanca Records)

A Rock N’ METAL Thanksgiving – It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. and I’m thankful as always for my family, friends, Metal Buddies, faith, country and the freedom I’ve grown so accustomed to since being alive. I’m thankful for our U.S. troops that protect us here at home and abroad. The Rock N’ Metal that inspires me each and every day, I am absolutely giving thanks for as well. (See below!)

I’m giving thanks for this clear Metal fact: I’ll be catching up with Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale this Thanksgiving weekend… over a couple of cold brews and plates of wings as we discuss… Metal and NFL news.

Now, let’s begin: A Rock N’ METAL Thanksgiving – What I’m Thankful For!

I am thankful for ALL the pioneers of Heavy Metal, aka, Metal. I give Metal thanks to the 1969 debut/ST from Led Zeppelin, with the 1970 debut/ST album from Black Sabbath to follow. I am also thankful for 1974’s KISS debut/ST (see at top of post). Moving forward to 1979’s No Mean City from Nazareth and every other seminal and not so famous Heavy Rock album from those building block years of Metal – I declare my Metal thanks!

AC/DC… WHOA!

From Saxon to Iron Maiden and from Motörhead to Diamond Head, I give Metal thanks. Believe me, if I could list every single band and musician that has psyched-me-out throughout my Metal lovin’ life, I would!

I am thankful for ALL the pre-Heavy Metal history; a Rock and Roll and Classic Rock History that includes all the pioneering bands and musicians that paved the path for Hard Rock and Metal.

I am very, very, thankful for these albums & bands: (A very short list, of course!)

LIZZY BORDEN – Best Of (1994 – Metal Blade Records)

SATYRICON – The Age Of Nero (Koch Records)

DIO – Holy Diver (1983 – Warner Bros.)

SOUNDGARDEN – Down On The Upside (1996 – A&M Records)

SOULFLY – Enslaved (2012 – Roadrunner Records)

SCORPIONS… WHOA!

WITCH CROSS IS BACK! WITH KEV MOORE! WHOA!

STRYPER… WHOA!

MASS… WHOA!

DORO… WHOA! WHOA AGAIN!

CHRIS BARNES and SIX FEET UNDER… WHOA!

SKELETONWITCH… WHOA!

VENOM… WHOA!

HATEBREED… WHOA!

ORANGE GOBLIN… WHOA!

THE BIG FOUR… WHOA!

OVERKILL… WHOA!

TESTAMENT… WHOA!

EXODUS… WHOA!

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION – Afterglow

(2012 – J&R Adventures)

3 INCHES OF BLOOD – Long Live Heavy Metal

(2012 – Century Media)

BLACK SABBATH – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

(1973 – Warner Bros.)

QUEENSRYCHE – Operation Mindcrime (1988 – EMI)

What and/or who are you thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day? If you’re thankful for a favorite band and/or musician… let it be known by commenting! Whoa!
