The band commented:

“‘Born Again’ explores the experience of existential stagnation, a loss of strength and emotion but ultimately urges a reaction, a personal awakening in the face of despair. The lyrics capture a moment of profound inner struggle and emotional paralysis, where hope seems to vanish. Yet, they deliver a powerful message of perseverance, framing every obstacle as an opportunity for renewal. The song underscores the importance of taking action and refusing to let life slip away, reminding us that every hardship holds the potential for a comeback. At its heart, ‘Born Again’ is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of starting anew”.

2. Mirrors
3. Sagnol

RESPECT FOR ZERO is a hardcore band from Sant’Elpidio a Mare, on Italy’s east coast, active since 2013. Their name doesn’t stand for “respect for nothing” but rather for respect for those who are treated like zero compared to corrupt politicians and the authorities who exploit us.

The band channels the rage of a generation raised in the suburbs, without comfort, and under the repression of the global underground culture, constantly stifled by the church and a bigoted mindset. The band stands firmly against fascism.

RESPECT FOR ZERO has shared the stage with bands such as Terror, Ratos de Porão, Expire, No Turning Back, WarCry, Bent Life, Trash Talk, Comeback Kid, H2O, Impact, Bull Brigade, Meet the Storm, Strength Approach, Slander, Straight Opposition, Face Your Enemy, Mud, Chains, and many more!

FREYA’s Intoxicating Blend Of Hardcore And Thrash Bubbles Over In “Blood Thirst”

Posted in hardcore, hardcore metal, hardcore music, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , on October 10, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Freya, the veteran hardcore/metal band hailing from Syracuse, USA, is set to drop their newest single “Blood Thirst”. This powerful track showcases the band’s unique blend of hardcore intensity and thrash metal fury that they have been perfecting for over two decades. The single is a straightforward banger, drummer Ethan D. Henry comments on the track:

“I’m not vegan or anything but I was just thinking of this concept of some trophy hunters entering the forest killing and taking what they wanted and leaving the corpses of their victims to rot. I imagined a grizzly bear being fed up finding rotten deer, turkey, and whatever else on his daily trek. Full of rage, he is forced to fight back and chase the men out of the forest. Like Batman haha. But a pissed-off grizzly bear.”

Drawing inspiration from the hard-hitting, old-school hardcore vibe of bands like Biohazard, the song opens with a memorable riff that immediately grabs the listener’s attention. As the track progresses, Freya seamlessly shifts into a thrash metal assault reminiscent of Slayer, showcasing the band’s ability to blend genres with precision and intensity.

Henry also comments that he wanted this track to crank and hit hard, “it’s about capturing that raw energy that makes hardcore and thrash so powerful”. “Blood Thirst” will appeal to both hardcore and metal fans alike, especially those with an interest in Earth Crisis, Terror, and Hatebreed.

Listen to “Blood Thirst” via its premiere on NoEcho HERE

“Blood Thirst” is available now at https://bfan.link/blood-thirst and is on all digital platforms via Upstate Records.

DEAD HEAT – California Crossover Collective Signs To Metal Blade Records | Live Dates Announced

Posted in hardcore, hardcore metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , on May 15, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Metal Blade Records is pleased to welcome Oxnard, California crossover collective DEAD HEAT to its iconic roster!

Forged in 2016, DEAD HEAT is known for their high-energy live performances and aggressive sound that draws influence from various subgenres of thrash, punk, hardcore, and metal. DEAD HEAT’s music is characterized by fast, thrashy riffs, driving rhythms, harmonious leads, and intense vocals that often veer into screamed or shouted terrain. Thematically, the band delves deep into social and political issues, as well as personal struggles and experiences.

In addition to crafting pulverizing music, the DEAD HEAT crew is notorious for their DIY approach to punk/metal culture and their involvement in the broader hardcore scene. The band members are regularly involved in booking shows and events in their local scene, as well as supporting various social and political causes.

Comments vocalist Christian Ramos of the band’s union with Metal Blade Records, “To be part of a label that has put out some of our favorite records and has had some of our favorite artists is without words an absolute honor!”

Adds rhythm guitarist Justin Ton, “We’re on the same label that birthed Slayer and put Metallica on the map. It’s an honor.” States Metal Blade’s Ryan Williams; US A&R, “DEAD HEAT fucking slays; it’s an honor to welcome them to the Metal Blade family.”

Over the course of their eight-year existence, DEAD HEAT has released a split with New York heavyweights Mindforce, two full-length albums, and several EPs including their most recent EP, Endless Torment, issued in 2023 on Triple B Records and Tankcrimes to critical acclaim.

DEAD HEAT has toured extensively, playing shows across the United States, Europe, and Japan. The band will play a one-off show supporting Bodycount later this month before joining Drain, Terror, Angel Dust, and End It for a short run of shows in June. In July, the band will bring their onstage bedlam to European stages. The latest stretch of live dates follow the band’s successful run supporting Municipal Waste, Ghoul, and Necrot on the inaugural Brainsqueeze Tour earlier this year. See all confirmed dates below.

SUNMANCER Unleashes Explosive Hardcore Single “Chasm Darkly” and Tour Dates With AUGUST BURNS RED

Posted in hardcore, hardcore metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, music videos with tags , , , , on May 4, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

L-R: Ramon Rellum (Drums/Backing Vocals), Kyle Mazlik (Guitar), Justin Mazlik (Vocals), Dan Nelson (Bass), Jeremy Harlan (Guitar)

Metallic hardcore heavy hitters Sunmancer are poised to shake the foundations of the metalcore scene with their latest video single “Chasm Darkly”. Known for their relentless energy and unyielding heaviness, Sunmacer is also hitting the road with August Burns Red and Fuming Mouth in May (dates listed below) where listeners can catch the track live. The band comments on the song:

“Compared to our other songs, Chasm Darkly came together relatively quickly. This song was written in a span of a few hours, and only very minor tweaks were made after the demo was recorded. Everyone in the band really enjoys the vibe of the song, and it’s the first one that Ramon, our drummer, was able to sing on. The lyrical content is purposely left open to interpretation so that the listener can glean their own meaning. We are extremely proud of this song, and feel that it represents the musical direction we are moving in as a band.”

Lyrically, “Chasm Darkly” can be open to interpretation, but vocalist Justin Mazlik wrote it with his own struggles and anxiety in mind. Musically, Sunmancer wanted this track to have a wide range of feelings – going from heavy riffing with blast beats to epic choruses and calm bridges. They don’t revisit many of the riffs in the song, as to take the listener on more of a “journey” as opposed to just a verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Chasm Darkly” at https://youtu.be/VLFtYJUywtE

Formed by brothers Kyle and Justin MazlikSunmancer rose from the ashes of Broadcast The Nightmare, carving out their own path in the metal landscape. Teaming up with Atlanta-based guitarist Jeremy Harlan of Faith In Ruin, the band’s lineup solidified with the addition of Dan Nelson on bass and Ramon Rellum on drums.

Chasm Darkly” is intended to be more than just a song, it is an experience – from the intense blast beats to the serene interludes, every element of the track is carefully crafted to evoke emotion and resonate with the audience. It is recommended for fans of Killswitch Engage, Counterparts, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

GHOST SPIRIT Celebrate HARDCORE With New Track, “The Tradition That Remains”

Posted in hardcore, hardcore bands, hardcore metal, hardcore music, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , on July 25, 2023 by Metal Odyssey

“The Tradition That Remains” cover

July 25, 2023 – Ghost Spirit, the L.A. hardcore band who surprised fans in early June with the release of “Kill The Strife,” the group’s first new music in four years, have now released an additional single via Blue Swan/Rise Records: “The Tradition That Remains” (watch the video here).

“’The Tradition That Remains’ is a heartfelt anthem celebrating the unbeatable spirit and promising future of the hardcore scene,” explains vocalist Alex Bigman of the Will Putney (Every Time I Die, Knocked Loose) mixed and Phil Odom (Code Orange, Portrayal of Guilt) engineered track. “Amid the Covid lockdowns, just like everyone else, we were deeply concerned about the fate of our beloved community’s shows. It seemed as though the very existence of the scene was at stake. Determined to rally the troops and reignite the passion, we set out to create a song that would unite us all. Out of the pandemic we overcame the challenges, and now in 2023 the scene feels more alive than ever. This music video, lovingly captured on Super 8mm, Super VHS, and digital formats, beautifully portrays the essence of this journey during the unforgettable run of our recent sold-out shows. We proudly declare that the tradition endures, binding us together in our shared love for hardcore, and illuminating a bright path towards the future.”

Photo credit: Connor Laz and Cameron Gile

Ghost Spirit released Hourglass in 2019, with the 8-song album landing on Rolling Stone’s staff’s personal best of lists, and being praised by outlets for capturing the band’s DIY spirit. Idioteq said the collection is “sonically and thematically immense,” while Sputnik Music noted the band’s ability to juxtapose “tenderness and honesty” with “frantic guitar work… and the pained screams of Alex Bigman.”

The band is currently writing a new album with additional details to be revealed soon.

Ghost Spirit is Alex Bigman (vocals), Taylor Jewell (drums), Niko Zaglaras (guitar) and Evan Henkel (bass).

Cro-Mags And Ringworm Concert Photo Gallery And Review – From Madison Live! In Covington, Kentucky, March 17, 2023

I went with my buddy Troy to see Cro-Mags and Ringworm, down in Covington Kentucky, at Madison Live!, on March 17, 2023. Both of these bands have been on my bucket list for many years. Suffice to say I had an amazing time seeing and hearing these bands, up close!

The line-up for Cro-Mags has changed over the years; however, the legendary band founder Harley Flanagan has once again proved to his fans he is still at his very best in performing live. With a mixed crowd of both younger and older fans, the Hardcore stage diving and insane pit of yesteryear was non-existent; save for a pit that was more congenial than over aggressive.

Two or three scuffles broke out in the crowd and Harley Flanagan was very quick to diffuse the scuffles. Harley made it clear his lack of tolerance for fighting. Harley also let his feelings be known for unity, brotherhood and being grateful for your loved ones. I couldn’t agree more. There were parents that took their little kids to this show. As for the music, I couldn’t stop moving; with my cane and screwed up knees. We’ve all gotten older and Harley doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. He’s forever immortalized in Metal and Hardcore history.

Photo credit: Stone/Metal Odyssey – above: Human Furnace of Ringworm

Cleveland Ohio’s Ringworm didn’t hold back nothing. They blazed and thundered through their set of songs like killer hornets. Human Furnace led his band like the Metal titan he is, vocally menacing. Opening for Cro-Mags, Ringworm set the Metal vibe on course. I always have more energy in the first half of any concert; thus I went into the pit with my cane and enjoyed every second of it. My fellow Metal brethren joined me in the pit, to cheer me on and make certain I didn’t fall down. It was more a nostalgic ceremony of yesteryear than anything else. I was so grateful to the brother/sisterhood that graciously joined me in celebration. My knees hurt so bad out there and the love and support I received from that Metal gathering brought me close to tears. I’ll never forget that night. God Bless them all and both bands. – Stone

Stream KRUELTY’s Untopia HERE.

Untopia, the second LP from Tokyo, Japan’s brutalizing metallic hardcore quintet KRUELTY, is now streaming in its entirety on the eve of its worldwide release through Profound Lore Records.

Formed in Tokyo in the summer of 2017, KRUELTY has emerged as the most notable artist to find that sweet spot where heavy beatdown hardcore and ‘90s American/Scandinavian death/doom metal meet. This devastating amalgamation becomes the blueprint of brutality and slam the band unleashes. With KRUELTY, you will hear the ultimate convergence of some of the most punishing death metal riffs and the most mind-blowing breakdowns influenced by Japanese and ‘90s East Coast hardcore bands.

2020 saw the release of KRUELTY’s debut album A Dying Truth and revealed itself as one of the heaviest albums that year. With their second LP, Untopia, the band will release an album even more massive in scope and ultimately heavier than their debut. The bulldozing seven-song record was produced by Taylor Young at The Pit Studios (Nails, Xibalba, Section H8) while the band was touring in the US earlier this year, mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Terminal Nation, Mindforce), and features artwork by Norwegian artist Sindre Foss Skancke.

Endure KRUELTY’s entire Untopia LP now at YouTube RIGHT HERE.

Untopia will see release through Profound Lore tomorrow, Friday, March 17th, on LP, CD, CS, and digital formats. Find preorders HERE and watch the “Harder Than Before” video HERE.

KRUELTY continues touring across the planet in support of Untopia. Having just completed tours of New Zealand and Australia, KRUELTY will now crush through their home country this week for ten dates on the Untopia Japan Tour, running from March 17th through April 2nd. Formed in 2016 by guitarist Tyler Harper and drummer Jeremy Randazzo, the initial idea for CAPRA was to create something that would be fresh while still giving listeners a sense of nostalgia for the sounds of the late ’90s and early 2000s hardcore and punk scenes. Following various lineup changes, and adding Crow Lotus (vocals) and Trevor Alleman (bass) to their ranks, everything came together.

The band’s most recent full-length, In Transmission (2021) — recorded with Jai Benoit (Golgothan, Father Rust), then mixed by Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues), and mastered by Brad Boatwright (Pig Destroyer, Integrity, Torche, Idle Hands) — represents the culmination of years of hard work, reflecting everything they’ve been writing and pouring into the band since solidifying the lineup.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches on new material with details to be unveiled in the weeks to come. In the meantime, preview and purchase In Transmission at THIS LOCATION.

NIHILIST DEATH CULT’s (members ex-Pestilence, Abyss, Tribe of Pazuzu, Soulstorm) Release Video For “Obey & Consume” Off Debut “Death To All Tyrants”

Posted in hardcore, hardcore bands, hardcore metal, hardcore punk, Metal, Music, music news, music videos, news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 14, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Nihilist Death Cult has recently released its debut album“Death To All Tyrants”. They are now releasing a video for the track “Obey & Consume”, which is about just following blindly and not questioning anything, and being a good consumer. The time to fight is always now, not later and it was inspired by John Carpenter’s “They Live”.

The video can be seen and heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The album “Death To All Tyrants” is in-your-face punk rock that combines angry riffs and hate-fuel lyrics about how the corporate-sponsored news media feeds you the stories and ideas they are paid to push. This record is about the victims standing up to the tyrants, it’s about choosing your own path and not blindly following norms if they don’t suit you. Bassist/vocalist Nick Sagias writes most of the music, but takes in input from his brother, drummer John Sagias and guitarist Ethan Bolduc. He shares their writing process:

“When I started writing for NDC, I knew that I wanted it to be aggressive, relentless, savage, no breakdowns, short songs, angry hardcore punk, the fact that my brother’s drumming fit perfectly in that and he was into it was a bonus for this otherwise it probably never would have happened. We just wanted to do this relentless style that we love and miss. Poison Idea, early DRI, early Bad Brains, the early dbeat bands, Discharge and GBH, that stuff gets the blood pumping and that’s the kinda stuff we wanna hear and see live.”

Those that get to witness Nihilist Death Cult play live can expect seasoned veterans going up on stage and putting on a show to match the energy of the music. There are no shoegazers here, just three passionate guys that want people to get into their music. They may be from Toronto but they are not a typical attitude Toronto band, they are the antithesis of that attitude.

The relatable lyrics are well enunciated making each of the nine songs on the album easy to pick up and get into. Nihilist Death Cult is recommended for fans of early DRI, early Bad Brains, and Nails.

The album was released on December 2, 2022 and is available at https://nihilistdeathcult.bandcamp.com

Chicago hardcore unit HARM’S WAY have announced a trio of live dates. On December 16th, the band will play a headlining show at The X Bar in Cupertino, California. The following night, the band will appear at The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California for day one of the two-day For The Children Toy Drive – an annual event that collects toys to be distributed to those in need – where they’ll play alongside Rotting Out, Drain, King Nine, Koyo, Fuming Mouth, and more.

In February, the band will take part in the inaugural HeartSupport Festival in Orlando, Florida. Launched by August Burns Red frontman Jake Luhrs to benefit his HeartSupport non-profit foundation, HARM’S WAY will perform on day two of the two-day fest alongside Rise Against, The Ghost Inside, Spiritbox, and many others. Tickets are on sale now. See all confirmed dates below.

HARM’S WAY:
12/16/2022 The X Bar – Cupertino, CA [tickets]
12/17/2022 For The Children Toy Drive @ The Belasco Theater – Los Angeles, CA [tickets]
2/19/2023 HeartSupport Festival @ Central Florida Fairgrounds – Orlando, FL [tickets]

HARM’S WAY’s most recent full-length, Posthuman, was released on Metal Blade Records in 2018. Having grown with each subsequent release, Posthuman was a devastating addition to HARM’S WAY‘s catalog. In 2019, HARM’S WAY released a remix EP of Posthuman titled PSTHMN, a record the band called, “the evolutionary counterpart to our 2018 full-length, Posthuman.” PSTHMN includes four remixed and reinterpreted tracks by artists that have continually inspired and influenced the band throughout its tenure.

Founded in 1982, AGNOSTIC FRONT stands among the most esteemed pioneers of the hardcore genre. No band comes close in sonic and socio authenticity and sincerity where the struggles of survival on the streets have quite literally given life to a sound that remains as impactful today as it was over four decades ago. AGNOSTIC FRONT’s battering, socially critical sounds serve as the foundation of true New York Hardcore and helped initiate the emergence of crossover thrash. The group disbanded briefly in the early ‘90s but returned in 1998 with the crushing sounds of Something’s Gotta Give. Following a slew of pummeling offerings, the band, led by the inimitable roar of Roger Miret and Vinnie Stigma’s legendary charismatic guitar playing, released their critically lauded twelfth album Get Loud! in 2019, which, with its unapologetically honest lyrics and signature aggression, makes clear the band’s penchant to persevere.

Following various lineup changes, and adding Crow Lotus (vocals), Trevor Alleman (guitar), and Ben Paramore (bass) to their ranks, everything came together. In Transmission — recorded with Jai Benoit (Golgothan, Father Rust), then mixed by Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues), and mastered by Brad Boatright (Pig Destroyer, Integrity, Torche, Idle Hands) — represents the culmination of years of hard work, reflecting everything they’ve been writing and pouring into the band since solidifying the lineup.

“We wanted it to be the heaviest and most complete record we could possibly lay down, composed of only the best songs we’ve written over years of playing together,” says Paramore. “It’s the best set of songs we’ve ever had, and we’re all extremely proud of them, and each other, so we hope it sounds like a total passion project — because it is.”
