Black Bow Records is pleased to announce that they will release the debut album of Seattle’s Un, The Tomb of All Things. The album is 5 tracks of funeral doom featuring veterans of Seattle’s music scene, including Monte McCleery of Samothrace.

Black Bow Records owner Jon Davis (also of doom band Conan) had the following to say in regards to the release:

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Seattle black hole creators UN. A darker, more melancholy and heavy band does not exist today and we’re pleased that they wish to call Black Bow Records home. Their new release ‘The Tomb of All Things’ will blow your mind and gives everything that heavy music is lacking today. Effortless devastation.”

The Tomb of All Things will be released on December 4 2015 on CD and digital formats. Pre-orders are available (with free shipping inside the US) at this location:

About Un:

Originally formed as a 3-piece in the summer of 2012, the band combined their collective experiences and influences to create a unique blend of Doom and Post-Metal. After two self-released demos in 2013 and numerous performances around the Northwest, the band eventually expanded to add a second guitarist, further developing their sonic palette.

Utilizing thundering fuzz-trodden rhythms and cavernous reverb-soaked clean sections, the quartet continues pushing forth to forge a dynamic, immersive experience. “We wanted to create something more than just a ‘funeral doom’ record,” says Monte, the band’s guitarist/vocalist. “Our main concern was writing songs that are emotionally relatable without compromising atmosphere or intensity.” After unleashing The Tomb Of All Things in the fall of 2015 on Black Bow Records and plans to tour throughout 2016, Un’s cosmic vessel of melancholy and realisation will only continue to soar through the infinite cosmos… towards whatever end may wait.

DIGIPAKS STINK LIKE MONKEY POOP. HERE’S WHY…

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, humor, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , , on October 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 11.21.37 PM

Below you will find the Top 10 Reasons Why Digipaks Stink Like Monkey Poop. Enjoy.

______________________________

  • Digipaks crease, ding and tear VERY EASILY, even with delicate handling.
  • Even before you buy the damn digipak version off the retail shelf, it’s already dinged, creased or torn. That’s bullshit.
  • Guess what happens while taking the plastic wrap off of a digipak? You ding it. That’s insane bullshit.
  • It takes patience and skill to get the damn CD and liner notes out of the digipak sleeve. After doing so, the cardboard sleeve is dinged from your fingernails; not to mention the liner notes took a nasty beating too.
  • Digipaks get CRUSHED when stacked underneath a pile of CD jewel cases. Hell, a couple of magazines can crush a digipak. Again, that’s bullshit.

This is NO laughing matter!!!

Laughing Monkey - promo pic - 2015 - #667MO66777MNSSC

  • A digipak has NO defense against any liquid. At least a CD jewel case has a freaking fighting chance in protecting the liner notes and CD itself. Trust me, I know ALL about that one.
  • If you wanted to bury your digipak in the ground, for safekeeping, the life expectancy of the cardboard is 4 weeks. That’s intense bullshit.
  • A damaged CD jewel case can be easily replaced. A damaged digipak stalks your music collection, like the uninvited pain-in-the-ass that nobody gives a shit about. Do not get alarmed, for the respective CD and liner notes will always find themselves a new home inside a spare and cozy… jewel case.
  • Just opening and closing a digipak automatically CREASES the spine; not to mention leaving visible fingerprints all over the cardboard. That is unreal bullshit.
  • Purchasing a used CD as a digipak version is never a fun moment. The digipak 99.9% of the time is so freaking mishandled, dinged and worn; not to mention the disease ridden bacteria that has probably been absorbed by the cardboard itself. Yay. Um, bullshit.

FROM ASHES TO NEW “DOWNFALL” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

From Ashes To New - Downfall - promo EP cover pic - 2015 - #0339966MOSN

4 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4

FROM ASHES TO NEW are a Rap/Alternative Metal band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Their new EP Downfall has grabbed my attention in a positive way, as you’ll read below. The band’s debut studio album, Day One, is slated for a February 2016 release.

Adding to the excitement that is stirring within the From Ashes To New camp is their forthcoming supporting role on the Christmas Vacation Tour; a tour which boasts Falling In ReverseAtreyu and Assuming We Survive. From Ashes To New just concluded a supporting role on the Five Finger Death Punch Tour; a tour that also featured Papa Roach and In This Moment. ‘Nuff said and whoa.

I once lived in Pennsylvania for nearly seven years, right on the Allentown city line. During my time living there, I can easily state that Pennsylvania is a hot-bed for music. From the annual Berks Jazz Fest in Reading to Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with many bustling music clubs in-between, music is an essential part of social gathering in The Keystone State.

With the likes of Hall & Oates, Halestorm, Cinderella, Sinister Realm, Motionless In White, Candlelight Red and Poison originating from Pennsylvania, it doesn’t surprise me at all that such a talented band as From Ashes To New call this great state home as well.

From Ashes To New - promo band collage pic - 2015 - #993300MONSSMSC77

From Ashes To New: Matt Brandyberry (Vocals/Guitar/Keys/Programming) Chris Musser (Vocals) Branden “Boo” Kreider (Guitar/Vocals) Garrett Russell (Bass) Tim D’onofrio (Drums)

___________________________

From Ashes To New blend their styles of Rap and Alternative Metal together in a seamless fashion, with all four songs on their new EP: Downfall. These songs are filled with more hooks than a pro fisherman’s tackle box and flow with each other like a fresh mountain stream. Seriously, From Ashes To New have taken their own musical canvas and painted their own art upon it; there is very much originality here to be heard and embraced. Where some bands of this ilk can get downright annoying, From Ashes To New have sucked me into their melodious vacuum.

As the Rap Metal goes, I find it to be as cool of a listen as when Anthrax had done it many Metal moons ago. These are well written (both lyrically and musically) and thought-out songs on Downfall; while they’re also minus any lullaby moments too. The numerous spurts of heaviness throughout this EP makes it all the more enjoyable for me; plus I truly dig the vocals and chorus that From Ashes To New perform so very well. It appears that Lancaster, PA has exported a talent that I could not resist boasting about and I wish nothing short of the very best for From Ashes To New. Metal be thy name. – Stone.

BORNBROKEN – Post New Track ‘A Nation of Ignorance’ Protesting Canada’s Federal Election; Announce New Vocalist Pepe Poliquin (ex-Endast)

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on October 18, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

BornBroken - A Nation Of Ignorance - promo single cover pic - 2015 - #030033MSSMMOSC

Montreal’s Death Thrashcore rippers BORNBROKEN have added new vocalist Pepe Poliquin (ex-Endast) to their line up and have just unleashed a new whopper of a tune featuring Peloquin entitled ‘A Nation of Ignorance’ for metal heads gearing up to vote in Canada’s federal election this week.

‘Nation of Ignorance’ – http://bornbroken.bandcamp.com/track/a-nation-of-ignorance

Guitarist Mike Decker comments:

“Doesn’t it seem that there are more lies exposed than truths being revealed and are we are letting it happen right before our eyes? Our latest single talks about a nation of ignorance we elected into power, that conceals everything behind a cloak of secrecy, conspiracy and silence. Well it’s time we expose the incompetence, stop the confusion before it all turns into chaos. The best way to protest and raise your voice is by voting. Make yourself heard and not be one of the forgotten.

We also like to add, we like to welcome into the band Pepe Poliquin (ex-Endast) on vocals. Pepe stepped down from playing guitar (for health reasons) and has given everything he’s got to be the voice for BornBroken. We also like to thank everyone who hung out along for the ride since our debut album “The Healing Powers of Hate”. It’s been a long a bumpy road, since our last single “Watch the World Unwind”, with lots of curves and dead ends, but we always seem to pull through. In the immortal words of Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies) “You Cant Bring Me Down!.”

Its time to hear the cry once more, and feel the rise again! The battle hasn’t just begun and it will never be over, unless we raise our voices together as one. Keep in touch and most of all keep it real.”

About The Band:

BornBroken are a Montreal-based Metal band uniting the world through their unique take on explosive Death/Thrashcore. The band is three parts vocals with Pepe Waitforit Poliquin as the lead singer and Mike Decker and Simon Savard performing double-duty on guitar and vocals, one part low-end bass crafted by Tommy Vaillancourt and one hundred percent integrity.

BornBroken is the sound of the beaten and the fallen overcoming their outlook of a blackened tomorrow through the medium of aggressive, galloping Metal. Lyrically, the focus remains on taking sorrow and anger and rising up from the ashes to rebuild and heal a new world from one that’s crumbling down around us now. Lyrics have had a very personal connection for the band since their beginnings in 2008. Much of the band cut their teeth playing in local groups like Endast, Burn Unit, Dilute the Poison and Mort au Combat.

4 – I Will Rise

5 – Control

6 – It Has Begun

7 – Birth of The Broken

8 – Bleed The Sky

9 – Reborn From The Ashes

10 – The Healing Powers of Hate

Contrary to their raw, aggressive music they are incredibly passionate about truth, integrity, perseverance, loyalty and faith in humanity’s struggle for equality, which is all exposed on their debut album ‘The Healing Powers Of Hate’ released in 2013. The album was nominated for Metal Album of The Year at the 2014 GAMIQ Awards (Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec), fan voted as Album of The Week (June 10th, 2013) on Revolver Magazine, along with debuting #8 on Canadian College Loud Charts, plus was named one of the best unsigned Heavy Metal Bands for June 2013 by Drago’s Dungeon on About.com – Heavy Metal.

The band is planning a heavy follow-up for 2016 and after months of writing and hours spent in the studio, BornBroken has managed to take every emotion they felt, put it to music, build on past battle scars and create a record where listeners will feel they are part of the story line. The band continues to create grinding, heavy music inspired by the likes of Hatebreed and Sepultura. Get ready to experience the monumental shift when the broken shall finally rise.

AGAINST EVIL “FATAL ASSAULT” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

Against Evil - Fatal Assault - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #3300MNSSMSC9939

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metal fists - 4.5 - album reviews metal odyssey

AGAINST EVIL are from Visakhapatnam, India and have their new studio EP, Fatal Assault, out via Transcending Obscurity. AGAINST EVIL is another fine Metal example as to why the underground Metal world rules. This EP begins with Battle Call, a 49 second intro that boasts both electric and acoustic guitars, a segue for the ripping and tearing The Enemy Within. Melodic guitar playing with clean vocals, this song has memorable seeping from its every Metal crevice.

Speedbreaker sounds like its name; all speed my Metal brethren! Can I say, memorable song number 2? Bulletproof is yet another solid showing of how this band can crunch and pound away with their brand of Metal, while incorporating clean vocals in such a non-subtle fashion. War Hero is my favorite song on Fatal Assault, due to its Power Metal meets Metal anthem and thundering style. Throughout this entire EP, the production is top-grade with obvious Thrash and Speed Metal influence. AGAINST EVIL’s Metal craft has obviously catapulted them to such a fine level of Metal creativity, in my Metal opinion.

Crank up The Enemy Within, below! Whoa!

It’s very cool that I have been introduced to AGAINST EVIL via their Fatal Assault EP. Guitarists Sravan (vocals & rhythm) and Shasank (lead) are a thrill to listen to. Noble John on drums is a lit stick of dynamite! Siri on bass and vocals is a player too, making it fun for me to crank the bass knob on maximum! Get your Metal radar turned towards AGAINST EVIL and thank the Metal Gods that this band exists. Metal be thy name. – Stone

A MESSAGE FROM SERAFINO PERUGINO, President of Frontiers Music srl

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, news, rock music with tags , , , , on October 17, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Frontiers Music srl - promo record label logo - 2015 - #33MNSMOSCT

As reported on Frontiers Music srl | Record Label website:

I have seen that some people are commenting with their disappointment that a few of the “so called” supergroups are not playing live and that this somehow diminishes the relevance or quality of these releases. A lot of negative vibes and preconceived notions are made before a note of music has even been released. This is not a new issue to us and we of course respect people’s opinions, but in these times of social media where direct communication to the fans is available, I thought I’d make a direct statement to explain how we, Frontiers see things.

Since the moment I put the label together, I saw this as one of the most exciting jobs that I could ever have imagined in my life. It was something that for years I was only able to dream of. The idea of working with the artists that for years and years I had been listening to on record was truly exciting. And after almost 20 years (yes, next year Frontiers will turn 20!), I think I have not lost one ounce of that initial enthusiasm! I was, and still am primarily a MUSIC fan and I have always interpreted my role as A&R director of Frontiers in a creative way. I have always been relentless in trying to find and expose GOOD MUSIC to the fans. And considering that when I started the label a lot of the classic bands that I grew up with were disbanded or not active, I think that I have really helped in creating some interesting pieces of music to fill the void left by those legends.

Since the days where – together with artists like Kevin Chalfant, Mark Mangold, Jim Peterik, Billy Greer or Tony Harnell to name a few – we created the concepts of Two Fires, The Sign, Seventh Key, Pride of Lions and Starbreaker, Frontiers has been the “brain” behind these new band projects which were greeted warmly by the public and the media. Now as to WHY those bands have never played live? Well to begin with it is not completely true that none of these projects have ever played live. In fact, The Sign, Two Fires, Seventh Key, The Magnificent, W.E.T, Angelica, ISSA, and I am certainly forgetting others, have all played live shows. And also, it needs to be said that there is nothing in principle that prevents these bands from playing live. In most cases, unfortunately this has to do with a lack of interest from tour promoters and/or with scheduling conflicts among the members or even certain contractual obligations that the artists might have to their main band. However, I am pleased to say that there will be more and more efforts from our side to bring these projects to life on the stage moving forward – and you will soon see what I mean.

So, yes, I think I am creative and again, what still preoccupies me the most, after all these years, is to keep releasing GREAT records that keep Classic Rock, Melodic Rock, and Hard Rock alive and well with a constant flow of quality releases. This – I think – allows everyone to keep ENJOYING new and exciting music while allowing me to keep building on my personal dreams thanks to the art, talent and skill of all these amazing musicians we are so fortunate to work with. Just think about all the amazing records from the likes of ALLEN LANDE, FROM THE INSIDE, ISSA, KHYMERA, KISKE SOMERVILLE, PLACE VENDOME, FIRST SIGNAL, SUNSTORM, VERTIGO and all the others…

I really hope that people can welcome with open arms the music we release and give it a fair chance, regardless of who is involved, if the artist is touring, etc. Moreover I wish to say one final thing: If it wasn’t for some of those projects, we would have had a lot more difficulties in launching new talents. The most shining example is probably W.E.T, whose success immensely helped the exposure for two of the most EXCITING new bands we have on the roster, Eclipse (Sweden) and Work of Art. But, I could obviously mention Revolution Saints for Alessandro Del Vecchio, Allen Lande for Magnus Karlsson, Starbreaker for Fabrizio Grossi, Find Me for Daniel Flores, and of course all the work we did during the years with Dennis Ward and so on. These groups are also a really important tool to expose new songwriters, producers and real musical talents to the world.

Talking about new bands, you may have noticed some “young blood” coming in. I am very proud of these new guys and I hope you will follow and give them a chance, exactly in the same way you would do with a new Whitesnake or Journey record.

Long Live Rock n’ Roll!!

Serafino

On This Day In METAL History – October 16th… From DEEP PURPLE To IRON MAIDEN

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on October 16, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers - promo album cover pic - 1984 - #MONSSMM33033

On October 16th, 1984 – The great DEEP PURPLE released their eleventh studio album: Perfect Strangers. I love this album so much! Honestly, I recommend this album to every music loving human being on planet Earth. I remember getting my first copy of Perfect Strangers on cassette! I bought it back in ’84 at Strawberries Records & Tapes in Avon, Connecticut. Whoa!

Perfect Strangers featured the super legendary “Mark II” lineup of: guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, vocalist Ian Gillan, Jon Lord on keys & organ, Ian Paice on drums and Roger Glover on bass. My favorite songs on Perfect Strangers are: Knocking At Your Back Door, Perfect Strangers, Wasted Sunsets and Hungry Daze.

Kiss - Asylum - promo album cover pic - 1985 - #090306MNSS4E

On October 16th, 1985KISS released their thirteenth studio album: Asylum. This is not one of my favorite KISS albums, yet King Of The Mountain and Any Way You Slice It are very cool songs. Tears Are Falling kinda gets on my Metal nerves, after all these years. The album cover is cheesy too. Hell, the late & great Eric Carr has the bottom of his face cut-off on this Asylum album cover. All Hell - The Red Sect - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #66099MO33S

The Red Sect, the new album North Carolina Blackened Thrashers ALL HELL, is out today on Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. Purchase and/or stream the album at:

hpgd.bandcamp.com/album/the-red-sect.

CD orders: www.horrorpaingoredeath.com/store/hpgd117.html

The Red Sect marks a crossroads for the band; the straightforward aggression of their debut blends with a seething, menacing atmosphere-further enhanced by the mixing and mastering skills of TOXIC HOLOCAUST main man Joel Grind, creating an album that is dark, vicious, and compelling. The record’s ten tracks weave a frightful narrative of ritual possession, vengeance, and revolt. The band has further explored and defined their sound, once again drawing influences from a wide array of genres such as Thrash, Black Metal, Deathrock, and Punk.

“A thoroughly electrifying romp, a ripping rampage of thrashing riffs, punk rhythms, and mad-dog snarls. Hooky as hell and as nasty as a famished wolverine.” – No Clean Singing

“A fiesta of satanic proportions where demons, whores and cocaine are abundant.” – Dark Souls United

“A holocaustic punk hybrid of black metal and rock n’ roll, influenced by Motörhead, Thrash Metal tunes and rabid attitude.” – Zombie Ritual Fanzine

Playing and touring throughout the Southeast, the band has quickly developed a following and earned a reputation as one of the most intense and lethal live acts in the region, having shared the stage with bands like 1349, Black Tusk, Ghoul, Skeletonwitch, and Toxic Holocaust. With their relentless drive, growing support, and two albums under their belt, ALL HELL pushes forward, intent on spreading their hellish music and intense live experience to as many people as possible ALL HELL is currently booking dates for Winter and Spring tours in support of The Red Sect.

FLUMMOX – To Release New Album

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on October 15, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

FLUMMOX - promo artwork - 2015 - #9393MOSSMN77733

Above: album cover art by Tristan Whitley

Progressive Sludge three-piece Flummox are set to release their latest album Selcouth in early 2016. After the genre-defying Phlummoxygen (2015), Selcouth is sure to be another memorable release. The band defy traditions even within a genre as obscure and exciting as sludge metal. The band’s ability to merge technicality with the absolutely outrageous has left eager, excited and perplexed ears waiting for this next release.

The Tennessee outfit merge a traditionally Southern sound with an avant-garde sludge infused with Zappa-esque tendencies. This is not just flummoxing for the fun of it; the band are infectious, technically gifted and full of rhythm. Flummox is a well-selected band name and in listening to Selcouth you can expect disharmony, you can expect to be confused and you should expect a pronounced Tennessee drawl.

Flummox officially tell the music world to expect the unexpected with this next release and will continue to surprise, shock and weird people out. Not afraid to show some personality with vocal outbursts and heavy riffing, the trio have the ability to pull in lovers of all genres ranging from sludge to experimental, jazz and funk.

Each song on Selcouth is a sure-fire attempt to defy tradition and pull in inspiration from their eclectic set of influences including Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Opeth and King Crimson. Being fearlessly weird is a foolproof way of getting attention, and Flummox are sure to have everybody listening.

Flummox - band promo pic - 2015 - #33MOMSSNSC65780

Band Bio:

The birth of Flummox came from an insatiable need to create music without restraints and limits. Blake Dellinger and Drew Jones came together after feeling unsatisfied with bands that limited their musical endeavors. Their first three track EP The MindrapE.P. was released in 2012 with drummer Matt Rose and solidified the band’s status as a force to be reckoned with within the Tennessean music scene. By the end of 2012, they had played nearly 20 shows and cemented the band’s playful energy with various incarnations and stage antics.

In late 2013, Flummox recorded their first album, Phlummoxygen, with engineer Dave Summers in his Tullahoma, Tennessee home studio. In early 2014 after the album was finished, Flummox signed on with Tridroid records who gave the album a March 2015 CD/Cassette release.

Currently, the Flummox trio consists of Dellinger, Jones, & Jody Lester as the singing drummer. The band’s new album is due in winter of 2016.

STANDING OVATION – Releases Second Album On November 27th

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on October 14, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Standing Ovation - Gravity Beats Nuclear - promo album cover pic - 2015 - 939339NSSMo14E

Standing Ovation. That melting pot of musical styles, the shimmering red blast furnace, the catalyst of the industrial revolution, the seismologist’s worst nightmare. Once again will the tectonic plates rip apart and the Earth’s magnetic poles will switch places when the band releases their next album which is titled “Gravity Beats Nuclear”.

The album title refers to the creation of all life – Gravity. Without this, no stars would have ever been born and hence no life either. Although the album deals with powerful themes of life, the familiar trademark of twisted humor is once again included with a pinch of science fiction.

Standing Ovation - promo band pic - 2015 - #33033NMSSMO01

The musical extremes are widened further and once more, it’s a roller-coaster ride which you hop on blindfolded not knowing what surprises there will be around the corner. And last but not least, has the coating been decorated by much richer melody frosting.

Gravity Beats Nuclear – Track List:

1. 23+23
2. Permafrost
3. Killer, Iron
4. Hellbillies
5. Fool’s Parade
6. Lifeline
7. The Great Attractor
8. Run Little Mouse Run
9. I Am

North Carolina Death Merchants NECROCOSM Release Debut Album ‘Damnation Doctrine’ – Full Album Streaming

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on October 13, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Necrocosm - Damnation Doctrine - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #66733033MOSCMM

North Carolina Death Merchants NECROCOSM have just released one Hell of a savage, penetrating debut album called Damnation Doctrine. Purchase and/or stream the album in its entirety at http://necrocosm666.bandcamp.com/ or below:

NECROCOSM was born of fire in chaos during the bleakest period of the year 2011. Three remaining members from a deceased project decided to embrace their dark inspiration and craft music in a new sinister direction. Formation of the circle was complete in 2012. Many beers were had, copious heads were banged and much blood was spilled, as the dark assembly forged this new sonic beast in the crucible of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

NECROCOSM is your shadow in the darkness, your cruel reminder that your time is short and death always prevails. Positivism never being our strong-suit, the growled, grunted, and shrieked lyrical themes are the darkened horizon obliterating all hope, devastating guitar riffs and solos melt more faces than the ark of the covenant, the inhuman drumming annihilates your empty fractured skull and the grinding bass is guaranteed to evacuate your bowels. We are gaining ground slowly but surely, promising to infect the ears and minds of our audience and remind them of the haunting darkness that awaits us all in the end. There is no eternal life in paradise or damnation in hell. Only the dreadful quiet of the eternal void.
