John Sykes was NEVER a part of this band! Myself & Billy were previously working w John on an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PROJECT (consisting of all strictly John’s material).
When that didn’t pan out, Billy & I began working FROM SCRATCH with Richie (with all 3 of us collaborating together) on an entirely new band…and THAT is when The Winery Dogs were born. It is important that people understand this!!

The August 2013 issue of Guitar World features a tribute to Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman, who influenced a generation and changed the course of Metal forever. Guitar World presents the complete, untold story of the late Slayer guitarist who was behind such legendary Thrash anthems as “Angel of Death,” “South of Heaven” and “War Ensemble.”
With food, beer and America at the forefront, it only makes sense guitar player/vocalist Christian Gordy and drummer Taryn Waldman would meet at Gordy’s 2011 July 4th cookout in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Waldman, a former Hooter’s waitress turned big time commercial film editor, and Gordy, a one-legged bartender/artist/BBQ enthusiast were an oddball couple for NY’s heavily styled Metal scene. The duo began rapidly banging out monolithic snail-paced riffs that could party as much as they could crush. BLACKOUT — referring to blackout drunk, the absence of light, or a mobster hit on an entire family — was the only appropriate title for the band.
With a three-song demo recorded at the now defunct Headgear Studios in the bag, Waldman set out on the task of stalking and acquiring drum wizard Justin Sherrel for the bass position. The sound filled out and quickly grew like Chuck Berry’s mustache. Now with Sherrel’s nitty-gritty, rhythm-heavy mud beneath an electrical tide of riffs and explosions, the mighty river of sludge was primed to lurch forward.
In November 2012 BLACKOUT recorded their debut LP, We Are Here, at Vacation Island studio with engineer/producer Rob Laakso (Diamond Nights, Swirlies, Kurt Vile). It’s a six-song relentless banger from beginning to end: no interludes or acoustic wankery. Fittingly described as “thick, riff-led heavy psych that blends Sleep‘s stoner heyday and classic Melvins stomp with a touch of Rob Crow‘s vocal compression in Goblin Cock,” by The Obelisk in a recent live review, the band is ready for a full-fledged takeover. BLACKOUT will soon be knocking on your door like a hairy, black clad Jehovah’s Witness who wants to smoke you out and listen to Sabbath records.
Until then, rape your speakers with the band’s foundation-crumbling behemoth of a three-track album sampler, currently streaming at their official BandCamp page at THIS LOCATION.
In related news, the trio will be bringing their bottom-heavy audio pillage to the stage this Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Acheron in their hometown of Brooklyn. On September 3rd, Shadow Kingdom Records will release The Innocent, The Forsaken, The Guilty – a collection of rare recordings from enigmatic psychedelic metallers THE MEZMERIST. The Shadow Kingdom reissue will feature a CD compiled of the band’s two EPs, recorded in 1983 and 1985 and a DVD detailing the history of THE MEZMERIST.
The Mezmerist is one of the most mysterious US Metal acts of all time. Few even know who The Mezmerist is and to find an original LP is a chore as the band held on to most of the copies pressed. Originally issued in1985 and limited to 500 copies, today those copies have gone for extremely high prices on eBay. The Shadow Kingdom records reissue marks the first time anyone who knew about this lost gem made contact with the band. SKR was fortunate in finding the mastermind behind the band – Thomas Mezmercardo. After tracking Mezmercardo down, an additional five years was spent on this release to ensure it was done properly and with all of the parties and work involved.
Speaking of all parties involved, one of the most interesting things about this release is that Bill Ward did in fact play drums on the four tracks that make up the 1983 EP. The circumstances surrounding the events back then are somewhat of a mystery, even to this day. Mezmercardo sits down and tells the story of how all of this came together on the DVD portion of the release.
The Innocent,The Forsaken, The Guilty is not just any old over-hyped cult release that some of these other labels are feeding you. This is the definition of the perfect lost gem in 80’s heavy metal history and by far one of the best cult classic metal albums you’ll ever hear. Psychedelic Heavy Metal is the most apt way describe this band that offers shades of Led Zeppelin, Cirith Ungol, and Mercyful Fate.
Chase Manhattan and Matt Price of Los Angeles-based Stoner/Doom outfit BEHOLD!THE MONOLITH have issued the following statement on the tragic loss of singer/bassist Kevin McDade:
“We are deeply saddened to report the loss of our band member, friend and brother Kevin McDade in a car accident early Friday evening. Needless to say we are absolutely devastated by this. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his parents, family and girlfriend. Thanks for the time we had and the music we made together. We will, and already do, miss you terribly. -Chase and Matt”
Kevin McDade died as a result of an auto accident on Friday, June 21st. He was 29 years old.

It was a pleasure to share the stage with such a great talent but as a band we need to be able to move forward & work as hard as we can to take Adrenaline Mob to the next level.
