Argus - Beyond The Martyrs - promo cover pic

Cruz Del Sur Music will release Beyond the Martyrs, from US Doom Metal outfit ARGUS, on October 1st in North America, with an October 7th release in the UK.

Beyond the Martyrs starts where their 2011’s release Boldly Stride the Doomed had left us…at the Ruins of Ouroboros. In between these two releases ARGUS has tested its strength and valor in several live shows both in their homeland and in Europe, receiving high praises from fans and from the record industry. Although a sense of impending fate marks again their compositions, the characteristic Doom Metal elements which were a distinguished trademark of ARGUS’ past releases have now given way to what is primarily to a genuine Heavy Metal approach, its nature rooted in the most classic environment of Heavy Metal tradition.

ARGUS’ third album is sure to force Metal Heads everywhere to raise horn-crested fists to the sky. Beyond the Martyrs contains the hallmarks of their previous works – twin guitars, soaring vocals, and a driving rhythm section; it is heavy, melodic, epic, and brooding all at once. After their successful shows at festivals such as Hammer of Doom in 2011 and Dublin Doom Days in 2012, the band will hit again the European soil with a proper tour in October 2013 in order to promote Beyond the Martyrs.

ABOUT ARGUS:

Pennsylvania’s ARGUS stormed onto the underground Metal scene with their twin guitar-driven, doom-tinged, working class Metal sound. Releasing a self-recorded demo in early 2007 on John Brenner’s (Revelation/Against Nature) DIY label, Bland Hand Records, the band was roundly welcomed by the Metal community at home as well as abroad and established its foundation amongst friends/fans within the scene. With this initial momentum, the band created a buzz that was only solidified by their punishing live performances.

Their self-titled debut album was released in May of 2009, receiving much critical praise. Following, was the 2011 release of the epic album Boldly Stride The Doomed, which also marks a switch to the record label, Cruz Del Sur. The band has continued to gain notoriety, traveling abroad and around the U.S. The release of their third full-length album, Beyond The Martyrs, is staged for release in October 2013.

DIESTO “For Water Or Blood” – One HEAVY Album For Your 2013 NEED List!

4.5 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4Metal Odyssey - Metal Fist - Half!

DIESTO – Portland, Oregon is home to DIESTO; a band that’s incredibly heavy, from every musical angle, note and lyric. Every instrument played in this band is played heavy as freaking hell. Stoner, Doom and even CLUTCH fans who’ve not heard DIESTO (yet) will revel in this band’s sound. Aw, hell, any Metal fan will have something to marvel at with DIESTO; this band is that good. DIESTO = Riff Fest.

DIESTO will be seeing their fifth album, For Water Or Blood, release on August 27th, via (the mighty) Eolian Empire. This new DIESTO album is without any Metal doubt in my Metal mind, one you have to put on your need list. I want to feature the very best on Metal Odyssey and give my fellow Metal brethren choices that are (to me) legit and badass. DIESTO fits that Metal criteria very well.

DIESTO:

Mark Bassett – Guitar & Vocals
Chris Dunn – Guitar & Vocals
Devon Christian Shirley – Drums
Rusty Powers – Bass

DIESTO pronounces the old school Doom in their songs (think early Black Sabbath) and makes it all sound so rich and powerful! Don’t be fooled that there is (only) 7 songs on For Water Or Blood, these songs are not quickies. This is an album for the backwoods bonfires, with kegs tapped and beer flowing abundantly, below a smoke-filled night sky. This is an album for the big cities too, DIESTO is a band you want your elitist neighbors to hear you playing LOUD so they don’t think of messing with you.

DIESTO are outstanding Metal musicians in my Metal world; listening to these dudes hammer away on this album is a great way to escape from the shit going on in the world right now. The sandpapered and Herculean vocals of (guitarist) Chris Dunn are simply awesome. For Water Or Blood was just the Metal remedy I needed this past week, to keep my Metal veins pumping and my Metal soul burning bright. Metal be thy name.

In other news, premium subscription channel SHOWTIME just picked up the documentary “Last Days Here” from influential Doom legends PENTAGRAM–showings can be found here:

PENTAGRAM’s most recent album, Last Rites, was released via Metal Blade Records on April 14, 2011 and their first ever official DVD (also out on Metal Blade), When the Screams Come, on August 30, 2011. Both releases were met by rave reviews from fans and critics alike and saw the band playing sets at infamous SXSW festival in Austin, Texas as well as tours across the US and dates in Europe.

Recently, after months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM announced the addition of their new guitarist Matt Goldborough. His debut with the “Ram Family,” rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. If that gig wasn’t special enough, the band performed songs not heard live in over 40 years! Inspired by a demand from the fans, Liebling and company pulled out rare gems, including Be Forewarned. BLACKOUT – New York Psychedelic Doom Trio Unleashes Three-Track Sampler

Blackout - We Are Here - 3 song sampler - promo coverBand To Level Brooklyn’s Acheron This Saturday

_____________________________________

With food, beer and America at the forefront, it only makes sense guitar player/vocalist Christian Gordy and drummer Taryn Waldman would meet at Gordy’s 2011 July 4th cookout in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Waldman, a former Hooter’s waitress turned big time commercial film editor, and Gordy, a one-legged bartender/artist/BBQ enthusiast were an oddball couple for NY’s heavily styled Metal scene. The duo began rapidly banging out monolithic snail-paced riffs that could party as much as they could crush. BLACKOUT — referring to blackout drunk, the absence of light, or a mobster hit on an entire family — was the only appropriate title for the band.

With a three-song demo recorded at the now defunct Headgear Studios in the bag, Waldman set out on the task of stalking and acquiring drum wizard Justin Sherrel for the bass position. The sound filled out and quickly grew like Chuck Berry’s mustache. Now with Sherrel’s nitty-gritty, rhythm-heavy mud beneath an electrical tide of riffs and explosions, the mighty river of sludge was primed to lurch forward.

Blackout - promo band pic - 2013 - #44

In November 2012 BLACKOUT recorded their debut LP, We Are Here, at Vacation Island studio with engineer/producer Rob Laakso (Diamond Nights, Swirlies, Kurt Vile). It’s a six-song relentless banger from beginning to end:  no interludes or acoustic wankery. Fittingly described as “thick, riff-led heavy psych that blends Sleep‘s stoner heyday and classic Melvins stomp with a touch of Rob Crow‘s vocal compression in Goblin Cock,” by The Obelisk in a recent live review, the band is ready for a full-fledged takeover. BLACKOUT will soon be knocking on your door like a hairy, black clad Jehovah’s Witness who wants to smoke you out and listen to Sabbath records.

Until then, rape your speakers with the band’s foundation-crumbling behemoth of a three-track album sampler, currently streaming at their official BandCamp page at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, the trio will be bringing their bottom-heavy audio pillage to the stage this Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Acheron in their hometown of Brooklyn. The FREE daytime party features barbeque from Slam Pigs and Perry Ave. BBQ, additional appearances by Skullshitter, Hector’s Pets, Zoned Out and Cold Ones and DJs spinning rock into the night! DEMON LUNG – To Tour The West Coast In Support Of Debut Album

Dates are set to begin June 29th in Salt Lake City and wrap with a hometown show on August 18th.

The Hundredth Name was released June 4th via Candlelight Records. Since its release, the The Hundredth Name has found a solid support network among media and college radio programmers nationwide, peaking on CMJ’s Loud Rock report at position 14 with Full Metal Jacket/DMX programming the album in its syndication networks plus specialty and college play from the likes of WAQX (Syracuse NY), WZGM (Asheville NC), WHMH (St. Cloud MN), WSOU (S. Orange NJ), WCSB (Cleveland OH), KFSR (Fresno CA), and WIXQ (Millersville PA), among many others.

Demon Lung - The Hundredth Name - promo cover pic

Las Vegas Weekly says, “everything about DEMON LUNG’s debut screams epic.” Metal Review confirms, “vocalist Shanda Fredrick’s measured delivery is bleak and monotone… a grimly deliberate wail that works magic.” Pitchfork.com boasts, “Fredrick emerges like a high empress,“ while Vegas Seven adds, “literate and lacerating, the ‘LUNG breathes real fire.” The album was recently selected as “Album Of The Day” by Roadburn.com where they crowned DEMON LUNG “a band with promise.”

Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG self-released their EP Pareidolia in early 2012.  The band entered the studio to record The Hundredth Name with producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) in late December.  The Hundredth Name was completed in early 2013 with final artwork provided by rising English illustrator Tom Gates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

MAMMOTH SALMON “Internet EP 2” – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Mammoth Salmon - promo cover pic

MAMMOTH SALMON – Sludge, Doom, & Keeping it Real. Those exact words are found on the about page of MAMMOTH SALMON’s Facebook. Metal truth be told, that sums up this 3 song Internet EP 2 from this Portland, Oregon Metal band quite adequately. There is an Internet EP released prior from these guys, back in December of 2012. I’ll blab about that one too in the near future; working my way backwards, I guess!

This Internet EP 2 has recently been released this past March and it’s HEAVY as freaking homemade molasses and an all-out riff fest. Raw and damn cool are these 3 songs I’ve listened to on this EP. MAMMOTH SALMON aren’t following the leader with their sound either. The Sludge and Doom that this Metal pack from the Great Northwest is tapping into has an electric vibe happening; that’s where the real comes into play.

I just cannot control myself digging the way MAMMOTH SALMON have pieced these songs together, from a super thumping doom march to a crawling drone interval and back again; this band has caught my Metal attention. Paul Dudziak  (vocals, guitar & bass) and Mitch Meidinger on drums are the Dynamic Sludge Doom Duo that makes up MAMMOTH SALMON and it’s my Metal recommendation that you give them a listen.

I can honestly see MAMMOTH SALMON gaining some potent label attention (if the right person hears their Metal) in the near future, with such a strong mindset to keeping their songs both super heavy and fantastically interesting. Metal be thy name.

PRIMITIVE MAN “SCORN” – A Scathing, Blackened Doom Journey To The Outer Cliffs Of Hell

Posted in doom metal, Extreme Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , on June 18, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Primitive Front

PRIMITIVE MAN – As I listen to Scorn, I cannot help seeing myself being pulled into an invading dark vacuum that drops me upon the outer cliffs of hell. Seriously, the mood, atmosphere, vocals and overpowering vibes from Scorn sound so hellish that it’s ridiculously scary. Then again, that’s what Dark, Blackened and raging Metal will do to me every time. However, Primitive Man just comes across as so legitimately evil that I cannot help applaud their authenticity.

Primitive Man’s debut album Scorn will be reissued by the mighty Relapse Records on August 20th, 2013. Scorn exhibits some deadly serious Doom Metal, mixed with some Sludge and splattered with more darkness than a cloudy Northern sky during the height of Winter in Norway. It’s very difficult for me not to become (somewhat) hypnotized by the constant thundering stomp that Scorn radiates with its beats. Fuzzed-out, old school guitar tones blanket this album with a slice of Industrial noise and (a feeling of) cavernous atmospherics for special effects, making Scorn all the more legitimately chilling.

The title song (and album opener) is an epic that clocks in around 11:44 and is so memorable that I want to scream my face off in Metal jubilation.

If the album cover artwork doesn’t scare the shit out of you, then trust me, listening to Scorn by yourself with the lights dimmed or completely off will. Primitive Man is one Metal band from Denver, Colorado, that I want on my Metal side of the fence. I cringe at the thought of really hearing this band becoming pissed off to higher heights; Scorn has been a Metal lesson well deserved and more than welcomed for my Metal soul. Metal be thy name.

DEMON LUNG – Pitchfork Premieres New Track From Forthcoming Album “The Hundredth Name”

Demon Lung - The Hundredth Name - promo cover pic

Pitchfork.com has premiered “Heathen Child,” from DEMON LUNG’s forthcoming full-length debut. It’s the second song released from The Hundredth Name set for release via Candlelight Records on June 4. The conceptual album was produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

Discussing the song, drummer Jeremy Brenton reveals, “‘Heathen Child’ is the fifth track on the record and is definitely one of our favorites to play live. We got the gnarliest guitar tone at the end of that song. It’s the part of the story where our hero, the warlock, kills an unbaptized male child in order to make a flying potion from his fat. Don’t try this at home, especially without a sharp knife.”

Hear “Heathen Child” At THIS LOCATION.

Early reviews of The Hundredth Name are encouraging. Sludgelord.com writes, “The Hundredth Name is a masterpiece from top to toe… this IS doom.” Metal Review says, “This is a band that knows how to make Doom Metal dramatic,” while Vegas Seven adds, “DEMON LUNG’s debut record destroys. Literate and lacerating, the ‘LUNG breathes real fire.” With the album’s full impact at Metal radio nationwide set for this coming Monday, it is an album that will find a rightful place in the collections of doom and metal fans round the globe.

Demon Lung - Large Logo!!

Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG self-released Pareidolia in early 2012. The band was dubbed “Earthy-yet-horror-themed Doom Metal,” by Metal Hammer and, “One of the best new bands out there,” by PureGrainAudio. Signing with Candlelight Records last Autumn, the band featuring vocalist Shanda Fredrick, guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, with drummer Brenton, entered Oakland-based Sharkbite Studios in mid-December. Emerging a few weeks later, the album was turned over to Billy Anderson to work his mixing magic. Fredrick notes, “Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He helped us craft something we are very proud of.”

DEMON LUNG continues to perform live as the album’s release draws near. Confirmed performances are noted below.

The eight-song album was recorded with Adam Myatt and Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

The Hundredth Name is a conceptual album as previously confirmed by drummer Jeremy Brenton. Its story line follows, “The long-begotten son of Satan, who’s been sent to earth to assemble the three parts of the devil’s bible so that we can speak the name of God in reverse and undo creation.” Songstress Shanda Fredrick adds, “We have had the concept idea for the album for a few years. We have just been waiting until we signed to a proper label to finish writing it. Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He has been like a fifth member of the band, a mentor, and just an all-around awesome friend. He helped us craft something that we are very proud of.”

Formed in 2011, DEMON LUNG features guitarist Phil Burns and bassist Patrick Warren, with Fredrick and Brenton. The band has a singular EP, Pareidolia (Bandcamp 2012), currently available. The recording was favorably received by international media. “Earthy-yet-horror-themed doom metal a-la Candlemass,” said Metal Hammer. “Their hazy atmosphere and unorthodox way of playing guitar in a doom metal band is an interesting approach that doom fans should immediately check out,” noted Metal Archives. “Their music is clearly from the soul,” added Ave Noctum. In their still short history, the band has performed alongside Pentagram, High on Fire, Jucifer, Witch Mountain, and Castle, among others.

MAJALIS – Signs With Pulverised Records

Posted in doom metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on April 5, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Pulverised Records - Large Logo!! B&W!

Swedish abjection horde MAJALIS is now in league with Pulverised Records!

With this project group suspended for several years and ultimately resurrected by the group’s pivotal figures Tobias Netzell and Björn Pettersson, also of In Mourning fame; MAJALIS is now ready to take the first leap forward and introduce the band’s debut EP to the unsuspecting world of mournful harmonious scorn.

In an official press statement from MAJALIS six-stringer Björn Pettersson: “We are happy and proud to be able to work with Pulverised for our debut EP. Some of us have been working together before and it feels like both us and the Pulverised guys are pretty stoked about this project, so we have no doubts that this will be a good collaboration.”

MAJALIS is a newly formed band but is hailing from a project that started quite some time ago, much of the material to this first EP was written by Tobias and Björn several years ago. Later the four of us got together and decided to make the project into a band, and now it feels perfect to be able to put these songs out as a first sign of life. All four members are active musicians in other bands and are no strangers to playing live or writing music, plus we all tend to work very well together so we have a lot of good vibes for this. The music we have recorded so far draws inspiration from some atmospheric, hardcore and doom-influenced territories. We are really eager to get going and to present what we are working on.”

Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo had this to say regarding the latest signing: “Having worked with In Mourning previously, we knew very clearly what Tobias, Björn and co. were capable of for sure. MAJALIS although are amongst the same musical territory with the likes of In Mourning, Katatonia, etc and its predecessors, they sound nothing like the aforementioned bands. There is really no better way to describe MAJALIS than somewhat sounding dangerously close to a funeral-like Post Rock band with unyielding depressive underlings.”

Revelation - Inner Harbor - promo cover pic!

April 30th, 2013 will see the release of Inner Harbor, the newest album from long-running Prog Rock/Doom outfit REVELATION.

In existence since the mid-80’s REVELATION has earned the respect of many bands and fans from all around the world and are often credited with creating the Progressive Doom Metal genre. They’ve taken the very best sounds of Rush, Black Sabbath, and early Heavy Metal to  create yet another masterpiece amongst a catalog of many with Inner Harbor. This is quite possibly the band’s most fluid and laid-back release to date. While the sound is difficult to pinpoint, one can hear classic REVELATION mixed in with a dash of 70’s Italian Progressive Rock. The music flows through you so smoothly and freely, that you’re going to feel like you’re in a state of deep relaxed meditation.

The combined creative forces of drummer Steve Branagan, guitarist/vocalist John Brenner and bassist Bert Hall Jr. are responsible for over twenty full-length releases – split between REVELATION and their eclectic alter-ego AGAINST NATURE – and countless demos and EPs. Inner Harbor was made available as a digital release last year by the band’s own Bland Hand Records (www.againstnature.us/BH/) and will see worldwide distribution on CD format by Shadow Kingdom Records in April. Pre-orders are being taken at the newly revamped Shadow Kingdom Records Webstore at http://shadowkingdomrecords.com.

CRITICAL PRAISE:

“Inner Harbor is a deft blend of the classic doom and progressive rock you expect from this trio…” – Terrible Certainty ‘Zine

“Inner Harbor finds Revelation as productive and relevant as ever. Long gone is the echo-y crunch of 20 years ago, and in its place is a record proudly recorded in a basement and challenging the very meaning of doom as many people claim to understand it.” -Stereokiller.com

DEMON LUNG – Signs To Candlelight Records

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of DEMON LUNG. The Las Vegas-based quartet, featuring guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, drummer Jeremy Brenton, and vocalist Shanda Fredrick, is scheduled to begin recording of their full-length debut at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California with producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, High on Fire, Eyehategod) in the coming weeks. It is anticipated for a Spring 2013 release date.

Metal Hammer called the band’s self-released 4-song demo Pareidolia, “earthy yet horror-themed doom metal a la Candlemass with an Acrimony Groove.” The magazine calls Fredrick a “wild-eyed, satanic songstress.” Popular music and film site Ave Noctum notes, “DEMON LUNG has a deft touch and solid sound. Their music is clearly from the soul. Fair to say they are a welcomed addition to the ranks of the doomed.” Teeth of the Divine adds, “Fredrick has the requisite sultry pipes that keep a steady, hazy tone. She has a deep, bluesy voice that fits the languid music perfectly.”

The band comments, “we are very honored to join the Candlelight roster. To be included among such talented artists is very humbling, and we thank the great people at Candlelight for giving us the opportunity.”

DEMON LUNG has shared the stage alongside Pentagram, High on Fire, Jucifer, Witch Mountain, and Castle and will resume performing once recording has been completed.

A video for the song “Lament Code’ is available to view at THIS LOCATION. The clip was directed by Dustin Mills, the mastermind behind The Puppet Monster Massacre.

PAGAN ALTAR – Shadow Kingdom Records Reissues PAGAN ALTAR’s “Judgement of the Dead”

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 17, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Shadow Kingdom Records is now offering the newly reissued Judgement of the Dead from cult N.W.O.B.H.M doom band PAGAN ALTAR. Originally released in 1982, Shadow Kingdom Records will stock North American shelves with this classic on January 8, 2013. Until then, fans can order the release exclusively through Shadow Kingdom Records.

For a digital copy and free stream of the album, visit the label’s bandcamp page here: http://shadowkingdomrecords.bandcamp.com/album/judgement-of-the-dead

Physical copies are available at http://shadowkingdomrecords.com/

Shadow Kingdom’s Tim McGrogan had this to say about the album:

“Back in 1982 PAGAN ALTAR released this N.W.O.B.H.M. masterpiece and almost immediately this album went into obscurity. They have been by far the most overlooked band in the history of heavy metal music. It’s amazing that they’ve finally pulled it all together for being virtually non-existent for nearly 15 years. They deserve all of the success and recognition they’re getting today and much, much more! In the late 90’s they came out of the woodwork and put this out on their own label and it was mistakenly called “Volume 1”. The extra track was an acoustic track which was just called “Acoustics” at the time. This is the first time this album will be released in all its glory. The correct title “Judgement of the Dead” and updated acoustic song title as well. Also, this is the original artwork that was released back in 1982 which has never been seen before until now! We’ve re-mastered the CD to sonically preserve its antique feel. It comes with a very nice booklet that includes a story and old band photos. If there ever was such a thing as a perfect album, this would be it! There is nothing more satisfying than the sound of this record. If you’ve never heard of this band or album, think of Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull and you’re almost there. They take music to a whole new level.”

JUDGEMENT OF THE DEAD – Track Listing:

1. Pagan Altar

2. In The Wake Of Armadeus

3. Judgement Of The Dead

4. The Black Mass

5. Night Rider

6. The Dance Of The Banshee

7. Reincarnation

In other news, PAGAN LORD has recently been confirmed for Maryland Death Fest XI, which will take place May 23rd – 26th, 2013 in Baltimore, MD. For for information and updates visit http://www.marylanddeathfest.com.

OBELYSKKH – German Doom Unit Premiere New Track Via The Obelisk

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on September 14, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Elusive German Doom quartet OBELYSKKH have completed their second full-length, White Lightnin’,confirmed for release via the avant-garde-minded riffmongers at Exile On Mainstream Records in North America on October 16th.

Today the aficionados of thunderous riffage at The Obelisk have gladly premiered a brand new track from OBELYSKKH, and not simply because of the obvious name kinship… but because they were the right doomsters for the job. Deafen all in earshot with the fourth track from White Lightnin’, the six-and-a-half minute homage to their previous album, via “Mount Nysa” RIGHT HERE.

Amidst tours and live performances throughout Germany and abroad since their 2008 inception, White Lightnin’ follows-up OBELYSKKH’s long-time-comin’ debut Mount Nysa, which was released in 2011 via now defunct German label Droehnhaus, nearly four years after the band’s formation. Following the immediately incredible response from the Doom/Sludge scene it received, the band decided  against a massive gap until the next album, and over the turn of the year into 2011 set up camp with Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Mr. Bungle, Eyehategod, High On Fire, Melvins, etc.) to capture, mix and master their new work.

The more than hour-long White Lightnin’ is a roaring tour de force of catchy, flowing Sludge/Doom with just the right amount of atmospheric properties to counter its skull-shattering low-end assault, drawing from pure filth through psychedelic soundscapes into postrock and back. The output of OBELYSKKH is crushing but it also breathes some kind of repetitive mantra-like ambition, which clears the air here and there and thus declines total negativity. Diehards of Sleep, Ufomammut, Electric Wizard and labelmates Black Shape of Nexus will unquestionably embrace this outfit’s offerings into their record collections.

White Lightnin’ Track Listing:

1. The Enochian Keys

2. Elegy

3. The White Lightning

4. Mount Nysa

5. Amphetamine Animal

6. Abysmal Desert Cavern

7. Invocation To The Old Ones

SAMOTHRACE “Reverence To Stone” – 2 Songs Of Epic Doom Metal; Unleashes A Massive Atmosphere Of Doom

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on September 4, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SAMOTHRACEReverence To Stone may only feature two songs, however, it’s the length and overall magnitude of Doom Metal that is of Metal importance here. We’re talking about a massive atmosphere of Doom Metal I feel and hear from Reverence To Stone. Released back on July 31st, via 20 Buck Spin, Reverence To Stone has my nomination for epic Metal album of the year.

When We Emerged clocks in at 14:20 and A Horse Of Our Own plays at a mega memorable 20:29. Nearly 35 minutes of 100% Doom saturation. A massive, massive wall of Doom imbued sound. Both guitar and percussive driven, coupled with the unforgiving exclusion to multiple tracks here, are what encourages Samothrace to delve deep into the cavernous depths of Doom awareness.

Doom Metal fans from coast-to-coast and across continents should take note: Samothrace = A DOOM listening experience. You can’t possibly listen to Reverence To Stone two or three times and draw a conclusion. You must listen to these two epic songs several times before realizing that Samothrace cares that their music (and growls) are telling a story; and most importantly, Samothrace brilliantly piece together the parts of music that are essential to the essence (of the totality) of Doom sound. I’m overjoyed by this Samothrace album. Metal be thy name.
