MELVINS Concert Photo Gallery From Bogart’s In Cincinnati – May 15th, 2025

The esteemed Melvins performed at one of my favorite large clubs in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, May 15th. Napalm Death was also a headline act! I took these photos with my iPhone, sitting up in the balcony. My bad knees and legs forbid my wanting to be on the floor and up-close, nowadays. I was accompanied by my Metal Buddy Troy. This was my second time seeing the Melvins, during my Metal life. I was pumped from start to finish!

Buzz Osborne was on top of his game! The legend never slowed down for a second! Entire band and crowd was lit! I didn’t want their set to end; yet it was comforting to know Napalm Death was at the ready! I hope you enjoy some of these photos; it was difficult with the lighting and distance. Regardless, I’m grateful I have these to share with you all. Thank you for stopping by and Metal be thy name!

THE MELVINS Announce Fall U.S. “Stop Your Whining Tour” With Special Guests REDD KROSS

TWO LEGENDARY BANDS UNITE FOR COAST-TO-COAST TREK

LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2025 – The Melvins cap off 2025 with the “Stop Your Whining Tour,” a six-week outing with special guests Redd Kross for a double shot of underground rock royalty.

Known for their crushing riffs, genre-defying experiments, and off-kilter sense of humor, the Melvins continue to defy expectations four decades into their career. The band, currently featuring Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald (also of Redd Kross), and Coady Willis, remains one of the most influential and unpredictable forces in heavy music. Their recently released album, Thunderball (https://themelvins.lnk.to/Thunderball), delivers the “most irresistible, huge-sounding tunes” (Kerrang!) and as AllMusic said, is as “utterly uncompromised and full of swampy vigor” as ever.

Joining them for the full tour are L.A. icons Redd Kross, whose kaleidoscopic blend of punk, retro glam, and garage rock has earned them a cult following since the early ’80s. Redd Kross were recently the subject of both a book (Now You’re One Of Us: The Incredible Story of Redd Kross) and documentary (Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story).

Tickets are on-sale this Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. local time, with an exclusive artist pre-sale beginning Wednesday, May 14 at 10 a.m. local time (code: VENUS). Tickets are available via Ipecac.com/tours.

February 18, 2025, LOS ANGELES – Melvins 1983, the raw and unfiltered incarnation of the legendary band featuring Buzz Osborne and original Melvins drummer, Mike Dillard, return with Thunderball – their first full-length album in four years, out April 18 via Ipecac Recordings.

“Thunderball is the third Melvins 1983 record we’ve made together, and I wanted it to be bombastic – I think we achieved that,” says Osborne. “I also wanted to do something with electronic artists Void Manes and Ni Maîtres for a long time. Both of them are exceptional talents. Their out-of-the-box use of electronics pushed Thunderball beyond my expectations.”

A preview of the five-song, 34-minute album is out now, with today’s release of “Victory of the Pyramids.” Driven by Dillard’s unrelenting cadence, the song opens with an almost deceptively poppy feel before spiraling into the crushing, sludgy depths that have long defined the Melvins’ sound. As Dillard said, it’s “a lovely blend of beautiful noise and gut-busting grooves.” The album was recorded by Toshi Kasai at Sound of Sirens Studios.

Album pre-orders are available now (https://themelvins.lnk.to/Thunderball), with Thunderball available on trio of vinyl variants including an indie exclusive “Smoke Is A Color” variant and an Ipecac webstore-only “Special Mustard Gas.” The collection is also available on CD and all digital formats.

The Napalm Death/Melvins outing is the follow-up to the legendary bands’ 2016 joint outing, dubbed the “Savage Imperial Death March” tour. Both “The Spring Break Tour” and the co-headlining shows with Napalm Death will feature Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald and Coady Willis. Tickets are available now via Ipecac.com/tours.

Napalm Death are credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of crust punk and death metal, using a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdrive bass, high-speed tempos, blast beats, and vocals that consist of incomprehensible growls or high-pitched shrieks.

Their music features extremely short songs, fast tempos, and sociopolitical lyrics. Even after exerting an indelible influence on the entire world of heavy music for nearly 40 years, there is still no band on Earth that sounds like Napalm Death. Not just pioneers, but an enduring benchmark for invention and fearlessness in a heavy and experimental music of all kinds, the Birmingham legends are still hurtling forward at full pelt.

The Melvins are one of modern music’s most influential bands. Having formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, the group – founded by vocalist/guitarist Buzz Osborne, with drummer Dale Crover joining a year later – has been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music, forming a new subgenre all their own. Over their 40-plus-year career, they’ve released more than 30 original albums, numerous live records, and far too many to count singles and rarities.

Recent releases include 2024’s Tarantula Heart, an album that Osborne wrote songs based on a series of improvisational live sessions, the six-song 2022 Bad Mood Rising, and Five Legged Dog (2021), an ambitious 36-track acoustic collection that reimagines their heaviest songs alongside covers of their favorite artists.

THE MELVINS Most Eccentric And Outstanding Album To Date? ‘TARANTULA HEART’ Arrives April 19th Via Ipecac Recordings

MINISTRY’S ROY MAYORGA AND WE ARE THE ASTEROID’S GARY CHESTER CONTRIBUTE TO THE RECORD

———————————

An album so magical, I helped create it without knowing it was happening. It’s definitely the weirdest album I’ve ever been a part of.” – Steven McDonald

PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW: https://themelvins.lnk.to/tarantula

———————————

Feb. 6, 2024, LOS ANGELES – The Melvins latest opus, Tarantula Heart (April 19, Ipecac Recordings), is quite possibly the band’s most unconventional, catchiest and imaginative work yet, continuing a legacy celebrated for its eccentric and extraordinary output.

A preview of the five-song, 39-minute collection arrives with the release of “Working The Ditch” (https://themelvins.lnk.to/wtd), and the accompanying Jesse Nieminen-created video. Nieminen previously directed the band’s short film, “A Walk With Love and Death.”

“The way we approached Tarantula Heart was different than any other Melvins’ album,” explains Buzz Osborne. “I had Dale and Roy Mayorga come in and play along with Steven and I to some riffs, then I took those sessions and figured out what parts would work and wrote new music to fit. This isn’t a studio approach we’ve ever taken. Usually we have the songs written BEFORE we start recording!”

“The majority of Tarantula Heart has dual drum parts,” adds long-time Melvins drummer Dale Crover. “Roy is an amazing drummer. We would discuss what we would do pattern wise, then we’d just go for it. Improvising riffs and trading off on drum fills.”

Tarantula Heart cover, artwork by Mackie Osborne

Tarantula Heart track list:

  1. Pain Equals Funny
  2. Working the Ditch
  3. She’s Got Weird Arms
  4. Allergic to Food
  5. Smiler

In actuality nothing appeared out of thin air. Buzz spent hours and hours with the drum tracks by himself writing songs to what he was hearing drum wise. “When the rest of the band heard these songs I’d created from the sessions, they were blown away,” Buzz shares. “These were fully developed new songs that they’d never heard before that had seemingly appeared out of thin air. Presto!”

Recorded, mixed and co-produced by longtime Melvins’ collaborator Toshi Kasai, the album also features We Are The Asteroid guitar player Gary Chester. Gary and the Melvins’ history goes back to their days on Boner Records, with the guitar player formerly having been a part of the legendary band, Ed Hall.

Tarantula Heart pre-orders (https://themelvins.lnk.to/tarantula) are available now, with the album available on a trio of vinyl variants (black, indie exclusive Silver Streak and Ipecac Recordings’ 25th Anniversary Puke Green), featuring a 12-page booklet, as well as on CD and digitally.

Next month sees the Melvins head overseas, playing in Japan for the first time since 2019 following a stint where they join current labelmates, Mr. Bungle, for a trek across Australia and New Zealand. Buzz and Bungle bass player Trevor Dunn team up later this year for the “King Dunn Tour,” a 45-date excursion that sees the pair play songs from the King Buzzo releases: This Machine Kills Artists and Gift of Sacrifice. The full list of dates can be found via Ipecac.com/tours.

June 5, 2023, LOS ANGELES – The Melvins, continuing their 40thanniversary celebrations, have announced the “Twins of Evil Tour,” a seven-week trek that sees the Los Angeles-by-way-of-Washington band joined by Japanese trio Boris, with both groups performing classic albums in their entirety: Bullhead (Melvins) and Heavy Rocks (Boris).

“40 years as the Melvins!!! What better way to celebrate that unlikely milestone than by setting off on the ‘Twins of Evil Tour’ with our friends, Boris,” Buzz Osborne shares of a set that will see the iconic band perform the beloved Bullhead album in its entirety, as well as additional tracks across their discography. “This will be a stone groove!”

Boris’ Takeshi adds: “Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that Boris and the Melvins would tour the entire USA together? Since the mid-1980s, the Melvins have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years. About The Melvins:

The Melvins are one of modern music’s most influential bands. Having formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, the group founded by singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne (with stalwart drummer Dale Crover joining the following year), has been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music, forming a new subgenre all its own. Over the band’s 40-year history, they’ve released 30-plus original albums, numerous live full-lengths and far too many to count singles and rarities.

In the course of their discography, they’ve partnered with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and Fantômas for individual releases and toured the world many times over. In fact, the band had the misfortune to be in both Christchurch and Tokyo for their 2011 earthquakes. In 2012, the Melvins completed the “51 States in 51 Days” (50 states +DC) tour, which was chronicled in the film “Across The USA in 51 Days.” The current incarnation of the band is Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross/OFF!).

Previous line-ups include a pairing of Osborne and Crover with Big Business band members Jared Warren and Coady Willis, a four-piece featuring the current trio plus Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, as well as Melvins Lite, which partners Osborne and Crover with Mr. Bungle’s Trevor Dunn. Sometimes, if you’re extra lucky, one version of the Melvins will open for the Melvins.

May 31, 2022, LOS ANGELES – The Melvins, who set sail for “The Electric Roach Tour” on June 14, have announced the next wave of dates in what’s proving to be a gargantuan slate of 2022 shows, with “The Five Legged Tour” offering U.S. fans an additional 43 opportunities to take in one of the seminal band’s live performances.

Buzz Osborne says: “Nationwide once again! Nothing like touring the USA in the fall. Everyone’s a winner!”

Not to be confused with the band’s recent acoustic collection of a similar name (Five Legged Dog), the electrified trek kicks off Sept. 5 in San Francisco and wraps up with a special outing at The Halloween Freakout, a one-off, Los Angeles based festival (more details to be announced soon). Tickets for the seven-plus week tour are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time. We Are The Asteroid open on all dates.

MINISTRY, MELVINS And CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – LIVE Music Videos & Photo Gallery From Madison Theater In Covington Kentucky, March 5th, 2022

Ministry Live at Madison Theater in Covington Kentucky – March 5, 2022
Corrosion Of Conformity Live at Madison Theater in Covington Kentucky, March 5, 2022.

Back on March 5th, my good buddy Troy and I took a trek down to Covington Kentucky to see Ministry, Melvins and Corrosion Of Conformity at the historic Madison Theater. It was a stupendous evening of Metal and Hard Rock! We even had very nice Spring weather happening on this night with (gasp) no rain!

On a relevant side note: Back in February, I was diagnosed (by my surgeon) with severe arthritis and some bone-on-bone with my left knee. Yes, it’s extremely painful at times. I now walk with a cane, therefore, the balcony at Madison Theater proved to be not only spacious with comfortable seating it also gave myself and Troy a wide open view of the stage.

Ministry brought their Industrial Metal to Covington Kentucky and word has it there were earth tremors in the area while they were on stage. Okay, I exaggerated a touch. Al Jourgensen was enormous with his vocals and fronted his band as the true legend he is. Ministry had steel fencing around their stage, with a wicked light show. Their backdrop was loaded with changing photos that are relevant to the music; plus past band members that are now (sadly) deceased were commemorated in photos as well. Much respect.

Melvins were simply stunning! Melvins played their eclectic mix of music and I was amazed by their performance! Going in, I was agog thinking about seeing the Melvins. Hard Rock, Sludge, Metal and a slice of alternative was all thrown into the Melvins set. Long drum solos and flat-out jamming was highlighted as well. I wanna see Melvins 500 more times or more. Buzz Osborne for President, please.

I didn’t take a video of the Melvins due to my jaw being on the floor. Seriously though, I was like a kid in a Hot Wheels store watching this renowned band and now I crave having a video moment of them. As a remote tree hermit once told me: “son, there will be times when you just fuck up”. Onwards to the night’s opener Corrosion Of Conformity.

Corrosion Of Conformity were already 2 songs into their set when Troy and I entered Madison Theater. We bought some beers and made our way up to the balcony as quick as two 50 year olds with sore bones could. We both were happy to finally sit our asses down with cold brews while semi head banging to the thunder of COC. To have an opportunity to see these three bands together in one night was yet another Metal dream come true for me. Each band represents a different branch from the Metal family tree; yet each of these three bands were a genuine compliment to each other. Good times. Enormous memories. Metal be thy name. – Stone

A kinda relevant side story: Troy and I went to the White Castle drive-thru in Cincinnati, on the way home. We were hankering for sliders and cold pop after the show. Troy drove and I appreciate his doing so. I had to work the next day; thus I couldn’t go nuts on the beer. Old Metalheads like us (laughing) have learned our lessons the hard way.

LONG LIVE MINISTRY, MELVINS And COC.

DUMB NUMBERS (And) MELVINS Release The “BROKEN PIPE” EP ON April 29 Via Joyful Noise Recordings

Dumb Numbers (and) Melvins

April 1, 2022 – Dumb Numbers and the Melvins join forces for one of the season’s most unusual releases, a three-song single, dubbed the Broken Pipe EP (April 29, Joyful Noise Recordings), which arrives via a sawblade-shaped, limited-edition vinyl 12-inch.

The title track is streaming now (https://lnk.to/BrokenPipe).

The collection, which is not the first time the musicians have partnered together (see their 2015 JNR split series), also finds The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow lending his vocals to the track, “So-Called Solid Objects,” and longtime Melvins’ production partner, Toshi Kasai, remixing the song “Harvel.”

“I’m severely honoured to work with Buzz and Dale on this release,” says Dumb Numbers’ Adam Harding. “I actually wrote one of the songs in 1997 after seeing the Melvins play in my hometown of Geelong, Australia. I never dreamed that 20 years later I would get to record it with them.”

Pre-orders for the 1200-piece, hand-numbered release are available now (https://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/products/broken-pipe-ep), with the EP also available digitally.

THE MELVINS STREAM “TRES CABRONES” VIA PITCHFORK ADVANCE

NEW YEAR’S EVE SHOW WITH MUDHONEY AT GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL IN SAN FRANCISCO

______________________________________________

Oct. 30, 2013 – The Melvins are streaming Tres Cabrones (Nov. 5, Ipecac) in its entirety via Pitchfork (http://pitchfork.com/advance/271-tres-cabrones/).  Pre-orders for the record are available now: http://georiot.co/44Wg.

Tres Cabrones is as close as we’re willing to get to the Melvins 1983 line-up,” explained Osborne, of the 12-song album that reunites him, Dale Crover and original drummer Mike Dillard. “The best part is it’s all new songs. I specifically wrote tunes that would be good for these guys to play and it worked out great. We had no interest in rehashing tunes we wrote 30 years ago and chose instead to simply create NEW songs. It worked out perfectly.”

“Making the Tres Cabrones record was a real treat indeed. It’s a trip down memory lane complete with debauchery and ultra violence, ” said Dillard, who left the band in 1984 only to be replaced by Crover.

“After 30 years we release a record with the (almost) original line-up of the band,” added Crover. “I’ve always felt that drummer Mike Dillard was one of us. It’s great that he’s still a piece of the puzzle!  Plus, I get to see what it’s like being the bass player in the Melvins! Tres Cabrones indeed!”

The Melvins annexed Big Business band members Coady Willis and Jared Warren in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal and the quartet has remained in this incarnation for four additional releases including Everybody Loves Sausages, a covers album released this spring. Not ones to relax, the Melvins introduced Melvins Lite, a version of the band that teams Osborne and Crover with Trevor Dunn (Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle). Melvins Lite released their debut album, Freak Puke, in 2012 and subsequently embarked on a 51 date/51 State (including DC) tour of the United States. The band most recently celebrated their 30th anniversary with a six-week North American tour.

Up next for the band is a short stint in Australia with Helmet, a performance at the Meredith Music Festival on Dec. 13 and a recently announced New Year’s Eve performance with Mudhoney at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Calif.

Melvins - 30th Anniversary Tour - promo flyer - 2013

“EVERYBODY LOVES SAUSAGES” AVAILABLE APRIL 30; ALBUM WITH BUZZ’S COMMENTARY STREAMING VIA SPIN

 ____________________________________

April 23, 2013, LOS ANGELES – The Melvins celebrate their 30th anniversary with an extensive North American tour, kicking off on July 12 in Phoenix, Ariz.

“Has it really only been 30 years?” asked singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne. “Dang!  Thanks to everyone who’s been there for us!  It’s been an exciting trip and I probably should have listened and learned more. I apologize for anything I’ve ever done wrong and for anything I’m going to do wrong… Ha!”

Everybody Loves Sausages, a 13-track covers album including songs by Queen, Roxy Music and Venom, is the next release for the tricenerians. The album features guests Mark Arm, Jello Biafra, JG Thirlwell and Scott Kelly.  Spin is currently streaming the album, with commentary from Buzz, in its entirety (http://www.spin.com/articles/melvins-covers-album-stream-everybody-loves-sausages-buzzo/).

Melvins - Everybody Loves Sausages - promo cover pic!

The Washington-based band formed in 1983 by Montesano High School classmates Osborne, Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard.  The legendary outfit experienced its first line-up shift soon thereafter as Lukin and Dillard left the band with drummer Dale Crover stepping in, leading to one of rock music’s longest running partnerships.  In the intervening years the band, sometimes a trio and sometimes a quartet, has released over twenty studio albums, a dozen live records and innumerable singles and EPs.   In 2012 they embarked on the epic 51 States in 51 days tour and have recently added Melvins Lite, a new incarnation of the band featuring stand-up bassist Trevor Dunn, with the 2012 release of Freak Puke.

The Melvins launch a month-long European tour today in France with both Melvins Lite and the traditional Melvins line-up performing at various dates (full details below).  Other upcoming dates for the band include performances at Maryland Deathfest and Scion Rock Fest as well as trio of dates in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Mar. 13, Torrance, Calif. — Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees, a five-song collection that marks the band’s first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder. The release is available today as a free download via Scion A/V’s website (http://scionav.com/index#!collection/917/The-Melvins—The-Bulls–The-Bees).

A video for “The War on Wisdom,” which features a re-enacted, early incarnation of the Melvins debuts today on Brooklyn Vegan’s website (www.brooklynvegan.com).

The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus. The band blended Punk, Metal, Hard Rock to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including Sludge, Grunge and Doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band’s career. Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band’s constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business’ Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal.

“The Melvins have remained such a consistent presence in heavy music,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion.  “It’s an honor to have them create an original release for Scion A/V.”

Osborne described Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees as “amazing in its noisy calm intensity.” The physical release will be available at Scion Partners retail stores. For more information about the Scion Partner program and to find retail stores, visit www.scionav.com/partners.
