A highly collectable Split-Single, of Thrash icons SODOM and HIRAX, will begin a year of celebrations, to mark the 30th anniversary of one of Germany’s leading independent record labels SPV.

Founded in January 1984, SPV has always been a forerunner when it comes to Heavy Metal. As the distributor of labels such as Metal Blade, Roadrunner, Century Media and Noise and by signing acts in the beginning like Sodom, Axel Rudi Pell, Destruction, Iron Angel, Steeler, Zed Yago, Metal Church and later Official Motörhead, Dio, Saxon, Helloween, Alice Cooper or Whitesnake, to the famous in-house label Steamhammer, SPV proves that it has a ‘truffle nose’ when it comes to finding the best and hottest Metal acts.

In 2014 SPV will celebrate its 30th anniversary with various campaigns and releases… stay tuned for more infos!

The celebrations begin with this limited edition 7″ single. Only 1,000 coloured and numbered vinyl copies will be pressed, which will make this single a highly collectable item for all Thrash Metal maniacs.

The SODOM / HIRAX Split-Single will be released in Germany on January 24th 2014, in Europe January 27th 2014 and in the USA February 4th 2014.

Greek Epic Metal Heroes BATTLEROAR have entered Devasoundz Studio in Athens, Greece to start the recording process for Blood of Legends, the band’s first studio album since 2008’s To Death and Beyond… The album will be produced by Thymios Krikos (INNERWISH) together with the band and is expected to be in April of next year on Cruz del Sur Music.

Blood of Legends is the first BATTLEROAR album to feature SACRED STEEL vocalist Gerrit Mutz, who joined the band last year. It also marks the recording debuts of bassist Stavros Aivaliotis and guitarist Antreas Sotiropoulos, both of whom joined BATTLEROAR’s ranks after the release To Death and Beyond…

The song Poisoned Well, taken from Blood of Legends, appears in the Greek fantasy feature film, The Dragonphoenix Chronicles : Indomitable. The instrumental track has been posted for streaming at this location.

SKR Commander Tim McGrogran had this to say about the band and album:

“They’ve been around since 2003 trying to perfect their Heavy Metal sound. Spain hasn’t exactly been a melting pot for Classic Heavy Metal, so we’re very lucky to find such a great band there. NIGROMANTE are the big fish in the small pond over there. They are from Spain, but they’re absolutely influenced by the N.W.O.B.H.M. and 80’s US Metal. The vocals are more barbaric, very much like Portugal’s IRONSWORD. The guitar tone on this album is so thick and abrasive, which creates a great heavy metal pounding atmosphere. The songs are well crafted and extremely catchy. They have so many influences from ANVIL, MOTORHEAD, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, a tinge of old 80’s Black Metal, and many more.”

Moscow’s STARSOUP will release Bazaar of Wonders, an opus of progressive metal/rock, November 29 on Sublimity Records. The album is now available as a digital release.

In keeping with the band’s moniker, the influences are varied, inclusive of Metallica and Dream Theater to name just a couple, while the music itself blends heavy guitars, atmospheric keys (accented with grand piano), a range of vocal styles and tempos, and even the appearance of flute and saxophone.

Currently a studio-only project, STARSOUP is the creation of vocalist/guitarist/bassist Alexey Markov (SHADOW HOST, DISTANT SUN) who is joined on the album by keyboardist/sampler Andrew Gryaznov (TIMESQUARE) and several guest musicians. The compositional foundation of the album consisted of the four songs – “Angels,” “Cradle of War,” “Bazaar” and “Perfect Loser” – that were written and melodically composed during Markov’s participation in CRIME OF PASSION in which he served as vocalist and Gryaznov keyboardist. That rush of creativity ultimately resulted in eight more songs, including one composed by Lex Plotnikov (MECHANICAL POET). Visit, absorb, and revel in the Bazaar of Wonders!

Those who participated in the recording of Bazaar of Wonders, include: 

Alexander Vetkhov (all drums and percussion). Also to be thanked are Nicholas Angel, Kostya Naumenko, Darya Savchenko (W. Angel’s Conquest, Kiev), Ilya Mamontov (Epidemia), Oleg Mishin (Catharsis), Andrey Nova (Nova Art), Yevgeny Nesterov and Natalya Fedotova. The recording, re-amping, mixing and mastering by Evgeny Vinogradov and DAI Records.

STARSOUP is the heavy metal/progressive rock project of vocalist Alexey Markov. The songs vary stylistically – you may find them somewhat partially resembling Metallica and Disturbed, as well as Dream Theater and Stone Sour. The project’s founding stages took place in Moscow towards the end of 2011, when the first single, “Angels”, was recorded. In essence, the music consists of heavy guitars, atmospheric keys with an accent on the grand piano, varying vocal techniques: encompassing a clear voice in the more melodic ballads, and letting the heavy medium-tempo compositions resound with harsh, even growling vocals sometimes.

BAT was forged in fire when Ryan Waste met Griffin in Austin at a Municipal Waste gig in 2007. Sharing the same musical tastes and metal/punk backgrounds, the two immediately hit it off. Griffin hadn’t performed with DRI since the late eighties and itched to play again. “We eventually spoke of doing a project together,” relays Ryan. “Originally I was going to play all the guitars, bass and vocals and it would be a studio thing. We sat on this idea for years and humored it every time I’d pass through Texas. It seemed too exciting to not make this a real live band so I asked Nick from our current heavy metal band Volture if he wanted on board as a permanent guitarist and it was a done deal. I would have my hands full singing and playing bass as it was.” BAT, which was the original working title before Volture, seemed to suite the style they were going for so it stuck. “Nick and I cooked up a few raw demo songs, I laid down some basic garage band drums and we sent the tracks to Felix. With Felix living in Austin and Nick and I in Richmond, Virginia, it had to be arranged like that to start. Over this last summer Felix flew in town for a week and we banged out those songs with live drums and wrote a couple more on the fly. With only a few practices under our belts we recorded all the music in one day on reel-to-reel analog tape. It was a challenge to not over analyze and nail down all live takes. It was indeed primitive. We wanted a raw sound to begin with and this turned out to be the ultimate way to achieve it.”

Alpine Black/Death conjurors, VALDUR, have confirmed preliminary details of their impending new full-length. Dubbed At War With, the follow-up to the band’s 2010-released Raven Gods Among Us, was recorded at Earhammer Studio with Greg Wilkinson at the helm and is currently being mastered by Michael Z. (Secrets of the Moon, Ascension) at Source Studios and boasts ten psalms of sonic repugnance.

States drummer Matthew bluntly, “I’m not very comfortable trying to put VALDUR’s music into words, but I think that what is important is that we have the luxury of doing what we want, when we want… and in the end, it will be our music and artwork that will do all the talking.”

Brooklyn drone-strewn noise rock threesome, TIDAL ARMS, hurl forth another canticle from their forthcoming new self-titled full-length. Titled “Molasses,” the tune — based on the Great Molasses Flood, a real event where a massive tidal wave of molasses destroyed a large area of Boston’s North End in 1919 — is currently monopolizing the airwaves courtesy of Vice/Noisey. All proceeds raised from the sale of the song will be used to help restore Brooklyn’s Translator Audio and The South Sound rehearsal studios, which were destroyed in Hurricane Sandy last year.

Relays guitarist/vocalist Tom Tierney, “Andrew Schneider from Translator Audio has made some of our favorite records, recorded our first 7″ and mixed [TIDAL ARMS debut] The Sun Exploding, and shares our love for the bizarre story of the Molasses Flood. His studio, Translator Audio and The South Sound rehearsal studios, were tragically destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. They’re starting over, and we’re releasing ‘Molasses’ as a fundraiser for the rebuild. Proceeds from the sale of the song go to Translator Audio and The South Sound.”

Describes Noisey of the track, “‘Molasses’ is like a five course meal of musical genres. At first, the song starts off with an ambient spacey vibe before shifting gears into droney, stoner rock. Then all of a sudden, by the fourth minute, we are knee-deep in doomy sludge metal. Subtle changes maybe, but enough to make it feel less like a song and more like a journey through the Lands of Heavy-Ass Rock.”

BEHEMOTH – ANNOUNCES NEW VIDEO, 12” AND SINGLE OFF “THE SATANIST”

A first new sign of life from Polish Black/Death Metal legends BEHEMOTH comes in form of the song Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel of their upcoming new record The Satanist.

BEHEMOTH – The album was produced by BEHEMOTH, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand in Hertz Studio. The Satanist was mixed by Matt Hyde (SLAYER) and mastered by Ted Jensen (METALLICA, AC/DC) at Sterling Sound. The cover art, which will also be revealed on December 4th, is a painting by renowned Russian painter and occultist, Denis Forkas. For the cover, Nergal’s own blood was included in the paint. Additional artwork was handled by Metastazis and Zbigniew Bielak.

The Grupa 13 produced video for Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel will also be released on December 4th. The teaser for the video can be seen now here:

The limited edition (2,000 copies: 1,000 white and 1,000 black, 180 gram vinyl) 12″ EP of Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel will be released on December 4, 2013 via BEHEMOTH /New Aeon Musick in Europe and will be released as a gatefold, with each copy hand numbered and signed by the band.

The 12″ EP can be pre-ordered via BEHEMOTH’s webstore (white vinyl and black vinyl) and will contain the first single off of The Satanist, plus two non-album tracks: If I Were Cain and a cover from Polish Post-Punk New Wave legendary band SIEKIERA – Ludzie Wschodu. KAYSER – Swedish Metal Band Signs With Listenable Records

Swedish Thrash purists KAYSER have just signed a long-term deal with Listenable Records. KAYSER has just completed work on their Listenable debut, entitled Read Your Enemy. The album is set for release in early 2014. The band is currently working with Sinemax Productions on a video for as-of-yet-unnamed track. More details to come.

KAYSER saw the first ray of light in early June 2004 when Spice (ex Spiritual Beggars), Mattias Svensson (also The Defaced), Bob Ruben (ex The Mushroom River Band) and Fredrik Finnander decided to join forces to create a pure Metal band. The band’s sound is fully immersed in true original Heavy/Thrash Metal genre with emphasis on the muscular songwriting : hammering blistering and catchy riffs one after another, delivering the goods through scorching witty arrangements with fluid virtuosity. Focus always lies on the song, easily identifiable through the supreme vocals by Spice, though the emotional and musical expressions stretch from heavy introvert pounding to pure hate driven ferocity.

“No boundaries and no limits… and that goes for everything,” the members stated initially to set the aim straight. As for comparisons, it might be best described as a mutation of Black Sabbath/Megadeth/Slayer with dips from different good bowls of Classic and Modern Metal. Popular for their incendiary shows, KAYSER enforces the pillars of metal with absolute authority. KAYSER became a much talked about live act among the Metal fans, rampaging cities across Europe with bands like VOLBEAT and more.
