Blasting forth from the guts of Erie, Pennsylvania, a vicious new act is about to invade the Death Metal universe, with the debut full-length from EXTINCTION PROTOCOL, confirmed for release via NYC-based D.I.Y. label P2.

Formed in 2010, EXTINCTION PROTOCOL merges classic Death Metal structures with breakdowns and grooves of modern, guttural slam while infusing the darkness of dissonant black metal into the proverbial cataclysmic blender. A nihilistic Death Metal vortex, EXTINCTION PROTOCOL’s debut album, Aeonic Obliteration lyrically scrutinizes the greed and corruption of mankind thus concluding mankind’s eventual downfall due to genetic testing and world altering events.

Destroy was recorded at Nodferatu’s Lair in May and July 2012 and mixed by Anselmo and Berrigan. The album artwork and concept were designed by “Carcass” John Fossum with graphic and technical assistance by John Deleon.

Robb Chavez of the legendary Robb’s MetalWorks will be making the trip from San Antonio to cover this event. The following statement was issued by the organizers of the fest:

ROYAL THUNDER AT SXSW: Pitchfork, Metal Sucks, Brooklyn Vegan, Relapse & Converse Showcase Performances

BAND JOINS DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN FOR SPRING TOUR

Mar. 7, 2013, Philadelphia – Royal Thunder’s extraordinary momentum continues with the band performing on five of SXSW’s most anticipated heavy music showcases: Pitchfork’s Show No Mercy showcase (Mar. 13 at House of Vans – Mohawk), MetalSucks South by South Death showcase (Mar. 14 at Dirty Dog), Brooklyn Vegan showcase (Mar. 15 @ Emo’s), Converse Thrasher Deathmatch showcase (Mar. 16 @ Scoot Inn) and Mar. 16 on Relapse Records’ Chaos in Tejas showcase at Red 7.

The band, who have been on the road for nearly a year, will join Dillinger Escape Plan this Spring for a six-week tour that kicks off on Apr. 22 in Lancaster, Pa. at The Chameleon Club.  Royal Thunder, who play the House Cafe in DeKalb tomorrow night, wrap up a tour with Ancient Vvisdom this week.

The Atlanta band released their debut album CVI in May 2012.  The release was called a “stunning breakthrough” by Spin,  Revolver called the album “essential” listening and Decibel placed singer Mlny Parsonz on the cover of their inaugural Women In Metal issue.  Royal Thunder closed out 2012 with multiple year-end/best of accolades including the Village Voice (#10 on Top Ten Metal Albums of 2012), Spin (#6 on 20 Best Metal Albums of 2012) and #11 on Revolver’s 20 Best Albums of the year.

Metal Odyssey Celebrates Its 4th Anniversary!

Metal Odyssey – This past Friday (March 1st) marked the 4th Year Anniversary of Metal Odyssey. 4 years of Metal existence for Metal Odyssey! Whoa! Quite honestly, I didn’t even remember that March 1st was the anniversary for Metal Odyssey; not until a little gold trophy icon appeared at the top header bar of my WordPress page! I clicked on it and was pleasantly surprised! Funny stuff.

4 years can be looked upon as a long period of time or just a quick burp during this century. Regardless, it’s been a fun and educational trip, while keeping Metal Odyssey running on all its Metal cylinders! I want to thank every visitor to Metal Odyssey; without site visitors there’s no use in doing this Metal gig! I also thank the PR professionals that send Metal Odyssey the stuff necessary for quality news and album reviews.

The countless musicians and bands covered on Metal Odyssey I cannot thank enough! To the major and independent record labels that sign and promote Metal, a thank you is in order. I’ve lived long enough now to realize that the Metal community is home for me. There’s no place like Metal home. No where on Earth have I found more genuine, kind and… badass brethren! Metal Buddies rule! Here’s to another 4 years of Metal Odyssey and… METAL. BE. THY. NAME.

DRAGONFORCE – After all these years, I’ve come to the conclusion that if Metal wants to mingle and/or partner within the mainstream, the benefit can be that (hopefully) more people will be enticed into our beloved Metal universe.
