ALL HAIL THE YETI – Los Angeles Stoner Metal Act’s Debut LP Nears Release On AFM Records

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal, stoner rock with tags , , , , , , on August 2, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

German Metal juggernaut AFM Records has signed crushing Los Angeles-based Metal quartet ALL HAIL THE YETI, the band’s self-titled debut album now confirmed for North American release on August 28th! Uniting elements of Sludge Metal, Hardcore and groove-laden Hard Rock, ALL HAIL THE YETI unify these influences into their own diverse, modern style which is delivered in a way to make people move.

ALL HAIL THE YETI‘s self-titled debut album captures the act’s most crushing tunes to date, with over a solid hour of energized thunderous riffage. The band has documented the creation of the album as well as the band’s overall whiskey-soaked, fight-fueled, locked-cocked-and-ready-to-rock approach, liberated through a killer new trailer viewable AT THIS LOCATION.

Featuring well-known tattoo artist Connor Garritty of Timeless Tattoos in L.A., ALL HAIL THE YETI have forged their own path through what they see as a desolate Hollywood music scene, the hard-working unit dead-set against burning out like so many bands from the same town and scene have, over the past few decades of heavy music. Coinciding with their 2010-released Trees On Fire With Songs OF Blood EP, the band broke into the local scene with a surge of shows which led them to support slots for major national acts including Times of Grace, Soulfly, Fear Factory, Suicide Silence and more.

With no record deal in place at the time, last year AHTY took it upon themselves to get things moving and entered the studio with producers Tommy Decker and Mike Sarkisyan to record their self-titled, debut LP. Upon its completion, the album received attention from several labels, and after some talks with AFM about the direction and goals of the band, happily took the deal the label offered them for the release of All Hail The Yeti.

Stay tuned for live updates and much more on ALL HAIL THE YETI as they stomp their way into the international scene in the months ahead.

SONS OF TONATIUH – Premiere New Track Via Ad Hoc; New Album “Parade Of Sorrow” Out Now!

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on June 17, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Beckoning The End Tour Starts This Week

Atlanta-based trio SONS OF TONATIUH released their second LP, Parade Of Sorrow, via Hydro-Phonic Records last week, the album booming with nearly forty minutes of new material via ten lumbering sludge-bred numbers. Memorializing its release, today online portal Ad Hoc is hosting a stream of the massive seven-and-a-half minute album closer “Fallout,” AT THIS LOCATION.

The follow-up to their 2010 self-titled LP, Parade Of Sorrow which Creative Loafing fondly compared to “a plague of locusts swarming for the attack,” offers an even filthier, more dirge-ridden Southern-fried SONS OF TONATIUH than ever, making it a must-have for fans of Eyehategod, Buzzov*en, Floor and the like. The album was recorded in Athens, Georgia by Kyle Spence of Harvey Milk and features artwork by Chris Parry.

The band are preparing to launch their thirteen-date Beckoning The End Tour 2012  in support of the new album late this week.

“Their songs may be like sinking in quicksand, but they evoke panicked thrashing rather than resigned, churning misery.” – Exclaim

“…ten tracks of viscous, hard-livin’ Southern doom.” – Ad Hoc

Mar. 13, Torrance, Calif. — Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees, a five-song collection that marks the band’s first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder. The release is available today as a free download via Scion A/V’s website (http://scionav.com/index#!collection/917/The-Melvins—The-Bulls–The-Bees).

A video for “The War on Wisdom,” which features a re-enacted, early incarnation of the Melvins debuts today on Brooklyn Vegan’s website (www.brooklynvegan.com).

The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus. The band blended Punk, Metal, Hard Rock to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including Sludge, Grunge and Doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band’s career. Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band’s constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business’ Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal.

“The Melvins have remained such a consistent presence in heavy music,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion.  “It’s an honor to have them create an original release for Scion A/V.”

Osborne described Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees as “amazing in its noisy calm intensity.” The physical release will be available at Scion Partners retail stores. For more information about the Scion Partner program and to find retail stores, visit www.scionav.com/partners.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27, 2012 – The Melvins unveil the latest twist in their 29-year history with Melvins Lite, an additional incarnation of the band that finds founders Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover partnering with Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk) for a 10-song released titled Freak Puke (June 5, Ipecac Recordings).

“The Melvins have a long history of mixing up our line-ups and I think that’s what has kept us relevant for so long,” explains Osborne. “Consider the Freak Puke record the fifth side of the four-sided Melvins’ triangle.”

Dunn is known as one of Rock and Jazz’s top bass players, performing on both a traditional and upright bass in a wide range of bands and as a freelance musician.  He is currently recording the new Tomahawk album, is a member of Fantômas and was the bassist for Mr. Bungle.

The Melvins will be taping an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly at their Apr. 13 show in Los Angeles. Osborne will join Greg Gutfeld for another chat on June 28 on Fox News’ Red Eye.

Freak Puke was recorded by Toshi Kasai and the Melvins in Los Angeles.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – ‘Corrosion Of Conformity’ – Get Ready Cause This Heady Album Transports The Very Heavy, Very Steady

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal, stoner metal with tags , , , , , , on January 23, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – On February 28th, 2012, the 8th studio album from North Carolina’s legendary Corrosion Of Conformity will be released via Candlelight Records. This self-titled album is 13 songs that are undisputedly heavy and steady from front to back. Woodroe “Woody” Weatherman (guitar), Mike Dean (bass, vocals) and Reed Mullin (drums, vocals) have delivered a thunder stomp of an album that’s speed fueled and one fans have been yearning for since 2005’s In The Arms Of God.

As with 1985’s COC gem, Animosity, this power trio is what makes the album a necessity. Always meshing together brilliantly the sounds of Stoner, Sludge, Crossover Thrash and a slice of Hardcore Punk, COC always was and shall forever remain as an American Heavy Metal achievement to my ears. If America ever needed an answer to Motörhead, then that answer is Corrosion Of Conformity. Wow, I’ve always wanted to write that and it felt great. Metal be thy name.

At the core of this comeback album from COC is pure heavy Rock ‘N Roll in all of it’s non-mainstream glory. The molasses thick guitar riffs that cascade from all 13 songs are just part of the chug-a-chug Heavy Metal party that this trio invites your ears, mind and soul into. The Doom exemplifies this party and reveals the many Metal sides to COC, from Stoner to… Doom. Rat City and Leeches are Punk songs played the heavy COC way and potent high-points on this electrifying album.

The Moneychangers will have any fan of Motörhead realizing why I liken this band as the American equivalent to Lemmy’s gang. Part Punk, part  Stoner on speed drive, this song summons up all the reasons why COC is so interchangeable musically. Each song on COC brings something new to hear, there are no parts where you swear you’ve heard them earlier on. This makes for all the more reason why COC is difficult to stereotype as a band and corner into any specific Metal genre. An achievement unto itself that is for this (gasp) fun band to immerse your ears into.

Returning to that all sacred word – heavy, this is the one constant that COC illuminates with, on an all fantastical level. In an impressive retrospective approach to heaviness, COC never steers away from that sound of pioneering Heavy Metal. The level of relevance still comes across so astounding on this album due to COC playing so damn real. What We Become, with its Heavy Metal attitude and near anthem like power, could be just as memorable and befitting in the mid 80’s as it is in 2012.

Corrosion Of Conformity is both an album and band that administers Heavy Metal with no gimmicks or artificial flavors. I can’t express more openly, just how psyched-out I’ve been about this new COC album. There is nothing for you to ponder in regards to purchasing COC. Buy it, play it LOUD and if this new COC doesn’t serve you right… then you’re a constipated Pop Rock elitist.

HULL – To Be Featured On TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker, Airing Monday, January 16th

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , on January 14, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Brooklyn Sludge Rock ensemble HULL will ring in the New Year with an appearance on The Learning Channel’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker this Monday, January 16, 2012 at 9:00PM EST. The Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker is a TLC series hosted by Buddy Valastro, the star of his own reality series, Cake Boss. The show features contestants participating in challenges that test their baking and decorating skills.

Commented guitarist/vocalist N. Palmirotto: “We received this email from a production manager from the TV show, The Next Great Baker, a Cake Boss spin-off, asking us if we would like to perform on the show. It was during the time that the Big Four were in town, and Megadeth were originally asked to perform for Mauro’s birthday. Mauro Castano is the Cake Boss’ right-hand man and brother-in-law, as he was always a big Metalhead back in the day, but Megadeth couldn’t do it for whatever reason. HULL was mentioned at a board meeting, and low and behold, they contacted us. We showed up in Hoboken on a rainy afternoon to a huge production. They had us set up and perform on top of two box trucks while the contestants displayed their best attempts at metal-themed birthday cakes. It was truly a one of a kind experience, and we are very much looking forward to Episode 8, Headbanging Bakers, on January 16th.”

For more info on the show, point your browser to the official website HERE.

HULL recently unleashed their Beyond The Lightless Sky opus, which continues to earn critical praise from fans and media alike. Released via The End Records, Beyond The Lightless Sky was co-produced by Brett Romnes, mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins, et al).and features guest appearances by vocalist Jarboe, keys/ambiance by Fade Kainer (Batillus/Jarboe/Inswarm ) and cello by Joe Merolla with artwork by Tamara Waite-Santibanez.

SAMOTHRACE: Construction Of Second LP Underway

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , on December 10, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

After nearly four years without a new release, ambidextrous Sludge purveyors SAMOTHRACE were in Soundhouse Studios in their hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) to being the recording of their second LP.

SAMOTHRACE issued the following collective statement about the recording process: “Working on this album at Soundhouse Studios with Brandon Fitzsimmons is amazing. We were fortunate enough to use the Rolls Royce of analog tape machines. The sound of rolling thunder was an inspiration during the whole process. The songs are as soaring and turbulent as the last album, but a bit more mature. We can’t wait for its release and imminent touring to follow.”

The LP will tentatively bear two side-long tracks, “When We Emerged” and “A Horse Of Our Own.” The hymn “When We Emerged” originally appeared on the band’s 2007 demo in a much shorter and raw form, and has here been completely reworked and extended into a new song.

The album — its title still TBA — will be released by mid-2012 via 20 Buck Spin, who also released SAMOTHRACE‘s praised 2008 debut full-length, Life’s Trade. More info on the new album will be available in the coming weeks.

Check out video footage of the band performing some of the new material live this past Summer and more at this location.

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on December 2, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Brooklyn Sludge Rock sensations HULL recently returned from a pillaging month-long tour crumbling stages throughout the U.S. with their sonic wall of triple-guitar led, conceptual enormity. Bassist Sean Bryant Dunn recently posted an extensive tour wrap-up. An excerpt reads:

“First and foremost, The Fucking Wrath are amazing dudes! Wise are they in entering and sustaining the ‘Nite Zoo’ mentality. Ripping through the states with these boys was truly an honor and meeting them again could come no sooner. Sorry that merch dog Shimer had to deal with that crazy shooting in NOLA on Halloween. If only he had worn the Duke that road dog Hollis had donned for his warrior outfit, there would not have been any random violence. The situation would have been resolved quickly and with less innocent casualties.”

Read the full tour report HERE.

In related news, HULL will be playing with Eyehategod this Sunday at Club Europe in Brooklyn, NY. Show starts at 8:00pm. Don’t miss it! Further info available at THIS LOCATION.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Signs To Candlelight Records – Album Planned For Early 2012 Release

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , on November 3, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Candlelight Records proudly announces the worldwide signing of Corrosion Of Conformity. Since early this year, the band – featuring the esteemed Animosity line-up of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin – have been working with long-time producer John Custer. Now nearly complete, their still untitled eighth studio album is planned for release early in the New Year.

Gathering last summer to jam as a trio for the first time in over a decade, the treasured threesome quickly rekindled the magic that originally united and ultimately bound the musicians on a journey that today continues to impress both fans and critics. It is the efforts of this line-up that Decibel Magazine recently called “a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY irrevocably reshaped crossover’s sonic possibilities.” AllMusic.com notes, ”C.O.C. weren’t following any trends. They just incorporated all the things they liked about Thrash, Punk and ’70s Metal originators Black Sabbath into their constantly evolving sound. It secured them artistic and commercial credibility.”

Candlelight’s Steve Beatty says of the signing, “Animosity is one of my favorite records ever. To have C.O.C. on Candlelight with that line-up is simply mouth-watering. I saw the band in London recently and they did not disappoint. This hungry child can’t wait for the record.” Candlelight’s Edward Christie adds, “we are extremely excited to welcome the band to the label and are looking forward to an amazing album. We are all huge fans and this is truly a memorable day for all of us.”

The band shares the excitement the immediate future holds. Woody Weatherman comments, “writing and recording this new record as a three-piece has been a blast. Having Reed back in the fold with Mike and I brings it around full circle. I’m really looking forward to all that lies ahead this upcoming year.”

Reed Mullen adds, “Mike, Woody and I essentially learned how to play music together and cultivated our own style, sound, and unspoken language. Re-bonding with them musically has been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

In addition to intense work on the album, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY has kept busy in 2011 touring throughout the US and abroad. One of the main attractions at this year’s Maryland Death Festival, the band mesmerized a salivating capacity audience. Sean Palmerston, editor for Canada’s online magazine Hellbound, said, “I lapped this set up. It was like the tastiest comfort food after a hard day’s work. I haven’t listened to those classic C.O.C. albums in a long, long time. It put a smile on my face.”

Mike Dean says of the new songs, “we have been overdubbing vocals and guitars in between our live dates for the better part of a year. Now it’s time to mix. The process we started back in April is finally coming to fruition. The results should reflect all eras of the band’s existence filtered through our current reality. This is a beast we can’t wait to set free.”

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States alone, the new album will be their first since 2005’s In The Arms Of God. On release, Billboard Magazine called the album a “riff-fueled set that ranks with (the band’s) best work.”

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY recently performed with Danzig at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. The band’s final performances for 2011 will be alongside Clutch December 27 through 31. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster and venue box offices.

HULL: New Track Premiere Brought To You By The Village Voice

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal with tags , , , , , , , on August 30, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Today long-running New York City weekly newspaper, The Village Voice, is hosting an exclusive stream/download of “Fire Vein,”  the fifth track off HULL‘s upcoming new full-length,  Beyond The Lightless Sky. Set for release on October 11, 2011 via The End Records, the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed Sole Lord debut was co-produced by Brett Romnes and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins, et al).

Check out “Fire Vein,” HERE.

Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn, New York, HULL has yet again emerged with a creation to outlive the ages with latest saga, Beyond The Lightless Sky. Digging further into the past, the Mayan epic takes the listener through a division of two brothers and the struggles that they are faced with. One finds salvation amongst the stars and the wisdom of a stranger, while the other is mesmerized with the bloodthirsty belief of sacrifice and self-mutilation. In silence lies a realm that exists outside the plane of fear.

Commented the Village Voice in an advance review of the record: “Beyond The Lightless Sky, doesn’t stay in one place for too long; instead, it veers between motorcycle-revving D-beat, bog-trawling doom, sinister black metal, Neurosis drum-offs and hypnotic passages that gnash like a venom-dripping cousin to the final Isis album.”
