MARYLAND DEATH FEST IX – Take a look at this lineup of Metal bands! Metal be thy name, there is enough Death Metal firepower at this Maryland Death Fest IX to make any fan of Extreme Metal drool for a month! From May 26th, thru May 29th, 2011, the Maryland Death Fest IX will be letting loose at Club Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland. (See links at bottom of post for more info on Maryland Death Fest IX and Club Sonar).

It’s an incredible Metal feat to corral such an impressive amount of Metal bands together for four days! I can only imagine the logistics involved. Metal as my witness, this vast lineup of bands kicks some serious Metal ass. With Metal Legends the likes of Coroner, Neurosis and Cathedral being on the same bill, the influence meter for younger bands will be exploding! Corrosion Of Conformity brings their diverse Metal history to this Death Fest IX and this lineup gets meatier by the Metal minute. Dutch Death Metal all-stars, Hail of Bullets, will be making a U.S. appearance here as well and they will certainly set forth their old school Death Metal proficiency upon the masses.

The legendary Voivod looks to add some potent Thrash with their progressive extremity. Thrash Metal warriors Nuclear Assault are back! Thrash Metal has their pioneering flag bearers at this Death Fest IX without argument. GHOST has been stirring up quite the Metal buzz the last several months, they should fit right in with this Death Metal party just fine. Their brand of old school, Classic Metal with their identities unknown, will only recruit more fans at this amazing event to the dark and evil gospel according to GHOST!

Masaki Murashita of Hemoptysis – Comments on His Native Japan, Concerning Current Crisis

As the country of Japan has suffered tremendously from the recent earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear reactor problems, we have all been watching in horror and feeling for the people of Japan. Some have been hit on a more personal level, Hemoptysis vocalist/guitarist Masaki Murashita is a native of Japan and has issued the following comment:

“I first want to thank our fans for the overwhelming support they have shown me in the last few days since my home country of Japan was hit by devastating earthquakes and a tsunami. I have been in contact with my family and friends in Japan and they are safe at the moment but not out of harm’s way. This is without a doubt one of the most difficult and tragic times for my country. The Japanese people are strong and resilient but any help you can spare for the people of Japan would be greatly appreciated. CAVALERA CONSPIRACY – The legendary Cavalera brothers, Max and Iggor, are back with Cavalera Conspiracy! Releasing on March 29th, 2011, on RoadRunner Records is the sophomore Metal offering from Cavalera Conspiracy which is titled: Blunt Force Trauma. The special edition CD/DVD version of Blunt Force Trauma contains 14 new songs from Cavalera Conspiracy on CD which includes 3 bonus tracks. The DVD is a full-length concert: Live at Les Eurockeennes Festival, Belfort, France. A standard version of Blunt Force Trauma will also be released on March 29, 2011, containing just 11 new studio tracks, with no bonus tracks or DVD.

About a week or so ago, RoadRunner Records was offering a free mp3 dowload for the song Killing Inside, from Blunt Force Trauma. I’ve been signed up to the RoadRunner Records newsletter for a very long time now, so when I received word that this new Cavalera Conspiracy song was available for free download, well, Stone was all over it! These free mp3’s are available for just a couple of days, so acting fast is key. A Metal kudo’s to RoadRunner Records for always offering a free mp3, from their new releases, on a consistent basis!

Killing Inside has a Groove Metal meets Thrash sound with Max Cavalera letting loose some intense Hardcore/Death fusing with All-Extreme vocals. This song is hell bent on it’s pissed off and maddening lyrics, an all encompassing fictional trip through a psychopath’s demented agenda. I can’t say enough about this band’s rip and tear approach to Metal while listening to this new song… damn incredible musicians they are. Killing Inside pummels it’s way through my brain at 3:28 long and all I can say is: thank you Cavalera Conspiracy, may I please have more sirs?

Metal be thy name, it was a tremendous day when I had learned Max and Iggor had reunited to form Cavalera Conspiracy a few years back. As founding and former members of the highly influential and ultra legendary Sepultura, Max and Iggor Cavalera have continued on exactly where they left off in 1996… making amazing Metal together as brothers. I’ll always consider the Max Cavalera fronted Sepultura as my favorite era of this band.

The debut Cavalera Conspiracy album Inflikted was released back on March 25th, 2008 on RoadRunner Records. Was I ever wishing this to be just the beginning of a long line of Cavalera Conspiracy albums! Now, with Blunt Force Trauma set for release… my Metal wish has started to come true!

The Death/Thrash combination of Cavalera Conspiracy is Metal candy to my ears. When I first listened to Inflikted back in 2008, I thought to myself: there is a God of Metal and his holiness has brought Max and Iggor back together again to make this astoundingly solid album of 100% pure Metal. The Hardcore vibe of fury that resonates from Inflikted slapped me straight in the face then and continues to do so now.

Not to take anything away from Marc Rizzo on lead guitar and Joe Duplantier on bass for this Inflikted album… both of these Metalhead musicians are substantially incredible at their Metal craft. Joe Duplantier is a founding member, guitarist and vocalist for Progressive/Death Tech Metal band – Gojira. Did I mention that “L” word for Joe Duplantier and Gojira? “L” is for legendary.

It’s no Metal secret that Marc Rizzo has played guitar alongside Max Cavalera with Soulfly, a Metal band that has as infectiously diverse a musical history as any band I’ve ever listened to. Max formed Soulfly back in 1997 after his departure from Sepultura. Marc is also a former lead guitarist for the Alt-Metal warriors known as Ill Niño, from 1998 to 2003. The current bass guitarist for Cavalera Conspiracy is Johny Chow, from the Heavy Hittin’ Fireball Ministry. With just two studio albums to their credit, this Cavalera Conspiracy family tree is fantastically impressive.

I am very much anticipating this new Cavalera Conspiracy album… March 29th is marked as a day of Metal on my calendar!

DÅÅTH – Atlanta Georgia’s very own Extreme Metal ambassadors DÅÅTH released their fourth studio album back on October 25th, 2010, via Century Media Records. To say this self titled album from DÅÅTH is Metal at it’s Extreme finest is an understatement. This is a band that has gained more strength and Metal momentum as each studio album of theirs gets released. This cohesive Metal Band mixes up styles that range from Death to Progressive Metal, while never losing a firm grip on the Extreme.

Genocidal Maniac is the opening track from DÅÅTH and I just love the instrumental buildup of this song, every single note about it. I so enjoy listening to the guitars of Emil Werstler and Eyal Levi. Whoa. At around 2:08 into Genocidal Maniac, Sean Z. comes in with his Extreme vocals. Sean Z. makes this song catapult into a higher level of extremity. The feeling I get when I listen to DÅÅTH is one of being frozen into a state of Metal shock. All I can do is listen and let my senses get pummeled into a state of Metal awe.

ADVERSARIAL – This March, Dark Descent Records will release an LP featuring newly recorded Adversarial material along with the original Thralls demo material (released by Blood Harvest in 2008). This LP/CD will be titled Prophetic Plain of Abyssal Revelation and will contain the three Thralls demo tracks in their original recorded state, two unreleased tracks and two cover songs. MACABRE “Grim Scary Tales” – A Bloody Good and Terror Filled Escape of Metal Tales!

MACABRE – WARNING: What you are about to read may just have you buying this album and allowing it to serve you bloody Metal right. Metal be thy name I’ve warned you.

You see, it all started one day last week when I innocently went into my email inbox, to see if anyone cares to communicate with me. Oh, except there was someone out there who did give a damn that Stone needs Metal fed to him, just like a tomato plant needs it’s soil nutrients. Stored away inside this mysterious email, I was fed, from a very cool Metal Buddy, (actually a Metal operative whose identity cannot be revealed)… the brand spanking new… MACABRE album of mp3’s! The album title you query? It’s located up on the header of this post and on the album cover photo. Go look for yourself. Gee Metal whiz.

Now, if this wasn’t Christmas morning and Halloween night all rolled up into one tight little Metal ball for Stone! Upon the realization that I was going to listen to 14 new songs from MACABRE, I bellowed aloud for no one else to hear: “Yes Virginia, Stone is one psyched-out Metal camper today!”. Um, I really don’t know who Virginia is, the name just sounds clever when I shout it. Regardless, onto this new MACABRE album… what’s the title? Grim Scary Tales. Now, don’t forget it for I will be repeating it numerous times in this review. Um, yeah, that came out right, didn’t it? By the way… MACABRE is from Chicago… so if you ever wind up on Jeopardy! this bit of Metal trivia may win you some ca$h.

This is MACABRE’S first album since Murder Metal was released back in 2003. That’s about 8 years ago. Wow, I added that pretty well. (And to think, my old algebra teacher said I sucked at math as he threw the chalk-filled eraser at my Metal head back in ’84). That old algebra teacher was a good aim too, I have the indentations on my temple and forehead to prove it. Crap, I’m getting off-base here… onward to the MACABRE facts and Grim Scary Tales album review! I don’t want my boss (who is me) to get pissed off at my ranting.

You see, MACABRE recorded this new entree of hemoglobin oozing songs during their 25th Anniversary. Longevity = you are doing something right in the Metal world… and MACABRE needs to make no excuses to me for not releasing an album a year, like Bon Jovi does with greatest hits albums. This trio named MACABRE have been extremely grinding it out since 1985 and have undoubtedly earned themselves the tag of being called… bloody legends.

The Gore/Grindcore and Murder Metal that MACABRE serves up is getting better by the album, this extreme trio of Metal musicians have not disappointed me when it comes to: Extremity, Speed, Heaviness, Punkness, Rhyme Schemes, Folk Verses and Entertainment Value. The Black Knight encompasses all the essentials I just listed and the same can be said for all 14 songs. Rhyme schemes? Folk verses? Someone in the back just asked… well, yes, there is rhyming gorelore mixed with a tad of Folk vocal passages in the Extreme Metal of MACABRE. Or, is that galore? I like gorelore a ton of beer kegs better.

Taking a bloody stab at nursery rhymes and giddy sing-a-longs, while incorporating them into Grim Scary Tales is the entertainment value that you will be hard pressed to find among your conventional Metal band of today… or yesterday for that matter. Realistically speaking, or realistically writing that is, no other band can do this type of gig as potently well as this tormented trio can. MACABRE has me slapping my knees and reaching for some ancient Hee Haw VHS tapes while they bang out The Bloody Benders, enticing me into joining in to their spooky sing-a-long. Then, without being warned, Burke and Hare comes at my eardrums with it’s Metal velocity aplenty and grinding gore grooves, all in which makes my Hee get scared out of my freakin’ Haw.

Countess Bathory does not flinch with it’s extreme rhythm, maniacal vocals and bouncing beats that pummel my brain into Metal glee. Or is that Metal submission? Either way, it feels damn gooooood. In all Metal seriousness here folks, that is what the entire gore-grinding, Thrashin’ and Death Metalin’ contents of Grim Scary Tales does to me, it picks me up and throws me against the wall while kicking me straight in the ass. I get up, shake it off, then proceed to listen to Grim Scary Tales once again. Why? MACABRE is one bloody good band of distempered Metal musicians, so bloody good that they are always welcomed inside my fried eardrums and unhinged senses.

If your looking to buy that new album of heavy shit that’s gonna make you grin while fulfilling your extreme Metal side, as it’s pissing off your neighbors and mother-in-law when such album is being played at maximum level… then MACABRE and their Grim Scary Tales is the bloody gore meal-ticket for you. I know it’s mine.

Legendary Philadelphia death metal squadron GOREAPHOBIA are currently putting the finishing touches on their long-anticipated new full-length fittingly titled: Apocalyptic Necromancy. The follow-up to Mortal Repulsion, released in 2009, the 12-track long player was recorded, mixed and mastered by drummer Jim Roe and features new guitarist VJS (Kult ov Azazel, Crimson Moon, Demoncy, etc.).

Comments guitarist Alex Bouks of the band’s latest output: “All of us in the GOREAPHOBIA camp are real excited about finishing the new record. The new tunes will once again contain 1000% occult Metal nihilism! The only way I can describe our new endeavor is that’s it’s very diverse and takes us back to the band’s roots. Jim has once again recorded and mixed the record at his home studio, Neanderthal. Apocalyptic Necromancy also marks the debut of our new guitar player VJS. There’s a highly positive and magical vibe for the band at the present time. For me, this record is a true progression from the song writing and production on Mortal Repulsion.
