TYKETTO – Triumphs With Comeback Album “DIG IN DEEP”

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, heavy metal news, melodic hard rock, melodic rock, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on April 11, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

TYKETTO – While staying relevant in recent time by performing in some of the worlds most notable Heavy Rock Festivals (Sweden Rock Festival, Download, Firefest and Hard Rock Hell to name a few) TYKETTO realized their fans were still out there and a new studio album was in order. Nearly two decades since their last studio album (1995’s ShineDig In Deep will be released on April 20th (Europe) and April 24th (North America) via Frontiers Records.

What’s that I hear? As I stopped writing this review, I peered out my office window to see what all the hoopla was outside. I noticed AOR, Melodic Rock, Hard Rock and Classic Rock fans dancing in the street, with their arms stretched out to the sun-filled sky. Yes, TYKETTO is back baby… and the Melodic Rockin’ ride you’ll hear on Dig In Deep is an exclamation point on this band’s musical career. When any 80’s or 90’s Heavy Rock band wants to make a comeback again, they should be required to listen to Dig In Deep.

Are you looking for that new Hard Rock album that seamlessly flows from one song to the next, while never letting up on the ROCK that makes your soul ROLL? Dig In Deep. Have you been yearning to hear real Hard Rock vocals once again, you know, that are not sugar-coated with the carbon-copy and computer enhanced Modern Hard Rock tones? Hello, Danny Vaughn.

Let’s talk guitar. Hard Rock guitar that’s both melodic and riff-tastic. Did I mention uncontrollably memorable too? Step in, Brooke St. James. Trust me my Hard Rock brethren… TYKETTO is back, baby. Sound the Hard Rock bells of glory, tell your children this story and open the flood gates to AOR & Melodic Hard Rock euphoria, cause TYKETTO has conquered the status quo and kicked the shit out of the Melodic Hard Rock doldrums with Dig In Deep.

Rhythm section? Jimi Kennedy (bass & backing vocals) and Michael Clayton (drums) are the thunderbolt and drumfire, respectively, on this amazingly habit-forming album of melodically driven songs. Hey, I just realized, there is a band out there that does give a shit about creating the complete album of songs still. They call themselves TYKETTO, by the way. Lead single? Screw that. Try this on for size: lead album. It’s called Dig In Deep.

By the time I caught my breath, after God knows how many listen throughs of Dig In Deep I joyously endured, the realization that TYKETTO has written and recorded once again, resulting in these eleven songs, made me feel like I’ve been beamed up to Happyville U.S.A. where the beers are always free and mp3’s don’t exist. A candidate for Comeback Album Of The Year”. Hard Rock as my witness and Metal be thy name.

What’s my favorite song on Dig In Deep? It isn’t This Is How We Say Goodbye. Ballads still suck most of the time in Stone’s world. This ballad doesn’t close out Dig In Deep on a high note. Nonetheless, a finely written song that will probably make someone cry out there. Whaaaaaa! The title track, Faithless and Sound Off are my three choice-cuts on this album of choice cuts… and this new TYKETTO album has (minus that last ballad) thoroughly ROCKED MY ASS OFF.

Excuse me now… as I head out to the street to join in with the hoopla…

Las Vegas’ DEMON LUNG Bring the Doom with Pareidolia EP – Streaming Now Online

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , on April 10, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Las Vegas’ female-fronted Doom quartet DEMON LUNG self-released their debut EP Pareidolia on March 20th and the Metal world is strongly advised to pay strict attention. Physical copies are available for purchase for $5 through http://demonlungband.com/ and digitally for $4 via Bandcamp.

Pareidolia is a 22-minute blend of traditional and epic Doom Metal, rife with horror imagery and lyrics, and influenced by the likes of BLACK SABBATH, CANDLEMASS, and vocalist Shanda Fredrick’s worship of COVEN’s Jinx Dawson. Hex Records is also producing a limited cassette release of Pareidolia this month.

Forming only two short years ago, DEMON LUNG hit the ground running and demoed over 20 songs, choosing four of the best for inclusion on Pareidolia. Playing their first show in March 2011, DEMON LUNG quickly became the top doom act in the Las Vegas scene, sharing the stage with such Doom heavyweights as High on Fire, Jucifer, and Pentagram.

SIX FEET UNDER – Unveil First Single From Forthcoming “Undead” Studio Offering

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

Legendary Death Metal legion SIX FEET UNDER today unveils the first single from forthcoming studio offering, Undead. Slated for North American release on May 22, 2012 through Metal Blade Records, the 12-track recording was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver) and mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy), at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida.

Led by the inimitable Chris Barnes, possessor of one of the most dominant and instantly recognizable voices of the Death Metal genre, Undead offers up an overhauled lineup. Now featuring Barnes alongside new guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson, new bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Kevin Talley, whose history blasting for Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and Chimaira speaks for itself. SIX FEET UNDER 2012 finds the band reinvigorated and churning out some of the most visceral, in-your-face, and downright horrifying tunes in their renowned discography of brutality both lyrically and musically.

Comments vocalist/Death Metal ambassador Chris Barnes of the recording: “I’m in pretty much the best headspace I’ve been in since myself and [former guitarist] Allen West started this band in 1993. I’m super excited about the new record. It’s a rejuvenation; it’s a rebirth of SIX FEET UNDER, and fans will definitely latch on to my excitement and how focused I am in the lyrics I’ve written… The hypocrisies of daily life, things that affect us that spawn aggression, loneliness, sadness, there’s a lot of emotions going on across the record and I guess that the dark horror that humans cause is my niche.”

Gore your ears to the violent sounds of “Formaldehyde” at THIS LOCATION, where you can also view the record’s maniacal Dusty Peterson cover art and pre-order options.

ENTHRALL “Throes Of Fire” – Sophomore Album Showcases The Metal Strengths Of Vocalist/Multi-Instrumentalist Neil Rego

Posted in classic metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, Power Metal, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on April 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

ENTHRALL – Originating from Bangalore, India and eventually being signed by Greece independent label METALFIGHTERS, founding member and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Neil Rego has his solo project ENTHRALL causing quite the buzz within the worldwide Metal underground. The roots of ENTHRALL go back to 1995, when ENTHRALL was initially a unified band. Family commitments and the inability to relocate are the legitimate reasons as to why the remaining original members of ENTHRALL had to step aside.

With guest musicians appearing on his latest (second overall) ENTHRALL album, Neil Rego has given every indication that he is a well-rounded songwriter and lyricist, coupled with his undeniable and admirable proficiency as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. No Metal rock should be left unturned and ENTHRALL is one solid Metal rock worth discovering.

The influences of Classic Metal, Classic Rock, Progressive Rock/Metal and old school Speed Metal are all interwoven into a unique texture of sound on Throes Of Fire, courtesy of Neil’s musical vision. Neil’s clean vocals are married with his brand of Metal in such a smooth way that I cannot help myself liking what I hear, throughout Throes Of Fire. If I had to choose my favorite song, the title track keeps replaying in my mind.

Melodic from beginning to end and most essentially memorable is Throes Of Fire. With no flashy gimmicks of an over-produced product, Neil Rego has compiled these ten songs on this album to sound effectively efficient, in an early 80’s Classic Metal sort of way. Throes Of Fire has grown on me and has left an imprint of uniqueness upon my ears that is so ultimately important.

As a sophomore release from ENTHRALL, Neil Rego has shown that he can act upon his Metal vision and create an album that dominates on the melodic side of the spectrum, while knowing when to let loose the hard and heavy without crossing that fine line of filler territory. I recommend checking out ENTHRALL to any fan of Heavy Metal or even Hard Rock. There is a vast bounty of Metalheads out there, that should find Throes Of Fire to be an album worthy of their time. It’s been worth my Metal time. Metal be thy name.

TOAD – Arizona Metallers Issue Tour Recap; Band Prepares Forthcoming EP

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on April 8, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Arizona Metal militia TOAD has returned to its homeland of Phoenix, after a two-week migration through the Rocky Mountains and across the southern United States. To say TOAD‘s journey was a success would be an understatement. Old friends were revisited, new allies were formed, and TOAD‘s rotten gospel was delivered on a nightly basis to receptive congregations.

Upon their return to the desert, TOAD immediately delved back into the writing process in preparation for the next album. TOAD‘s new music is an expansion and improvement upon the themes prevalent in last year’s Rotten Tide, which continues to reap critical acclaim from critics and fans alike. These latest songs are the results of a more mature, driven, and aggressive band. Once the record is finished, TOAD plans on continuing its Eastern expansion to the Atlantic coast, and beyond. Take Over And Destroy.

In the meantime, check out live footage from the band’s stop in Fayetteville, Arkansas last month at THIS LOCATION.

A maniacal six-piece, TOAD formed in 2008 and has rapidly evolved into a complex entity. TOAD‘s sound is hardly definable but rather a divine amalgamation of and elaboration upon all things heavy within the last four decades of rock music. Though obviously influenced by the Scandinavian Death and Black Metal movements of the 1990s, the band ensures that every song pulsates with the groove established by Metal’s forefathers – bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

With the addition of former Slut Sister and Drone Throne guitarist Alex Bank Rollins, and the replacement of original guitarist Danny Labarbera by former Queen Beast member Nate Garrett, the band has solidified a group that is road-ready and unstoppable in both its creative output and self-promotion. Rounding out the lineup are original members Andy Leemont on vocals, Shane Taylor on drums, Trey Edwin on bass, and Pete Porter on organ. TOAD strive to be at the forefront of the progression of the genre.

Posted in classic metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on April 8, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

CIRITH UNGOL – The 2-CD/Bonus DVD of vintage CIRITH UNGOL, Servants Of Chaos, was released back on January 31st, 2012, via Metal Blade Records in North America. Servants Of Chaos was originally released (exclusively) in Europe, back in 2001. What an amazing package, which salutes this never to be forgotten Metal band from Ventura, California.

CIRITH UNGOL can easily be classified  as a pioneering and influential Metal band from the early 80’s. I highly recommend, to all Metalheads worldwide, these rare and live tracks, along with video footage of CIRITH UNGOL, to sink your Classic Metal craving senses into! Adding this Cirith Ungol 3 disc set to your Metal collection will serve you right.

I just bought Servants Of Chaos recently and it’s worth every penny. f.y.e. was selling it at a sale price for $9.99 (U.S.). That’s a stupendous price for 2 CD’s and 1 DVD!

The name Cirith Ungol is pronounced “kirith ungol” and is an Elvish phrase meaning “pass of the spider.”

Check out below: Cirith Ungol “I’m Alive” (Live) from the album “Servants of Chaos”. Recorded live at Wolf and Rissmiller’s Country Club on November 9th, 1984. Whoa and Metal be thy name.

JOB FOR A COWBOY – ‘Demonocracy’ Album Streaming In Its Entirety At Revolvermag.com

Third “The Leads Are Weak” Video Posted

Metal Alliance Tour 2012 – Remaining Dates

__________________________

Beginning today, Revolver Magazine will host a stream of JOB FOR A COWBOY’s upcoming Demonocracy full-length in its entirety. Produced by Jason Suecof (Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium) at Audiohammer Studios, the intricate, thought-provoking and wholly pulverizing Death Metal opus will see its North American release on April 10, 2012 through Metal Blade Records.

Crowned “an ass-kicking, skull-cracking record,” in a 4/5 review by Alternative Press, the nine-track production tackles a host of political and economic themes including media propaganda, the “war industry” and the staggering debts faced by America. Immerse yourself in the full audio wreckage at THIS LOCATION.

JOB FOR A COWBOY are currently molesting ears across North America on the Metal Alliance Tour. Joined by The Faceless, Dying Fetus, 3 Inches Of Blood, Impending Doom, Wretched, and headliners, Devildriver, the remaining dates are below.

Visit the band’s OFFICIAL METAL BLADE PAGE for Demonocracy pre-order info, limited edition merch bundles and the third in a series of instructional video posts featuring guitar wizard Tony Sannicandro. Dubbed “The Leads Are Weak,” the mini clips offer playing tips and an up-close look at Sannicandro’s astounding skills and technique. In the third installment, Sannicandro performs an exercise called “double dutch.” Sannicandro elaborates: “This is a two-note per string lick that incorporates a slight Dimebag feel and some chromatics. Two notes per string is often neglected by many guitar players, because three notes a string is much easier to get up to speed, but two note patterns are an OG way to put some bluesy flavor in your lick-age.”

Stay tuned for more JOB FOR A COWBOY news including the upcoming video premiere of “Imperium Wolves.”

SAVATAGE ‘Hall Of The Mountain King’ – Stone’s Metal Pick Of The Day

Posted in classic rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on April 6, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SAVATAGE – I once owned Hall Of The Mountain King on vinyl. Years later, the vinyl is gone and I have it on CD. Yes, I prefer the vinyl. That’s besides the Metal point though, for Hall Of The Mountain King is such a classic of Metal classics, listening to it on a hissing cassette would still likely be okay by me.

When this album was released back in 1987, I was introduced to the title track first on MTV’s Headbangers Ball. The music video for this song was pretty cool, epic and entertaining, not the run-of-the-mill Heavy Metal video of the time. I found the title track to be undeniably progressive, compared to the Metal that Savatage was known for. This title track grew on me quickly and I ran out and bought the album… I was psyched.

From the artwork of Gary Smith to ALL ten songs, Hall Of The Mountain King had me hooked. I’ll say it again: a classic of classics. I’ll go as far by stating this album is a “top ten favorite of mine for all time” too. The more I listen to Hall Of The Mountain King, the more I love it. Picking a favorite song on this album is not easy for me. Strange Wings and The Price You Pay are two that get “repeat play” more often by me though.

Check out the classic – Hall Of The Mountain King music video below! Whoa!

The vocals of Jon Oliva on these songs are stuff of Metal legend. This amazing vocalist/musician never had to croon, continuously hit eye-popping high notes or try to sound like anyone else to be etched in my Metal senses so solidly. This is Jon Oliva and I swear he is one of the most underrated vocalists of all time, spanning any Rock or Metal genre. Speaking of the band itself: world-class musicians. Period.

The production of Paul O’Neill is superb and he brought in his vision for a future Savatage, one that none of us would have ever expected in our wildest Metal dreams. I remember the first time I listened to Prelude To Madness and I was awestruck. I thought, what is Savatage doing? This is Electric Light Orchestra gone Heavy Metal! It only made me more psyched out of my Metal mind, in part by being a huge fan of Electric Light Orchestra.

The overall sound, feel and vibe of Hall Of The Mountain King could never be duplicated, in my Metal opinion. If I had to recommend a Savatage album to someone unfamiliar with this band’s legacy, Hall Of The Mountain King would be it. My “Metal Pick Of The Day” or any day for that matter. Metal be thy name.

SOUTHERN LORD – Confirms Ferocious 2012 Summer Package Tour

Posted in hardcore, hardcore punk, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on April 5, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Southern Lord this week confirms a devastating label tour package for this June and July, bringing some of the label’s newest and most promising acts as well as some major players on the eclectic but lethal roster together for a near month-long trek across the face of America.

Organized and booked by Southern Lord founder Greg Anderson, the core acts for the tour include the Ontario-based Hardcore/Rock outfit BURNING LOVE (featuring ex-Cursed vocalist), the dark lords of Swedish crust MARTYRDOD making their debut U.S. appearance, Milwaukee’s Punk/Hardcore crossover outfit ENABLER and Seattle’s powerhouse d-beat/death-infused Hardcore bastards BLACK BREATH.

Special additional performances from POISON IDEA, NOOTHGRUSH, PELICAN, POWERTRIP, WILD/TRIBE, DEAD IN THE DIRT, THE SECRET, ALL PIGS MUST DIE and more will join some of the shows regionally as well.

The final routing is still being plotted and finalized and a fully confirmed itinerary will be publicized in the next two weeks as it all takes shape.

DESALMADO – European Tour Video Documentation Posted, New LP Nears Release

Posted in grindcore, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on April 5, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Following the release of their Hereditas 10″ late last summer, Brazilian Grindcore faction DESALMADO took Europe by storm on a brutal D.I.Y.-style November/December tour. The three-week venture saw the crew taking their crushing South American-style hate-fueled attack through Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, and more, all compiled in a killer new video “documentary.” See the quintet’s beer-swilling, prank-filled, mosh-powered trip through the continent RIGHT HERE.

DESALMADO have also recently completed their sophomore LP, which is now undergoing final preparations for its release early this Summer. The album was produced by Jean Dolabella of Sepultura and mastered by Jamal Ruhe at West West Side. A confirmed release date and full album info will be announced in the weeks ahead. For now ravenous fans can devour DESALMADO‘s Hereditas 10″ which is still streaming in its entirety via HELLBOUND. The EP’s crushing vinyl version can purchased at the Greyhaze Records website.

Next week DESALMADO will share the stage with Impurity, Acheron and Death Metal gods Obituary in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as part of Cogumelo Fest 2012, a one-off as the band formulate their next tour in support of the forthcoming album.

Check out the band’s video for album opener/anthem “Unisonic” at THIS LOCATION. The clip was directed by Häusler in Heidelberg, Germany.

UNISONIC released its debut EP, Ignition earlier this year. After the addition of Hansen to the group’s lineup in early 2011, UNISONIC continued the songwriting process for its debut release, incorporating Kai’s talent for writing great anthemic Rock songs into its existing material. Hardly Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 3, the UNISONICcollective effortlessly fuse the many sides of heavy music they know and love. The band’s music is versatile and takes a broad approach to Heavy Rock without sacrificing the power and strong, catchy melodies that characterized the band members’ previous projects.

UNISONIC:

Michael Kiske – Vocals

Kai Hansen – Guitar

Mandy Meyer – Guitar

Dennis Ward – Bass

Kosta Zafiriou – drums
