KROKUS “Dirty Dynamite” – Is A Hard Rock BLAST You Just Can’t Miss!

KROKUS – What a primo follow-up to 2010’s studio album Hoodoo… and Dirty Dynamite is one Hard Rock blast you just can’t possibly overlook! In recent years, KROKUS have never left the building! From start to finish, Dirty Dynamite is loaded with fist-pumping, knee slapping, beer swilling, good-times Hard Rawk N’ Roll! This is an album I was praying for KROKUS to release, after such an amazing album as Hoodoo.

With Dirty Dynamite, there’s no micro-doubt in my mind that KROKUS is THE GREATEST Rock N’ Roll band to ever call Switzerland home. Hands down. Hard Rockin’ game over. When an album is this potent with psyche-you-out songs, I’m gonna blab all over creation about it and be glad I did! Dirty Dynamite was released back on March 5th of this year, in North America, via The End Records. Every Hard Rock lovin’ maniac out there MUST own Dirty Dynamite!

Guitarist Mandy Meyer returns for this 17th KROKUS studio album and the legendary Freddy Steady is not back on drums. Kosta Zafiriou fills in admirably on drums, by the way. With lineup maneuvering aside, the core of KROKUS is back on Dirty Dynamite and it’s all out-of-sight! Guitar driven, heavy bass and drums all combine with the unmistakable vocals from the legendary Marc Storace. Twelve electrified songs on this album and I’ve got KROKUS fever once again! Nobody get me no damn doctor!

KROKUS does a stupendous job with covering the iconic Beatles timeless classic: Help! If you haven’t heard this cover song yet, trust me, it’s not what you’d expect… KROKUS have absolutely given Help! a heaping dosage of Hard Rock relevance and made it their own. It’s ostrich bump city, all over my face and arms, each time I listen to Help! covered by KROKUS. Sounds crazy? Give it a listen!! Whoa.

KROKUS has proven time and again their prominence in the world of Hard Rock; after so many decades, this legendary band deserves any and all of the accolades that are thrown their way. The vocals of Marc Storace are TOPS and these KROKUS dudes are on the top of their Hard Rockin’ game! Dirty Dynamite is 100% proof and… Metal be thy name.

SOULFLY – REVEAL “SAVAGES” COVER ART; GUEST VOCALISTS COMMENT ON THEIR APPEARANCES!

Legendary Brazilian extreme metallers SOULFLY have revealed the cover art of the band’s forthcoming studio effort, Savages, which is set for release on October 4, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

The artwork was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for SACRED REICH’s legendary Surf Nicaragua cover.

Furthermore, main man and Metal legend, Max Cavalera, commented on the album:

“Recording Savages was an amazing experience for me. I was so excited to work with Terry Date, whom I consider to be one of the best producers of all time. He has done some great records and we have been in contact for awhile since he mixed three SOULFLY albums in the past. He came to see SOULFLY whenever we played in Seattle, and we finally made it work that he would be the producer for Savages. My teammates were awesome. Marc did some crazy guitar noises and we did a ‘Mars Part Two’ at the end of ‘El Comegente’ – it’s very LED ZEPPELIN influenced and Marc kicked some ass on it. I wrote ‘El Comegente’ with Tony Campos. It’s in Portuguese and Spanish and it’s about Vargas – a Venezuelan cannibal from the 80’s. He is the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. Crazy shit! I worked for the first time on a full album with my son, Zyon. Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in preproduction, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record. Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Iggor – it was amazing recording with my son. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. Savages is a celebration of all that.” – Max Cavalera

PALMS – This Supergroup Creates An Everlasting Debut Album

5 METAL Fists Out Of 5!

PALMS – I approached this debut album from PALMS with every intention to be non-bias, due to my very high appreciation towards ISIS and Deftones. Before I heard even a single note from PALMS, I was convinced this album had to be good. I was wrong. This debut album from PALMS is spectacular! My long withdrawal of ISIS on permanent hiatus is now over and Chino Moreno is lead vocalist! Who would ever imagine this? Not me.

Do not panic that there are (only) 6 songs on their debut; there exists 45 minutes and 37 seconds of atmospheric, melodic, captivating, ambient coated Rock meets Hard Rock bliss; with each song to savor for the next century or more! The lyrics fit these songs superbly. Any Rock connoisseur knows these guys don’t have to prove a thing to anyone regarding their talent, still, my God almighty have they pushed the envelope when it comes to expanding on the mood, energy and mystical experience of music.

PALMS is like ISIS meets Pink Floyd meets U2 meets the production savvy of Jeff Lynne and David Gilmour meets… well… PALMS are so keen on making their songs layered with musical surprises that it will take me another 100 listens or more to catch them all. I’ve listened to this PALMS debut so many times this Summer that it will forever be linked to this season by me.

I honestly cannot recommend this album more highly. ISIS and Deftones fans will (I believe) agree. For those on the fence, jump off and experience a diamond-studded musical journey with PALMS. Metal be thy name.

The first moment I caught news of this new ZOMBIEFICATION album’s imminent release, I was psyched-out to the Metal maximum! I’m even more psyched-out, now that I’ve been listening to this new offering of Death Metal from Mexico’s deadliest Metal band.

SATAN – On June 18th, 2013, NWOBHM legends, SATAN, returned with a new studio album: Life Sentence (Listenable Records). This sensational comeback album from SATAN is their first since 1987’s Suspended Sentence. SATAN has become one of the best comeback stories of 2013 and have solidly proved it to me with ALL ten songs on Life Sentence.

Each time I listen to this new SATAN album, I marvel at the quality of the musicianship, vocals and songs. Life Sentence is a complete SATAN package! Lyrically ominous and invitingly dark is this album; with haunting vibes that seems to cast a hypnotic Metal spell on my brain, which to me, makes SATAN so significant within this pioneering and sacred Metal genre that they helped bolster so many years ago.

SATAN delivers their retrospective Metal sound with authority; a sound that numerous newer bands are trying to recreate today. The NWOBHM was and forever will be an era of profound importance in Metal history; SATAN’s Life Sentence is a magnificent reminder of just that. With history aside, this new album from SATAN unleashes an enormous wave of relevancy; accentuating that their Metal sound is indeed timeless.

I can easily label Life Sentence as a guitar-driven album, with guitarists Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins leaving me helpless in numerous momentary lapses of Metal awe. Vocalist Brian Ross sounds excellent, tapping into his melodic and falsetto strengths. Listening to Brian Ross take command of the song is unreal. Graeme English on bass and Sean Taylor on drums are a non-stop force of Metal thunder! Whoa.

Siege Mentality, Cenotaph, Testimony and the title track are just four out of ten kick-ass songs that I could carry on about for another five hundred or more words. My Metal brethren who’ve already gotten into Life Sentence should surely share in my Metal passion I’ve expressed here. For those others in my Metal family who’ve not yet picked up this new SATAN album… you absolutely must!! Life Sentence is without question, one of the finest Metal albums released in 2013. SATAN reigns once again!

Los Angeles, CA – A spectacular collection of rare and unreleased recordings from famed guitarist of Deep Purple, James Gang and the Billy Cobham band, Tommy Bolin will be released on August 13th by Purple Pyramid Records. ‘Whirlwind’, produced by Greg Hampton and Johnnie Bolin, features rare material from Bolin’s jazz-rock band Energy, an epic 26-minute version of “Marching Powder” (here called “Marching Bag”) from his first solo album ‘Teaser’, as well as songs Tommy was preparing for his third solo album before his untimely death in 1976.

Tommy Bolin ‘Whirlwind’ will be released in both a beautiful 8-panel, 2-CD digipak and a 2-LP gatefold vinyl set. SINISTER REALM – The greatest Metal band to ever call Allentown, Pennsylvania home is SINISTER REALM. There, I’ve said it. The greatest Metal band to ever call Pennsylvania home is SINISTER REALM. There, I’ve said that as well. Now… onto the Metal Odyssey album review for SINISTER REALM’s WORLD OF EVIL…

There are many average, good and grand Metal albums that I’ve listened to thus far in 2013. Let’s just forget the bad Metal albums for they take up precious life moments, you know? What category does the 3rd studio album, World Of Evil, from SINISTER REALM fall into? Try: Fantastical. Anyone familiar with SINISTER REALM knows: this band of Metal Defenders will never deliver filler or artificial flavoring to an album with their name on it.

World Of Evil is 100% True Metal and boasts an Epic Metal atmosphere of invade and conquer. The vocals of Alex Kristof (alone) are epic! John Kantner and John Risko on guitars are epic! John Gaffney’s bass takes center stage; reminding me of how the legendary Steve Harris has always made his presence known with his iconic Iron Maiden. John’s bass is absolutely killer on World Of Evil. Chris Metzger on drums (once again) dazzles with his classic Metal style.

World Of Evil has 8 Metal glorious songs; with 4 songs surpassing the 6 minute mark. Each song on World of Evil bestows its prominent mystique and melodically heavy uniqueness. Bell Strikes Fear gives me super Metal powers. Well, that’s what I like to think anyways. CHICAGO, IL (DLSP) – BEAUTY IN THE SUFFERING, the newly launched electro-metal studio project from producer, multi-instrumentalist, programmer, and vocalist Dietrich Thrall (MARAZENE), are officially in mix mode for music the band plans to introduce to fans starting this fall with the release of “THE CRAZIES”.

The band is currently locked away with SKINLAB guitarist PROVO PROVENZANO (RIKETS, EVERYBODY PANIC!) at Pirated Sounds Studio located in Oklahoma City, OK mixing the bands first three songs which will drop this fall. The band will immediately follow-up the digitally released singles by beginning production on a full length debut album with a release date targeted for sometime in 2014.

After spending the majority of 2012 locked away in a personal studio writing, arranging, and programming 40+ songs, producer DIETRICH THRALL began laying the foundation for a new musical manifesto. CHRIS EMERY of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE was immediately recruited and quickly tracked 7 songs in a marathon 15 hour drum session while ANGEL BARTOLOTTA (DOPE, TEAM CYBERGEIST) contributed drums for ‘THE CRAZIES.’

Dietrich (pronounced Dee-Trick) is best known for his co-founding and co-visionary role in the Industrial-Metal band MARAZENE (later called MARAZENE MACHINE) based in Chicago.

From managing the band during its most active and successful national touring years (2006-2008), to co-producing the band’s critically hailed cover of MÖTLEY CRÜE’s “Live Wire” in 2011 as well as the band’s lone official full-length album (“MachiNation”, 2006), to writing fan-favorite tracks such as “Give”, to guiding the band’s philosophical and edgy lyrical approach (“AnTiThesis”, “Infidel Society”), to producing multiple videos for the band, Dietrich’s contributions and influence are heavily noted.

ZOMBIE DEATH STENCH – BAND BIO:

ZOMBIE DEATH STENCH doesn’t fit into any one specific genre of Metal, instead playing what they like to call “Horror Metal.” Mixed within and between their aural assaults are cold analog keyboard sounds that are evocative of Horror and Sci-Fi films of the late 70’s and 80’s. Their music is cold, dark, violent and ugly. There is nothing flashy, nothing pretty and nothing about it is clean. It is Metal in its purest rotting undead form. Nothing is sacred to them…only the undead.

Formed in 2007 and, after many line-up changes, the band has found their sound with the current four core members. With three albums, (Here I Die…Zombified, The Redeadening, The Coming Bloodbath) under their belt, they are weaving their way into the Metal mainstream with much more to come in the future.

WILT – Canadian Black Metal Outfit Announces 2013 Noctis Metalfest Appearance

MERCILESS TERROR – To Release “Vile Extinction” October 7th On Devil’s Clause Records

UK-based thrashers MERCILESS TERROR will release their full-length debut, Vile Extinction, on October 7th via Devil’s Clause Records.

The album comes on the heels of last year’s self-released EP, Eternal Decay, and sees the band overcome a series of obstacles in the form of lineup changes. Earlier this year, Michael Brush (ex-HELLBASTARD) stepped in to take over drum duties and original guitarist David Siddons took his leave and was recently replaced by shredder Luke Tasker.

Frontman Dale Linsdell commented: “‘It has been tough this past year, with new line up changes/touring and recording the album itself, we are glad to finally unleash it upon the world. This will be 11 tracks of pure terror”

Vile Extinction was recorded at Stuck on a Name Studios by co-producer Ian Boult and was mixed and mastered by Neil Williams at Abysmal Audio. The album artwork was handled by legendary artist Jon Zig and the bands logo was revamped by local artist Gary Ronaldson of Bite Radius Designs.

ZUD – Portland, Maine’s Obscure Blackened Jam Horde Drops Debut Album

Dark Descent Records – Holding Showcase Festival This October!

Dark Descent Records, in association with Parasitic Records and Ash St. PDX, have announced a two-day showcase festival taking place on October 4th and 5th at the Ash St. Saloon in Portland, OR.

The line-up, much like the label’s roster, is comprised of some of the best that today’s underground Death Metal scene has to offer. Tickets for the showcase are $13 for Friday’s show, $15 for Saturday’s show and $26 for both and can be purchased at this location:
