HATRIOT – Releasing on February 21st, 2014, via Massacre Records, is the sophomore album from HATRIOT: Dawn Of The New Centurion. Bay Area Thrash legend, Steve “Zetro” Souza, has once again delivered an insanely solid and eye-popping vocal performance! All fans of HATRIOT and Thrash Metal should be psyched out of their skin, once they listen to these 9 songs of true, old school Thrash Metal. Steve has to be extremely damn proud of this follow-up to their kick-ass 2013 debut album: Heroes Of Origin.

The guitar duo, (led by) Kosta V with Miguel Esparza are freaking incredible to lose your brain cells to! Whoa! Both of these axe slingers play in true Bay Area Thrash Metal style, with speed, heaviness, melodic character and plenty of furious interludes. Solid as hell is HATRIOT and they bestow the talent you’d come to expect from Thrash icons such as Anthrax, Testament, Megadeth, Death Angel and Forbidden.

There’s NO filler on this album, just plenty of Thrash greatness. The gang vocals are prevalent throughout, with a Thrash spirited rhythm section of yesteryear. Yes, Steve “Zetro” Souza has proven himself as an ultimate Thrash Metal mentor and his 2 sons in HATRIOT, Cody (bass) and Nick (drums), must surely be grateful! If I must pick my favorite song from this gem, it’s the title track. Dawn Of The New Centurion is a complete Thrash Metal package, with every song a killer! This is an electrifying Thrash Metal album; one that bridges the glory years of the 80’s to our modern-day of Thrash Metal. Hell yes and… Metal be thy name. – Stone

Pantheism: The belief that everything composes an all-encompassing, immanent God, or that the universe (or nature) is identical with divinity. Pantheists thus do not believe in a personal or anthropomorphic god.

The darkness of the soul, esoteric symbology, natural evil, scrutinization of the irregularity of the Gregorian calendar, the meltdown crisis point at which capitalist society presently finds itself, and the possible final gasp of our current ‘material age’, to pave way for a potential revolutionary shift in values-consciousness for a jaded humanity. These are some of the varied concepts with which Coldwar lyrically engage, in their latest anthology, and forth-coming release ‘Pantheist’.

Formed in 1999 in Dublin, Ireland, Coldwar are influenced by underground hardcore punk and extreme metal. Fuelled by a rejection of Church & State institutions and other oppressive, intolerant and absolutist states of mind.

To date, Coldwar have toured Ireland and the UK as well as having made several trips to Europe and the USA. The band have also played a number of festivals including Wacken Open Air (Germany), Obscene Extreme Festival (Czech Republic), Load As Fuck (USA), Day Of Darkness (Ireland), Up the Punks (UK), Cork Winter Fest (Ireland), Burning Oak Festival (Ireland), Subvert Festival (UK) and more.

Coldwar have shared the stage and toured alongside bands such as Fear Factory, Soulfly, Sepultura, EHG, Suffocation, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Discharge, Napalm Death and many more.

With four releases previous since their inception via Underground Movement each release has gained the band a growing fan base.

Camarillo, CA – Alice Cooper fans worldwide rejoice! Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity is releasing Alice Cooper’s classic album ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ on Hybrid SACD on February 4, 2014! As a bonus, along with the meticulously reproduced artwork, enclosed in every CD is the very collectible replicated ‘Billion Dollar Bill’.

With ‘Billion Dollar Babies’, Alice Cooper refined the raw grit of their earlier work in favor of a slightly more polished sound resulting in a mega-hit album that reached the top of the US and UK album charts. It’s impossible to overstate how popular the band had become by the time their sixth album was released. The album, is brilliant, decadent and encapsulated all the celebrity trashiness of the 70’s only three years into the decade.

Song for song, ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ is probably the original Alice Cooper group’s finest and strongest. The album’s singles “Elected”, “Hello Hooray”, “Billion Dollar Babies”,and “No More Mr. Nice Guy” all became hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Also included are a pair of perennial concert standards – the disturbing necrophilia ditty “I Love the Dead” and the chilling macabre of “Sick Things”.

After the album was released, the band embarked on a tour which broke the US box office records previously held by the Rolling Stones. The show climaxed with a guillotine execution of Alice. MARS RED SKY – Signs with Listenable Records

Considered one of the greats of the European stoner rock scene, France’s MARS RED SKY have gained international recognition due to a unique sound, based on thick infectious grooves and melodic aerial guitar riffs. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM – Reveal Details On New Recordings

Following the November release of their BBC Session 2011 Anno Domini two-track live 12″ via Southern Lord, new recordings from WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have been confirmed for a 2014 release. Following several months of anticipation, the Cascadian Black Metal clan comprised of brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver now humbly unveil their impending full-length release, Celestite.

Taking a different approach than their previous LPs, Celestite is a completely newly envisioned, parallel-universe version of Celestial Lineage, the beautifully blackened fourth studio full-length epic WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM released via Southern Lord in 2011. Celestite arises with a whole new, ethereal approach. There are no drums and no vocals. Rather, deep, heavy crystalline synthesizer journeying, Eno-inspired analog processing and arcane acoustic instrumentation expand upon dimensions folded within the universe of Celestial Lineage.

The Weavers tell us: “To make Celestite, we delved into the subterranean sonics that are buried in the mix of Celestial Lineage. We isolated them, processed them and took this unearthed soundscape as our starting point. Upon this base we recorded an entirely new album. Some melodies from Celestial Lineage are recognizable, but these familiar sounds appear as ghosts, barely tethered to the original compositions. This new album is an unorthodox foray; a fully instrumental, experimental companion record to Celestial Lineage. We left some work undone with Celestial Lineage. The recording of that album in the Winter of 2011 was a monumental project for us personally, and the creative fire from those recording sessions was still burning. This recording process was an opportunity to journey into our own inner universe to complete that which needed to be completed.”

Paired once again with producer Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn O))), Master Musicians Of Bukkake), Celestite came to fruition at Avast Studios and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM’s own Olympia-based studio Owl Lodge. While cloistered during the recording sessions they made use of a mammoth arsenal of crumbling vintage equipment including a Serge Modular System, Korg Poly6, Korg MS20, Korg Mono/Poly, Roland Juno 106, Roland Jupiter 6, Roland Super jx10, Jomox Airbase 99, Access Virus and more. The album also features a guest wind ensemble including friends Josiah Boothby on French Horn, Steve Moore (Earth, Sunn O))), Stebmo) on Trombone, and both Mara Winter and Veronica Dye on flute.

The upcoming release of Celestite is doubly exciting for WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM as it will mark another new venture for the duo; the inaugural release on their own new label, Diadem Records. The band states, “Diadem Records is the imprint we created to release Celestite and future albums. Most importantly for us, working on this album has revealed a whole new vein of creative energy for WITTR. Now that the long trip of creating this album is finished, our appetite is whetted for future projects, thus we feel it necessary to pre-empt the inevitable chatter that will accompany the release of this record. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM has not permanently abandoned the guitar and drums! We sense that one day, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, we will be inspired to return to our stacks of amplifiers and cabinets to create new music.”

I LOVE RICH – “Respect The Rich” Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

4 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

I LOVE RICH – It happened a couple of weeks ago. I was minding my own business, while checking out my email inbox. Then I saw it. Rich, the frontman for “I Love Rich” wanted to know if I would like a copy of his band’s new CD to review: Respect The Rich. The CD arrived in the mail some days later. I opened the package and stared at this fun looking CD cover art and thought, as the legendary Mick Jagger would sing: it’s only Rock And Roll (but I like it).

Before this historical email from Rich, I never heard of his band before. Heck, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The last thing I need in my Metal life right now is a group of Rock And Roll troublemakers, from Chicago, messing with me to review their new CD. I felt worry overcome me, slightly. I slapped in and listened to this Respect The Rich CD into my laptop; then eventually into my home stereo. Both results were the same. I LOVE RICH ROCKS!!

One thing is for certain, Rich and his band have received an obvious influence from early 70’s KISS. That’s a very good thing too. Rich actually has a cool resemblance, vocally, to the legendary Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. In my Metal opinion, that is. Respect The Rich have 6 original songs on their new CD, with 2 added alternate versions of (You’re So Hot) I’m Gonna Fuck You With The Lights On. It’s honestly a fascinating song and Rocks so well! A true sing-along Hard Rock song if I’ve ever heard one.

I Love Rich plays their Hard Rock with conviction and there’s no smoke or mirrors about their sound or songs. Hell, Classic Rock and red-blooded Hard Rockers should get a dizzying kick out of this band! I Love Rich is a band that makes me proud to live in the Mid West. Just like my other Mid West, DIY band favorites, I Love Rich are contributing to the Rock And Roll cause in a very splendid way, indeed. ALL of the songs on Respect The Rich flat-out Rock and I would love to see I Love Rich in a live setting. Hell yes, I would.

With a BIG guitar driven sound, impressive vocals and kick-ass musicianship all-around, I Love Rich have delivered to me a memorable CD! You can’t kill blue-collar Rock And Roll and I Love Rich are proof positive of this. Life can be filled with Rockin’ surprises and that’s why I do check my email inbox everyday. A talented and underground Rock And Roll band that’s been paying their dues, going on 2 decades, I cannot resist respecting. I Love Rich and their Midwest Rock And Roll kicks legitimate ass. Metal be thy name. – Stone

LOST SOCIETY, one of the most promising up-and-coming Finnish bands of our time, has released the details to their upcoming album Terror Hungry. “LOST SOCIETY is back, and we’re angrier than ever,” commented guitarist/vocalist Samy Elbanna. “The new album Terror Hungry is a full on thrash album from start to finish, with a darker and even more aggressive feel to it! It has the signature elements that make up LOST SOCIETY and we’ve put in even more groove riffage, more mind blistering guitar shredding, and some of the fastest stuff we’ve ever done on it! Look out, this one’s gonna be faster, louder and we’re more pissed off than ever!”

Terror Hungry was produced by Nino Laurenne (AMORPHIS, ENSIFERUM, LORDI) at the renowned Sonic Pump studios (FINNTROLL, SONATA ARCTICA, OMNIUM GATHERUM). The artwork was created by Jan Meininghaus (BOLT THROWER, SICK OF IT ALL, UDO). “I was asked to do LOST SOCIETY’s new album cover and first of all, I had to face the fact that I had to follow their debut album’s art that was created by the legendary Ed Repka; one of the true heroes of my own thrash metal days. So I decided to go a different way and create the band’s cover idea in a much darker and less cartoony mood than the debut. LOST SOCIETY’s musical style and their approach to metal is very 80’s bay area to me, so I thought it might be fun to paint something that might have been on one of those record covers these days. I listened to LOST SOCIETY and my old EXODUS, TESTAMENT and FORBIDDEN vinyls and it was a blast to come up with Terror Hungry artwork!”

BATTLECROSS – To Hit The Road This March With Protest The Hero

Detroit, Michigan-based metallers BATTLECROSS will be joining Canada’s Protest The Hero as direct support on the band’s spring US tour, set to commence March 1st in Buffalo. Tickets went on sale Friday, January 24th.

Guitarist Tony Asta comments: “BATTLECROSS is very excited to hit the road with Protest The Hero! They seem like a very successful, humble group of guys who don’t take things too seriously yet are serious about the business — a good role model for all modern bands and we can’t wait to get to know them on the road. BATTLECROSS’ latest effort, War Of Will, saw the band on the road as a part of 2013’s Rockstar Mayhem Festival and debuted at #134 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #118 on the Top Current Albums chart, #2 on the Heatseeker chart, #15 on the Current Hard Music chart, #16 on the Hard Music Overall chart, and #32 on the Independent Albums chart. MY CD FIND ALERT! The King Biscuit Flower Hour/Best Of The Best – 25 Years Of Rock

I stopped by my local Buyback$ (used CD/video/gaming) store last weekend, while searching for used Queen CD’s. I didn’t find any Queen; instead I found and bought the King Biscuit Flower Hour/Best Of The Best – 25 Years Of Rock. I couldn’t resist grabbing this CD right away, for I grew up listening to the King Biscuit Flower Hour and have fond memories of listening to the live concerts that this iconic FM radio show sponsored. Heck, the King Biscuit Flower Hour introduced my ears to full-length live concerts, well before I went to a real live concert! Good times.

From 7th grade through my high school years, (1978 – 1984) the King Biscuit Flower Hour introduced to me many, many Classic Rock bands that I still listen to today. From Genesis to Triumph, with America and The Kinks in-between, this CD not only takes me back on memory lane… this CD flat-out Rocks! There are 16 songs, with 16 different Classic Rock bands represented, in all of their live glory! A solid and honest production, a crisp (and often raw) sound creates an honest-to-goodness live feel which overflows from this whiz-bang CD!

Isn’t it funny, how back in the 70’s and into the 80’s the genre of Classic Rock really didn’t exist yet? Now we all group these bands and their songs into Classic Rock. Hilarious. Um, not really. This all really means I’m getting old. Then again, if my memory serves me correct, the songs from the 50’s and 60’s were called The Golden Oldies back in the 80’s. Um, yeah.

I paid $3.99 (U.S.) for this used CD. The record label is none other than: King Biscuit Flower Hour Records. The release year is printed on the actual CD as: 1998. You can buy this CD on Amazon.com; where I’ve seen 3 used copies for sale, ranging in price from $3.46 to $26.25 (U.S.). I absolutely love this CD, with The Kinks Lola, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Call Me The Breeze and Carry On Wayward Son from Kansas being grand highlights for me. The liner notes are fabulous, with 4 color and black & white band pics, a tidy history of this legendary live radio show, plus testimonials.

There is, actually, We Will Rock You by (of course) Queen on this CD, therefore, I did find Queen on this trip to Buyback$ after all. Good times. Metal be thy name. – Stone

DEF LEPPARD “Slang” Deluxe Edition – Releases February 11th, 2014

Def Leppard announce the release of a Deluxe Edition of their 1996 classic album Slang across multiple formats on 11 February.

The Slang reissue will be available in 3 formats: a CD Deluxe Edition and Digital Edition containing the original 11 album tracks re-mastered and original rare bonus tracks made up of demos, alternate versions and mixes with a series of new songs recorded during the time the band was creating Slang. Most of these additional bonus tracks have never been released. A special iTunes Digital Edition will have everything from the Digital Edition, plus a further set of additional bonus tracks. A Double Vinyl Deluxe Edition will also be available and will feature the original album, and its own set of exclusive songs.

The band will release a special Slang Video Collection the same day (February 11th) exclusively on iTunes that will feature videos from singles “Slang,” “Work It Out,” and “All I’ve Ever Wanted.”

Slang was first released in May 1996 and is considered the band’s most underrated album. At the time of its release, the music industry was at the height of the 90s grunge scene and Def Leppard with bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam were dominating the airwaves. Despite this musical shift, Slang charted on the Top Five UK Official Chart and the Top 15 in the US on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart, plus the UK rock magazine Q named the project as one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year.

As a testament to their music transcending through time, Slang was recognized for its musical departure from the band’s signature sound. The collection incorporated new sonic elements that gave the album a slightly darker introspective mood than their previous releases. ARMORY – Confirmed For Warriors Of Metal Fest VII

January 24, 2014 Cincinnati, Ohio – The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization is excited and privileged to announce that Massachusetts-based, Eurocentric Power Metallers ARMORY have chosen the Warriors Of Metal Fest VII to host its first and only Midwest performance in 2014. The band will be appearing in support of their sophomore release, Empyrean Realm, which came out late last year. Much like the band’s 2007 debut, Dawn of Enlightenment, this album was released independently, but this time through the band’s own label, Metavania Music. Warriors of Metal Fest VII will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 27 & 28 at O’Sheckeys LIVE Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio.

Band founder, guitarist and studio drummer Joe Kurland states: “It feels great to finally play a show outside of the Northeast and the timing is perfect to showcase songs from our new album, Empyrean Realms! Warriors of Metal Fest VII will be Armory’s first Metal festival and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of such a premier event.”
