The video clip is loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft stories and was shot in a series of dilapidated buildings around the UK.
Elaborated vocalist Ben Ward of the video: “We made the terrible decision to make the video for ‘Red Tide Rising’ the day after the London Christmas show so it meant we all had to be up bright and early, with very severe hangovers and head down to the New Forest. Luckily it was a bright, sunny day so everyone was in good spirits and the production crew went to work setting up at the location, which was some sort of abandoned army barracks in the middle of nowhere! It could have doubled as the location for Hostel 4!
In the meantime, the band was dragged halfway across Dorset to do a photo shoot whilst being attacked by rampaging horses! When we returned, thankful to be alive, we were ready to go and the recording process was very pleasant and quite a lot of fun! We already knew that the footage of us would be mixed with some animation that we’d acquired the use of so we weren’t required to do anything too ambitious, just repeatedly go over the track imagining we were playing it to 100,000 people at Wembley stadium! Fuelled by tea and biscuits we got the job done and the results look great!”
Check out the making-of video at THIS LOCATION.
A Eulogy For The Damned is ORANGE GOBLIN’s seventh studio album and first for Candlelight Records. The ten-track offering was recorded at The Animal Farm studio in South London, UK, produced and engineered by Jamie Dodd and mastered by two-time Grammy-nominated Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson at Tube Mastering.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – ‘Corrosion Of Conformity’ – Get Ready Cause This Heady Album Transports The Very Heavy, Very Steady
Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, sludge metal, stoner metal with tags coc, corrosion of conformity, heavy metal albums 2012, heavy metal news, metal music, sludge metal, stoner metal on January 23, 2012 by Metal OdysseyCORROSION OF CONFORMITY – On February 28th, 2012, the 8th studio album from North Carolina’s legendary Corrosion Of Conformity will be released via Candlelight Records. This self-titled album is 13 songs that are undisputedly heavy and steady from front to back. Woodroe “Woody” Weatherman (guitar), Mike Dean (bass, vocals) and Reed Mullin (drums, vocals) have delivered a thunder stomp of an album that’s speed fueled and one fans have been yearning for since 2005’s In The Arms Of God.
As with 1985’s COC gem, Animosity, this power trio is what makes the album a necessity. Always meshing together brilliantly the sounds of Stoner, Sludge, Crossover Thrash and a slice of Hardcore Punk, COC always was and shall forever remain as an American Heavy Metal achievement to my ears. If America ever needed an answer to Motörhead, then that answer is Corrosion Of Conformity. Wow, I’ve always wanted to write that and it felt great. Metal be thy name.
At the core of this comeback album from COC is pure heavy Rock ‘N Roll in all of it’s non-mainstream glory. The molasses thick guitar riffs that cascade from all 13 songs are just part of the chug-a-chug Heavy Metal party that this trio invites your ears, mind and soul into. The Doom exemplifies this party and reveals the many Metal sides to COC, from Stoner to… Doom. Rat City and Leeches are Punk songs played the heavy COC way and potent high-points on this electrifying album.
The Moneychangers will have any fan of Motörhead realizing why I liken this band as the American equivalent to Lemmy’s gang. Part Punk, part Stoner on speed drive, this song summons up all the reasons why COC is so interchangeable musically. Each song on COC brings something new to hear, there are no parts where you swear you’ve heard them earlier on. This makes for all the more reason why COC is difficult to stereotype as a band and corner into any specific Metal genre. An achievement unto itself that is for this (gasp) fun band to immerse your ears into.
Returning to that all sacred word – heavy, this is the one constant that COC illuminates with, on an all fantastical level. In an impressive retrospective approach to heaviness, COC never steers away from that sound of pioneering Heavy Metal. The level of relevance still comes across so astounding on this album due to COC playing so damn real. What We Become, with its Heavy Metal attitude and near anthem like power, could be just as memorable and befitting in the mid 80’s as it is in 2012.
Corrosion Of Conformity is both an album and band that administers Heavy Metal with no gimmicks or artificial flavors. I can’t express more openly, just how psyched-out I’ve been about this new COC album. There is nothing for you to ponder in regards to purchasing COC. Buy it, play it LOUD and if this new COC doesn’t serve you right… then you’re a constipated Pop Rock elitist.

ORANGE GOBLIN – ‘A Eulogy For The Damned’: This Album Is Mandatory Metal, My Metal Brethren
Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, stoner metal with tags a eulogy for the damned, heavy metal albums 2012, heavy metal news, metal music, orange goblin, rock music news, stoner metal on December 24, 2011 by Metal OdysseyORANGE GOBLIN – They’re back. Orange Goblin. On February 14, 2012, the seventh studio album from one of Britain’s finest Metal bands of the 20th and 21st Centuries will be released on Candlelight Records. Their new album A Eulogy For The Damned is such an amazing listen from front to back, that I’ve had to throw cold water on my face to make certain I’m not imagining it all. Seriously. From the album’s rip-it-up opener of Red Tide Rising, to the closer A Eulogy To The Damned, there is absolutely not one boring micro-second to hear on this album.
Is this new Orange Goblin album perfect? Damn it’s near close to Metal perfection as you can get. I cannot get enough of what I’m hearing on A Eulogy For The Damned. Orange Goblin reveals their inner linings of Stoner meets Classic Hard Rock vibes, courtesy of countless riffs and guitar parts, with bass and drums resonating all great things about exhilarating rhythm and grooves… and this is still Metal. Orange Goblin takes their Metal sound to a heightened level of awe, on such tracks as Stand For Something and Save Me From Myself, with a combination of retrospective Rockin’ thunder and unbridled Hard and Heavy relevance.
A Eulogy For The Damned epitomizes just how a Metal album can come across and sound, when a band doesn’t over-indulge in their own creativity or skills. This is a Metal album, only it’s Metal that doesn’t trip over its own feet. Even repetition on the closing track A Eulogy To The Damned is music genius within this song’s structure. I honestly found myself disappointed that this album has ten songs. Then again, these ten songs make the listening experience so befittingly special. Maybe other bands can learn a lesson here from Orange Goblin and keep their filler tracks where they belong… in a box labeled “work in progress”.
The vocals of Ben Ward and total musicianship of this band roars with authority, as an undeniable sound and feel of keeping it real is a non-stop listening experience on this album. If it’s your goal to buy amazing Metal in 2012, you can kick-start this goal into reality by buying A Eulogy For The Damned. Of course Orange Goblin fans and Metal fans will dive right into this new album, yet Stoner, Hard Rock and even Classic Rock fans are certain to find numerous slices of A Eulogy For The Damned quite damn appealing.

Joe Hoare – guitar

STINKING LIZAVETA: Eclectic Philadelphia Trio Sign To Exile On Mainstream

LIZAVETA
Infamous Philly Avant/Agro Rock trio STINKING LIZAVETA have proudly joined forces with Germany’s Exile On Mainstream Records for the release of their forthcoming seventh full-length album. STINKING LIZAVETA’s near legendary cult status and blend of improvisational and otherworldly post-jazz/rock/freakout style now hitching to the exceptionally diverse purveyance of all forms of Rock that Exile On Mainstream’s roster already bears, is an ideal alliance and both sides are extremely excited about the signing.
Stated Exile On Mainstream owner Andreas Kohl on the signing: “I am thrilled and very enthusiastic about the Stinking ship steering into our harbor! This band has always been one of my all-time favorites since I started working for and with them for the first time approximately 100 years ago as PR dude when III came out. Now they are signed to this label and I’m one step closer to personal heaven. There isn’t many more on this stairway. I am happy. Just über-fucking happy. Welcome STINKING LIZAVETA!”
The new album from STINKING LIZAVETA will be released in the fall of 2012. More information on the album will be released over the coming weeks. This week the band launched a Kickstarter page to raise funds to help get this album off the ground. The page will remain active until mid-December; check it out now RIGHT HERE.
Since 1994 the name STINKING LIZAVETA has made its way well beyond the crusty punk and indie clubs in the band’s West Philadelphia stomping grounds where they first tore into the music scene. The trio’s instrumental, organic fusion of post-jazz, progressive rock, punk, world music, sludge and whatever else you might care to attach to their plainly distinctive resonance has become a cult phenomenon to fans of all forms of interesting heavy music the world over. Having released six full-lengths albums to date — several self-released and the others released by Tolotta, At A Loss — in addition to a plethora of EP’s, demos, compilation appearances.
While STINKING LIZAVETA’s recordings are fascinating on their own, the band is even well known for their brilliant, energetic live shows. The trio’s explosive energy is guaranteed to hit you like an electrified avalanche every time, in front of an audience of 12 or 1200, propelled through a modest setup, comprised of a drum kit, electric guitar and upright electric bass. They have toured relentlessly throughout North America, Europe and beyond over the past seventeen years alongside eclectic rock acts of all kinds along with some of the biggest and most respected names in the rock, stoner and sludge scenes including Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, The Rollins Band, Fugazi, Zeni Geva, Today Is The Day, Weedeater, The Hidden Hand, Don Vito, The Antikaroshi, End of Level Boss, Beehoover and more. Watch for them to take to the road again throughout the coming year as they create their forthcoming seventh opus.
STINKING LIZAVETA is:
Cheshire Agusta – drums
Yanni Papadopoulos – guitar
Alexi Papadopoulos – upright electric bass

The folks at Germany’s Avant-Rock source Exile On Mainstream Records are thrilled to report that the final master for Heavy Kingdom, the anticipated collaborative album by WINO and CONNY OCHS has arrived at label headquarters, and the final details on the album’s release are being finalized.
The legacy of Scott “Wino” Weinrich in the world of heavy music is indisputable and ever evolving, and here he teams up with Conny Ochs, a songwriter so pure and honest in his output that he seems to be the perfect partner for the straightforward Weinrich. The two met for the first time in 2010 when Conny was supporting Wino on his acoustic solo tour promoting his acclaimed solo album, Adrift.
Through music they discovered a very similar approach to life and art, and a shared wisdom in creating music. It really seemed like two souls becoming one after they got to know each other. Together the two wrote, performed and recorded an incredible set of soulful tunes that speak for themselves, as well as a Townes Van Zandt cover. The artwork contains drawings by both Weinrich and Ochs, and follows the dedicated and deeply personal approach of the whole album. View the cover art for Heavy Kingdom here.
Heavy Kingdom Track Listing:
Somewhere Nowhere
Heavy Kingdom

Vultures By The Vines

Heavy Kingdom will be released throughout Europe on January 27th, 2012 and in North America sometime in March, a final release date to be confirmed in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for tracks from the record to be released in the near future, as well as the details on a month-long European tour being finalized for March and April.

They’re Metal. They’re Stoner Metal. They’re a bit traditional with their Metal style. They’re underground… and they’re undisputedly on fire! SPEEDPIG is a ‘two man Stoner Metal tour-de-force’ as they call themselves on their website. Gaz and Mungo are their names. Bridgend, South Wales is where this diy Stoner Metal duo calls home and they are looking to invade all shores with their terrificly memorable EP aptly titled: Hog Roast In Hell. Yes, these two lads from the other side of the Atlantic can play some Metal and it sounds like they have a monumental ton of fun with it along the way.
Having SPEEDPIG cross my Metal path is reassuring in a way, that not all bands these days are trying to make a statement as to how clever they really are with “concept albums” or (enough already) deeply enriched themes taken from “reality”. Instead, Gaz and Mungo have created some Metal that you can crank the hell up after you’ve just called in sick and ordered pizza for breakfast. This is Metal you can crank up in the open field with a bonfire and keg of beers aplenty.
You don’t need a Berkley School of Music degree to understand that Metal needs to return to the days when songs were memorable and not boastfully epic length. Making songs that inevitably will have Metalheads playing loud should be the rule and not the exception. SPEEDPIG gets this. I advice my fellow Metalheads to play Hog Roast In Hell very loud, um, Metal be thy name.
This SPEEDPIG EP keeps a constant fired up tempo, while delivering a vibe & soul that is old school denim and leather. Hog Roast In Hell is all about the riff baby… and plenty of impressive shredding abounds too. The vocals of Gaz are a refreshing experience, one that reminds me of maybe how the late and legendary Bon Scott would sound if he decided to go hell-bent for leather on some smokin’ Stoner Metal.
I’ve enjoyed what SPEEDPIG has delivered with Hog Roast In Hell and look forward to their future Metal output. SPEEDPIG qualifies as a candidate for not only Stoner Metal fans to get into, Traditional Metal and Metal fans should find this talented duo just as bad-ass too. Get into the pig now, so you can tell all your friends down the Metal road that you were there when this Hog Roast In Hell started burning up!

Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Scott “Wino” Weinrich is one of those select few. An underground Heavy Music, Stoner and Doom Metal icon for decades, (The Obsessed, St. Vitus, Spirit Caravan), Wino is on a mission to spread his musical message among both lifelong fans and throngs of new disciples in 2011. Wino’s newest project and debut/self-titled album – Premonition 13, is being released today, July 26th, on Volcom Entertainment.
There are scores of new album releases each week, only there are few creme’ de la creme’s such as Premonition 13 to choose from. Don’t pass up a golden Metal opportunity, to purchase a Heavy Music album of substance, such as Premonition 13. You must hear Wino, a living legend of Heavy Rock Music, a pioneer of Doom Metal, performing at one of his finest hours yet.
Let your ears absorb such molasses heavy tracks as Modern Man and Peyote Road and then become aware, of how a project as Premonition 13 will one day be deemed a classic. Each song on Premonition 13 carries it’s own weight in Heavy Music integrity. Could any less be expected from an album that Wino touches? This is an album that’s absolute in it’s credible message of: strong songwriting combined with an all encompassing heaviness can both inspire and blow your mind away. Premonition 13 is an album that will surely compete mightily, for it’s rightful place on Metal Odyssey’s Best Of lists for 2011.
* Background info on Premonition 13: Wino pairs up with an old friend from The Obsessed days – Jim Karow. The two bonded over jam sessions and discussions on Mesoamerican culture and magnetism. Speaking of magnets, this album makes heavy use of the E-Bow (a handheld guitar effect that uses an electromagnet field to sustain notes).

About SLEEP:
SLEEP split in 1997 after two hugely influential albums. Members went on to form OM and High On Fire. Original members Al Cisneros and Matt Pike were joined by drummer Jason Roeder of Neurosis last Fall for a short stint of reunion dates that floored their earliest fans and converted new ones.
The band debuted with 1991’s Volume One album, recorded for San Francisco label Tupelo. Earache Records received the band’s next recordings in the mail as a demo. The label — impressed by SLEEP‘s single-mindedness and unique vision — immediately signed the band and released the tape exactly as it was received. Record stores worldwide have stocked SLEEP’s Holy Mountain from November 1992 to this day.
The band then signed to London Records. Their debut album for the major took the form of one mammoth 63-minute leviathan of a track entitled “Jerusalem.” They resisted the label’s attempts at radio edits and bringing in their own engineer to remix the album in view of “marketability.” London balked at the prospect of promoting what probably still is the most extreme music ever recorded for a major label, consequentially shelving the record and dropping the band.
In addition, SLEEP‘s music has been featured in films by Harmony Korine and Jim Jarmusch.

Legendary alternative Metal band HELMET will perform their 1992 platinum-selling release of Meantime in its entirety. The Interscope Records release gave the band mainstream attention with songs like Unsung and In The Meantime. With the band’s renewed success after getting back together in 2004, this tour will be one of the most anticipated of 2011.
One of the most highly influential Doom Metal bands in America, SAINT VITUS are regarded as one of the first bands of the genre starting out as early as the 1970s. The band featuring Scott Wino Weinrich, bassist Mark Adams, guitarist Dave Chandler and drummer Henry Vasquez have influenced so many bands in Doom and Metal . “Saint Vitus is more than ready to infect The Metalliance Tour! We’ve been wanting to do something like this for some time now…so prepare for destruction!!” says lead guitarist Dave Chandler. The band has done a handful of shows and some European Festivals but this will be their first full US tour in over a decade.
CROWBAR front man Kirk Windstein concludes, Wow! This tour is gonna rule! I’ve loved Helmet since the beginning and loved St. Vitus even longer. With the new Crowbar record having hit the streets by then, look out! This bill will bring just what we need to crush each city with an avalanche of stylistic thunder!
Blue Aside “The Orange Tree” – EP Rooted With Doom And Sci-Fi Psychedelia, Leaves A Lasting Metal Impression
Posted in doom metal, extreme music, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, progressive metal, psychedelic metal, rock music, rock music news, stoner metal with tags blue aside, doom metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, progressive metal, psychedelic metal, rock music news, the orange tree album review on January 4, 2011 by Metal OdysseyBLUE ASIDE – This Underground Doom Metal power trio from Boston, Massachusetts, that call themselves Blue Aside are not bashful on laying down some potent, Earth rattling psychedelia. Blue Aside is one heavy band, as heavy and thick as an unopened can of Castrol motor oil from 1966. (Man, that sounded hoochie, yet my point has been made). This five song debut EP, The Orange Tree, was released on Hydro-Phonic Records in the Fall of 2010. If a band of any heavy genre wants to make an instant impression on me with a debut EP, then Blue Aside has without a doubt succeeded.
The Traveler of Time and Space begins with a synthetic intro that makes me feel like I’m helplessly floating in outer space without a cell phone or I’m being chased by Zombies that can’t run… take your pick. The riff is king here and it leads me down the path to all things spectacular about Psychedelic Doom Metal, bringing me to the realization that Iron Butterfly is indeed an influential band in 2010. The retrospective nature of Blue Aside is not a dominant force, however. They integrate such imagination into their sound, that it makes for a simultaneous vibe that is both now and futuristic.
The vocals change off from being dark and downright evil to semi-harmonious with echos. One well schooled Rockaholic can easily point the progressive finger, with certainty, at Blue Aside. Stoner Metal fans that are looking for songs that are not 15 minutes long can easily fall victim to what Blue Aside is banging out on The Orange Tree. Picture The Mars Volta deciding they want to get down on some Doom Metal and make their music more eye popping heavy, while maintaining a non-mainstream grip on avant-garde, minus any stretching vocals and this is Blue Aside. Adam Abrams (guitar), Matt Neto (drums) and Joe Twomey (bass) can play, making me feel as if this is their third or fourth album after ten years of touring. As anti-commercial as a five song EP can ever be, The Orange Tree never slips into passages of mainstream cow-towing.
Comparisons aside, this trio is hitting the bulls-eye on being unique. Each song has it’s own flavor, with Orange Eyes being a more guitar oriented song, with it’s melodic leads and slow motion Punk like vocals. Otis’ Sun is much more Doom laden with it’s riffs and vocals and marches on with a more apocalyptic feel, never compromising on it’s melancholic mood. Black Rays has a strong emphasis on drums, with a guitar driven attack that keeps the tempo on high, being the one song on The Orange Tree that can be described as groove laden. Black Rays is my favorite song on this EP, I always fall over for the grooves… man, I dig that stuff.
The Inevitable Journey is a journey into one damn cool, hard and heavy tunnel of sound. The Tony Iommi inspired riffs are infectious, with the Doom infested tempo making this song worthy of repeated listens. Alright, this is my second favorite song on The Orange Tree and it proved to be extremely memorable for me after the very first listen. I could carry on more about this song, adding, that it’s muscular Old School-Stoner vibe meets present day Doom sound, is very close to Metal exhilaration.
Doom. Psychedelic. Stoner. Progressive. At the end of my Metal day, this is one very good, up and coming Metal band period. Smart musicianship coupled with smart lyrics that I hear on The Orange Tree, will take Blue Aside a long way down the Metal road. Fans of the heavy genres mentioned in this review should be able to wrap their ears around the sound that Blue Aside has created on The Orange Tree. Blue Aside has made a lasting Metal impression on me. I’ll be looking forward to Blue Aside releasing a full-length in the future… a band with this much talent, is going to be around for quite some Metal time.
