Richmond (VA) – Richmond, VA Dark/Atmospheric Metal group AFFASIA will release debut EP Adrift in Remorse February 23 on Transcending Records. Fusing elements from their diverse influences, AFFASIA play guitar-driven dark, melodic metal with elements of Doom, Death, Darkwave, Shoegaze, atmospheric, and even classical music.
In addition to playing drums on the forthcoming album, Tony Petrocelly of In Trapan Studios (Guitarist/songwriter/producer of Construct of Lethe, guitarist of Grethor and drummer of Lord) recorded, mixed and mastered Adrift In Remorse.
AFFASIA was created as a collaboration between founders Jason Jennings (Guitarist/Composer) and David Waltenbaugh (Guitarist/Composer/Producer in 2012. In 2013 the duo started searching for other members to complete the lineup. Noah Cabitto (Vocalist/Writer/Composer) joined and assisted with writing, lyrics and naming the project. Joshua Sheffield (Percussionist/Writer) joined shortly along with Nick Lucente (Bass Guitar) .
David and Nick resigned as active members in late 2014, although their contributions in writing the material had a big impact. In early 2015 Noah Jones (Bass) and Michael Potts (Guitar) were live members. In early summer of 2015 William Carter (Bass guitarist, formerly of Withersoul and Cremains) joined as bassist and Jaden Deesvanburick (Guitarist) joined resolidifying the lineup.
William and Jaden parted with AFFASIA in late 2016. Nick Lucente rejoined in early 2017. Unfortunately once AFFASIA had restarted recording in earnest Joshua had to respectfully resign as the full-time drummer. He was always the band’s guiding light and positively a sheer creative force that the group was proud to have and hope to work with again.

Avant doom collective EYE OF NIX will play this year’s edition of Northwest Terror Fest alongside Witch Mountain, Woman Is The Earth, Falls Of Rauros, and Ragana. The band will be performing tunes from their Black Somnia full-length, issued late last year via newly launched Scry Recordings. EYE OF NIX will also play a special record release show February 2nd with additional live rituals in the plotting stages.
Captured by renowned producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Om, Pallbearer) at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon and mastered by Brad Boatwright (Gatecreeper, Necrot), Black Somnia centers itself on themes of fear, control, and anxiety while shape-shifting through a lens of blackened psychedelia and doom. Commented vocalist Joy Von Spain, “For me, the album is an exploration of the forces of fear and control, responses to these insidious, unseen powers, the specter that remains when we awaken from mysterious and frightening dreams. Billy Anderson worked with us on ideas to preserve the noisier elements of our sound and create layers of atmosphere surrounding the voice.”
Black Somnia is available digitally and in a full color gatefold LP presentation with 180-gram black vinyl, limited to 250 copies at the EYE OF NIX Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION where the record can also be streamed in full.
EYE OF NIX:
2/02/2018 Highline – Seattle, WA
5/31/2018 Northwest Terror Fest @ Barboza – Seattle, WA
EYE OF NIX first began to create abrasive yet kaleidoscopic sounds in 2012. Current members — vocalist Joy Von Spain, guitarist Nicholas Martinez, bassist Zach Wise (Hissing), noise artist Masaaki Masao, and drummer Luke Laplante — strive to conjure music that’s threatening, beautiful, and harsh. EYE OF NIX toured the West Coast with noise veterans Blue Sabbath Black Cheer in 2013, then chose an expanded route including the Rockies and Southwest in 2015. Since their inception, EYE OF NIX has shared the stage with diverse notable acts such as Voivod, Jarboe, SubRosa, Sea Of Bones, King Dude, Lesbian, Worm Ouroboros, Eight Bells, Tengger Cavalry, and more.
Moros, their first LP, was released in 2015 via Eugene-based imprint Belief Mower (Muscle And Marrow, Hungers). The album was captured by the hands of accomplished Seattle-based engineer Brandon Fitzsimons (Bell Witch, Anhedonist) at Airport Grocery in Seattle and mastered by Justin Weis at Trakworx in San Francisco. The record was reissued digitally with two bonus studio tracks: “Blood In The Fire” and “Rome Burned.”

Dark Melodic Metallers DEATHWHITE have announced the upcoming release of the Ethereal EP on July 1. Ethereal is the band’s first full sonic representation, recorded in the spring of 2014 with producer/engineer Matt Very at Very Tight Studios. An additional song, A Burden to Carry is also included, having been recorded in the fall of 2013 during a separate studio session.
Formed in 2012 from several holdovers of well-established extreme metal bands, DEATHWHITE was created as means to explore new avenues for its members. In turn, the band’s sound is heavily influenced by KATATONIA, mid-90’s PARADISE LOST, ALCEST, and early ANATHEMA, creating a dark, melodic metal landscape without boundaries. The thread of melody, darkness, and memorable songwriting is the primary aim of DEATHWHITE, with lyrics exploring the pitfalls of existence, and organized religion.
“Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man.”
– Friedrich Nietzsche

Triptykon’s second album, “Melana Chasmata” (rough translation: “black, deep depressions/valleys”) will be released on April 14 (Europe) and April 15 (North America), 2014, through Century Media Records/Prowling Death Records Ltd.
Like its predecessor “Eparistera Daimones”, the album was produced by Triptykon’s singer/guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior and guitarist V. Santura and recorded and mixed at V. Santura’s own Woodshed Studio in southern Germany as well as at Triptykon’s rehearsal facilities in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2013 and 2014. Those who have already heard “Melana Chasmata” have described it as “atmospheric, dark, diabolical, and dramatic”, “diverse, epic, and doomy, but on an entirely different level”, “a fierce boulder of abhorrence”, or “very heavy and yet very aesthetic at the same time”.
“Melana Chasmata” will feature the following nine songs, at a playing time of around 67 minutes:
1. Tree Of Suffocating Souls
2. Boleskine House
3. Altar Of Deceit
4. Breathing
5. Aurorae
6. Demon Pact
7. In The Sleep Of Death
8. Black Snow
9. Waiting
Further new Triptykon music has been recorded, to be released as an EP or mini album later in 2014 or early in 2015.
Among other formats, the album will be released as a 32-page mediabook (with lyrics and liner notes to every song, and with a special fold out poster), as a gatefold vinyl double album (with posters and large-format booklet), and for digital download. Additionally, Century Media is scheduled to issue a special box set, limited to 2000 copies. The box set will include the album, a Triptykon silver pendant, a poster, postcards, a Triptykon tote bag, and a cap.
“Breathing” Single Cover. Releasing on March 17, 2014.
To commemorate the unveiling of “Melana Chasmata”, Century Media will release a collector’s gatefold 7″ vinyl single, featuring the songs “Breathing” and “Boleskine House”. The single will be available on March 17, 2014, and be limited to a pressing 1000 (of which 200 will be in red vinyl). “Breathing” and “Boleskine House” will also be available as a digital single (including the option for a digital booklet), and they will be streamed on YouTube and Soundcloud.
“Melana Chasmata” will be further distinguished by featuring, for the second time for Triptykon, the extraordinary art of legendary Swiss surrealist HR Giger. Following “Eparistera Daimones”, the group began to make arrangements for an entirely different cover for the second album. Completely unexpectedly, HR Giger approached Tom Gabriel Warrior in October of 2011 to express his appreciation of how Triptykon had used his art on the first album and to propose a continuation of the artistic collaboration. This development thus marks the first time any musical artist has worked with HR Giger on three albums (Celtic Frost’s “To Mega Therion”, and Triptykon’s “Eparistera Daimones” and “Melana Chasmata”), and it commemorates a collaboration that has now lasted for 30 years.
“Melana Chasmata” features Giger’s dramatically mysterious “Mordor VII” (work no. 283, 100 x 70 cm, acrylic on wood, 1975) as a front cover and Giger’s “Landschaft XVI” [“Landscape XVI”] (work no. 209, 100 x 70 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1972) as gatefold art.
After a lengthy hiatus, Triptykon will return to the stage this year to promote “Melana Chasmata”. Among the concerts so far scheduled are appearances at the celebrated Roadburn Festival, at Rock Hard Festival, and, pending the issuance of the proper visas by US authorities, Triptykon’s return to the United States for an exclusive appearance at Maryland Death Fest. For further information on live dates, please refer to Triptykon’s presence on the web.
Triptykon consists of: V. Santura (guitar, vocals), Norman Lonhard (drums, percussion), Vanja Slajh (bass, vocals), and Tom Gabriel Warrior (voice, guitars).
ZUD – When I think of Thompson’s Point, Maine, the last thing I would think of is Black Metal or any Metal at all. I dunno, it’s Maine for crap sakes. I think of those moose crossing/warning signs I used to see when I did venture into that state as a printing salesman. Hey. That was a long time ago. I wore an embarrassing tie for that shit job. Alright, enough of my bullshit and onto ZUD; and this Black Metal meets 70’s Classic Rock band is from Thompson’s Point, Maine. Metal be thy name.
This Debut Album From ZUD Is Titled: The Good, The Bad And The Damned.
ZUD knows how to jam. ZUD can shred. ZUD can probably do any damn thing they want to do, way, way up there in Thompson’s Point, Maine. Portal To Infinity is a rather quick intro. It’s not that spooky to me. Then again, I’m the dude that brags about really seeing a spectre back in the late 80’s. No, I wasn’t drunk or high at that particular time. At 12:47, Skull ShapedHell is one hell of a blackened jam! This song is so damn good that it seems like it’s only 4 minutes long to me.
Blood And Twilight at 8:23 long, continues the guitar driven and darkened good-times. Is it proper to use “good-times” within an album review that is Black Metal themed? Hey. At my age it’s good-times just going to buy a 6-pack of Yuengling. The Junction clocks in at 9:40. As you can see, these songs are long. However, these songs kick some blackened backwoods ass. Dendrite Fumes entertains at 9:15 long. There’s a ton of bang for your Metal buck with this ZUD album; and it’s underground Metal that’s saturated with quality song writing, musicianship and vocals.
With Black Metal vocals, Classic Rock intervals of guitar jamming, intense drumming and moments of Metal extremity with evil lyrics, ZUD is a band that I’m more than happy to embrace and welcome into my Metal world of loyalty. Shit. I used the word “happy” in this album review. Whatever. Y’all get my Metal point. ZUD is the real Metal deal and if you think that sounds cliché then go read some old copies of Reader’s Digest. Metal be thy Maine. Oops. I meant name.

We’re happy to announce the signing of Germany’s Dark Metal band SCHWARZER ENGEL!
The band was formed in 2007 by the vocalist and guitarist Dave Jason. The live line-up includes Jens Lindmaier (guitar), Stefan Grießhammer (guitar), Bert Oeler (bass) and Marcel Woitowicz (drums).
In 2010 they signed with Trisol Music Group and released their debut album “Apokalypse”.
In late 2010 SCHWARZER ENGEL toured with Ahab and The Vision Bleak through Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. The tour was accompanied by the release of the band’s EP “Geister und Dämonen”.
The second album “Träume Einer Nacht” followed in April 2011.
SCHWARZER ENGEL played at several festivals in 2011 and 2012, such as the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Hexentanz Festival, Castle Storm Festival and Dark Storm Festival.
SCHWARZER ENGEL’s music can be described as modern dark metal with heavy guitar riffs, double bass attacks, catchy melodies and furious, deep vocals – all topped with orchestral arrangements.
The band’s poetic German lyrics are about human failures, impressions of nature, myths and the cruel reality of today’s world.
Band leader Dave Jason about the signing with Massacre Records:
“I’m happy to announce that SCHWARZER ENGEL has teamed up with Massacre Records! The label has proven that it’s doing a great job in supporting their artists.
Massacre Records is the perfect partner for the release of SCHWARZER ENGEL’s upcoming album as well as the “Schwarze Sonne EP”, which will be the album’s harbringer.”
SCHWARZER ENGEL’s “Schwarze Sonne EP” will be released in late May via Massacre Records, followed by the worldwide release of the band’s third album “In Brennenden Himmeln” in late July!

South Tyrolean Dark Metallers GRAVEWORM have now uploaded the official trailer for their recently announced Fragments Of Death Tour 2012 in November. Watch the trailer below!
Main man Stefano Fiori comments:
“I´m happy to announce that we will be on tour in autumn. It’s a great package with awesome support bands (Agathodaimon, Emergency Gate & KadavriK) and this will be our first tour in a long time. I´m sure we’ll have a blast! A big thank you to all of our fans worldwide! I wanna see you out there – let’s party before, during and of course after the show! Cheers and rock on!”
Dark Progressive Avant-Garde Metal entity Trillion Red has teamed with PureGrainAudio.com to offer a full album stream of the band’s forthcoming release Metaphere. The album becomes available on October 23rd via badGod Music, but can be heard in its entirety at this location: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/trillion-red-metaphere-album-stream-exclusive-world-premiere
Taking his cerebral brand of auditory darkness to a new level, Trillion Red mastermind Patrick Brown is one of metal’s few musicians who can legitimately claim to have discovered new musical territory with his newest creation.
“I would call the album the deconstruction and recreation of modern extreme music. Patrick of Trillion Red will be remembered as an innovator years after they are gone sadly to say. This maybe album of the year right now for me…” – Absolute Zero
“I would give you ‘Trillions’ of reasons to hear this magnificent work.” – Heavy Hard Metalmania
If it is singularity, the tried, and tested, or just bizarre that you want, don’t bother looking any further. However, if you yearn for ‘new’ and ‘engaging’, something that antagonizes and simultaneously calms the soul-this LP is for you.
Metaphere is Trillion Red’s debut full-length after last year’s Two Tongues EP. This LP mightily sheds ‘the disconnects’ of Two Tongues, and unleashes a united and firm mark onto the Dark Progressive Avant-Garde Metal sound. It showcases the enormous leap Patrick has taken in creating soundscapes that alternate between heavy and hammering structures, to ambient interludes that all come together to create a twisted musical abstract.
Trillion Red is firmly rooted both thematically and musically in the radical emotions of the human experience. Despite the existential and intangible subject matter, the struggle between darkness and light is the core concept throughout Metaphere, something which everyone can relate and derive inspiration.
This to be enjoyed and savored as a boundless experience that flows seamlessly from beginning to end. Take further passes, and time after time, your ears will gain further insight to what is being said. With a passion to create a new and inspirational musical experience, Trillion Red exceeds expectations with the release of Metaphere.
Finnish forerunners of melancholic Dark Metal, AMORPHIS, have posted their second studio report detailing the making or their as-of-yet-untitled 11th album, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTHcE6Z4lPM.
The follow-up to 2011’s highly successful masterpiece The Beginning Of Times (Finnish charts: #1, German charts: #16) is being produced and mixed by no less than HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren (CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL, DIMMU BORGIR).
The recordings are currently taking place in the famous premises of Petrax Studio in Hollola (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) and 5K Studios in Helsinki.
AMORPHIS’ 11th studio album is planned for a March/April 2013 release via Nuclear Blast Records.
TRILLION RED – The debut full length, METAPHERE, from TRILLION RED will be released on October 23rd, 2012, via badGod Music. The dark and sinister music of TRILLION RED has summoned your Metal soul! You have been warned. Check out the track list below!

“We had to face the fact that if we want to develop our music and sound we need a producer who has a vision and whom we can accept as an authority,” commented AMORPHIS guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen. “I know that we’re not the most flexible guys when it comes to letting outsiders into our camp for telling us how to do things. We spent one evening at our management office, talking about the right producer and the recording sessions in general. As usual, the best decisions are not far to seek. We’ve been talking to Peter about him producing AMORPHIS for ages. I think the first time we spoke about this was when we met first at the Nuclear Blast festival tour in 1994, and it was in Helsinki around a year ago when we last speculated about the idea. We’ve been following Peter’s career – he’s developed as a musician and especially as a producer over the years. Plus he’s one of the true survivors from the 90’s death metal scene who is still around just like us, so we share kind of an old school mental level.”
The recordings are currently taking place in the famous premises of Petrax Studio in Hollola (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) and 5K Studios in Helsinki.
Esa explains: “We’ve decided to record in Finland so that Peter can come here to escape to Petrax in the countryside with us, in order to record all the drums plus some additional lines. Later on, we’ll continue in Helsinki at 5K Studios to lay down the rest of the material. The mixing will be done with Peter in the Swedish Abyss Studios. We’ll keep you posted about how the sessions proceed!”
AMORPHIS’ 11th studio album is planned for a March/April 2013 release via Nuclear Blast Records.
AGALLOCH have made their new EP, Faustian Echoes, available for streaming at their Bandcamp pageHERE.
This EP will be available as a digital download at the Bandcamp site starting on July 11th when the band begins their Summer tour in Portland, Oregon [see complete routing below]. The LP and CD versions will be released through AGALLOCH’s own imprint, Dammerung Arts. Both the LP and CD versions will be initially only available during the band’s trek (July 11th – August 11th) and will then be made available to the world following the tour.
“Faustian Echoes” is a single, two-part song based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s epic masterpiece “Faust.” Reaching over twenty minutes, “Faustian Echoes” is the longest song AGALLOCH have ever written. Recorded mostly live at Portland’s Jackpot Studio by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis), mixed by Anderson and later mastered by Justin Weis (Ludicra, Hammers Of Misfortune, Worm Ouroboros) at Trakworx, “Faustian Echoes” continues and expands on AGALLOCH’s dark, brooding, and colossal sound.
Having formed in 1996, AGALLOCH have consistently produced existentially dark music stretching over four full length albums, a handful of EPs, and numerous single tracks and compilation appearances. AGALLOCH’s influence can be seen in many of the so-called “post-black metal” bands and they are often regarded as the first band to bridge the neofolk and black metal genres. The band has earned a reputation for explosive live shows and has sold out venues across Europe and the US.
