POWER THEORY – Announces Addition Of Second Guitarist; Local Live Dates Announced

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, Power Metal, power metal bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 31, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Philadelphia-based Trad Metal band Power Theory would like to welcome renowned Metal guitarist Steve Stegg, into our family as our newest band member. Steve is a founding member and former guitarist for Blood Feast, Sleepy Hollow, and Tapping the Vein.

“Power Theory has been looking to add a second dual rhythm/lead guitarist since the end of the recording sessions for An Axe to Grind, but our commitments haven’t given us the time to do anything but start to compile a list of potential candidates,” guitarist Bob “BB” Ballinger explained.

“Steve is a great friend and supporter of the band, and has been a regular at our local shows; in fact he replaced me as the Colossus guitarist and played with Jay Pekala prior to his first Sleepy Hollow tenure. We would always jokingly added Steve as our top candidate when we discussed it, but knew he was very busy with Sleepy Hollow and there was no chance, so we moved on to other names” added BB. “Steve informed us he had become available  in mid July and was interested in jamming to see if there was chemistry and it was evident from the first few minutes it was a great fit for both Power Theory and Steve.”

____________________________

Immediate plans for the band are two area shows in August:

August 11th

FalloutZine Presents: at O’Reilly’s Pub in Philadelphia, PA – October 31, Anvil Bitch, Sinister Realm, Power Theory, Hammer Fight, and Mistress

August 19th

Magnetar Media and Biz R Entertainment Present at Jimmy’s Place in Allentown, PA: North American Assault – White Wizzard, Icarus Witch, Widow, Power Theory, and Infernal Opera

____________________________

“We will then take a short break from live shows to start demo tracking for a new full length CD we are planning to start recording in February  2013 and release in 2013 as well. We are currently negotiating with a legendary artist/producer for the project (more to come soon on that). Steve will be a very big part of the writing and recording process for the new album, and we will resume some live shows in October 2012. European dates are being planned for 2013 with Red Lion Music as well as Warriors of Metal Fest VI, and some US tour dates with Axxenstar and Taberah for summer 2013.”

Power Theory released An Axe to Grind on June 29th via Pure Steel Records. The album is available at http://www.powertheory.net

ORCHID – Signs With Nuclear Blast

Posted in doom metal, doom rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on July 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Nuclear Blast is extremely proud to announce the worldwide signing of San Francisco based doom rockers ORCHID!

Commented the band: “After many months of talking to different labels about our future, we’re very excited to announce that we’ve decided to join forces with Nuclear Blast. We’ve been working on new material on and off for the last year and we’re feeling really good about the new songs. It seems like they’re a continuation in the same tradition of the material on our first full length, Capricorn, but also, show some new sides of our music that should surprise everyone and show that ORCHID isn’t a band that just wants to keep making the same album over and over. We’re really excited for everyone to hear it!”

Commented Nuclear Blast head of A&R, Andy Siry: “Ever since we first heard of ORCHID and witnessed their perfect way of bringing back the glorious days of Rock Music, we knew we had to work with this amazing band. After meeting them on their most recent European tour we literally were blown away by their stunningly intense performance! So here we are, proud as f*ck, welcoming one of the most hopefully and authentic bands to the Nuclear Blast family. Every single one at the label loves ORCHID and so will you! CHECK THEM OUT!”

Since their inception back in 2006, the band featuring well-known tattoo artist Theo Mindell (http://www.spidermurphys.com ) on vocals has achieved massive global awareness with their stunning debut releases Through The Devil’s Doorway (EP, 2009) and Capricorn (Full-length, 2011).

The video clip for the title track of the album, a nice video interview with the band by Rock Hard Germanys very own Goetz Kuehnemund as well as some more ORCHID tunes can be streamed at the bands Facebook profile through the “Listen”/”Videos” buttons: http://www.facebook.com/orchidsf

More info on a first release via Nuclear Blast will be announced soon. Keep your eyes and ears open!

KRAMPUS – Debut First Official Music Video For ‘KRONOS’ HERITAGE’

Posted in folk metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Their first full-length effort, Survival Of The Fittest, has been produced by KRAMPUS’ charismatic frontman Filippo Gianotti himself at Udine’s legendary Blackmirror Studios and is set for release in late August 2012. Shortly after the release, KRAMPUS will embark on their first extensive European tour, joining Wintersun and Korpiklaani on 2012’s edition of the hugely successful Heidenfest tour.

KRAMPUS’ Declaration:

Krampus, the winter demon, has survived the repression of the modern gods. Born from shame for the mankind decay, under the cold breeze in the shades of the Alps, we join him in his dealing out of the fallible human’s just deserts. Like roots breaking concrete, we shake minds dulled by the weakness of present society. We fight fearlessly for our beliefs, aiming to give back at least some of what has been taken from mother nature. We kindle the embers hidden inside each and every one of you, choked by the lies of nations: Embers of Honour, Pride, Traditions, and Freedom.

What frontman Filippo says about the song:

“Kronos’ heritage Is a question: what are we going to leave to our children if we destroy their world? Too many times we forget that the injuries of this planet will bleed over our children.
There’s an African proverb that says: “this world is not the heritage of our fathers, but a loan of our children.”

Fear the Krampus…

Wanna See My Barq’s ‘Metal Bites’ Cassette? It’s Really Cool…

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

That’s it at the top! That’s my cool Barq’s Metal Bites cassette tape! Plus it’s still sealed with its original plastic wrap! I bought this cool cassette for 50 cents (U.S.) at a thrift store about a year ago. I haven’t opened it cause I listen to cassettes rather infrequently. Barq’s is a brand of root beer, owned by the Coca-Cola Company.

I’ve recently seen this Barq’s Metal Bites cassette on ebay with a “buy it now” price of $10 (U.S.) and that doesn’t include shipping of $2.75. Eventually I’ll open this cassette and play it. In the meantime, it’s part of my Metal collection.

Barq’s Metal Bites mystery: I’m not certain if this cassette was ever sold in record stores. I would guess that this cassette was used as a promotion/giveaway; preferably in a grocery store. Who knows?

I already have the songs that are on this cassette on CD (with the exception of the live version of Balls To The Wall by ACCEPT. Overall, the compilation of songs on this cassette are not too shabby. Check out the track listing and other photos below:

Barq’s Metal Bites – back of cassette

Barq’s Metal Bites – Track Listing:

Bark At The Moon – Ozzy Osbourne

Black Out In The Red Room – Love/Hate

Teas’n, Pleas’n – Dangerous Toys

Balls To The Wall (Live) – Accept

* To the best of my Metal research, this Barq’s Metal Bites cassette was released back in 1991. The record label is Sony Music (Special Products).

SKELETAL SPECTRE – Doom-Death Befoulers Join Pulverised Records; Preview Track Available

Posted in Death Metal, doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 25, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Pulverised Records are pleased to welcome American/Swedish Doom-Death befoulers SKELETAL SPECTRE to their ever-expanding roster of repugnance!

Fronted by Vanessa Nocera (Wooden Stake, Scaremaker, etc.), SKELETAL SPECTRE are a ghastly hybrid of demonacy influenced by the spirits of the undead and midnight graveyard sacrifices. The band released two full-length offerings under the Razorback Records banner and are set to unleash their third studio endeavor, Voodoo Dawn — a malicious riffscape of sonic extremity — upon unsuspecting ears later this year.

Comments Nocera of the signing: “We are proud and honored to be on Pulverised Records’ roster! Definitely a label that I find to be one of the coolest around! We put a great deal of hard work into this album so that it would stand out from anything we’ve ever done. I think it is a testament to the band’s future, and we are looking to play live, especially in Europe so watch out. We’re coming!

Adds Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin Chiang: “The moment we heard the beginning riff off the first track from Voodoo Dawn, it completely blew us away and somehow we already knew something filthy was brewing from within. There’s a perfect balance of those trademark Swede-eerie melodies and mammoth riffs that any sludge/doom maniac would approve of. It’s always very satisfying to discover a great hidden gem in this business, and we are definitely proud to say that SKELETAL SPECTRE is one of those gems. Keep your eyes and ears peeled; the voodoo curse shall rear its ugly head soon!”

Check out teaser track “Bone Dust” from Voodoo Dawn at THIS LOCATION. Further details, including art work and release date, will be revealed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Behold the Pentagram – guitar/bass

Entitled ‘British Lion’ and comprising ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between Iron Maiden tours and releases, it is an album that will surprise and delight music fans the world over.

With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.

FEAR FACTORY – Announce August Headlining Dates For The World Industrialist Tour 2012

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, industrial metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on July 23, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Legendary Metal manipulators FEAR FACTORY are pleased to announce a U.S. headlining tour next month. Set to commence on August 1 in Fresno, California, the next segment of the The World Industrialist Tour 2012 will pummel its way across the country and includes a stop at this year’s Juggalo Gathering in Cave In Rock, Illinois alongside Soulfly, Static X, DMX, Onyx, and George Clinton among others. Additional dates will be announced in the coming days. Comments guitarist Dino Cazares: “We are really looking forward to getting back on tour to play classic FEAR FACTORY songs and new songs from The Industrialist!”

This will mark the FEAR FACTORY’s first official trek in support of The Industrialist, unleashed to North American fans June 5 via Candlelight Records. The second album written by Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell since reuniting in 2009 after a seven-year split., The Industrialist debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 chart at position 38 and maintained the #1 spot on the CMJ charts for three consecutive weeks.

Commended by Revolver Magazine in a 4/5 review for offering up “the same pulsating, angry urgency of old…nicely counterbalanced by some incredibly deft melodies,” while Metal Underground opined: “Burton C. Bell’s vocal harmonies, the group’s dynamics, Dino’s guitar play and, of course, the tightness of the rhythm section — featuring newcomer Matt DeVries of Chimaira fame on bass — was created with such superb craftsmanship that the album is in constant rotation in my brain, leading to play after play in the physical world, ” The Industrialist continues to floor fans and critics internationally.

WITCHCRAFT – “LEGEND” Cover Art Revealed

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on July 22, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Swedish Doom Metal icons WITCHCRAFT have revealed the cover art of the band’s forthcoming album, Legend, which marks the bands first after a long 5 year hiatus.

Commented singer/mainman Magnus Pelander: “A friend of mine had an idea about a cover for Legend. I developed the idea and gave it back to my friend who then passed it on to another friend who happened to be a designer. The designer then pushed it in a new direction. The result is already legendary.“

Bass player Ola Henriksson adds: “The album cover is meant to reflect the music and I think it does that with its heavy, dark & clean design.“

Legend will be released September 21 (Europe) and September 25, 2012 (North America) via Nuclear Blast.
