ANA KEFR – Parts Ways With Two Band Members

Posted in Extreme Metal, extreme metal bands, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on December 1, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Ana Kefr - Large Logo - B&W

Frontman of American extreme prog outfit ANA KEFR (Arabic, “I am Infidel“), Rhiis Lopez, has issued the following statement regarding the recent parting ways with lead guitarist Brendan Moore and drummer Shane Dawson:

“After 3 years of working together, recording the digi-single “Tonight We Watch the Children Fucking Burn” and our critically acclaimed second full-length album “The Burial Tree (II),” we have decided that it would be in the best interests of all involved to let Brendan and Shane pursue their own different musical paths. The reasons all boil down to a conflict of personal interests, but the parting has been on amicable terms and we genuinely wish them the absolute best in their future endeavors. It has been a good ride these past 3 years!

At the moment, ANA KEFR is focused on the future and writing, for a strong return in 2013. We are extremely excited about the new material and can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

ANA KEFR released their second full-length album in 2011, The Burial Tree (II) (Muse Sick), which climbed to #3 best-selling death metal album on Amazon for 2 consecutive weeks – the only independently released album in the top 50. Shortly after the album’s release and a brief American West-coast tour with NEKROGOBLIKON, the band organized and financed their first 32-date nationwide tour, The Zephyr US Tour 2011.

Bringing their unique brand of extreme metal to over half of the continental United States, ANA KEFR subsequently supported SABATON‘s North American release of “Carolus Rex,” and vocalist Rhiis Lopez appeared on “Blessed He With Boils,” the upcoming debut full-length record (December 21, 2012) from cinematic black metal outfit XANTHOCHROID. ANA KEFR completed the cycle of The Burial Tree (II) with a finale performance at the California Metalfest VII festival, alongside KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and others.

David Kilminster, Guitarist on Roger Waters’ The Wall Tour, Releases Debut Solo CD ‘Scarlet – The Director’s Cut’

Posted in classic rock, classic rock albums, guitarists, Hard Rock, Music, rock guitarists, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on November 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

London, UK – Guitar virtuoso David Kilminster, best known for his work with Roger Waters and Keith Emerson, has released his debut solo CD titled Scarlet – The Director’s Cut. David’s radical techniques and mesmerizing sounds have captivated fans and fellow musicians alike worldwide. Named “Guitarist of the Year” by Guitar Magazine in 1991, the recognition propelled him on a super-charged career as a multifaceted guitarist, vocalist, writer, engineer, and producer. Credited by keyboard legend Keith Emerson for inspiring him to go on the road again, David is a familiar figure worldwide to fans of progressive rock. And now, much to the elation of his fans, David is releasing an innovative new CD that will amaze all who listen!

Says David about his new CD, “I guess the album ‘Scarlet – The Director’s Cut’ is just a reflection of all the wonderful music that I grew up listening to on the radio, along with some deeply personal lyrics. It also represents the first time that I’ve ever been let loose in a studio, so I was definitely like a kid in a candy store!!! Hence trying a whole bunch of things I’ve never done before…like singing lead vocals, playing piano and even scoring for a string quartet!”

Fans and critics agree that David Kilminster is one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge from the UK. He is a sought after collaborator, band member and solo performer. After touring for a number of years with such luminaries as John Wetton, Geoff Downes, Carl Palmer, and ELP keyboard Keith Emerson, in 2006 David went on the road with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters as lead guitarist and vocalist in the extraordinary global staging of ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’. More recently David was seen atop a thirty foot wall playing guitar on Roger Waters ‘The Wall – Live’ tour, which became the highest grossing tour of the year, playing to over 3 million people worldwide!!

David’s work is in a class by itself, encompassing technical mastery and enormous power. His vast musical influences are strongly felt on his new album. Says David, “I have a very eclectic list of influences. Musically, it’s anywhere from Debussy to Bjork, Chet Baker to Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley to Queen…it’s all in there, mixed up in my own unique way…” As far as the title goes, David explains, “I really love the provocative images that the word ‘Scarlet’ conjures up in my head… it’s a very passionate color, and brings to mind characters such as ‘Scarlet O’Hara’ in ‘Gone With The Wind’, ‘The Scarlet Woman’ (the goddess from the mystical system of Thelema), Scarlet Johansson (very cute!!)… and also the Sir Conan Doyle book ‘A Study In Scarlet’, which I believe is where Sherlock Holmes was first introduced. In a way the last reference seems particularly apt, as I feel like this album is my first real introduction into the world of music…”

In closing David has this to impart to his fans and listeners, “There’s so much of my heart, soul, passion and energy in this recording… you can almost see my DNA in the grooves of the CD!!! So I really hope you enjoy the listening experience…”

Post-Punk/Indie Band THE ANTICS Releases Debut Album: RUNNING FASTER

Posted in indie rock, Music, post punk, Punk rock, rock albums, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

New Jersey band channels rock through the ages with a modern twist

Los Angeles, CA – Expect to be captivated by a roll of basement jams and garage grooves on the debut album Running Faster from post-punk/indie rock band The Antics, available now on iTunes and Bandcamp. The New Jersey-based band cooks up a cohesive rock genre toss-up featuring fuzzy guitar riffs and raw emotion that is quickly making these guys hometown heroes.

Fun-loving and gifted, the young men of The Antics are Luke Meisenbacher (vocals/guitar), Derek Rosengarth (guitar), Kyle Hammerschmidt (bass) and Josh Reitan (drums). Practicing their instruments from an early age, each member grew up in different parts of NJ but play like they’ve been together all their lives. Just three years strong, the band has endured a few changes but their brotherly bond enabled them to create a staple sound that defines their vibrant personalities.

Listen to and watch THE ANTICS perform Payday below! Whoa!

The Antics’ music radiates high energy supported by crunchy guitar licks, bright melodies and toe-tapping drums. Their material often reminds fans of post-punk super groups and major influences Joy Division, The Strokes and The Smiths. The group describes their sound as post-punk influenced accented by 60’s pop, surf and garage rock.

Stellar production from RH Management Services LLC and Meisenbacher on Running Faster illuminates the lead singer’s bright, clean vocals, while enhancing the texture of each instrument. Penning the album’s lyrics, Luke draws inspiration from The Beatles and The Strokes to conjure up sing-along melodies and conversational lyrics.

“I think I’m a very honest songwriter,” Luke said. “I don’t write music that sounds exactly like something else or things that don’t matter to me.” The Antic’s heartbreak single “In The Night” is a prime example of the group’s knack for catchy rhythms with an impressive 50-second, raging guitar solo to finish off. With a track listing to cure heartache, much of the subject matter on Running Faster surrounds love, pain and happiness.

Killer hits, relatable lyrics and rock star personas – equipped with the full package, The Antics are delivering a top-notch effort of rock through the ages with a modern twist. Having entertained crowds at Connecticut and New Jersey venues The Space, Crossroads and The Stone Pony, The Antics are eager to take their masterpiece to the masses. Keep up with the New Jersey foursome by visiting their website or like them on Facebook.

CHIP DIMONICK “The Sign Of A New Generation” – Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Posted in glam rock, Hair Metal, Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Music, rock bands, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

CHIP DIMONICK – Party Rock is here to stay and Chip DiMonick has made this very loud and clear on their fourth album: The Sign Of A New Generation. This fun-fabulous and rifftastic 5 song offering from Chip DiMonick is downright Rockin’ Righteous and should be on any Rockaholic’s list of good-times-must-have albums from 2012. You just gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta let Chip DiMonick Rockify your brain! I have. It feels F’n cool.

Chip DiMonick became famous on the Pittsburgh music scene back in 2005, with the debut release Bat An Eyelash causing a formidable stir upon the East Coast. Opening for such kick-ass national acts as Wednesday 13, Lynch MobLA Guns, Adelita’s Way and Art Of Dying, Chip DiMonick shouldn’t be an underground Heavy Rock band for too much longer. Then again, the underground scene wouldn’t want to see Chip DiMonick go anyways!

There’s something to be said about real FUN Party Rock that Chip DiMonick serves up and that is: IT KICKS FUN ROCKIN’ ASS! When a song such as When The Drunkest Girls Wear The Shortest Skirts gets me all fired-up and singing along… then Chip DiMonick have accomplished their Rockin’ deed they’ve aimed for and I’m grateful for it. Ring that Party Rock bell and tell your lame-ass neighbors to go to hell. Metal be thy name.

My favorite song on The Sign Of A New Generation is She Won’t Let Me Play. Holy shit I love this song. This song should be played on every (supposedly cool) FM and satellite radio station in the entire F’n universe. Big drums, big bass and big guitars are abundant on all 5 songs, coupled with the stylish vocals of Chip DiMonick himself.

From Pump (the anthem inspired by the pride of Pittsburgh sports scene) to its anthemic counterpart (and party-crazed igniter) title song, Chip DiMonick doesn’t hold back on raising the mercury on the psyche-your-adrenaline meter! If you’re uptight and/or constipated, get lost. Cool people, all-night party maniacs, Rockaholics, fun Rock chicks (who can stay out late) and fans of 80’s Arena Rock, Hard Rock and Glam will appreciate what Chip DiMonick have accomplished with their new album. Metal be thy name.

COLLECTION OF RARITIES AVAILABLE TOMORROW

Nov. 19, 2012, Philadelphia – From The Vaults, Vol. 1 (Nov. 20, Season of Mist), Kylesa’s twelve-song collection which features unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the Savannah-based band’s catalogue, is now streaming in its entirety via Loudwire (http://loudwire.com/kylesa-from-the-vaults-vol-1-exclusive-album-stream/).

“This project has been a labor of love,” explained guitarist/singer/producer Phillip Cope. “We have spent over a year going through old songs, covers, etc. and collected those we felt went well together; remixing and finishing them up.  We didn’t want to release something just thrown together so we put a lot of thought and time into it.  I am really happy about how this came together.  I think it is a good representation of Kylesa’s different styles from early on to present day.”

Singer/guitar player Laura Pleasants recently gave Decibel Magazine an in-depth look at the songs included on From The Vaults, Vol. 1 with a track-by-track rundown:

http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/kylesas-laura-pleasants-track-by-track-preview-of-from-the-vaults-vol-1/.

RELEASE FEATURES TWO NEW SONGS, QUEEN AND ACCEPT COVERS AND REMIXES

Nov. 19, 2012, Jerome, Ariz. – Puscifer, the Northern Arizona-based band helmed by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle), will release an eight-song EP titled Donkey Punch The Night on Feb. 19 via Puscifer Entertainment.

“While continuing our tradition of releasing a few new songs at a time,” explained Keenan. “I also had an itch that needed scratching, and that itch was ‘Balls To The Wall.’ Which was followed by an even harder to reach itch known as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’  And scratch them we did.”

The collection features two new songs written by Keenan and Puscifer cohorts Mat Mitchell, Carina Round and Josh Eustis: “Breathe” and “Dear Brother” as well as two covers: Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Accept’s “Balls To The Wall.” Donkey Punch The Night was recorded in Jerome, Ariz. in Keenan’s Caduceus Cellars (www.caduceus.org) with the same roster from 2011’s Conditions of My Parole (Keenan, Mitchell, Round, Eustis, Matt McJunkins and  Jeff Friedl) and guests Zac Rae (piano), Juliette Commagere (vocals), Josh Morreau (bass) and Claire Acey (vocals).

Remixes of the four songs round-out the release with contributions from Los Angeles techno wizard Drumcell, Big Black Delta (aka Jonathan Bates, formerly of Mellowdrone and touring guitarist for M83), Sonoio (Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini of Modwheelmood and touring keyboard player for Muse and NIN) and Central American DJ, Silent Servant, who is well known for his mash-up of post-punk and techno.

SOUNDGARDEN – Creation Of “King Animal” Mural At Easy Street Records (Time Lapse Video)

SOUNDGARDEN– Below is the time-lapse of the creation of the King Animal mural at Easy Street Records in Seattle Washington. King Animal is the new studio album in over 15 years from Soundgarden. The sixth studio album overall, King Animal was released on November 13th, via Universal Republic.

The song you’ll be listening to is By Crooked Steps, as it’s featured on King Animal. I dig this song, it grooves and flows along quite excellent. Chris Cornell’s vocals are once again stellar and this band is legendary. Metal be thy name.

THE ROLLING STONES “GRRR!” – I Bought This Super Cool 2CD And I’ll Tell You Much More About It…

Posted in classic rock, classic rock albums, Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on November 16, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

THE ROLLING STONES – On its release date of November 13th, I happily purchased the brand new 2CD of greatest hits from The Rolling Stones titled: GRRR! at my local Target store. Here’s a funny blunder I am guilty of while making this GRRR! purchase:

Upon seeing GRRR! stocked upon the CD display at Target, the excitement overcame me; so much so that I read the sale price (incorrectly) as $9.99 (U.S.). After buying this 2CD and a few other items, I thought to myself: “gee whiz, Stone, that amount I paid was higher than I calculated in my brain.” I paused, then came to a complete stop before exiting the store. I needed to check my sales receipt and make sure I didn’t get screwed on the price of an item (which happens more often than not).

The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary Logo designed by: Shepard Fairey

The Rolling Stones tongue logo was originally created by John Pashe, back in 1971.

Sure enough, I read the price sticker wrong on the GRRR! 2CD. Instead of the price being $9.99 (like I thought I read it) it was $19.99 instead! Whoa! I had not a clue. I guess the good news is that I didn’t pay $19.99 for GRRR! after all. Nope. I instead paid the sale price for GRRR! which was: $16.99. That’s very, very cool. Heck, this is a “2” CD after all and it boasts 40 classics from The Rolling Stones! Not too shabby of a Rockin’ buy and   YOLO!

The 2 NEW songs on GRRR! are: One More Shot and Doom And Gloom. Both of these songs ROCK!!! WHOA!!! Think: Hard Rock Rolling Stones, (not) Start Me Up or Harlem Shuffle. Seriously, I am very psyched-out about these 2 new songs; they signify that The Rolling Stones can certainly dig-in-deep and continue to put out some kick-ass Classic Hard Rockin’ material!

I highly recommend GRRR! to all Rolling Stones fans and anyone that digs Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Rock and the history of Rock and Roll! Metal be thy name.

DEF LEPPARD’S PHIL COLLEN – Brings Charity Auction To A Rousing Close: COLLEN’S “WINGS” GUITAR RAISES $20,000

NEW ZEALAND BUSINESSMAN – MURRAY BOLTON – IS THE WINNING BIDDER

ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO THE GERSON INSTITUTE SUPPORTING HOLISTIC CANCER THERAPY

Guitar Played Exclusively Throughout Def Leppard “Rock of Ages” Tour This Summer

______________________________________

(Los Angeles, CA) –In early September, PHIL COLLEN, lead guitarist for the iconic rock band DEF LEPPARD, announced plans for the charitable auction of “Wings” a custom Jackson PC1 guitar that COLLEN had played throughout this summer’s Rock of Ages tour. The auction began exclusively through eBay’s “Giving Works” on September 5th and ended on the morning of September 15th.

Reaching beyond all expectations, the highest bidder paid an amazing $15,000 for the one-of-a-kind guitar.  The lucky winner is New Zealand businessman Murray Bolton. COLLEN personally handed “Wings” over to Bolton a few weeks ago when Murray visited COLLEN’s home.

In an extraordinary act of charity Phil included $5000 of his own to the auction’s total in order to deliver a $20,000 check this past Thursday, November 15th, when he performed live at the San Diego based Gerson Institute.

“I am very excited to present this check to the people at the Gerson Institute”, said Collen. “Meeting Murray and handing over “Wings” was bitter-sweet. I really grew to love that guitar but am so happy that it’s going to a great home and the money will help so many more people.”

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, a more than appropriate time for COLLEN himself to introduce the auction’s winner and present the check to the Gerson Institute, a San Diego based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Gerson Therapy, an alternative treatment for cancer and other degenerative diseases.

In early 2012 Jake Willoughby, a guitar and music store owner, asked COLLEN if he would assist in helping to raise money towards the fight against cancer with Jake’s mother Connie having just passed away from pancreatic cancer after a courageous 13-month fight. By tragic coincidence Phil’s own father, Kenneth succumbed to the same disease in 2004. Jake donated a PHIL COLLEN signature guitar, the Jackson PC1 from his music store. In the spirit of hope it was named “Wings”. Mike Learn, a noted artist whose graphics are well-known in the guitar world, donated the graphic custom paint job on the guitar. Ironically, Mike also lost two family members to the same disease.

KYLESA “From The Vaults, Vol. 1” – Unveiling An Exceptional Bounty Of Sonic Heaviness!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 14, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

KYLESA – Fans of Kylesa know that this Savannah Georgia band can play heavy as molasses, sludgy, doomy and hard as railroad spikes, while (obviously) keeping an open mind approach to atmosphere of sound, feel, mood and vibes within each and every song they’ve ever recorded. Kylesa has never carbon copied their own creations. Kylesa is not a band built on slamming down the Metal hammer of sound and acting out the parts. No way.

With From The Vaults, Vol. 1, (releasing on November 20th, via Season Of Mist), Kylesa takes their multi-heavy genre approach to momentous heights, by offering up a combination of new, unreleased and alternate versions of songs, spanning their notable catalog of albums. New fans of Kylesa shall be born from listening to this excellent collection of songs on From The Vaults, Vol. 1.

Drained (previously unreleased Buzzov-en cover) showcases the thundering doom persona that Kylesa can unleash musically upon the senses, with an air of remarkable ease. Kylesa has taken a gilded pillar of a Pink Floyd song (Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun) and without question, have made said song their very own. The Psychedelic, Progressive and Stoner elements seem to marry into one another in (dare I say) miraculous heavy ways, while my ears inhale this Pink Floyd cover. At 6:58, this cover song is epic; the flow of musical sounds makes for a mind journey that I thank Kylesa for taking me on.

The new song on From The Vaults, Vol. 1 is End Truth. This song is dreamy, with a strong hint of melancholy and swirls of early 70’s Sabbath-like atmosphere. With that said, there is an amazing charge of relevance spilling from End Truth; so much so, that it’s a profoundly wonderful listen for me.

When one asks why a band would record alternate versions of their songs, the answer I’ll always give is: “whereas they can.” On Bottom Line II, Kylesa doesn’t hold back on a Punk spontaneity that’s built on speed, combined with a sudden and not so subtle lapse of Sludge. Another grand moment on this album.

Heavy Rock genius isn’t learned from a text-book, it’s earned from both experience and mastering one’s musical  skills. Kylesa has exemplified their genius impressively well with From The Vaults, Vol. 1. There’s no “I” in this band, just a whole lot of unique heavy that’s always a welcomed sound experience. Metal be thy name.
