SPV / Steamhammer signs a worldwide deal with NWoBHM cult act BATTLEAXE. It is not only for a new studio album called “Heavy Metal Sanctuary” which is due in early 2014, it also include the deluxe re-releases of the classic metal albums “Burn This Town” (out in October 2013) and “Power From The Universe” (out late summer 2014) with new covers, extended booklets and lots of bonus material.

The current line-up consists of the original members Dave King (vocals) and Brian Smith (bass) as well as Mick Percy (guitar) and Paul Atkinson (drums).

Dave King and Brian Smith say about the signing: “We think speaking for the whole band that we are all elated to be joining the SPV family. A label with great worldwide distribution and also featuring some of our favourite bands. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to re-release our old classic albums again as well as introduce our fans to our new more powerful sound. After a long and hard struggle we have finally managed to complete our new album Heavy Metal Sanctuary which we know will delight our fans worldwide. We do not think it will disappoint in either the songs or the production, and we feel that although it sounds modern and 21st century, it is still classic Battleaxe! We thank all our loyal fans all over the world who encouraged us to reform (indeed some even demanded it), even though some of you were not even born when the original albums were first released. Now because of this new deal, we will be able to see many of you in 2014 on the European festival scene and possibly around the world. Finally of course many, many thanks to Olly Hahn and all the staff at SPV for making this dream come true! ”

SPV/Steamhammer A&R Olly Hahn ads: “Sometimes you have to do something….and I did. As a child of the NWoBHM due to the lack of information’s you had to buy by the cover. In some cases the covers were good but the music average, in other cases the covers were not really good but the music was killer. This happened to me when I bought “Burn This Town”. The whole album, as well as the second one “Power From The Universe”, are classics for me and I know for many metal fans too. And I heard the new songs which are really strong and will surprise a lot of people. Yes, the band is ready to deliver…so are we!”

Vocalist Travis Ryan comments: “We noticed a lot of people were dismayed to find out there was a track available out there on a Japanese version of Monolith of Inhumanity that nobody outside of Japan had ever heard before. When it hit YouTube, that’s when we started getting emails from fans. We noticed the lyrics weren’t inside that version or available anywhere at all so that gave us the idea of throwing it on a B-side and releasing a 7″ vinyl single for “Your Disposal” with the song “An Exposition of Insides!” We feel that Monolith is the mother of all of our releases so far and I thought it’d be funny to make it look like she just squirted out a baby and that’s what this little guy looks like. Just in time for Summer Slaughter!”

ULCERATE – Innovative New Zealand Death Trio Preps Fourth LP For Deployment

Boasting an original, inventively dread-inspiring style of audio torture, Auckland, New Zealand-based Death Metal trio ULCERATE has completed the final stages of preparation for the pending release of their fourth horrific masterpiece, and first for Relapse Records.

Since their 2009 debut on Neurotic and two subsequent LPs through Willowtip, ULCERATE has strived to continually hone and contort their Death Metal attack, their sound ever-evolving into harsh new realms of turmoil, melding mechanical and organic elements into their haunting, blast-strewn explosiveness. A forward-thinking Death Metal style citing Hate Eternal, Gorguts and Immolation collides head-on into more dissonant and blackened infiltrations of Deathspell Omega or Portal, forming a monolithic anti-harmonic atrocity.

After signing ULCERATE last year, new label Relapse unveils the info on the band’s newest works as the album nears release late this Summer. After a year of writing and planning, the creation of the record came to fruition in March of this year when the band entered hometown MCA Studios. The nine passages harnessed during these sessions culminates into a nearly fifty-five minute document of the outfit’s most tumultuous craftsmanship yet, entitled Vermis.

Relapse will unleash the album on CD, double LP and digitally, now confirmed for release September 17th in North America, preceded bySeptember 13th in Germany and Benelux, and September 16th in the UK and rest of the world. Preorders have been made available here.

TO THE PAIN – BIO:

In the summer of 2010, singer John Intagliata, and guitarist Steve Shaver sat down in Steve’s studio, The Locker, to see if they could record some songs they wrote when they were teenagers in 1989. After recording one of their old tunes, they got the itch to write some new music. What followed was nine months of writing, and recording at “The Locker”. Steve and John wrote 6 new songs, and re-recorded an old song; ‘Silent Horror.’ After listening to playbacks of the songs, they looked at each other and said “we need to put together a kick-ass band, and bring these songs to the masses.” Thus the concept of TO THE PAIN was born.

Their original concept back in 1988 was a cross between Racer X, Megadeth, Metallica, King Diamond, and Queensryche. The newer version retained the Racer X crazy guitar solos, and the political angst of Megadeth, while adding a bit of the new school flavor of Bullet for My Valentine, Shadows Fall, and Killswitch Engage, to form a new and refreshing old school flavor of Metal. Joining John Intagliata (Vocals) and Steve Shaver (Lead Guitar) in TO THE PAIN are Jeremy Lustig (Bass Guitar), Mark Trojanoski (Rhythm Guitar), and Jimmy Klimatas (Drums).

TO THE PAIN’s self-titled debut is a lyrically diverse excursion. Taking on anything from politics, to the evil that men do, TO THE PAIN is not one to ever hold its tongue on any subject. Stylistically, the band’s music goes from full on thrashers like ‘For The People, Buy The People,’ to slow Sabbathy brutality on ‘The Smell of Sulfur.’

In 2012/2013 TO THE PAIN started with a slew of shows, bringing their energetic live show to such venues as EvenFlow Bar, JD’s Place, Village Pub,Katies of Smithtown and Mr Beery’s. With the scheduled summer 2013 release of their debut, TO THE PAIN hopes to bring the metal to the masses and continue to build on their following.

Stone Says: I really dig the “adult Gene” cover version! Whoa! Nice job Bruce Timm! The other cover is done superb as well; hopefully another generation of KISS fans can be grown from these comics! I didn’t subscribe to this KISS KIDS comic; I guess the “adult gene” cover won’t be available at newsstands due to it being for “subscription only.” Maybe I’ll locate it elsewhere down the Metal road.

If I see these KISS KIDS comics at the newsstand, I’ll probably buy 1 copy at a time and file ’em with my KISS Kollection. I cannot help myself. As Cinderella’s Tom Keifer has sung: “Somebody Save Me”… then again, don’t save me! KISS FOREVER. Metal be thy name.

PENTAGRAM – Confirms Select U.S. Shows In July And August

PENTAGRAM’s most recent album, Last Rites, was released via Metal Blade Records on April 14, 2011 and their first ever official DVD (also out on Metal Blade), When the Screams Come, on August 30, 2011. Both releases were met by rave reviews from fans and critics alike and saw the band playing sets at infamous SXSW festival in Austin, Texas as well as tours across the US and dates in Europe.

Recently, after months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM announced the addition of their new guitarist Matt Goldborough. His debut with the “Ram Family,” rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. The release of Freedoms Reign was timed to coincide with, and celebrate, the 29th anniversary of the release of FATES WARNING’s debut album, Night on Bröcken.

REVOLUTION HARMONY – “We Are” Lyric Video Streaming Now; Single Releases On Mandela Day, July 18th

Revolution Harmony, the brainchild of British music lecturer/journalist Ray Holroyd, has announced the July 18th release of its debut All-Star charity single, We Are. The song features vocals from Serj Tankian (System Of A Down) and Ihsahn (Emperor), as well as guitar solos by Devin Townsend.

Composed, arranged, programmed and produced by Ray Holroyd in Vancouver, the complex international studio project was recorded in North America, England, Norway and New Zealand, then mixed by Rohan Onraet (Slipknot, Machine Head) in London, and mastered by Ted Jensen (Green Day, Muse) in New York. The single also features Stefan Loh (We Claimed Sentience Once – signed to Revolution Harmony) on guitars, and additional vocals from the young up-and-coming UK singer Abbie Johnson.

Vancouver-based non-profit record label Revolution Harmony was launched in 2011 by Holroyd. After founding the non-profit Grade 9 Records in 2008 and growing the label over three successful years, Holroyd decided to expand upon what he had originally established as a means for his students to sell their music and donate the profits to charity, and Revolution Harmony was born. Revolution Harmony acts as a two-way channel, providing an outlet for artists to release their music worldwide and earn money from it, and providing an inlet for the label profits from that music to be redirected to charities that restore harmony between all people, animals and the environment.

The lyrical theme in ‘We Are’ is based on the concept behind Revolution Harmony, which is essentially the belief that musical harmony has the power to inspire a revolution towards societal harmony. The single is dedicated to Nelson Mandela and the memory of Lucky Dube, regarded as South Africa’s Bob Marley, and will be released worldwide on Mandela Day (18 July), with all proceeds donated to Buskaid, a charity that provides free music lessons and instruments to children in the townships of South Africa.

ARMAROTH – From Kranj, Slovenia cometh the Death Metal carnage of ARMAROTH. This is underground Death Metal to savor and enjoy like an ice-cold 6 pack of ale on a hot Summer’s afternoon or a cold day in Winter… take your Metal pick! ARMAROTH plays their Death Metal in the vein of Six Feet Under and Obituary and seemed to have taken their deathly influence quite well from listening to Death and Cannibal Corpse as well.

Putting our Death Metal icons aside, ARMAROTH come across loud and deadly clear that they are original. With impressive melodic guitars and bone tearing riffs featured, the overall depth of sound from this band is one of total F’n destruction upon its surroundings; therefore I cannot pigeonhole ARMAROTH as only a Melodic Death Metal band. In other Metal words, ARMAROTH plays F’n slash-to-the-throat Death Metal. Very bloody nice, indeed.

After the 1:14 seconds of spoken intro, all Death Metal hell breaks loose from ARMAROTH and their debut False Vision EP! False Vision carries through on what I was (hopefully) anticipating: heavy grooves, scathingly heavy drums with pissed-off and death ridden vocals that are all like a death strike, straight from the gates of hell itself! Hail underground Death Metal… and ARMAROTH is another potent reason why! Metal be thy name.
